Imagine that there is a timeline where Larnell Lewis didn't show up, so Cory Henry played drums on that record. No solo on Lingus, no solo on What About Me. Sad.
You know, there are ways to get around the dreaded audience clapping on 1 & 3. Here is a video of Harry Connick, Jr. having enough of it, so he adds one bar of 5/4 to get the crowd clapping on 2 & 4 whether they wanted to or not: ua-cam.com/video/UinRq_29jPk/v-deo.html
I didn’t know this documentary even existed until the UA-cam algorithm Gods revealed it to me. To be honest, I was hoping they would have talked more about the logistics and feelings inside the recording room for the album. Each song was so unique and took you on such an epic journey that there was so much to discuss. I would love to see more behind-the-scenes of the recording day. I can’t get enough of Snarky Puppy!
My band played in Germany a few years back (a small town called Soest) at a beer festival and there were street drinking kids ranging from about 10 up to about 15 or 16 (definitely a few that weren't teenagers yet). They sat at a bus stop, finished a crate and took all the empties away with them afterwards. German kids have a differemt relationship with alcohol than we Brits do that's for sure! 😂
This whole record was just one single "how to produce a masterpiece - album in 4 days" - challenge. And the result came out with such a bang, it left an impact in the new jazz world! And you can still feel it's ripples waving. Thank you so much for uploading this Documentary! Let's hope it doesn't get taken down soon.
My first weekend in theatre school in like 2013 I had just moved to Toronto from Rural northern Ontario. some friends and I got into a pub where snarky puppy was playing... still one of the best atmospheres I can remember, these guys had the sidewalks bumping half-way down the street.
I don't know what prevented Sput from recording with them, and I hope it wasn't something serious, but with all due respect to the great drummer he is, I'm glad it happened.
One word describes my feelings regarding the band. Respect. No preconceived musical formula, no record label telling them you need to play this or that. It is so refreshing to listen to a band that plays music for the sheer pleasure of playing great music.
Hey thanks for the ride in all accounts...at 65 ya'all inspire such a good vibe at spontaneous energy throughout A wonderful spirit....thanks guys !!! 2023....
I LOVE YOU ALL! You are all Super Human (says my children)! Thank you for sharing with us.... Nate Werth is massively underrated - nuff love and respect
Music and performance of this caliber in and of itself make this a timeless album, but the stories behind the album are what makes it one of my favorites of all time.
Snarky Puppy is amazingly beautiful talent-wise. I wish our society blended together intrinsically as these musicians. I can't make my mind go to negative thoughts racially, they don't seem to show it. I feel racism from it oozing out of society. But musicians that work with and respect musical categories are too creative to be concerned with racial negativity. I will allow myself to say I am glad each of these men was born, they are a treasure, for my musical appetite and musical diversity. I wish they had a WORLD I could move into, my health, peace of mind, loving heart, and stress would heal maybe overnight.
At 6:02, you can see as the trumpetists are finishing up, waaaaaay over on the other side of the room, Jay points over to Larnell. There wasn't a single person in the room who didn't realize that Larnell brought the missing piece of the puzzle.
Best documentary I've ever watched!! So cool to get a behind the scenes look on snarky puppy, and it just shows how crazy good they all are and can pull anything off.
Such a bless to live at the same time as Snarky Puppy exists, thanks for bringing such a joy to many lives that can experience your vision of jazz, I'm grateful! ❤️
My favourite band ever, I had no idea that you guys went from zero to album in 5 days !!! And Larnell you are a true inspiration, you all are, total respect to you all. I can’t wait for lockdown to be over and you can get your booties over to london !!
Hearing that the band had four days to write and learn 14 new songs had me shaking my head. Learning Larnell had two hours knocked me out of my chair. ......damn....
you just made 2020 a lot better by uploading this!
No lies detected
I highly Second you there Bro... this is truly inspirational
... Make that 2021 as well!
...And 2022!
❤❤❤❤❤
so , Larnell is a genius . i guess thats one of the things we can all say out loud with a lot of confidence
Yep! I would also confidently say the same about Mr. League.
Yup
Absolutely those two break my brain
Don't be silly... that's not possible...He's actually an alien.

Wow what a cool quote, thank you!

That still would’ve been killin’ cause he’s tight on drums too!
Im glad he did show because hes the reason i found snarky puppy.
@@FODteam Me too. What a find. My entire life changed since discovering this .
@@FODteam 110% agreed - LL makes the music tighter!
The darkest timeline?
So basically the greatest freestyle band 😂
😂
To be silent, while Musicians playing, is our way to respect :-). (( although some of us clap on 1 + 3 ))

I read about this documentary in the comments on some of the reaction videos. I had no idea about the background story craziness! :)
Thank you that's the same thing I was saying
9 year old German kids: *drinking apple juice with sparkling water*

Snarky Puppy: Yeah those kids were drinking beer and nobody even cared!

The Snarky family is the absolute coolest group of people. 2021.. please allow these folks to play again.
1:27 "I've got the biggest joint I've ever rolled"
Who said that ? cant hear it in the video.
@@Shivhari Jay Jennings said it just a bit later at 1:29.
@@VariusAvenger Dude I knew it. Go look at Jay Jennings in the "Tell Your Friends" recordings and tell me that guy is not seriously stoned as hell.
They are in the Netherlands. What else do you expect?
Hah! Yup.

These gentlemen have earned their awards and praises by hard work and conviction. That is crystal-clear.

I think my friends are tired of me talking about Snarky P. I don't care; this is an outstanding group. More please.

@@soyboymia136 Catching up with you. I am obsessed.
Just saw em live. Lifetime thing. Go. Put it on the bucket list 😎
Some say there’s a documentary about Snarky puppy in this video. I just saw rules to play a new game that I will pass on to future generations
These European crowds sound like my kind of crowd. People who are there specifically for the music.
34:58 we NEED the full version.
Fr! 🤣 Need a full album of these called Snarky Shenanigans
At some point in my life I want to see Snarky Puppy x Guthrie Govan. This REALLY needs to happen.
seriously
This Album Was Composed In Four Days, Larnell Came Through And He Learnt The Music On The Flight Over. This Was MEANT To Be
I say this with all the love I can muster from the bottom of my heart...Larnell Lewis, you are the biggest nerd I’ve ever seen
8:24 Mark just wanna say he is the most handsome guitarist in the band
Tbh he is

Imagine Larnell Lewis heard and practice this on the plane while bound to Europe to have recording session with SP. And the rest is history

something about his passport if I'm not mistaken.
he was touring with marcus miller, saw him here in the netherlands
His passport was expired and he didn't know.
Yep, it led to one of the most epic and legendary drum performances!

R.I.P. Eric Hartman ❤️
is he dead ???? omg
Straight up AAA+ level musicians right here. It is beyond talent
Nate Werth had me dying😂😂
Now I see how Larnell got his plug. He was DESTINED to be there.
Awesome band, awesome doco. By the way, that game is called 'Coin Rugby' in New Zealand and we play it with the goal facing the other way up.
I love how bass players who hands move and not the fingers, and yet some funky ass complicated bass lines just splash out
As a bass player who does that me too man
You mean there are other takes of the songs that we didn't get to hear?! Man! I want to hear all the other takes! They should release all of it!
The professionalism and genius of these guys are incomparable... Second to none
Been going down the rabbit hole on this band recently after seeing Lingus in my recommendations so awesome to find this
This is a must watch til the end. These guys are so freaking inspiring, I wanna do exactly what they are doing
I loved the ending. It really shows how far they have come.
