Enjoyable and informative, Sam. I heard somewhere that Derry/Londonderry is nicknamed "Stroke City". Brandywell Park is an impressive stadium. Are you planning to visit Cork? Cobh Ramblers might be worth a visit.Roy Keane started his playing career at that club.
Gerry Anderson a funny NI radio broadcaster coined the phrase Stroke City referring to the / between Derry and Londonderry. It meant if he was stopped driving back to the North West from Belfast and was stopped by the police, army or paramilitaries and they ask were he was going he said "stroke city'. Basically meant they couldn't work out if he was Catholic who would have said Derry or Protestant who would have said Londonderry.
The Northern Ireland football team is essentially just a Protestant fan base, Catholic players are allowed to play for Republic now which has cemented Catholics support for the Republic. I personally don't support any. The most popular sport for Irish Catholics is Gaelic Football, this sport is very weak in Derry city but strong in the rural areas of the county. Gaelic Football is actually quite strong in Belfast though.
Great job...but...you got to stop saying 'Ireland, Northern Ireland' differentiating, it's just wrong and weird. 'Ireland' is the island of Ireland, it even takes in both jurisdictions, the Republic and the north. Keep it in mind. Even the Protestant churches in all of Ireland recognise the terminology as such, such as the Church of Ireland, Presbyterian Church of Ireland etc etc even the sectarian Orange Order is known as the Grand Orange Lodge of 'Ireland'. Ireland means ALL of the island and it's islands.
The official name of the country is “Ireland”. He’s absolutely correct. It’s the name lodged with the United Nations and it is the official name in our constitution. Of course, lots of Northern organisations like to claim the name only refers to the whole island and therefore we shouldn’t use it but facts beg to differ. “Rep. of Ireland” is a descriptor. Like the “French Republic” or “République Française” is a descriptor of the country called “France”.
@@Dreyno I was making the point principally that 'Ireland' means the entire Island and it's Islands, which is undeniable. Confusingly to outsiders this monicker contains two jurisdictions, namely the U.K (the region of Northern Ireland) and constitutionally 'Ireland' via the southern states constitution (Also known as the Republic and The Republic of Ireland). Mostly using the term Ireland when saying "Crossing into Ireland from Northern Ireland" sounds to most within the entirety of Ireland as weird. He's always in Ireland, even the name Northern 'Ireland' says this, the clue is in the name.
@@NintyFamily The country is Ireland. It’s in our constitution. I don’t much care if some people are confused or annoyed that the official name of the country is, simply, Ireland. That the island is also called that is an aside. It does not take precedent. It’s refreshing that this young man has learned this and uses the correct term unlike so many of his countrymen who insist on using “the Rep. of Ireland”, which, if we’re honest, is almost never used in Ireland u less referencing the football team, or even worse, “Eire”.
@@Dreyno Country= Ireland 1 state and 1 artificial statelet.
Northern Ireland isn't a country either...fact, it doesn't 'officially' have it's own flag or indeed an anthem, the flag which was abolished in 1973, unlike England, Wales or Scotland over in Britain. Also we get that you are a passionate partitionist.

Derry City are one of my favourite respective Northern Irish clubs daily and ever in this world and other planets and to see them playing in their neighbouring country's footballing league is extremely so fascinating indeed but hopefully, they would be playing in the Northern Irish League in years to come, good friends!!!LONG LIVE,DERRY CITY!!!🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️🏋♂️

I agree we should have kept the whole of Ireland.
One country. Illegally divided into two under threat of war .

Scotland out of Britain, Britain out of Ireland. Hopefully we'll be seeing a reunified Ireland and independent Scotland sooner rather than later. Sorry if that's to political for you Sam ;)
England out of Britain Wales out of Britain
Scotland love Britain why they voted stay haha
2 many postal votes, corruption,,did you see the old people dancing when the no vote was announced,,the rich stayed rich, now its food banks for the young families, should get it next time,, could have been vetoed out if it didn't work,, the English people were even shocked
How do you intend to remove Scotland from Britain? Dig a giant River between it and the rest of the island?
