I think you have The Best videos of PT on you tube. I’ve watched a lot over the years and while there are some great ones I think yours are the best bc of the way you explain what you are talking about. I’ve been to PT a lot and no one ever explains why you need to do certain exercises and what their function is and how it is going to benefit you. I learned a lot from this video. Thank you 🙏🏼 so very much!

This video is a God-send. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the right knee in 2018. Have managed it well with the help of my sports doctors so far. Needless to say, these exercises plus the reminder to maintain the right weight are precious tips indeed to ensure that my knees and the rest of my body continue to be healthy as years pass. I’m 62 now, by the way. A tremendous thanks to you, Will Harlow, for doing this video and for your UA-cam channel! 🙌

I like the simplicity of this routine: it means I'll actually get in the habit of regularly doing the exercises.

Your videos are great Will! Very clear without being verbose. Great demos of the exercises too. I just discovered I have some knee osteoarthritis at 63 and it came as a shock. If I hadn't done the MRIs, I'm not sure I would have found out, as I wasn't experiencing any major pain. But resuming tap dancing triggered some more pain I daresay. Anyway, I've been to the kiné (French abbreviation for PT) and will see a rheumatologist soon. Thanks to your wonderful videos, I'm feeling reassured I can manage my knees better and certainly treat them with more respect!

Thanks Will. I’m very active & at the gym a lot, but have neglected maintaining & building muscle the past few years so I’m working on that. Reading your book, really good stuff, highly recommend! Will be working these simple exercises into my routine. Grateful for your emphasis on people over 50.

Hi, I have this tingling and warm sensation if I sit on a chair at the office, let me elaborate more: from 8 am -to 12 pm no issue, after 12 pm, this warm, tingling sensation starts. It never goes unless I start moving around !!!!
Last year the sensation was different, as per the following: whenever I felt sleepy my knees started tingling and started to send signals to my brain and the adrenalin goes sky rocking, and woke up frightened due to my heart beat acceleration . I visited many doctors at that time and they said, based on your knee assessment everything is ok. some of them said the wear and tear effect may causing this as you have a partial ACL tear and meniscus as well, but not Major. I read a lot of articles about knee problems, none of it described the symptoms I have. I run three times a week 5 kilos for each. I do light leg exercises. I did some physiotherapy but didn’t help much.
    I am a 48 Y/O Male

Thank you Will Harlow for this very informative and helpful video. I have been doing side leg extensions for a while now, but adding the slight backwards motion has really let me feel it in my glutes. My arthritic knees are improving every day. My mantra is "keep moving".

YEARS of cycling left me with an imbalance in glute and VMO strength. PT got me on track with improving glute strength, but still in need of some exercises to strengthen my VMO. Perhaps an upcoming video??? Thank You!

One of your colleagues gave 7 reasons why stronger quad and hamstrings muscles make knee arthritis worse, (El Paso manual physical therapy). On the contrary you advice to train the quad stronger. I am confused.

Since knee arthritis is so common, I hope you will continue to cover it and I will research your past videos. Can you please advise us if using the elliptical machine at the gym is okay to use, or does it put a negative strain on arthritic knees? It's a good calorie burner to lose excess pounds but we don't want to make a bad situation worse. :-)

Can you do the knee range of motion with both legs at the same time? Why or why not?
The straight leg raise with both legs would probably be very hard on the back.

Really helpful thank you. I’ve been told my knees are hurting because my quads are too strong. How can I determine if I need to strengthen them? Also my back is a big issue so the exercise you recommend isn’t great for me. I do the sliding and bending knee exercise every morning as recommended by you and I defo have better mobility in the knee now. I also do the glute exercise every morning in bed but never feel fatigue in the glutes. Would it be better to do it standing?

Once again, spot on. What intrigued me the most was the recommendation to lose weight. If that works, should we not also avoid eg: carrying heavy backpacks (when hiking, travelling or even grocery shopping), weight-lifting and - finally... running? I (66, F) have just been diagnosed with knee arthritis, it does hurt when climbing or descending stairs, but not (yet) when running. As a competitive athlete, weight-lifting and carrying heavy things have been recommended to me, but I would like to be able to run as long as ever possible ... Any advice or return on experience?

Hi! I have osteoarthritis and a meniscus tear on my right knee. I underwent rehab for my condition. My pain management doctor told me to lose weight and not to carry heavy objects. She would give me a little reprimand whenever I went in for consultation lugging around a heavy tote bag or backpack. She advised me to use a smaller bag so I wouldn't be tempted to carry so many things in my bag. Hope this helps.

What if you are bone on bone will this exercise still work or not ??
I do the Straight Line raise daily . I noticed my left leg will raise a little more than my Right Leg ( my right Hip is the issue ) .
*Result on Right Hip* *Severe Osteoarthritic changes of the right hip* and Highly suggestive Synovial Chondromatosis
I have an "Pin" ( I call it a Rod ) in my left leg and 2 screws in my right hip and if I need a surgery on my right hip , I don't know if this surgeon can do another right hip surgery. This is what I am waiting on to see what his answer .
I don't have a Appointment with my Orthopedic until October 2024
