How many folks I saw growing up that tolerated complete jerks who were way too into sports, but then as I was coming up freaked out over us kids being on the computer or playing games at the arcade (yeah, I'm old...). I still meet people in my generation who see nothing wrong with a guy who watches sports all day long and spends half his income on fantasy football, but freak out if you mention WoW or Skyrim or something. And that tolerate that sport bloke getting drunk and rowdy around his family and his kids, but not the guy who stays calm, nice, and sober while playing something online.
If a woman can't appreciate or at least tolerate your hobbies out of love then she isn't worth being with. That was back during Wrath though, the perception of gaming and gamers has changed a LOT since.
This is a great story! Thanks for sharing. I think a lot of us can relate. WoW is almost used as a timeline for our lives. I can remember where I was in life by thinking about what expansion was out 😂
Near the end: mentorship. Young folks are out there trying to prove themselves in life, but they need mentorship - and the ones that will grow into something will do so the day they realize that. Being on the other side of the coin, being willing to look at all the young jerks on your lawn and know that some of them are there for guidance - that's becoming a leader.
Max man you weren't a douche in duality, I thought you were one of the coolest guys in there. You recruited me to tank SoO based on damage parses for tank monks lol.
As a relatively new player, ie WoD was when I started, it’s crazy to hear/learn about all this history from previous expansions and see such an important character like max talk about them from first hand experience. Especially the big moments like world firsts and RL recruitments.
Awesome Max.. I have a similar experience. I was a 16 year old average player who got recruited into a top 15 US guild in vanilla the moment the first ever server transfers opened. I ended up progressing with them in naxxramas and we were world second on KT. Crazy timing and epic moments in my life
Around 15:00 where you're talking about using "Real-time Graphics" for DPS and HPS, there actually was a built-in feature in ReCount, that opened two windows, that showed real-time data as a diagram 👌
You've grown a lot, Max! You should be very proud of the way you hold/represent yourself (now) :) your content is greatly appreciated! Thanks for sharing.
"I hate to use the word magical" We all do, but we all know we had that feeling. I think i had like 30 days /played on lvl 40 priest in tbc because i was just roaming around not giving a shit and i was specced holy so it was really really hard to level for me especially with the gear i had since i didn't folllow questlines for sht. I was 9 years old then and english was not my first language, no one around me played wow so i had to figure out most of it on my own and it was beautiful. I am sometimes saddened because i know that my skill now won't allow me to ever have an experience like that again in any MMO :(
Inspiring story. I will never be good enough to play in a top guild or lead one (and that's okay). But this video reminds me a bit of myself and how I went from a crappy play to a decent one. I want to learn and be better at this game. I love your videos Max!
i fell in love with wow and played a lot for 3 years, i was getting a lot of shit from my family, sister, friends, and because of the pressure i finally stopped but now i am back 10 years later and i dont regret it at all i wish i played all this time. i really wish i made video recordings of my achievements back in the day as well, we had some crazy milestones back then
I love this, especially your reading of your application. It's nice to see how people grow up in the game, and how someone who may have been young and dumb and a real jerk can become a guide for others in the end :)
Three years late on this comment, but I was on Durotan back then too. I remember Scuba! He was everyone's go-to JC. He'd sit on his turtle in front of the bank and we'd all just bring him our gems. I think he was in Leviathan that later turned into Chimera, not that it matters. I feel like Durotan was a weird little bubble for a long time, and I look back those times and cringe a little, the way I do when I look at my high school yearbook. lol
wow this bring me back, 4.3 was my first time killing the end boss on the highest difficultly. was a hunter who thought he knew more than he actually did and did it on shitty laptop with a track pad. Didn't really get macros or key binds yet so i bound my most used skills on the action bar and the A through " on my keyboard. used them arrows keys to turn and everything
Icc Was such good times. I hit 80 during ulduar and used to pug naxx 2.0 had so much fun. But by icc I had learnt alot was starting to pump and loved the game. My friend from school was one of the best geared resto druids on our server and I was always in awe of his gs
Oh man this is so fucking funny I rewatched it the 3rd time now :P Thanks for the great story and the life advice. Love it! I do not raid or watch world firsts, but I keep coming back for every video.
Literally feel this so much! I have the same story.. 27 and just got back into WoW. Had that stigma where every now and then I would think what of I played again? Then I would think well I need to do adult stuff. Now I'm just loving the game. Awesome Max I love your stuff man!
Greatly appreciate that you took the time and money to invest into a great camera for your streams. Being able to watch in 1440p60fps when half of any other streamer still 1080p sometimes 60fps is really refreshing.
This is so timeless. I play in ONSLAUGHT in Classic WoW, and people still do the same thing with the screenshot when they apply. We probably get that once a month.
What he doesn't tell: Consistent work ethic, will to improve and speak up, leading to a consistent increase in responsibility and respect in the guilds he's in. Some of his journey is accidental - but there's a consistent thread you can find between the lines, than made sure max slowly progressed to the position he holds today.
this is so inspiring :D im always so self conscious about my raidd leading even though im constantly told im one of the best a lot of people have had the liberty of playing with im still so skeptical about it. but this shiwed me dont give up and keep goin thank you
Can relate. Started in Vanilla and was the same way. Played Mage and thought I was the best player in the world because I was dominating meters pressing 1 button. Cleared half of Naxx40 back then.
I remeber when I learnt plate armor skills at 40 on my warr swapping my entire gear out to white plate, because it had more armor! ( that is what the low level zones thought me, I swapped a cloak for 3 armor to 5, therefore armor is king!)
I heavily relate to this. I was a pretty decent healer back in classic, but my attitude was similar to yours (albeit I was 14) and I was in and out of several guilds because of that. I joined a guild that cleared the majority of Naxx in the beginning of BC (And stayed with them for 2+ years) and by the time T6 came around, I was an officer in a top US guild by the age of 16 and my attitude was completely different. I matured so much in just 2 years because of my role in that guild.
It’s really cool to hear this story man. I played Feral Druid in MoP Thecolortwo-Area 52. I literally was exactly the same way and I remember some of your logs on these fights. I only had a few rank 1 parces but Area 52 had a lot of really good ferals Zetlysm, Untamable etc , spending hours on fluiddruid and simcraft getting the best Rune of Reorigination stats. Fragrance always was the goat tho. I followed your progress in Duality (Zuljin is literally the worst server now) and Ruin and hearing you talk about your feral druid days was highly nostalgic
yo max as an audio engineer-phile guy the sm7b does not collect sound from its side its only from the center. I know you had some blue, nice upgrade, you will get better sound using it from the middle only , cheers thanks for the great content
This just popped up on my things you might want to watch list and man you brought back names I haven’t heard in eons. Duality? Damn. Back then I wanted to make a guild and raid team that could complete against Duality espeically as a woman (which isn’t something you commonly see in top end raid teams) but when I lost my first mate officer in the middle of the night to Duality, I internally quit. My excitement dwindled. Eventually I went back to a top 100 team but it took the wind out of my sails for a little bit.
OMG, I played on Durotan during ICC, such good memories of wiping on putricide. Was the guild remix? I think they were the main alliance raiding guild in ICC. I was horde side raiding on my mage in Exile
I have a feeling you're going to get inundated with applications to Limit with all these phrases slipped in there LOL. This is amazing, nice to be reminded the top players are normal people, just like the rest of us. Thanks for this video.
Consistency is key which can be tough considering how each person judges the game differently depending on the expansion, their class, so many factors. I came back in Legion to play seriously and read about Illidan server being the best and I was able to work my way up in guilds to a top 20 guild in 4 months. (Rainbow something) I remember I was with ImFireup who now is in Limit. I love woW but I have a hard time staying dedicated.
I love that this is a snapshot of every person's first resume they "try hard" on for anything in life. Lying about everything down to the mouse is hilarious.
Man, Max recounting how he leveled the wrong way in WotLK reminds me when I was in high school back when vanilla launched and I leveled 1-60 as a Resto Druid
I saw the Council of Blood explanation on Twitch, but my guild could really use it on UA-cam. We’re pretty stuck. Please upload it if you have time, a few guys just can’t understand what’s important so we have too many deaths
Being "successful" in WoW is probably a matter of a couple of factors including commitment, skill, timing and luck. Back when I started Vanilla WoW I was a priest and leveling with a Warrior and we really liked each other. Due to school and stuff I've had to stay away for a few weeks so he jumped ahead. Due to differences in levels I found a different person to level with and ended up in this Guild. Fast forward a bit, that first tank I was leveling with ended up to be the Main Tank for "For the Horde" which was the best german guild at the time. Back in WotLK I was doing quite fine, we ended up 13th on Mimiron Hardmode but I couldn't continue doing this many hours due to school finals. So that didn't happen either. Afterwards then things just got a bit more casual. Following AddOns didn't catch me as much so I mostly just bought, leveled and quit. Finding the right guilds is a very hard thing and actually making connections in WoW has gotten A LOT harder ever since. This AddOn though I've learned that commitment can get you places. I was literally just screwing around at addon start, playing Enhancer but didn't quite like it too much. Ended up rerolling twice, trying to find a guild for my Moonkin that I decided would be my new main but finding guilds is hard if you've got nothing to show for. So my tactic was, do Pugs, do whatever guild will take you and do awesome logs while not failing mechanics. I got into a HC guild, did a few raid weeks, did my 90s logs and finally ended up in a mythic progression guild (currently 6/10) which is pretty much where I see myself being placed correctly. I'm not the greatest gamer anymore and I wanna work for the kills. Getting into better guilds now really ist just a matter of refining my character more and having the WILL to put in the hours on new content releases (which I'm not really willing to). Of course World top10/20 might be a different story but anything apart from that, one CAN get in if they just put up the effort.
my school closed for a week for deer season around here because if like 40% of your school skips they have to make it a half day for the rest and that happened so much during deer season that they just made it a holiday for our school or something like that anyways i was a nerd for wow when cata came out and me and my friend spent that whole week waking up playing sleeping for like 4 hours his sister would bring us food and drinks and we just grinded then repeat for 7 whole days it was the best week of my life
Back in the day you were able to turn on like an animation thingy that showed a graph of the raid dps in recount, that's probably what the real time graph was referring to. Was pretty useless apart from looking cool.
I started wow just after tbc released, around the 7min mark when you show the application I got flash backs of something id totally forgotten. More effort was put into those things than applying for a job IRL. And I remember when i was hunter 'class leader' for my guild at the time reviewing applications. Seeing hunters gemming for armor penetration and asking them to explain why... when they couldn't I would decline them because I knew they were copying top raiders but not understanding they weren't able to cap the stat where it became better then what a hunter normally would 😆😆
Man, I peaked before you even started raiding seriously. I guess that happens when WoW comes out when you're 23. I'm going to be 40 this year and still playing! I haven't raided mythic since Tomb of Sargeras - or raided at all. I feel like at my age my reactions have slowed down to the point where I'm not able to match what I once was, and I'm too competitive to not be CE any more.
I'm over 50 and been playing WoW since Vanilla....it's not easy saying you play PC games at my age 😄, got my first computer to play games when I was in my early teens.
My first toon was a fury warrior, I had somehow joined a guild and when the RL would call pre pots I had no clue what he meant. I'd charge in and open with bladestorm on every single fight lol
Don't take that as an advice but lying on your resume actually works really well for alot of fields out there. The most important thing is coming in with the right attitude and drive.
I am Very sad that I didn't stick around with the Feral/Gaurdian ranks when you stepped in. I was pushing top 100 in the world and I use to speak with Fragrance about getting world number 1 logs. Mainly because I would smash everyone on Sha and the lightning Palace by about 40k dps. I stepped away from the game as a rising youngster was stepping up. Wish I had seen it all now... Sad really But Congratulations on the journey and congratulations on the progress being made these days. Btw if you ever have a subject to look to talk about. I think the rankings in the game for progress come down to 4 things. 1.Understanding how the mechanics and how you can work around them (raids and so on). 2.understanding your class and how work around the mechanics whilst getting the upmost out of your class. 3. A strategy that can work for the fight involving all the members of your raid. Lastly 4. How quickly the entire raid can come to understand the above!!!
GOOCH, I AM THE GM OF LATE NIGHT SORCERY!! WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!!!
We didn't hate you at all! We just missed you!!

What I learned from this video: Having a girlfriend is a raid-wide debuff.
Can confirm, still in 2021
I met my now husband when he joined my guild with his then GF. :D
You must be new to wow.....
try kids
same goes for boyfriend.
I started in 2006 and noobed myway in tbc then hc raided in icc crazy times. Iam 47 year old lady that still get the magic feels xxx

If you get one that plays its a buff it's nice to have gaming also being counted as quality time.
Nah man, my GF is S-tier. She loves watching me raid and always tells me to get back to the raid when I pay her attention and "go kill dudes".
Need a girl that tells you to go back on wow cause she’s tired of your shit 😂

I actully remember old max. I have been following from back when you did Cm boosts :D
I'm over 50 and been playing WoW since Vanilla....it's not easy saying you play PC games at my age 😄, got my first computer to play games when I was in my early teens.
@@danielsepulveda6601 Sorry that's not me
That story was sick nasty!
Woah I was on durotan and used to raid with the guild Chaotic Good or something like that we were always behind Chimera in progression.
I like that we can see the doggos all the time now
Oh cool man. I also grew up playing travel ice hockey!
Miss raiding with you on ZJ with Duality. Good times man
GG on your Nicaragua trip story and your reasoning behind it
Nice, we have identical stories, started at 15, around icc launch, leveled the whole time.
the funny part is the lalafel paladin as a background
I like these videos, they seem as podcasts, nice to listen to while doing stuff. Cheers from Shanghai o/
Huh. The end was pretty touching and relatable
This is like looking back on your Facebook memories and how cringey your posts were 10+ years ago.
Now i know how to apply on limit guild
No memes but when you zoom out. I read it as
THE GOON instead of gooch, seems fitting
Absolute anti-chad going back to wow after gf.
Gf is temporary. WoW is forever.
some say that home is vanilla wow
they were wrong. home is where you bailed on your best buds to climb the raiding ladder.
Nah, that's the most chad move possible. Disregard bitches acquire currency as Plato once wrote.
My first toon was a fury warrior, I had somehow joined a guild and when the RL would call pre pots I had no clue what he meant. I'd charge in and open with bladestorm on every single fight lol
good video, can't wait for limit history vid
This is like the ultimate case of "Fake it till you make it"!
Had to dig up that song you talked about and .......sounds like when I go back to my 80's music lol
Bro I was in that TM guild during Dragonsoul but there was some crazy crazy drama when I joined so I left pretty quickly. Like super crazy drama.
Amazing story dude

Hey, I also have a character named "Catdaddy".
But mine is a Feral druid, and I have that "The Crazy Cat Man"-title, just for added meme-ness.
this is literally anyone lying about their resume to get a job.
Also shows how sometimes someone who isn't qualified just needs a change of environment to be the best player they can be... at least I think so.
Don't take that as an advice but lying on your resume actually works really well for alot of fields out there. The most important thing is coming in with the right attitude and drive.
@@MrBlueSleeves if you can convince me* your resume is real then you can also convince the customer the product is real
Which boss from your history was the most overtuned on release? and why was it Heroic Rag from Firelands?
DIESOFCRINGE this was fantastic though, thanks for the laugh
Based on the thumbnail I've concluded that the answer is a better cam, better clothes, and growing out your facial hair
Sad really
But Congratulations on the journey and congratulations on the progress being made these days.
Maximus Smithblade was my favourite character in Gladiator, dude has such a sweet bhaelt!!
Your content is great. Love the stories you share.
Crazy! I was in TM during dragon soul!
This has to be the funniest fucking WoW related video I have ever seen
Oh man pugging ICC as a prot warrior was a hell of a time. Pugged all the way to the dragon before Lich King :/
