I had the experience of seeing a CAT 797 run at Caterpillar's proving grounds near Tuscon many years ago....it was like a LARGE yellow house coming down the road at 30 mph, it was frightening. You knew nothing was going to stop that thing. Enjoyed this video.
April fools around the corner and everyone getting a bit loopy from being stuck inside and you end up with some madman asking: What would happen if you gave a giant dump truck more hp than an aircraft carrier?
That would absolutely ruin the track. Imagine the repair bill you'd be given, along with the criminal charges for stealing the massive piece of pit mining equipment.
But being known as the mad mofo that stole a multi million dollar piece of mining equipment and lapped the Nordschleife though! Not to mention the fact that I believe that in Germany they haven't got any of those behemoths.
@@michaelmartin9022 The 797 has a much bigger engine with much more torque and also a much lower top speed than a semi, so I guess a 7-speed is enough.

There's a mine site safety training video of one of these here in Oz running over a Landcruiser (i.e. don't park in the path of these trucks), and as the Haulpac flattens the 'cruiser, the view from the cab just shows a very gentle speed hump event.
My Girlfriend does not care for my sim racing, but i finally got her to watch one of your videos as she drives a 797F and 797B for a mining company. Hopefully moving up to the bigger 798 truck.
I use to see dump trucks that big and bigger when I used to live in Tennessee. They were building a new highway and anytime they had to do something like that there they would have to blast rock constantly. Those dump trucks were MASSIVE!
Interesting side effect of how tall this truck is, you're able to see scenery around the track that you never could from a car. Like, I didn't even realize the Nordschleife crossed any bridges until now. Or that it passed by a gas station. Or that it ran alongside a highway towards the end of the back straight. Crazy.
Im pretty sure that those trucks are awd with electric motors at all four corners. The massive diesel that is in it runs electric generators and hydraulic pumps, braking systems, air con etc.
At my job we have these at my job and it really is as massive as it looks. We even have a garage door that fits this, so we can bring it inside the garage to work on it.
My dad used to work on these in open cut mines and he recently told me that the back bit completes the exhaust system. His work mates had the idea of lifting it up a bit and doing donuts. I don't have any idea how they did donuts in those things but it would have sounded awesome without the whole exhaust.
Those cat trucks are a hotrod in real life. Its both cool and terrifying to watch those trucks rip by with a full load bouncing the tires off the ground. You feel the exhaust in your chest from a long way away. Impressive machines.
