Bob. I hate to admit this but I listened to Snarky Puppy for the 1st time last week on UA-cam. Empire Central, Belmont & Trinity completely blew me away. Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed the performance, originality, musicianship, arrangements and the complete production. Very nice mix. This is some of the greatest music I have heard in a long time. I was impressed when I heard Weather Report and Return to Forever in the mid 70s, but you guys are bad to the bone. Great tenor solo Bob in Empire Central. I pre-ordered the 2 CD set. Have fun in Europe.
@@jacquelamontharenberg Just wait till you hear Bob in Outlier off the We Like It Here album. Completely amazing track from beginning to end. ua-cam.com/video/4Qo1NFwMhBA/v-deo.html
I am one of those people that just gets huge emotions boil up when I listen to music, usually jazz, watery eyes and shaky voice for seemingly any amazing moment in a piece. I always look forward to a new Snarky album. I love that moment at 4:40 when that lady was getting feels, I have hoped for years to one day be able to see one of these sessions live.
So glad Detroit was in the house. BERNARD WRIGHT. Damn!!! I know Funk when I hear it. Funk is the ring around your bath tub. RIP MR WRIGHT. THAT 3 KIT ENDING FIRE. MUSIC MAKES ME HAPPY.
Bob - Y’all have the “thing” that I always dreamed of in regards to a life in music. A diverse community of passionate, dedicated musicians coming together and “putting their egos wherever socks go” to create something beyond marvelous! Right now my life has taken a turn into some deep, deep blues, but when I witness you guys creating such beauty, camaraderie and groove it forces a huge smile in spite of all else. I’m so grateful y’all are in the world! PS - As an NTSU (‘86) grad I get the Texas/World thing ;^)
Happy Birthday, Bob!! 🎉 The day is done where you are, but I hope your birthday was fantastic for you! I really enjoyed the video, as well as your reactions. Super fun! I have loved the cuts released already, and look forward to hearing the whole thing. You can “Bet” Snarky will be in my head set tomorrow!! Stay safe, stay healthy, and enjoy the tour!
THANK YOU BOB!!!! You are amazing! I still get chills watching your solo where LL had your back when your headphones fell off of your head (We like it here). BRILLIANT Performance. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing all this "behind the scene" through that React or through your other video. Snarky Puppy is an incredible band and you guys deserve the whole world for what you're bringing to music.
Happy birthday Bob! I loved seeing how your reactions to the snippets of keyboard action from Shaun, Bobby & Nard were identical to mine. Now I'll never clean that ring around the bathtub ever again!
Currently the part Bob plays in Pineapple from 1:18 onwards, especially that CLEAN lick from 1:30-1:34... is living rent free in my head (and Bose headphones)
Happy Birthday, Bob. I have been waiting for Empire Central almost as long as I have been looking forward to your b-day. 😉🤣 Enjoy the tours. Isn't life grand?
So great! All signed up to come to Ground Up in February. Have a great time on the tour(s)! And we're looking forward to your behind-the-scenes take, when you can get to it. They are always a blast!
Woooooooo.... 😄.... such incredible musicians.... such incredible art.... Happy Belated Birthday Bob!!! Your energy and happiness fills the room always.
OK, now having had a chance to listen through the whole album a couple of times, GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY, are you f****** kidding me, this is such wonderful music, Dang!
Currently the part Bob plays in Pineapple from 1:18 onwards, especially that CLEAN lick from 1:30-1:34... is living rent free in my head (and Bose headphones)
Empire Central is an absolute masterpiece,I don't know how you guys keep doing this, just when I think you couldn't get any better, you do,there seems to be no upper limit to your abilities, it's unbelievable. 😮❤️
Very cool to go thru this with you (and happy birthday, Bob!). This is the hippest of the hip! Looking forward to the release (having heard some/all of this once last May in Miami - will be there again next Feb!)
Bob - Last night was a blast, u guys killed it! Sight reading is one skill to have, reading in between the lines is something else... or you can just write a song for her :) I hope u all having a great time on tour, and I'll definitely see u next time.
Happy Birthday, Bob. I can totally relate to the tunnel vision experienced until it's all done and in the can. So good that you have this marvelous documentation of it all to look back upon, and enjoy in a way so rare for a musician. You guys kill. Thanks for the music, and the joy.
Damn, I forgot to say happy (belated) birthday Bob! Adding to what I said before: It would be wonderful if you did a video about your thoughts on what makes a thriving, creative musical community. I’ve always been intrigued by the personal stories of influential musicians when they tell about how they were inspired, brainstormed, collaborated and made the hang with other musicians, artists, actors, thinkers, writers, business people etc that I wouldn’t have guessed. I don’t know if it’s possible, but it would also be incredible if you got into some of the nuts and bolts about how Snarky Puppy is motivated and organized(?). Maybe it’s just anarchy, but that would be fun to know too.
I can remember when people were afraid to go into Deep Ellum. A place important to the formation of Texas blues and it is said where Blind Lemmon Jefferson was discovered so he could be recorded. A significant place to music.
Hey I am a big fan of Snarky Puppy since 2016, this band is amazing and guess what it's my husband and my 38th wedding anniversary~I am a classical pianist w an BM & MM in pno however total jazz esp but also R & B soul you name it grew up in DC my Dad came up in music in dance bands then classical comp so big bands oh yeah SO awesome BTW my Dad played alto and tenor sax, some soprano and had a barito ne sax too
I honestly thought Outlier was the absolute pinnacle of live-recorded music, it's a masterpiece. But it may just be topped by Trinity. That song and performance was so joyful I dance every time. Bongo don't dance.
Hey Bob, you talked about doing some BTS video - it would be SUPER COOL if you could show how these tunes come into being - what is the starting point like? How much detail is there in the typical demo that the composer gives the band? How do you get from there to these collective "sing the section together" things? How much is added by the players are the tune comes together? How much can things change from the initial demo? How much time / how many times through before the thing is played for the audience? and how do things go over the course of the multiple sets of the session? Any crash & burn incidents in front of the listeners? This might be asking too much, but Inquiring Minds Want To Know!
I gotta ask after watching this and your own behind the scenes: why are you making it so hard on yourself? is it schedules or does Snarky sort of need that absolut grind/drive of working in that intense pace? I mean: why not take a week more, why working deep into the nights and memorizing everything just a night before, why that stress? is there no other way or is it just that all you guys find, that you trigger each other best in that way? :)
I do feel like at some point I should address this through a video. Many have responded similarly. I understand the confusion. There is method to the madness.
@@bobreynolds I get it to some point - a german artist once said "there is only a certain timeframe you have to make a song really fat" - I'm paraphrasing. but there is a certain momentum and drive to doing it like that and you are flowing with it, almost seemlessly to greatness... still I would assume you guys are all such great musicians (and professionals) so I would assume a little break here and there would be beneficial (at least on a personal level :D) but: I'm looking forward to the video.
I wonder if Snarky Puppy will ever have any of the really good female musicians out there, in the band. Not because they are female, but because they are really good.
