Guy from the first pic here! This picture depicts an experimental rig which was supposed to give me the f1 sitting position experience... Long story I'd rather drag my face across rb9's exhaust than sit there again (still rocking the g29 but with a proper stand!)
11:36 here! That's the MVH Studios F1 style rim for a G29, and yep -- I decided to upgrade to a decent rig frame first and then get a new wheel later on, intending on some Moza gear in a month or two hopefully. Definitely right about feeling more immersed in a rig, feels way better than clamped to a desk and can turn the FFB up higher as a result.
Highly recommend Moza. Have the R6 bundle with the optional clutch pedal and the formula wheel frame added. Updated from the same wheel as you and it’s night and day with how much better of a wheel it is. Hoping you get your hands on one soon brother!
Awesome rig! Glad you're having fun with it. As for upgrades, I vote go pedals first. They get a much bigger return on investment even if it doesn't look as fancy as a dd wheel.
As someone who got a CSL DD first instead of a proper rig, yup, you're right. Clamped to a table is useable but sometimes it's a pain in the ass. Especially the LC brake paired with a rolling chair.
4:46 Thanks for the respect of my rig. That was the only rig I could fit into the only area I could place it, and it is set up for a formula type seating position. I do run Heusinkveld Ultimate+ pedals. I do record and post videos of league and endurance races to my UA-cam page (Shameless plug).

Mono 13:50 here : i already found solutions for the pedals and chair, and i don’t really know anything about tire pressure so it’s good to know that i have to look into that also added my ps2 back into the mix
For everyone that has a "wheeley" chair and do sim racing, the fix that I did on my setup was to buy a rubber mat for the floor and it helps prevent the Wheels to move a lot more. In my case was a decathlon Ground Cover mat for a threadmill, it has a rubbery feel. Cheers!
you can also get "sliders" that replace the wheels that are just bits of plastic, moves pretty easily when not in the chair but barely moves when sat in it
Great tip if you race with a pad: Drill into the thumb-pad and superglue a bit of dowel in there, about an inch long. Then get hold of another pad (can be a cheap, broken one), cut one of the thumbpads off, drill out the back of it and glue it onto the bit of dowel. Extending the length of the thumbpad by even half an inch like this increases the fidelity of the controls by a crazy amount and makes it so much easier to do gentle, smooth inputs..
it's not just the wheels on desk chairs, it's the swivel too. fighting force feedback can twist you around and effect your pedal pressure and overall wheel control
Mines at 14:45 It is self made, and its in pieces as the mount for the base broke because i didnt reinforce them properly when designing the rig (literally tore the box section at the corners lmao)
Love to see a fellow enjoyer of the objectively better F1 on the desktop at 12:17 . Raf, I don't like racing against you in YGRL, but good job for getting those cars seen
I just love seeing the creative soloutions that fellow budget or space limited people have. Often simple yet genius ways of improving basic setups for next to nothing.
For those who are building their own rig and aren't bothered with a little work, you could have a comfy seat for sim racing for cheap or an office chair, but that might be a bit more work. Check out used car parts yards for car seats. Just don't go hoping find Bride/Recaro seats for cheap, that's not likely to happen. What you're looking for are commuter cars like a corolla/civic. Go for the passenger seat because it'll likely have less wear and such. From $100 - $300, you've got a cheap/comfortable seat, might want to clean it before use though. Just a warning, the seat might be too tall for premade rigs, take measurements before buying seats. Also, custom brackets may be required.
Ayyy the sequential mod with rubber bands for the Logitech shifters was dope. I still use my old g27 shifter with rubber bands and a standalone adapter as my sequential. Plus a longer metal shift knob. I bought a new 7 speed plus reverse as well.
9:35 I did a similar thing but to use my g27 h shifter as an e-brake, where the elastic pulled the shifter forward, and when i went into 4th, it would engage the e-brake. I hadn't thought of the sequential hack, since i had flappy paddle shifters on the wheel.
10:10 - Scraping shit out of the cracks in controllers, remotes and anything else electrical that you hold is one of my favourite things in the world. You have to let it build up a little bit though to achieve maximum satisfaction.
I had to recently update from a G27 to a G923 but I made use of the "rubber band" mod. Longer screws at 9 and 3 o'clock on the shifter, and lots of knicker elastic. Made for an excellent sequential shifter or handbrake.
When I had a wheelchair I would use old socks or a piece of cleaning cloth to lock the wheels, just get it stuck between the wheel and the casing, it's pretty effective.
The most shocking thing about these rigs for me is that so many of the shifters were on the left. As a simple mainland European dude right-hand drive fries my brain.
There are a lot of cool mods for the G29/G920 these days, I've got magnetic pads for the shift paddles that make it a lot snappier, and I've seen a proper sequential kit for the G29 shifter. It's a fairly permanent change and so I've never invested in it but it's nice to know it exists. I think I've seen a proper mod kit to make the shifter into a handbrake as well.
reg: seats.. Yes Jimmer, I need me a plus size seat too. My rig has this beautiful sparco seat on it, but I simply dont fit. Think I'll go buy a nice used car seat from a breaker instead. Bonus points if I can get the seatwarmer working. Lush!
I used that Ikea table (but in black) with Fanatec CSR weighed down with 2 x 8" hexahonal concrete slabs wrapped in a black bin bag with 42 inch tv on top of the slabs. Seating was a leather passenger seat from an alpha 156 screwed directly to the floor (rack still operational)
I got a g293. The rubber band trick is genius! It's been a real source of annoyance and removes a lot of the immersion to have the handbrake mapped to a button on the wheel. Will definitely try it on my next rally stint.
Here's a solution that worked better with my g27 shifter. Remove the two screws on the left and right and replace them with longer ones or let the original ones stick out. Then you can use that to add the rubber bands to turn your shifter into a sequential one. Way better placement for the rubber bands. Worked like a charm. Used it for years in dirt rally :)
Jimmer got me into sim racing and i love him for it👍 im all in at 600$, Thrustmaster TMX pro and thrustmaster shifter, play assetto on xbox and havent played any other games since i got the rig
Had a G25 years ago grteat wheel for the time, shifter had a big rotating selector changed it from H to sequential, great bit of kit. When I upgraded to a erm G29 (cant remember) I kept the G25 pedals, they where so much better. Moved on to TM now, next will be DD!
I have a t300 on an antique table, that has no space to take the 'leg' part of the wheelbase, so I had to DIY a metal plate and a few wooden panels, that the wheel keeps suspended in front of the table, which in return keeps the wheel attached... hack job, but sufficient for my non existent skills :D
As a fellow dual sim race/flight sim tragic I appreciate the setup at 10:45. Except I can only afford a single monitor so it slides across the desk depending on whether I'm flying or driving...
the dualshock setup reminded me - before i got my wheel i tried using the gyro on my DS4. works absolutely shockingly well, would make a fun video if you tried it out. you'll honestly be surprised, it's a pain holding your arms up but the actual input is really smooth and accurate
My sim rig is a G29 attached to a £16 Argos desk with supports removed so when the wheel turns left, so does the desk. I then sit in a wheeled chair, so hard braking is a fun experience - I use an exercise bike jammed between my chair and bed to keep things in place, which almost kind of works. Oh and I'm plugged into an ethernet cable that's taped to my door. Not much point roasting that really. Still drives straighter than my real car though...
I have a really nice setup, but mine is certainly by far the nastiest of any of these lol. Anyway, Next Level Racing F-GT Lite, Thrustmaster TS-XW Racer + Sparco Alacantara wheel(GT cars) + Ferrari F1 wheel(Formula cars) + T-LCM load cell pedals, VR only(HP Reverb G2).
4:00 I got a desk chair too. my solution is a rug and 2 small planks screwed to a right angle. i use it as a small stopper that can dig into the rug, never fails on me, almost.
I've since moved to a rig, but I started with a G29 and a roller chair. My solution was to wrap the ends of a towel around both of the back wheels, jamming the wheels and preventing them from rolling. It honestly worked pretty well, but I had a few slides backward under very heavy braking. 😆
