I made it yesterday and had 1 jar that didn't seal (lucky me!). We ate the soup in that unsealed jar at dinner tonight and it was wonderful! I canned in quart jars and it's the perfect amount for the 2 of us. Again, I'm so glad that I found this recipe (by accident) and will make it over and over again! Thank you for sharing.
I love this recipe/idea. I can't believe you posted this 4 years ago but it is a keeper. I am gonna go back through your older posts now and see what else I missed! Your new post about making 4 soups from this one base is what brought me here. They all look delicious. Thank you for showing me how to expand my pantry.
Just made this today! OMG this is so goood. We popped two jars open right after they pinged, lolz. I used my own homemade canned chicken broth, and from our garden leeks, carrots, potatoes. The bacon is an amazing addition. Gonna make more tomorrow.
This is my 3rd time canning this recipe. I have learned to make a triple batch because it is so good and if I don't I'll be making more very soon. Thank you for the wonderful recipe!
Wow, I was looking for just potatoes, carrots & onions so that I can have more on hand to add to my stew or to add meat to it that I canned by itself. Found this video and I’m blown away! Making this tomorrow for sure!! Thank you so much!
Looks great! Thanks for doing this video. Just a caution though on using metal utensils in the jar - can cause tiny nicks or cracks and future breakage when the jar is used again for canning.
I LOVE soup and am always looking for new canning recipes for them, trying to get away from the store bought cans. Am absolutely going to make this next week. Thank you for all the great info and recipes you share!
I bet it smell awesome in your kitchen. I love a creamy potato soup. Having the base canned up in pantry is half the battle. Thank you for sharing the goodness.:)
You pretty much incorporated most of my favorite soup veggies. I don't think I'd be able to put it away on the shelf: I'd want it now! The finished soup looked delicious. Another good video, P.P. (:
Hello. Just found this recipe and it looks amazing… can you use a small amount of ham instead of bacon? You could leave the bacon out and just make this a vegetable soup base and can it to longest veggie time?
I was just thinking about doing something like this but I havent seen anyone do it before. I have not canned potatoes before so I am really glad you did this video. :-)
Maybe dehydrated and then frozen to save for a backpacking trip? I am not sure. I have never tried it. I don't dehydrate meats or anything that has meat broth. I know others do though. Sorry I couldn't be of much help.

Thanks, so the potatoes turn color?
Put the potatoes into cold water as you cube them and they won’t turn dark.

Me too. I like to have a wide variety of home canned soups and stews. They are much more tasty than commercially canned soups.
Looks great! Thanks for doing this video. Just a caution though on using metal utensils in the jar - can cause tiny nicks or cracks and future breakage when the jar is used again for canning.
Good point!
We love soup in our house! Will definitely give this a try! Yummy! ~ Deb
It really is a versatile recipe. You can make a lot of different soups from a jar of this base.

Yes to ham substitution. I have never canned a vegetable version only but it seems like that would be the correct time.
Can you use your Thrive life carrots and sliced onions?
I was just thinking about doing something like this but I havent seen anyone do it before. I have not canned potatoes before so I am really glad you did this video. :-)
Let me know how you like it. The soup base is very versatile and can be used for a variety of different soups too

Could you use salt pork instead of bacon as you would for clam chowder base?
Probably
How long would you need to pressure can if you left out the bacon?
Minimum of 35 minutes for pints since the soup base has potatoes as the longest required pressure canning time
How long to pressure can THIS recipe in quarts?
Sorry, the above answer was not for this question. I don't know how to delete it.
YUKON SPUDS ARE GREAT THATS WHAT WE GROW ALL THE TIME
They are my favorite.
Do you think this could be dehydrated?
Maybe dehydrated and then frozen to save for a backpacking trip? I am not sure. I have never tried it. I don't dehydrate meats or anything that has meat broth. I know others do though. Sorry I couldn't be of much help.
could use a smidge of sour cream or yogurt if one didn't have cream, as an idea.
Yes and canned milk would work too
