The reality is that these people never really change...
Today the majority of this drug addicts have died of overdoses and those who are still alive and have stopped taking "Ero" continue to drug themselves either with alcohol or with other hard drugs or with Methadone they never stopped even though normally after 3 to 5 years you have to stop too..

100 percent! I've. been clean from opiates since 12/2019. For a decade, my life was a living nightmare, even as a "functional" addict. I did some shady, shameful shite. @@RaylanGivens123 hahaha you're not wrong and yet... well let's put it this way: my dad (a chip carrying AA-man) always used to say something about "living life on life's terms" which to some extent meant accepting that attempting to leave an unjust society by briefly escaping but constantly avoiding all responsibility isn't going to work. At that point you aren't conducting a fruitful (or by some standards genuine) resistance against the de facto system and the norm, you're merely consuming it and destroying yourself. His speech here is supposed to be ironic because in that sense he is "giving up" and rejoining society, i.e. becoming a normie again, but on the other hand what he's giving up is giving up on life. He is, of course, afraid he will become like his parents, who one could also suggest have wasted their lives ("mind-numbing game shows"), that the only way to cope with this fucked up world is to join the cult and let yourself be brainwashed, but the truth is this: the abnormals out there, us creeps and weirdos and poofs and punks and junkies and commies and so on and so forth, those of us who are happy had to do the hard work of carving out our own space, creating our own little communities and cuisines and pubs and gardens and language-exchange cafés and needle exchanges and all that. We have to find each other and work together. I don't think the success rate is all that high for junkies who suppress all that shit and start a family, because when the shit hits the fan, and one day it will, they will stroll back down into that sketchy hood and score. Now Renton, in the books and also the movie they eventually made, he leaves the Kingdom, escapes to Amsterdam where nobody knows him and nobody knows his "so-called mates". About as good as it gets for a fresh start, if one can handle all the extra work of establishing connections, making a few friends, finding a job, staying clean and to some extent learning a new language. But Amsterdam was once about as counterculture as it got, I wouldn't call that normie unless you turned devout religious, and tbh one could argue that true devout Christian or Jewish or even Muslim is actually not normie, just on the other side of the spectrum. A life of discipline, self-denial, and morality? That's not mainstream anymore, not in "the West" anyway...

1:02 onward. The mirror scene. Renton isn't looking at his own reflection here. His eyes are looking directly down the barrel of the camera, so to speak. Right into the lens. He's looking at US, the viewer, as if to say "can you f'king believe I'm about to do this? That WE'RE about to do this!?" It's such an incredible moment. Shortly before steps over Sick Boy, then walks around Spud. Many things about this scene are just beautiful from a cinematic perspective.

Because Renton was nicest to Spud (he trusts him) and because Spud is nonconfrontational. Spud would have joined Renton and agreed if he wasn’t such a pushover. But he sees Renton making a move, and, although too scared of what would happen to him if he gets caught, he also doesn’t want anything bad to happen to Renton…so he kept silent. He also likely believed that Renton would make it up to him, which he did. Notice Spud did not look “surprised” when he found his cut, rather, he looked reassured that he knew Renton had his best interests in mind. So, Spud made the right choice.

If he did otherwise, there would be a fight. Spud is a meek person, he wouldn't want that.

He valued Renton life over the money. Bigsby would have killed him

To my opinion he was to high to realize what's going on. I mean he did know something's happening but he wasn't aware enough to act

@@user-nu8oe5zm1v Are you kidding? The communication between them is non-verbal but very clear.
