In this song, Quadeca died and is watching his mom as a spirit, watching her cope with his death and seeing how she doesn’t light candles anymore for his birthday, tries to tell herself he wasn’t born yesterday and moves on but he knows she’s lying and is still crying/sad inside about his passing/suicide etc in which he regrets on not delaying a specific date (which caused his death) because if he did...he would still be with his loved ones and not in the afterlife alone...also the tapes are connected to the good memories with her and follows him around and finally wraps around him (like how memories stick with you forever in life and death) and now he’s stuck in the afterlife and wants to be with her while a voice in his head is saying “you want her, you need her, she no longer needs you” which causes him to panic and start slamming on the doors or walls trying to get out of the afterlife and have someone hear him but they can’t...he’s forever dead... In the “living realm” his family is probably getting a cold feeling that someone’s (Quad) watching them and is getting scared/haunted but in reality...it’s Quadeca who’s scared of being stuck in the afterlife with nobody being able to hear him knocking for help...hence the title of the album... “I didn’t mean to haunt you”......
i think this song is from the perspective of a dead person that is in denial about his death. he’s a ghost, but doesn’t understand it all, and is struggling to accept it. the things that he says he regrets are things that he wishes he would’ve done/said before he himself died, not someone else. this also explains the “i have a new birthday to celebrate” line, as the “new birthday” would be the day that he died, or was “born” into some sort of afterlife, hence the title born yesterday. those are my thoughts, if anyone cares. if you read all of this, you’re pretty cool lol. best quadeca song ever made imo :)

Something I truly do admire about Quadeca, and this is repeated quite a bit due to the irony of him doing the styles of rap and imitating other artists in videos, but he truly does seem to be working on building something that is his without necessarily trying to completely stand out and be completely anti pop. His new music seems very distinct which I'm sure he would be proud to hear. The meaning I personally get from this song is this: His mother used to (verbally) abuse him and in the beginning he laughed it off and was happy she was gone. Then it seems to be she might’ve passed that’s why the Beatles sample says “you want her you need her” kind of like a devil/angel on his shoulders. And then he says he was “circling dates” meaning he was was looking to kill himself and he’d be with his mother again. But idk just what I picked up
I agree, on first listen it may come across as a melodramatic breakup song but on further listens I interpret this about him losing his mother and regretting not spending more time with her
@@RedditStorieswithGalxc i agree i think this track is about his mother. there must have been some sort of destroyed relationship between them, yet ben longs to have her back in his life. he doesn't want to take his mother for granted, but he must have always wished that his mother would love him and support him. i think the new birthday line has to do with when (if his mother died) his mother died, a new perspective was born within him that he never saw before. this song sounds like a very vulnerable, deeply emotional piece of work that builds and builds, but then at the end, there is a sense of letting go and moving on. idk maybe im nuts.
Could some of his older tra ks from FMTY point in this sort of direction. Maybe the entire time we perceived his tracks as love songs to a significant other, but maybe they had hidden meanings behind them. Now obviously not all of them refer to his mom in particular, but maybe somethings was happening? I dont know, this theory sounds pretty right about this song though.
Quadeca's song clearly explores his death and its impact on those around him, as well as his own experience as a ghost. He reflects on both his life and what comes after through the lyrics and instrumentals. In the opening lines, phrases like “you said I’m in a better place,” “I’ve got a new birthday to celebrate,” and “I blew them out for me, until I forgot how to breathe” convey his perspective on death. The second verse shifts to the viewpoint of his loved ones, expressing sorrow with lines like “I’ve been in so many tears,” “I’ve been in so many hearts,” and “I’ve been in so many prayers.” It also hints at Quadeca's struggle with their moving on, as he reflects, “I’ve been tryna unsee how you’ve moved on from me,” showcasing his inability to let go of the regret he feels. This theme of regret is further emphasized in the bridge, where he laments “all those little things I should’ve said out loud,” suggesting a deep yearning for the chance to communicate more with those he cares about before his passing.

i think the song is a flip from a common theme in hip hop of making songs about your own death from the perspective of another, but he flips this to tell the story of him dying and observing from an afterlife, or near death state. This song is specifically talking about his mom who pretends shes okay when shes not when his first birthday dead passes. I never heard of the young man. The first I've seen heard listened... He's expressing his troubled mind like all inspirational artists do. From my ( and your) observation there's definitely talent there. The video was mesmerizing 😎. Seems there was a nod to particular culture that wear the white cloths around their face and necks. IDK 🤷 fascinating nevertheless.
Why don't you react to Yebba's live versions of Paranoia Purple and Louie Bag or One more Smile? She is so underrated it hurts. Her experimental and jazzy, psychedelic approach is magical!!
Everybody getting these theories backwards. In this song it isn't about Quad missing his dead mother. It's about DEAD Quad missing his ALIVE mother. The album is titled "I didn't mean to haunt you" and homie is legit dressed like a damn ghost. WAKE UP PEOPLE. It's a unique take on a song about losing a family member from a reversed perspective. The lines "'ve been in so many tears... I've been in so many prayers... etc." It's literally about him having to witness people mourn his death while he's a ghost. And if that wasn't enough for you, he also says, "I got new birthday to celebrate" This is his birth into the afterlife, also referred to as rebirth by many. Still not enough for you? He deadass says, "I've been trying unsee how you moved on from me." He's watching his mother move on from mourning his death. The main chorus of "I wasn't born yesterday, I think you're goddamn lying" is about him watching his mother cope with his death and pretend she is okay. But Quadeca isn't stupid, he knows h mother is hurting and he knows that she is lying to herself and everyone else. This isn't me grasping at straws either he legit says, "You said it happened for a reason, I swear to God, I think you're goddamn lying". He knows that his mother isn't okay. But he still has to watch her mourn his death from the great beyond.
People will mark him for trying to be "edgy" or a fake lil peep, but out of all these artists, I feel Quad actually passionately believes his music. It doesn't feel like a show. I think he feels the music, creates the music, then embodies the music with the video production. It is niche music, but to say it isn't unique or beautiful art is disjustice to art imo.
Anyone saying that is horrendously stupid, this all comes off a lot more indie arthouse than it does emo. Very different from emo rap in both themes, aesthetic and sound.
still trying to figure out exactly what this song specifically is about but since he has said before that this album is going to be related to death and themes of that nature the strongest conclusion i have come to is that this song is about the passing of someones parents due to the references to birth, his mother being slowly phased out of the birthday footage, and the constant repetition of and themes of "needing you" and no longer being needed by them. then again it could just be about a breakup or death in general, but lines like "the umbilical cord is still wrapped around me" point in a different direction (to me at least.) Either way, great song, great progression from his last work, and I'm excited to see whats to come.
@@mrcutit could be something more similar to that as well, mostly what I picked up was that it was the death of a family member and had a strong connection to the process of birth as a whole. mother, sibling, something else, i think its too early to tell.

It’s an awful song. It was intentionally stretched out over 6 minutes and made as experimental as possible, but more experimental doesn’t= better. The music video was very good, fantastically shot, but the song? Some decent lyrics, but some very poor ones. Interesting themes throughout as well, but there is just no cohesive elements to the track which lets it all down. It’s extremely messy and not in a way which improves the song. Take Kanye- Runaway for example, that’s a 9 minute track that uses up every second of its runtime. It’s different and unique but everything feels like one and it all needs to be there, this track doesn’t provide that same concept.
i think the song is a flip from a common theme in hip hop of making songs about your own death from the perspective of another, but he flips this to tell the story of him dying and observing from an afterlife, or near death state. This song is specifically talking about his mom who pretends shes okay when shes not when his first birthday dead passes. I think this new album is going to be the storytelling that he always had a lacking presence in his music
Editor used the wrong art work for the previous project LOL. thats voice memos, not FMTY
This might be a top 10 song this year. Quadeca isn’t just a UA-cam rapper anymore. He’s a true artist in every sense

FANTANO GAVE IT TOP 10 OMG
This is definitely partially shot in Iceland
This song and the video both reminded me a ton of an artist I absolutely love called EDEN. If you enjoyed this you should check that artist out.

Quad has a bright bright future ahead of him. His understanding of production as well as the complexity behind the meaning of the song is incredible. The way everything comes together is amazing.
this is song of the year so far for me, FMTY was my fav album last year and I really hope I didn’t mean to haunt you Hits me just as close
So impressed by this track
pretty sure this is about a dead person missing his mother, it ties into the forthcoming album’s title I Didn’t Want To Haunt You
The editing is so good!
Was filmed in iceland
LETS GOOOOO, JON STRAIGHT ON IT
Basically this song is about Quadeca being a ghost and watching his mom mourn over his death, and he wants to go see her but he can't
Meanwhile his family is getting a cold feeling like they're being haunted (Basically by Quad trying to escape the afterlife)
insane
He’s just getting better and better

no
UA-cam artist*** definitely a LOT of potential though.
@@justsomejusstsome8994 Nope just artist, he self-produced this entirely, self-directed and edited the video and he's *21*, can you name me 1 other artist doing this that young?
@@osagiestuart8552 baby keem has produced, written, and performed songs while also having the added benefit of having Kendrick Lamar on his side and he’s also 21. Very excited for both of their progression over the next decade
@@HooperHype eh i don't think Baby Keem is really that special he really just sticks to very conventional sounds
One fact that i think about when listening to the song is about the death of sad frosty that happened during the making of this album
Strong Yung Lean Vibes with this one !
Love you’re reactions Jon
Sounds like early Madchester stuff like Stone Roses or Happy Mondays merged with Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit.
If Phoebe Bridgers was a rapper, she would have made this
Quadecas not really a rapper anymore
Nice copied comment
That's so amazing
This theory is right because it is copied and pasted from the original video and Quadeca liked the original comment
wow thanks for being on top of this jon!! i thought this track was great :) excited to see this in my feed dude
such a bueatiful song
all of it is shot in Iceland I think, people found the glass cabin he used after only the snippet 🤣
This song is crazy
i love the quadeca videos dude
Rina Sawayama's new album 'Hold The Girl' dropped last week and based off your reaction to the last record i think you'll really love it
this is really good
We need the Rina Sawayama reaction Jon! She just dropped her new album and it’s really good!
Apparently he’s dead in this song and throughout the album. So it’s not about a breakup it’s actually about his mother.
yassss
This is the reaction I was waiting for
HES THE GOAT!
quadecki
People will mark him for trying to be "edgy" or a fake lil peep, but out of all these artists, I feel Quad actually passionately believes his music. It doesn't feel like a show. I think he feels the music, creates the music, then embodies the music with the video production. It is niche music, but to say it isn't unique or beautiful art is disjustice to art imo.
Anyone saying that is horrendously stupid, this all comes off a lot more indie arthouse than it does emo. Very different from emo rap in both themes, aesthetic and sound.
He just looks like Lil Peep in the footage the music is as far from lil peep as possible
The concept of the album and song is that quadeca is dead. This song is him watching his mother mourn over him and knowing shes not truly ok
This track is Sisyphus level to me
It's so god damn amazing. Quad is on another level lately
Think this is dead Quad speaking to his mother
man really died and decided to make a song about it
still trying to figure out exactly what this song specifically is about but since he has said before that this album is going to be related to death and themes of that nature the strongest conclusion i have come to is that this song is about the passing of someones parents due to the references to birth, his mother being slowly phased out of the birthday footage, and the constant repetition of and themes of "needing you" and no longer being needed by them. then again it could just be about a breakup or death in general, but lines like "the umbilical cord is still wrapped around me" point in a different direction (to me at least.) Either way, great song, great progression from his last work, and I'm excited to see whats to come.
what do you think about the narrator being the ghost of his sibling that didnt survive birth?
@@mrcutit I’ve never thought about that I could definitely see it at first I thought maybe his mom but that also makes sense
@@mrcutit could be something more similar to that as well, mostly what I picked up was that it was the death of a family member and had a strong connection to the process of birth as a whole. mother, sibling, something else, i think its too early to tell.
Quad is the one who's dead
This song is abt him seeing his mother deal with his death as a ghost
@@qkwekdhxnbdbd5252 do you know that as a fact or is that just what you picked up on from the video. not doubting you just interested in why you believe that.
Feel like I heard some European invasion influence on the vocals and melody
Let’s goo noti gang
My own headcannon for this song is that hes some sort of ghost. He mentions being in multiple couches so maybe he is haunting a past love that moved on.
Basically quadeca made a sadboys/ draingang song
Jon please please please dive into Jean Dawson
whos cutting onions rn
To me it sounds like the song is about his mother and not making the time to visit her so they are drifting apart just from the throwing candles away ect but I could be wrong
I get alot of Enter Shikari vibes
I remember when he used to do FIFA videos lmao. Good on him tho
react to Burna Boy’s new album called Love Damini

A lot of porter robinson influence in this one I think could be super wrong
New Ugly Mane vibes
In the song quadeca is dead and his mother is alive. He is watching her trying to cope with the loss of his life.

I’m not entirely sure but I think it’s either about not having a good relationship with his mom or maybe she’s passed
I think it's a continuation to his other album about depression anxiety and a failed long term relationship but we need the whole album
This video does a great job explaining the album trilogy that quadeca has built.
