    It has come to my attention that ultra wide doesn’t work how it did back in the day. You can see more screen while using it. However it was worth it for all of the mad ultra wide users in comments, lets go.

    • @simenstroek7599
      @simenstroek7599 3 роки тому +16

      Yeah, FOV is fixed vertically, not horizontally like in original Vanilla and TBC. If you want to minmax this, you can use the Leatrix Plus addon to add some black bars to the bottom and top of your screen (just put UI elements like chat, action bars or whatever in that space) and it actually lowers the vertical resolution even more, giving you even more of an advantage in peripheral vision. You basically get the same center of the screen as that 24" monitor you're talking about, but with even more extra information than an ultrawide screen.
      I mean... If you're into that kinda thing. :D

      Lol. Well you are also a little biased in that you play WoW super competitively.
      Ultrawide makes more sense for folks who play single player/immersive games more regularly and dabble in WoW. Sort of how 4k makes sense if you do most of your media consumption (movies/etc.) on your computer screen too rather than exclusively gaming.
      Do you have any more examples for non-raid lead "good" uis? Your comment about moving abilities further up makes a ton of sense - my ui is also dated (it was largely unchanged from back in WoD).

    Agree with everything but the ultrawide.
    The aya woe's fov/res actually works is you just gain extra on the sides - so the only reason there's a disadvantage is because elements are further away.
    Move your UI elements in to the center in a 16x9 layout and boom: it's exactly the same yet there's just that slight chance for extra information on the side. Or more real estate to put more data bars.
    Try experimenting with different custom resolutions and you'll see the game FoV is bound by the lower dimension, not the higher dimension.

    When you play at 21:9 wow does stretch the image, it's one of the things that is super cool about wow, the bigger your resolution the bigger your field of view is, so It's a plus to have bigger screens and resolutions in wow.
    VS for example in lol where I have to play windowed mode at 1920*1080 and only at like 70% of my screen because I have a 1440p 32 inch monitor and lol just stretches the image and makes everything super big if I play full screen at 1440p.
    I believe they do it because it would be an unfair advantage since I would be able to see 1/3 of the river when I am in middle lane if they scaled properly for 1440p. You can only imagine in 4k.
    And especially for wow you can put a bunch of non combat essential shit on the sides. I have 2 full chat windows on all the time along with details and vertical bars between them and still have a lot of free space.
    Bigger resolutions are super awesome for wow. Once I upgrade my gpu I will consider upscaling to 4k.

    i have no idea why this was recommended to me. I can tell you I dug out a backup 15 inch 1024x768 monitor back during firelands when I was one of the better resto druids on my small pond poor at raiding server, because the smaller screen made it easier for me to see EVERYTHING. I can't imagine ultrawide.

    just switched from a 34 UW up to the CX 48. I'm not about to go back, as the vertical graphic improvement is nice on boss fights (among other improvements), but the game itself really does look better on an UW. And the comment about being able to see the soak off to the right... a 16:9 player simply wouldn't see that at all :). Think of it this way, chats and other completely irrelevant UI elements can be pushed out of the way with zero downside to your 'standard' game field of vision.

    I think UI is a lot like key binds. Everyone is different in some way. I think if you can be effective at your role and used to your UI, then there is no reason to change. If you are a world first raider then you might have to change it for WA reasons. Other than that I don’t see why you would change.

    • @marcdragon2936
      @marcdragon2936 3 роки тому +1

      Or if it's REALLY bad. For example, on my first kill of Normal Sire, I had multiple addons and WA telling me the same things overlapped with each other, and my button sizes were totally disproportionate. It has so much information, all the information it does have is practically unaccessible.

    • @al44tec
      @al44tec 3 роки тому

      @@marcdragon2936 yeah the information has to make sense to the person and has to be readable. Sometimes though, what works for one doesn’t work for another. That’s kind of what is so nice about UIs. You can alter your UI so you can understand it and make it easily understandable to you. Max is kind of looking at these as the 21st man since that is his role so his type of UI has to work for him as well as the one he screen sharing with. So it is typically something that is not going to happen in normal or heroic clears and most of the time not even in mythic. I mean I haven’t used a altered UI in years besides standard elvui and dbm. I do not do mythic and don’t intend on doing that content so I just don’t believe it is actually necessary. Does it make it easier? Absolutely. Is it required? Absolutely not.

    • @marcdragon2936
      @marcdragon2936 3 роки тому

      @@al44tec Agreed, for sure! I like having a UI I setup and work on, personally; it's a lot easier to watch videos of kills when I can see what's going on. But I'm also not trying to push the hardest content in the game - I mean, there's a reason I mentioned Normal Sire; I never did Heroic Sire, though a few friends did invite me to a bit of Mythic near the end of the tier. Regardless, I think the UI has to be readable for the person - if the person can't gather the information they need because the information is so bloated, there's no reason to have it.

    The example you gave about the ultrawide user having to move their head to see something at the edge of the screen...they wouldnt see that thing on screen at all if they had a 16x9 monitor. I totally agree that UI elements need to be moved to the center so you can see them without needing to move your eyes off your character - but the wider your aspect ratio the more game is visible at all.

  • @urgfelstorm
    @urgfelstorm 3 роки тому +10

    The ultrawide head turning only occurs if you sit like 6 inches from your monitor. I play on a 49 inch suw I sit about 2 to 3 feet back with a keyboard tray and you can see the entire fov of the monitor. Depends on setup. The head turning does not occur. Also the suw shows a wider fov. It shows a lot more of the boss room.

  • @MrSkilladin
    @MrSkilladin 3 роки тому +61

    People that have never played wow on an Ultra Wide are under the impression that the game is somehow stretched. The screen isn't stretched, you are actually given several inches of EXTRA vision. The few inches on either side are actually in addition to the normal FoV you get on a regular 16:9 screen. The ultra wide does nothing but improve your overall awareness of the game if you set your UI up to work in your favor. Having your UI elements still mostly centralized with nothing important being off to the sides is essential.

    • @thodorosxanthopoulos
      @thodorosxanthopoulos 3 роки тому +1

      Also wow gives you a bigger field of view as you scale your resolution and it can support 8k. Bigger screens and bigger resolution are an advantage in wow however you see it. I can still focus on the exact part a guy with 24" monitor at 1080 does with my 32" 1440p monitor but I still have a butt load of extra field of view and screen real-estate to drop add-ons and WAs.
      In the ui max saw with the 21:9 aspect ration, if for example he could see a cannister on the far right side of his screen a 16:9 1080p player wouldn't be able to see it standing at the same place and with the camera angled the same.

    • @brezza6892
      @brezza6892 3 роки тому +9

      @@andrevachon1616 Nope that's not how it works sorry. It's additional pixels in the x direction. Therefore when those pixels are populated by the game they are scaled by the game. :) Unless for some reason basic math principles and laws are deliberately ignored by manufacturers in order to make their UW products look terrible and normal widescreen products more appealing. Of course I could also satisfy your conspiracy theory and say that 1920x1080 is the default UW screen resolution.

    • @godhand2018

      People who think ultrawide is bad have usually never tried it. Saying that you gotta turn your head to look at stuff is some 2IQ shit. You can just move all your important UI to the middle of the screen and then you have way more space to put your chat and meters and shit that's not important off to the side. Makes the screen way less cramped and more comfortable to look at. Ultrawide masterrace.

    But at least the chad with the ultrawide was able to see the soak that the plebs 16:9s could not without having to rotate their camera. Obviously in other games where it crops from top&bottom it's bad to have ultrawide monitor because you lose vision instead of gaining it. But in wow it's glorious.

    He's wrong about the ultrawide... If an ultrawide player sees a soak in his peripheral vision, it means that standard doesn't see it at all. At least to my knowledge wow doesn't squash/crop the 16:9 ratio to 21:9, you just get extra view on the sides. Having the UI spread out to the sides is a choice that can be argued about :)

    Disagree on the ultrawide take for wow. Most FPS's simply do not support it like other games do. Can't really compare wow to an fps either so that argument does not make sense. An ultrawide widens the FOV in wow, it does not in most competitive FPS games. And the ones that do support it are suffering from the performance drawback which in turn cripples the competitiveness.

      It just gives you more space to spread non essential information, that's all. He just pointing out that there's no crucial information in WoW you'll get having a wide screen over a regular one, even more in FPS games, there's a reason some of those guys still play at 800x600 (with black bars).

    • @Spiff-ht2sh
      @Spiff-ht2sh 3 роки тому

      @@Naeinsengimnida i have to reply to you since you clearly misunderstand the whole thing.
      Wow on ultra wide gives you more information. You can in the corner of your eye see mobs or stuff happening that on a regular screen isn’t even on the screen. You can have a lot of non vital information out in the peripheries so that you have less useless information taking up prime real estate on your screen that you would want to keep clean to watch what is happening. So there is actually absolutely NO drawbacks from it only improvements.
      When you talk about 800x600 and black bars in an FPS game the reason people do that is because it is more important in CS and other games like that to push as many FPS as possible 300-400 is very good. If you like I can explain why. If you sits on a computer that can’t do that reliable at a higher resolution you will improve gameplay by reducing resolution. In competitive FPS your FOV is usually locked so it wouldn’t even help with a wider screen since that would only stretch the image. Even though reducing resolution to a point like 800x600 sometimes would be a drawback since the pixels wouldn’t show the model coming into screen before it would take up more than 50% of the pixel but that is usually offset by the advantage of high FPS by a huge margin.
      This is not related to the numbers of frames your monitor manage to show. As it has to to with tracking and information calculations in the background. In an FPS you should always try to get as high FPS as possible. I have not noticed same effects in wow but an increase from 60 to around 100 gives a much smoother feeling when you play.

      @@Naeinsengimnida He claims you have to turn your head to see the information. Which is not true. It gives a bigger FOV, the essential information (should be) is still centered like on a smaller screen. If one brings essential info to the outer edges of the screen, then sure. But that's dumb on a smaller monitor as well. It does not give an advantage but there's no disadvantage either. In essence the wider FOV gives more info about the surroundings.
      In FPS's the screen is just stretched and in games where the bigger FOV is supported the performance is crippled, which does give a disadvantage. People turn GFX and even resolution down to gain more response time.
      You can't compare an FPS to a game like WOW...

    • @Naeinsengimnida
      @Naeinsengimnida 3 роки тому

      @@sinki19841984 He exaggerated but yes he is right, your vision goes too far which can makes you miss an information that could be more centered to your vision. My comparison with FPS games still stands, the point is getting an information right in front of you will be more efficient than looking on the sides. The only benefit of wide screen is to clean or "hide" all the non crucial informations on the side. For most players is might not be as impact but for those doing M+25 or Mythic raiding one second looking somewhere else can make you wipe, but of course learning when is the right time to look is also something to take into consideration.

I usually record myself and memorize hard fights and if i am interested i go back and look how much Dps/Hps i did etc. But looking at them during the fight? What does it give? Is it like Fast and Furious, you look at Damage meter and be like "5.2k dps!?!, HECK NO!" *Downshifts and popping all CD's* "HAHA! NOW WE DOING 9k!!"
    I see so many dps players (im a healer) standing in all kinds of shit, but they are very vocal about how much dps they are doing, so deleting it all together i think would help many dps'ers perform better :) or "Hide during combat"
