to add to that, that entire verse is alluding to the mourning of his death, which is why he mentions the act of celebrating it. we're known for making shrines or altars to mourn the dead, and lighting candles in memory. quadeca is presumably seeing this, and "celebrating" along with them. but it gets interesting. "those candles that you couldn't light. you threw them out and wondered why." this is a picture quadeca is trying to paint. during the ceremonies/mournings, he is there blowing the candles as they're being lit, which is why they never seem to catch spark. in the physical world, it just seems like these candles don't light properly. "you threw them out and wondered why". they're wondering why every single candle seems to be faulty, throwing them away in the end. was he mad at the fact that he was being mourned? was he simply happy to see candles and people remembering him? or was he trying to interfere with the physical world, in hopes it would change something (hinted in later lines)? these are questions we don't fully know or can be explained, except you realize in the next line, neither can quadeca. "don't know why i blew them out for me. until i forgot how to breathe" this line insinuates quadeca had no reasoning for blowing out his candles, but in the final lines of the verse, surprisingly he gives us one, contradicting this very statement. there's multiple ways to look at that, but i think the one that makes the most sense is that quadeca has relfected over some time, realized the lack of power he has after death, and concludes that blowing out those candles was and always will be meaningless. this would also explain why he says, "until i forgot how to breathe", something seen as impossible for a ghost. and yet earlier, we established that he did, leaving you wondering how? i think the fact quad says FORGOT to breathe, and not that he COULDN'T is important. because breathing is such a natural thing to us, we can't fathom ever FORGETTING how to do it. we don't need to think to breathe, our brain does it for us. willpower alone keeps us subconsciously breathing, and perhaps for quadeca, his will to want to live again allowed him to breathe subconsciously, temporarily allowing him to blow out a candle. until, the muscle memory that acts as the foundation for our subconscious breathing, vanishes and quadeca forgets altogether. that line is a representation of being powerless/transforming into nothing after death, at least when it comes to the physical nature. and let me tell you quadeca, is NOT having it. "i popped a vein and i made a wish. i made a wish that'll never be" he's FURIOUS, ANGRY, and UPSET at the fact that he's no longer able to experience life. reality in this moment, is telling quadeca you can't breathe, you can't speak, you can't change anything, you're fading away. it's at this point, after blowing out the candles from before, that quadeca makes a birthday wish, one that'll never ever come to fruition. a wish to live once more. this scene alone is so beautifully and meticulously thought out. it's a represntation of human nature . how would we react, feel, and what would we do if we were a spirit/ghost and saw our families, friends, and communities mourning us. we're already known to die with regrets. what if i did this in my life, where would i be if i stuck to this path, what would've changed if i, etc.. it's just like that, except you're not coming to peace knowing it's over and you'll die soon, no you're a ghost and very much able to think/feel, placing you in an extreme state of coping. i'd probably visit familiar locations too. i'd probably try to reach the physical realm and find a way to impose myself, candles or not. i'd inevitable fade away/forget through time, and that would infuriate me as well. in the end, we'd reach a climax, consisting of weeping and breaking down. "all those little things, i should've said out loud" is that climax. musically and narrative-wise. but then again, this is merely my perspective.
@@mo_riz "popped a vein" pretty sure he's also just referencing his suicide, and his previous notion/image of being dead: his hopeful fantasyworld. he wished that he would find peace, but ironically he's watching the mortal world moving on without him and it's haunting him. there currently wasn't any peace for him at this moment. i really do love this theme or aspect of the album - his whole death being sort of a "posthumous glitch" as he calls it. it's a big part of the premise of this album. e.g. with the line on tell me a joke "the door must've broke. how could it be? it's a set-up, the punchline is me". if we take this line literally though, it could be confusing, since it's implied that he took his life via. hanging himself, I guess. your interpretation makes sense too tho. I'm mostly looking forward to bob's additional thoughts if he has some. that's why i, trying to comment more details and some food for thought if you know what i mean.
Can we just take time to appreciate Bob’s ability to find a meaning in every line. He breaks the album down, and drops knowledge and advice for everyone to take in. I genuinely feel more knowledgable after watching his breakdowns
ikrrr i still remember watching his reaction to jpegmafia's veteran and i always couldn't make sense of what peggy was talking about and put two and two together that the chaotic glitchy ever changing beats do play into that anxious never being really comfortable and essentially the theme of him being bold and confronting while still having these anxiety that he tries to run from i always appreciate bob being able to make me see that album in a new light, went from being 'wtf is this shit'/indifferent to it and now one of favourite album by peggy other than obviously LP offline version, Scaring the hoes, Cornballs, and I lay down.
Hi bob!! a few things from ur discords resident extremely dedicated quadeca fan! (technically no spoilers, because absolutely nothing has been confirmed explicitly by quad) 1. Quadeca has been very quiet about actually explaining any of the concept of this album. He's said that he will probably never reveal what his intended story was, instead leaving much of it up to interpretation. However, in that same post he mentioned one thing that completely changed how at least I thought about the concept: he said to pay attention to the fact that the vocals on Fantasyworld are dry, meaning without virtually any vocal effects, while on every single other track they're drowned in effects. Quad said that this song is supposed to be a flashback to before the rest of the album, and the clear vocals indicate that he isnt dead yet. 1.5. side note on the effects in fantasyworld -- also notice how after the huge drop, both his vocals and the piano return, but distorted and scratchy. This drop is a huge turning point for the narrative, especially given the timeline Quad gave us for when this song takes place. 2. Danny's verse on House Settling is generally understood to be from the POV of Carbon Monoxide (aka CO), which is invisible and almost undetectable to humans, but incredibly deadly if you breathe too much of it in. The common fan theory (and the one that makes the most sense to me) is that the ghost, out of anger, loneliness, or something else, tries to kill his family that he left behind with Carbon Monoxide. So yeah, you hit the nail on the head with your guess that the album would take a dark turn towards him truly haunting! I cheered when you said that, I'm not sure I've seen anyone else guess that twist before it happened. 3. The filming locations were largely Iceland and Norway, but the shot you loved so much of the house in the middle of the lake was filmed in Alaska, and the Fractions of Infinity video was filmed in Turkey. That being said I appreciate the Washington shoutout! 4. That "you love her, you need her" vocal in Born Yesterday is actually a sample from For No One by the Beatles! I could be wrong, but I believe at some point Quadeca said this was his favorite song on the album, if not his favorite that he's ever made. 5. Not sure if you noticed, but the final song features Thor Harris on percussion. Thor is the former (?) percussionist for the drone / post rock group SWANS, known for their crushingly heavy sound and dark tone. Also, this collaboration is like Endgame for Fantano fans. Thats all!! I'm so glad you're finally doing this :) -Callie
oh and my personal theory for the END of the album is him accepting his own death and moving on from being a ghost. the slow fade to static is the light at the end of the tunnel. this could also be a reversal of the line in Knots "I don't fade to black I cut to static," -- in fact, he does neither, but both.
Great comment!! Bob did get a lot of the story and concept, but I do think understanding these few things that he missed better really does lead to appreciating the album more, so it's cool to see other people who know this much about the album share their knowledge! That said, i'm about to do the exact same thing and share a bit of mine, so here are a few other things I'd like to also say :) 1. Quadeca HAS been quite quiet about the meaning of everything on the album, only mentioning small things like even later CONFIRMING that fantasyworld was indeed the first track chronologically on the album, and also that the poem at the end of knots is there to hint towards it! 1.5. When Born Yesterday was released as the first single for the album, fans' initial theory was that it was about his mom's passing. However, a few hours/days later (can't remember exactly), someone left a comment on the music video with their own theory, saying that they thought it was Quadeca that died, not his mom. Even though Quadeca didn't say anything explicitly about the track, that was the only comment which he hearted on the video, and fans immediately noticed and started theorising around the rest based on that piece of information. 2. From very early on in the album, Quadeca speaks about his death and its aftermath, and even though he heavily hints towards it several times until Knots, this is the first time in the album where it's made extremely clear that he didn't just accidentally die (some earlier examples include, i.e., in Born Yesterday, with lines such as "I keep circlin' dates, I keep thinking about it" (him planning it out), "I had just a hint of doubt / I wish I let that hint become me / Just a little doubt, uh / Couldn't figure out how to outrun me" (talking about having rethought his decision, but eventually having gone through with it), and "And I'd be free if I just saved the date / I'd be there with you right now / And that day plan should've stayed delayed" (regretting having done it). With Knots though, through many analogies, it's made painfully and very visually explicitly clear, once you understand the context, the way in which he took his own life. Highly suggest reading through all the lyrics on that one with this in mind. 3. Also some shots like the empty field one where he's unravelling the cassette tape were filmed in Kazakhstan! (as can be seen here indyguide.com/tours/semipalatinsk-nuclear-test-site) 4. Yep, Thor Harris was a member of Swans from 2010 to 2016, contributing to a few of the band's (extremely) highly regarded classics, such as "The Seer", "To Be Kind" and "The Glowing Man". And of course music nerds, casual enjoyers, and critics alike are gonna go absolutely ape shit when you mix that with inclusions from Danny Brown, one of experimental hip-hop's most forward thinking and genre defining artists, as well as the Sunday Service Choir, which is "lead" by Kanye West (note that the album was released shortly after all the controversies started happening, meaning this collaboration happened way before that (also, there's a video on @quadecaexclusives1272 where he shows a studio session with the choir itself!)) 5. A quick not-so-fun fact: during the album's creation, Quadeca tweeted something along the lines of "I'm currently sitting on the greatest posthumous album ever", leaving some fans wondering what this meant about the album itself, while others were quite concerned about him, even if there wasn't much they could do. (another theory about it was that he was in possession of an album by his (at the time) recently lost friend, as well as artist, Sad Frosty). After the album's released, he mentioned that not only was he doing mentally and physically horrible during the time in which he was making idmthy, but also that he was still planning to take his own life, and he thought the album would be released after his death, shining a whole different light on that tweet. So it isn't hard to understand that this album's concept comes from more than just a made up story, but also his feelings, and being a way for him to deal with and process them. and also i might be mistaken but i think either parts of or the entirety of fantasyworld were written as part of his suicide note (or a planned out one), a poem that he chose to sing out as a part of the album, integrating it in the story, showing that the album's character's desires to die were not only his, but also Quadeca's. I think that's it, might've forgotten a few things but the previous comment already covered pretty much everything pretty well :) Hope this helps you, Bob, or whoever's reading this to understand this amazing album just a little bit better, even if there's always more stuff to uncover and find out about the album/its concept on every listen. Can you tell I love this album? Anyways, I hope whoever's reading this has an amazing day!! o7
How I interpret the album: The character of the album is a version of Quadeca who follows through on taking his own life. He was stuck in a life he felt was not worth living and he became fascinated by the idea of not existing so he took his own life. To his surprise he ascends into a ghostly form of himself and quickly begins to regret his decision. He watches over his family as they move on from his death and he becomes desperate to communicate with them as he feels like he is being forgotten. In a moment of weakness and selfishness, he sets off a carbon monoxide leak with the hopes of his mother being able to see him in the hallucinations. This attempt to communicate failed and he almost ended up killing his mother. He is overwhelmed with guilt, loneliness, and the idea of being forgotten causing him to have a panic attack. After calming down, he reflects on the moments leading up to his suicide with a newfound perspective gaining some amount of closure. “let me go but don’t let go of me”. He is then able to enter the void and become consumed by static as he achieves his original goal of not existing. Only this time he wishes for the opposite.
oh no fuckin way. no way you're doing this album bob. thank you. legendary piece of art this album is, and it's now accompanied by a legendary open-minded bald headed god to react to it. album's real special 2 me. ill never forget when i heard/ saw memories lost in translation, when i finally understood it and almost lived what he (as the ghost) was going through, heavy shit. EXTREMELY heavy. emotions just came out on that track, i don't think i ever had that type of reaction before to a song. something about those flashbacks, and "he's getting away from me", thinking about that song mixed with the visuals just makes you feel like and know: this is what it's like to leave life, right now, all your memories playing before you "go", leaving you're loved ones, that disconnect is hard to watch, ESPECIALLY knowing that he committed suicide to get himself there, and there's no going back, to anything, its just barren, but this piece of memory and what knowing what life was, your own mother raising you as a little baby, your highs, your lows, seeing it ALL like this for one last time as it's getting away... forever... whew. what an extraordinary and haunting (lol) project that just takes you to another realm man. unreal, terrifying when you go thru the album and put yourself in his shoes.
Even now two years since it's release, I'm still in awe of how he produced this album himself and how incredibly detailed it is. I literally cannot wait for his upcoming album
Dude I’ve been following Quadeca since 2016, when he used to do soccer songs and fifa videos It’s been an amazing journey to watch him grow and develop his talent and vision, I’m glad you gave him a shot
Omg I just randomly checked if someone dropped a quadeca reaction and I found this. I love your channel I've seen tons of your other reactions and your ensight is always amazing
Hi! I’m really glad you covered this album, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed your take, especially since it’s my favorite album and you're one of my favorite voices in music commentary. Watching the album movie really highlighted its artistic depth in ways I hadn’t fully appreciated before. Focusing on the visuals and symbology added a lot of meaning. I’ll share a bit of context and food for thought instead of just stating my opinion (though I may sprinkle some in!). *1.* _Recording stuff details or something_ You did a great job covering most of the themes, especially nostalgia. It runs through the whole project-like the recurring cassette imagery, which shows up in “Born Yesterday” and elsewhere. One song that stands out is Fantasyworld. It happens before Ben takes his life, which is reflected in the clarity of his voice. On the previous track Knots, Quadeca says this in the outro, which does go hand in hand with the next song, a lot! So just wanted to remind you in case you forgot: "You took out that film too soon. There was light bleeding in the red room. I'll do anything but stand in front of the projector. I'd watch it all again". And then the sound of a projector plays. And then it's flashback time. I'm sure that the song Fantasyworld has been explained a little bit more. Then at the end of Fantasyworld (in the movie), Ben is standing in front of the projector without a ghost mask on (also in contrast to Ben just before in the ending of Knots in the movie, wearing a ghost mask). Make what you will with that, just some food for thought. I really want to hear your interpretation! *2.* _Cassini’s Division_ Cassini's Division refers to the gap between Saturn’s rings. Uhhh. Just wanted to point that out. That also means something! Just wanted to point out that it isn't a random thing that Quadeca made up if you didn't know. And it has meaning. But (reminder that it's totally fine to interpret your way!) what Quadeca is talking about with the "3:41, you came out of the room and you we're crying in a way no one could hear" stuff in my opinion, is a person discovering his hanging corpse following his suicide. But it could be a double meaning, that is trying to say something else. Food for thought, I guess. This outro can actually be interpreted in so many ways, and can twist so many themes in different ways in that way, which is one of the reasons why I personally love this album. *3.* _Carbon Monoxide in House Settling_ House Settling keeps getting deeper the more I listen thematically, contextually and in so many ways. And I'm sure that people have been explaining that Danny Brown is rapping from the perspective of carbon monoxide. To explain some of the thought process behind what the hell Ben was thinking (he was obviously desperate in his defense) -- there’s a myth that CO poisoning makes you see ghosts, which explains the line, “Would you see through CO? Breaks my heart, but I'll give it a try” Ben then turned on the oven to make it happen. There are hints that he unintentionally harmed others, and some details point to it not being the case. It's conflicting, and that's definitely on purpose. Plently of possible meaning there. There’s room for interpretation. *4.* _Icelandic Dog in Picking Up Hands_ I could touch on my interpretation of the lyrics in Picking Up Hands, like the themes of rebirth, estrangement with himself and the world/nostalgia: "and I saw my mothers eyes, the second time". But something interesting was Quadeca's story on how the dog in the music video appeared. It was out of the blue! They were recording in Iceland, and a stray dog just ran towards them with a stick, and for some odd reason -- it was pretty poetic -- the dog just gravitated towards Quadeca: the ghost. This dog was absolutely addicted to playing catch, and at some point the dog would slightly bleed in his mouth from playing that much, which did raise concern from Quadeca and his friend (forgot his name, my bad). At least that's how I think the story went, there's a full short video where he explains it! Just a fun fact. Also, Ben is speaking to his mother at this point. This is slightly indicated really early in this album, but it's not flat out implied, until Picking Up Hands. Lines that slightly imply his mother figure (this makes more sense with hindsight) e.g. include: "And now it's hard to think, I've been runnin' in and out of dreams, Repeatin' everything you ever said you see in me", and then with hindsight it also becomes clear that he's talking to his mother in Don't Mind Me. Then in Picking Up Hands, he mentions the person he used to talk to carrying him in a basket, and just a lot of stuff he would do with his mother in her household: 1. "Same carpet I crawled in, same bucket I was washed in", 2. "Tall marks on the wall charts, it's the wrong parts gettin' longer", 3. "Made a mark through the dust on the floor, And I saw my mother's eyes for the second time". And then In the track Born Yesterday it's completely fleshed out. That's all I want to say before you make an additional thoughts video if you make one. Just want to give you some more ideas! That's about it for what I want to point out. This is easily my favorite album ever -- maybe SCRAPYARD (or the next album) will dethrone it one day -- but as it stands, this is my favorite album, and one of my favorite stories as of now. Really loved this video even more than I expected.
ALSO Quadeca released an exclusive music video on his Quadeca Exclusives channel for sorry4dying. he says that it's a cartoon (I forgot where it's from), that he saw as super fitting with the song thematically, lyrically, contextually and so on. or he didn't say exactly that, but you know what I mean. that's probably what he meant. since you were interested in the visual "symbology" in this movie, maybe you could be interested in that. just a sidenote.
Bob… I NEED you to react to clippings ‘Visions of Bodies Being Burned’ especially since it’s October. Literally the PERFECT time to listen to that album. It’s fucking amazing. I love your TEAATB reaction and have wanted you to hear Visions for two years now😭😭 I’m a fiend bro.
bob... i mean this when i say i was sat here alone in my room doing literally nothing, like not an exaggeration, i felt like the walls were closing in on me and the silence was horrible, but i didnt want to put any music on because although the silence was so loud any other type of sound just felt irritating... ive never really felt that way before and i was sat there like that for probably over an hour before i saw this video... thank you for somehow telepathically knowing i was going through some strange anxiety driven self silence by dropping a reaction to one of my favourite albums of all time
such a great reaction/analysis, I'm glad there were no cuts because it felt like I was sitting with a cool dad who loves listening to music and was dissecting the music i like.
When you were talking at the end about something like a bat going through the light i was actually shocked because for a first time listen you picked up on so many things and themes of this album. A fun fact about the final track (which you can watch quadeca himself speak about) is that because his camera was corrupting whilst filming that final shot of him on the rocks, he has to record the camera footage from a camcorder. whilst he did this, bugs were attracted to the light and therefore got captured on the camera (almost like a second layer) and the best thing about all of this is that the theme of this track is him dying and going to the light. so these insects going to the light symbolises not only quadecas dead but everyones and every creatures.
i listened to this album around a year ago and didnt think much of it but you made me reexperiance it and it now became one of my favorite album experiences of all time
one of my top 5 albums of all time the more you re listen to the whole thing the more you enjoy it and it gets more beautiful, haunting and the ideas make so much sense. great album, glad you enjoyed it.
BOB you NEED to listen to the new Geordie Greep album, it’s crazy and I think you would find it super interesting. Either that or the album Hellfire from Black Midi (the band he was apart of) which came out a few years back and it is just as good. The sounds and lyrics are all absurd and it goes super hard. Just a recommendation 👍👍
The album movie idea from Quadeca is amazing. I’m sure plenty of people have done it before him but it’s not a hugely popular idea, and he executes it to perfection, it makes the music even better.
idk if anyone else feels this the whole aesthetic of the movie and even certain shots - specfically the piano shot at night in the tell me a joke portion - strongly reminds me of the film a ghost story. i love both so so so much
Hey Bob! Loved the reaction, this is one of my favorite albums of all time so I'm glad you checked it out. I do want to specify a couple things relating to the story of this album: 1. The premise of the story is that we're hearing Quadeca as a fictional ghost. He never says it explicitly, but throughout the lyrics we eventually discover that this character intentionally committed suicide through carbon monoxide poisoning in a far away cabin. He then became the ghost in the story as a result of his death, which makes him reflect on his decision and he starts to heavily regret it. 2. Whenever he references a person other than himself, its 99% about his mom. Since he sees his mother's grieving process, with checking the boxes of her son's kid toys and trinkets, old photos and videos that we see through Quadeca's memories flashing before his eyes as he passes away, etc. The ghost also tries to poison his mom with carbon monoxide in "house settling", with the goal of her mom joining him in his desolate isolation and a desperate need to never be forgetting. In the next song "knots", he says "had to turn the oven off", showing that he soon regretted this decision and stopped it before it killed his mother. 3. There are frequent references to suicide as well as suicidal ideation throughout the tracklist. In "fantasyworld", we jump back to Quadeca's last moments as a human being, driving to a cabin alone, far away, going through his last thoughts before committing to his deadly plan of suicide. The first line of the song being "Cry to sleep, wait a week again" references the inability to follow through with your planned death. "That's a fantasy world/That's the one that I've chosen" alludes to accepting death as your only future and fantasizing about how much better it could be than living. On the track "fractions of infinity", Quadeca says "I wouldn't say I was surprised/On the eighty-second time" which most likely means that he tried to commit suicide ~81 times before his "successful" attempt. In this track, he also uses film terminology to describe how his life was a movie and that he gave it a premature ending. We can see this with lyrics like "Rippin' up projector screens/The director screamin' 'Cut' " that describes the rupture he caused in his life story with his death and "Take twenty-three, let's get this scene and then it'll be enough, right?", where he compares the years of his life with different takes on a scene, which not only shows that his life is so repetitive that he feels like every year is a repetition of the last one, but also shows that he's had enough and that he's ending his life when he is 23 (as in 23 takes = 23 years). There's also the poem at the end of "knots" where someone compares the end of Quadeca's life as "taking out the film too soon", once again referring to film terminology to represent his life. There's much more to be uncovered under the surface of this album, and I know this looks like a lot but trust me, it's just the tip of the iceberg (I've done way too much research 😂). I do recommend you look through the lyrics with this new context, as a lot of the story starts making a lot more sense when you take the suicidal aspect of the story into account. As always, love the reactions and I can't wait for you to react to Scrapyard as well as Quadeca's upcoming album Vanisher. Hope this helped you understand the story a bit better! :D
he defintely hung himself. He talks about floating away in fantasyworld, and knots references a business man "tying his tie too tight." Or at the beginning of cassinis division, hes describing his mom coming in on his hanging body that stopped "kicking and screaming" because he died. He then felt exposed watching his mom cry and sob to his death because he isnt supposed to watch it.
@@dylancovella1447 and there's also a pretty dark humor joke/double or maybe even triple entendre on fractions on infinity that heavily implies him hanging himself. "I think I hit my target weight, got exorcised while I stood in place" hitting his target weight = his spirit left his body from killing himself, rendering his spirit weightless: what he wanted. he basically got exorcised. but it's also a WEIGHT LOSS. an exercise, which is funny cause he stood in place - without even having to move much like you do for an exercise. and basically, what he means by stood in place, is him dropping of the chair, and hanging himself. hope I didn't do a poor job of explaining that bar. there might also be an additional meaning, don't remember. there's also him - like, the *actual* real life quadeca losing a lot of weight for this album.
One of the most interesting albums I’ve ever heard. The more you listen to it, the better it gets. Absolutely love tell me a joke and fractions of infinity
I’m going to try to keep this relatively short since you have a herd of folks throwing lore at you, but here’s the rough story of the album. Quadeca (or the character, rather) is stuck in purgatory across this entire album. We open with our character essentially crossing to his ghostly form after taking his own life. Throughout the album, we see the character’s process of grief. Typically we see grief for the deceased, but this is grief of the living from the perspective of the deceased. Our character believes his life is a joke, he sees family and friends moving on and packing up his things, cancelling subscriptions, etc. Our character’s focal point is his childhood home (i.e picking up hands, house settling). Our character now, out of a dangerous mixture of grief, sadness, rage, longing; attempts to fill the home with carbon monoxide to be with those he loves again. Quadeca has stated in the past that whether the character is successful in this endeavor is up for interpretation from the listener. The character is then filled immensely with regret on Knots. We then get a peer into our character’s mindset prior to the act of taking their own life on Fantasyworld (this track is a precursor to everything we hear on the album). All these feelings and regretful actions culminate into acceptance on the tracks Fractions of Infinity and Cassini’s Division, where the character is finally able to come to grips with their own actions and finally ascend beyond purgatory. Whether the character goes to heaven, is scattered throughout the cosmos, or just fades to black, is up to the listener. Regardless, our character is now consumed by the static. Which also! The static throughout the entire album is a representation of the “other side” trying to claim our character’s soul. That is why we have minutes of static at the end of the album, to represent the character being consumed and transposed to the other side. Sorry for my yapathon! I’ve been waiting a year or so to see your reaction to this Bob. Thank you for taking the time and for watching the movie specifically. This album holds a dearly special place in my heart and I am overjoyed that you enjoyed this experience. Much love Bob!
This genuinely is one of my favorite albums of all time it’s so special to me. Another album that is an all timer for me which you need to listen to imaginal disk. I’m sure there’s been plenty of requests for it and if not I’m disappointed in the viewers because no reaction I’ve watched had disliked the album even slightly everyone is loving it!
This was such a good reaction! Seeing your enthusiasm for the music you were hearing and listening to your interpretations of the songs was so cool! :)
Fun fact the dog in the picking up hands virualizer was just a random dog that came into the shot, its mouth was bleeding, the more he played fetch the worse it was getting, but the dog didnt want to stop, despite the pain of the stick it kept playing, kept going back, probably my favorite visualizer in the whole album, if you want to hear the story in more detail quad posted it on his tiktok pretty sure, there's so much symbolism and interpretations to be pulled from this album, every listen it feels like it means something different, love u bob, keep up the reactions ur the 🐐
@butterclout don't remember it was like a year ago since I heard the story lol, as I said in the og comment I'm pretty sure he made a tiktok talking about it so If you wanna hear the story in more detail I'd watch that
Great video man. I learned of you from Quadeca’s Instagram Story. You’ve earned a sub, it’s rare to see music lovers do real in-depth reactions like this, really nice to watch especially for an album I love this much.
So glad you reacted to this album! Loved how deep you went with your analysis. I hope one day Quadeca tells everyone the intended story of the album in full because I remember him saying somewhere that he is telling a specific story. It would be cool if you react to Scrapyard as well 👍
I'm so happy you reacted to this, are you planning on reacting to Scrapyard? It's a fantastic album as well. It's primarily made up of scrapped songs for this project, but it's a wonderful listen as well.
No cuts, no ads, no copyright claim, no restrictions
@quadecaX8 is for the people 👍

how could we as a species do better than personifying carbon monoxide? best album ever, no contest
he used the quadiki torches for the lighting
LOL
1:11:39 the way i interpret that birthday line is that his new birthday is the day of his death. He died a human and got birthed as a ghost
to add to that, that entire verse is alluding to the mourning of his death, which is why he mentions the act of celebrating it. we're known for making shrines or altars to mourn the dead, and lighting candles in memory. quadeca is presumably seeing this, and "celebrating" along with them. but it gets interesting.
"those candles that you couldn't light. you threw them out and wondered why."
this is a picture quadeca is trying to paint. during the ceremonies/mournings, he is there blowing the candles as they're being lit, which is why they never seem to catch spark. in the physical world, it just seems like these candles don't light properly.
"don't know why i blew them out for me. until i forgot how to breathe"
this line insinuates quadeca had no reasoning for blowing out his candles, but in the final lines of the verse, surprisingly he gives us one, contradicting this very statement. there's multiple ways to look at that, but i think the one that makes the most sense is that quadeca has relfected over some time, realized the lack of power he has after death, and concludes that blowing out those candles was and always will be meaningless.
this would also explain why he says, "until i forgot how to breathe", something seen as impossible for a ghost. and yet earlier, we established that he did, leaving you wondering how? i think the fact quad says FORGOT to breathe, and not that he COULDN'T is important. because breathing is such a natural thing to us, we can't fathom ever FORGETTING how to do it. we don't need to think to breathe, our brain does it for us. willpower alone keeps us subconsciously breathing, and perhaps for quadeca, his will to want to live again allowed him to breathe subconsciously, temporarily allowing him to blow out a candle. until, the muscle memory that acts as the foundation for our subconscious breathing, vanishes and quadeca forgets altogether.
that line is a representation of being powerless/transforming into nothing after death, at least when it comes to the physical nature. and let me tell you quadeca, is NOT having it.
"i popped a vein and i made a wish. i made a wish that'll never be"
he's FURIOUS, ANGRY, and UPSET at the fact that he's no longer able to experience life. reality in this moment, is telling quadeca you can't breathe, you can't speak, you can't change anything, you're fading away. it's at this point, after blowing out the candles from before, that quadeca makes a birthday wish, one that'll never ever come to fruition. a wish to live once more.
this scene alone is so beautifully and meticulously thought out. it's a represntation of human nature . how would we react, feel, and what would we do if we were a spirit/ghost and saw our families, friends, and communities mourning us. we're already known to die with regrets. what if i did this in my life, where would i be if i stuck to this path, what would've changed if i, etc.. it's just like that, except you're not coming to peace knowing it's over and you'll die soon, no you're a ghost and very much able to think/feel, placing you in an extreme state of coping.
i'd probably visit familiar locations too. i'd probably try to reach the physical realm and find a way to impose myself, candles or not. i'd inevitable fade away/forget through time, and that would infuriate me as well. in the end, we'd reach a climax, consisting of weeping and breaking down.
"all those little things, i should've said out loud"
is that climax. musically and narrative-wise. but then again, this is merely my perspective.
@@mo_riz "popped a vein"
pretty sure he's also just referencing his suicide, and his previous notion/image of being dead: his hopeful fantasyworld. he wished that he would find peace, but ironically he's watching the mortal world moving on without him and it's haunting him. there currently wasn't any peace for him at this moment. i really do love this theme or aspect of the album - his whole death being sort of a "posthumous glitch" as he calls it. it's a big part of the premise of this album. e.g. with the line on tell me a joke "the door must've broke. how could it be? it's a set-up, the punchline is me".
if we take this line literally though, it could be confusing, since it's implied that he took his life via. hanging himself, I guess. your interpretation makes sense too tho. I'm mostly looking forward to bob's additional thoughts if he has some. that's why i, trying to comment more details and some food for thought if you know what i mean.

ikrrr i still remember watching his reaction to jpegmafia's veteran and i always couldn't make sense of what peggy was talking about and put two and two together that the chaotic glitchy ever changing beats do play into that anxious never being really comfortable and essentially the theme of him being bold and confronting while still having these anxiety that he tries to run from

Bobs family wondering around in darkness while he reacts to quads album 😂
Hi bob!! a few things from ur discords resident extremely dedicated quadeca fan! (technically no spoilers, because absolutely nothing has been confirmed explicitly by quad)
Thats all!! I'm so glad you're finally doing this :)
-Callie
oh and my personal theory for the END of the album is him accepting his own death and moving on from being a ghost. the slow fade to static is the light at the end of the tunnel. this could also be a reversal of the line in Knots "I don't fade to black I cut to static," -- in fact, he does neither, but both.
Great comment!! Bob did get a lot of the story and concept, but I do think understanding these few things that he missed better really does lead to appreciating the album more, so it's cool to see other people who know this much about the album share their knowledge! That said, i'm about to do the exact same thing and share a bit of mine, so here are a few other things I'd like to also say :)
(as can be seen here indyguide.com/tours/semipalatinsk-nuclear-test-site)
4. Yep, Thor Harris was a member of Swans from 2010 to 2016, contributing to a few of the band's (extremely) highly regarded classics, such as "The Seer", "To Be Kind" and "The Glowing Man". And of course music nerds, casual enjoyers, and critics alike are gonna go absolutely ape shit when you mix that with inclusions from Danny Brown, one of experimental hip-hop's most forward thinking and genre defining artists, as well as the Sunday Service Choir, which is "lead" by Kanye West (note that the album was released shortly after all the controversies started happening, meaning this collaboration happened way before that (also, there's a video on @quadecaexclusives1272 where he shows a studio session with the choir itself!))
Anyways, I hope whoever's reading this has an amazing day!! o7

thank you Callie. Learned a lot from this
Thank you, Callie, great write up :)
How I interpret the album:
The character of the album is a version of Quadeca who follows through on taking his own life.
I think this album is a masterpiece but I can't wait for the Scrapyard reaction cause every single song on that thing is so damn fun to listen to

oh no fuckin way. no way you're doing this album bob. thank you. legendary piece of art this album is, and it's now accompanied by a legendary open-minded bald headed god to react to it. album's real special 2 me.
ill never forget when i heard/ saw memories lost in translation, when i finally understood it and almost lived what he (as the ghost) was going through, heavy shit. EXTREMELY heavy. emotions just came out on that track, i don't think i ever had that type of reaction before to a song. something about those flashbacks, and "he's getting away from me", thinking about that song mixed with the visuals just makes you feel like and know: this is what it's like to leave life, right now, all your memories playing before you "go", leaving you're loved ones, that disconnect is hard to watch, ESPECIALLY knowing that he committed suicide to get himself there, and there's no going back, to anything, its just barren, but this piece of memory and what knowing what life was, your own mother raising you as a little baby, your highs, your lows, seeing it ALL like this for one last time as it's getting away... forever... whew. what an extraordinary and haunting (lol) project that just takes you to another realm man. unreal, terrifying when you go thru the album and put yourself in his shoes.
can't wait for the additional thoughts. i feel like quad is definitely gonna see and watch this video
Even now two years since it's release, I'm still in awe of how he produced this album himself and how incredibly detailed it is. I literally cannot wait for his upcoming album

*1.* _Recording stuff details or something_
You did a great job covering most of the themes, especially nostalgia.
*2.* _Cassini’s Division_
Cassini's Division refers to the gap between Saturn’s rings.
*3.* _Carbon Monoxide in House Settling_
House Settling keeps getting deeper the more I listen thematically, contextually and in so many ways.
ALSO
Quadeca released an exclusive music video on his Quadeca Exclusives channel for sorry4dying. he says that it's a cartoon (I forgot where it's from), that he saw as super fitting with the song thematically, lyrically, contextually and so on. or he didn't say exactly that, but you know what I mean. that's probably what he meant. since you were interested in the visual "symbology" in this movie, maybe you could be interested in that. just a sidenote.

LETS GO QUAD REACTION!! QUAD DID💯💯
When you were talking at the end about something like a bat going through the light i was actually shocked because for a first time listen you picked up on so many things and themes of this album. A fun fact about the final track (which you can watch quadeca himself speak about) is that because his camera was corrupting whilst filming that final shot of him on the rocks, he has to record the camera footage from a camcorder. whilst he did this, bugs were attracted to the light and therefore got captured on the camera (almost like a second layer) and the best thing about all of this is that the theme of this track is him dying and going to the light. so these insects going to the light symbolises not only quadecas dead but everyones and every creatures.
i listened to this album around a year ago and didnt think much of it but you made me reexperiance it and it now became one of my favorite album experiences of all time

your analysis of this album is so good. you're so analytical and creative with your review!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Cool little tidbit. The “you want her, you need her. She no longer needs you” bit of Born Yesterday is actually a sample of The Beatles ‘For No One’
The album movie idea from Quadeca is amazing. I’m sure plenty of people have done it before him but it’s not a hugely popular idea, and he executes it to perfection, it makes the music even better.
You NEED to react to Scrapyard, for sure his best album
BIG DISAGREE AS A IDMTHY DICKRIDER BUT YES SCRAPYARD IS AMAZING
Idk if it’s better than IDMTHY. It’s probably easier on the ears though.
@@archiewall124 exactly!
idmthy is definitely better but yeah scrapyards great
I remember asking bob to react to this when it came out, didn’t think we’d get here but here we are!
idk if anyone else feels this the whole aesthetic of the movie and even certain shots - specfically the piano shot at night in the tell me a joke portion - strongly reminds me of the film a ghost story. i love both so so so much
Hey Bob! Loved the reaction, this is one of my favorite albums of all time so I'm glad you checked it out. I do want to specify a couple things relating to the story of this album:
I’m pretty sure he hanged himself based on Knots
he defintely hung himself.
@@dylancovella1447 that's honestly pretty compelling I didn't think of it that way
@@dylancovella1447 and there's also a pretty dark humor joke/double or maybe even triple entendre on fractions on infinity that heavily implies him hanging himself. "I think I hit my target weight, got exorcised while I stood in place"
hitting his target weight = his spirit left his body from killing himself, rendering his spirit weightless: what he wanted. he basically got exorcised. but it's also a WEIGHT LOSS. an exercise, which is funny cause he stood in place - without even having to move much like you do for an exercise. and basically, what he means by stood in place, is him dropping of the chair, and hanging himself.
hope I didn't do a poor job of explaining that bar. there might also be an additional meaning, don't remember. there's also him - like, the *actual* real life quadeca losing a lot of weight for this album.
That one light on your face really sets up the mood for this reaction
YESSSSSSSS, finally Quadeca is getting more love and credit that he rightfully deserves!!!!
BRO IS REACTING TO MY GOAT, NOW ITS ALL OVER MY SCREEEEEEEEEN

Video 102 asking bob to listen to MIKE - Burning desire
One of the most interesting albums I’ve ever heard. The more you listen to it, the better it gets. Absolutely love tell me a joke and fractions of infinity
the opening image from dont mind me is a place in Juneau Alaska that I've been. It's gorgeous.
Loved watching you explore this album all the way through. Would love to see you listen to Scrapyard at some point!

1:09:02 "the edge of nothing" sounds like the idea for quadeca's upcoming album vanisher horizon scraper

@@butterclout probably mid to late 2025 after quadecas Europe tour
Born yesterday is easily among the best songs of the 2020s so far imo

We still need Mavi - Let The Sun Talk
Much love Bob!
thank you for the explanation! glad to see i got most of it right lol
Before I even watch, I just wanna say, AHHHHHHHHHH OMGGGGGGG
This was such a good reaction! Seeing your enthusiasm for the music you were hearing and listening to your interpretations of the songs was so cool! :)
The memories we lost in translation always gives me goosebumps
And fantasy world. Listening to them in order hits the feels

Born Yesterday is so unbelievably packed with emotions, it’s definitely my fav on here
Omg! Same wave length...love you Bob the GoatGoat 🎉
Oh awesome! So glad to hear you listen to this one. Such a great album.
1:48:09 never been blueballed this hard
Fun fact the dog in the picking up hands virualizer was just a random dog that came into the shot, its mouth was bleeding, the more he played fetch the worse it was getting, but the dog didnt want to stop, despite the pain of the stick it kept playing, kept going back, probably my favorite visualizer in the whole album, if you want to hear the story in more detail quad posted it on his tiktok pretty sure, there's so much symbolism and interpretations to be pulled from this album, every listen it feels like it means something different, love u bob, keep up the reactions ur the 🐐
did he end up helping the dog
@butterclout don't remember it was like a year ago since I heard the story lol, as I said in the og comment I'm pretty sure he made a tiktok talking about it so If you wanna hear the story in more detail I'd watch that
THANK YOU BOB I NEEDED THIS SO MUCH ❤❤❤❤
LETS FUCKING GO MY FAV ALBUM OF 2022
I love how analytical yo get with the music videos, provides me with a lot of extra thoughts I had not properly went over prior
Hell yeah I never thought we'd get a reaction to this.
Quadeca is unironically the most insane producer I’ve ever listened to. It’s so crazy the talent he has
This day can't get any better. Bob reacting to one of my favorite albums
Great video man. I learned of you from Quadeca’s Instagram Story. You’ve earned a sub, it’s rare to see music lovers do real in-depth reactions like this, really nice to watch especially for an album I love this much.
im so happy and excited you decided to check this out, lets goooo
If you do decide to go for a spooky October, you should hear 6 feet deep by gravdiggaz

YESSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!❤❤
fantasyworld is about suicide, it kind of deviates from the story to go back in time to when the character kills himself before becoming a ghost
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG OH MY GODDD ❤❤❤ THANK YOU BOB
Been waiting for this forever
this is so wonderful, happy to see you listen and truly experience it
HIVEMIND has changed the trajectory of any future comment section of a video where quonkus is mentioned
how so?
So glad you reacted to this album! Loved how deep you went with your analysis. I hope one day Quadeca tells everyone the intended story of the album in full because I remember him saying somewhere that he is telling a specific story. It would be cool if you react to Scrapyard as well 👍
first youtube collaboration this is hitting new levels
Youre gonna love Scrapyard so much
i loooove this album it has such an inspiring background
also you should absolutely check out his newest project scrapyard its amazing as well
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR SO LONG FOR QUADECA OMGGGGG HYPEEEE
I'm so happy you reacted to this, are you planning on reacting to Scrapyard? It's a fantastic album as well. It's primarily made up of scrapped songs for this project, but it's a wonderful listen as well.
my favourite album of all time, love this reaction!
Maaaaan I wanted this reaction for a long time
in “knots” he says “i don’t fade to black, i cut to static” and he ends the album off with 3 minutes of static
English teachers must try analyse this to get a taste of what I feel like trying to understand the unseen poem in my exam
Watched on the patreon but wanted to come show support in the video in hopes for more Quadeca reactions
