Funny thing, Senarth was my favorite boss of that raid. It was the only boss that had any sort of new unique mechanic. The biggest issue is they just missed the tuning on it, the health total was crap.
Totally agree with Fatescribe (personal least favorite) and Heart of Fear, Sha--about a month ago I was curious and started watching old raid tier world firsts and I came across HoF. They lusted THREE times in that fight. That is insane.
I think they heavily underestimated how big stinkers were Uldir bosses. At least for regular CE guilds it was absolute hell. Mother was fun when it was played as intended but people found out very fast that you could just skip the first two rooms by stacking healer CDs and running into the last room and the boss was reduced to a training dummy. Fetit devourer, Zul and Ghuun required an absurd amount of class stacking and you needed a different class for every one of those fights. Also Zul was hell for guy taking care of debuff on adds and Fetid and Ghuun was really Keele unfriendly fights. At least one of those fights should have made a list just to hammer in how fking bad the raid was.
As a representative of the civilian AOTC guild/raid leader ... Sylvanas is hands down the worst AOTC End-boss. The problem was both the length combined with the difficulty spike in p3. It was SO HARD to practice p3 clean, because people would get sloppy & lazy in p1 and p2. Getting insta-killed by a chain spawning, getting "hit by a flying couch" in p1 intermission, or falling down a tiny hole in the bridge would eat all your BRs. So you'd spend like 9 minutes only to get to p3 with zero BRs and 4 people dead. Then have a Black Arrow target someone who has never even seen p3 before insta-killing us. Or have someone wiggling around like a chicken right before Raze to and scooping up some pools - straight to wipe. The. Worst. This made me think there should be like a "Chromie Practice Mode" for last bosses in all raids, where you could instantly warp to any phase to practice without getting kill credit. P3 wasn't hard, but us civilians need a little practice to get our black arrow timings down.
As a representative of the civilian AOTC raid leader... I'm so glad I said to my raid "we have no priest in the comp so I'm gonna come on my alt priest, even though I have 0 experience raid healing as priest". Made p3 a breeze.
For heroic I think Kil'jaeden from Tomb of Sargeras was a worse AOTC boss than Sylvanas, plenty of opportunities for one player's mistake to kill the whole raid, and a relatively high damage check.
This made me laugh. I got CE Sylv after 260 pulls. I kind of agree with the Chromie idea. I wish we could've just practiced platform 3/4, since we had dozens of pulls wiping on just that point learning the mechanics. Nights were brutal with back to back 14:35 wipes to the Berserk, surviving 2-4 razes deep.
I will never understand why Blizzard died on the hill of SOTFO being one of the most overtuned and impossible raids ever. They took way too long to nerf it and from what WF raiders were saying, it was like pulling teeth to make Blizzard nerf it. The raid single handedly killed a ton of guilds.
sepulcher was one of the best raids ever released in any mmo. it's a tragedy blizzard whiplashed so hard and the two raids since have been an utter joke. their only mistake was nerfing the raid at all, guilds should have had to clear prenerf halondrus anduin and jailer to clear the raid
@@StrobeFireStudios Contributed but wasn't the reason. When you do raid bosses and it's a wipe fest after wipe and people gquit/uninstall, its probably the boss that was the straw that broke the camels back.
Mythic Vigilant Guardian was actually a fun boss since you can actually hit something the entire time, unlike Normal or Heroic where things are dead before you even see them
The first boss of Black Wing Layer (yes, I know, only Tier 2) was a special POS. It was the first Trash Boss, except most guilds couldn’t really get down the orb controlling thing, and we didn’t have +dmg on our gear and few ppl knew how to max their spec so our dips was struggling not to be overwhelmed by trash. Most people had no idea what was going on. And then in Classic rerelease, everybody is covered in BiS and buffs and they’re standing around doing nothing bc everything’s dead.
Chat was calling it out but General Vezax deserves serious consideration as an all time crap boss (even if it was from the earlier expansions they wanted to leave out). Almost half of the fight you are literally doing nothing. Its not fun to dps. Its not fun to tank. The main healing mechanic is to NOT heal. Bugs can cause you to accidently not activate the hard mode so you get to start all over just standing there.
the same thing you say for magmarax is the same i feel for nzoth as a healer. i pushed ce in nyaloth and that fight was the most fun i have ever had healing in a raid ever. and i know most people hate that fight or think it's mid but you will generally hear a lot of healers say they enjoyed it. and carapace hard agree, first 2 phases ass. 3rd phase fucking sick. super intense.
The first Sunwell Trash had a lot of CC. I remember two banish, several sheep, ... None of the late Raids do require CC. I think there are options for the worst raid. Next would be Black Temple setup. Just make people run a marathon with a single teleport 1/3 of the way. And back in the day there was 99% spell hit. "Brutalus resisted the taunt!" -> wipe. So you have a two tank mechanic with a random spell resists surprise mechanic.
I've only ever /ragequit a raid for the rest of the tier one time, and it was because of Fatescribe. We kept wiping because we had a bunch of casuals that couldn't manage the ring, and even our better half of players struggled with the interaction actually registering/triggering back and forth. The fact that it would wipe the whole raid to have 1-2 players missing or failing a mechanic, and being in smaller raid sizes to where it was almost inevitable, was painful.
I have zero good memories about Kel'Thuzad in Sanctum. We were trying to go back to clear Sylv just once during season 4, we got close to cutting edge, but going through KT was the most miserable experience I can remember in any raid.
I despise the experiment balls, whether or not they actually get pushed in the right directions depends on your own lag. And anything above 100ms (the entire god damn continent of central and south america) means you CANNOT run into them without unpredictable results. In my own experience, if we started avoiding a boss on farm weeks, not even on mythic, on heroic after getting a skip, that makes it bad. Recently Dathea and in SL Fatescribe (Also lag dependant movement-enviroment interaction mechanics). All around terrible.
As a tank, heroic Spine of Deathwing was not fun at all. There were stop damage moments, the balancing mechanic, and the kiting 100+ blood boils for 15 minutes. Maybe as a DPS this was fun?
honestly despite it being a classic boss and arguably shouldn't be there: I'm tempted to say for second boss, Vaelstrasz the Corrupt, because it was the hardest encounter in the raid that you had SECOND, so a lot of people just did not get to see the rest of Blackwing Lair because of Razorgore and Vaelstrasz being back to back. Just feels worth an honorable mention for 'bad second bosses'.
legit sha of fear also belongs just on being equally miserable in the theoretical normal mode of this raid, it still took forever but only because it's a huge tarball of hitpoints and people are constantly having to leave to do crucial but incredibly dull tasks
Can't remember the name of the fight, but you fight two of Queen Azshara's luitenants and if you /emoted at her above in any rude gesture you could be insta killed even through immunities. There existing an actual troll mechanic that someone can exploit is very bad.
I don't even think mythic Sylv would need the removal of P2 to make it amazing, just the removal of the entire chain and dodge intermission between P1 and P2. P2 itself moved along at a good pace in mythic with you doing both sides at once, it just came after about 30 seconds of holding dps for the exact right push time and then an entire minute of simple but extremely punishing dodging with nothing to attack or heal. Normal and heroic P2 were too long though, if they didn't want to have to make the raid split up at those difficulties then they should have just had half the segments.
I think next should be a tier list of the worst mandatory rep/zone grinds for raid prep. The most cringe grinds you had to do before/during raid prog to be optimal.
I just killed M Zskarn and I will say there is some weird stuff that happened like moving the boss across the room too fast gives a hellish overlap. But if you just walk with him it gives no overlap... Weird . but other than that I thought it was a good fight!
"Okay healers, you're going to generate an assload of threat against inactive untauntable bosses!" Although I think KT and Vashj were so broken because Black Temple wasn't ready, so having guilds with nothing but Hyjal would have been dogshit.
Only fight I think was really missed, would have replaced fate scribe with Spine of Deathwing. I know we were giving older raids benefit of the doubt but that was historically hated fight.
Galakras didn't have a hard enrage and it didn't have a difficult soft enrage in phase 1, meaning the tower group could delay their climb until an easy wave of adds spawned in at the bottom. The demo siege vehicles would then attack a tower with no one in it. My guild 1 shot it after a 17 minute kill since this cheese strat involved killing a 3rd cycle of adds. Galakras was special alright.
The only problem with Galakras now is that his encounter sometimes bugs. I was on one of the turrets and I couldn't hit him, even when he was right in front of me. The target just went through his character model.
Honorary mention for pre pandaria bosses… Mannoroth was awful even as a 1-shot instance, and Hyjal trash were fucking AWFUL, especially since you could essentially go from Serpentshrine right into black temple and skip nearly half of all Burning Crusade raids even as progression switched to 25man instead of 40

Gunship battle was fun b/c it was a little respite. I think it's fine to have a loot pinata boss early on in a raid as a reward for beating the first few.
You could switch from normal to heroic in wrath usually on “Loot Ship” in ICC (can’t remember the other raids. That was my first heroic (hardest difficulty at the time) boss, I’d never done the fight on normal, but my new guild (I was on a trail) switched to heroic (I was a bit worried), but it was an easy one shot. Most under tuned boss ever. Then I got a DBW on the next boss 😀 (switched back from heroic 😢). Strange that I remember everything about that raid night, and what became my new guild. Didn’t everyone love the loot ship??
Socrethar the Eternal would be one of my least favorite mid fights. Maybe because the guy we had in the mech wasn't the best, but stupid only one person did it too. (Funny enough you can ask Driney about this, we raided together there) Ambershaper and Guarm are also contenders for meh bosses. I also really hate the Ultraxian trash
I propose a new spin on this kind of video - Most disappointing raid of all time. Make a raid full of bosses that had huge hype or potential and then turned out to be massive disappointing. Fights like Paragons of the Klaxxi, Xavius etc. Also I can't believe nobody ever brings up Varimathras when bringing up bad fights. That fight was never fun to play and was skipped every week, every time.
As someone who doesn’t hate raid trash I think an unsung hero, a true stinker, is the sheer amount of trash and walking distance between iron reaver and the 2 other boss rooms in HFC. You probably slaughtered around 200+ orcs worth of trash, including several stealth mobs that were just terrible to deal with.
After playing through all of classic over these last few years. BOI General Vezax Heroic wait time for the Animus to spawn SUCKS! zZz talk about 'wishing there was a way to speed this up' mechanic
I know there no wotlk in here but gotta shout out the champions fight from togc as worst 2nd to last boss of all time. Trying to teach pve nerds to pvp in a heroic setting was just the worst
i know they didnt have mythic difficulty out but even on heroic one of the top 5 worst experiences ive had in heroic compared to mythic was Dark Animus in ToT.... if you can include ICC gunship battle you HAVE to include Dark Animus...
What's the worst thing in the world? Hmm... Maybe betrayal, or war, or genocide, injustice, child abuse, sickness, maybe death but without it would we be trapped in suffering for eternity. Corruption is bad, but not quite as bad as the other things, and honestly all sorts of terrible things can fall under the umbrella of "injustice"... Dratnos: No it's Stone Legion Generals ofc
Spine sucked because resto shaman was garbage until they added spirit link totem in the dragon soul patch, then made a fight that essentially required 2 spirit links

Hellfire - anduin - sylvanas then repeat 3 times. and you do a nyalotha hole after every boss.
zaqali assault is known as "is this the boss?" within my guild
my guild died on sludgefist; it was an awesome fight, we did end up killing him, and then we never went back in
halondrous bugs were the issue imo, like the room textures disappearing and stuff like that
Im surprised spoils of pandaria didnt get mentioned. Hated that more than galakras
The boss in Firelands where you just hit his foot till he falls over is absolutely deserving to be on this list 😂
Lord Rhyolith, and he doesn't fall over immediately, you have to navigate him over the geysers/volcanos to break his armor.
Maybe the greatest ad read of all time.
(Funny enough you can ask Driney about this, we raided together there)
Ambershaper and Guarm are also contenders for meh bosses.
I also really hate the Ultraxian trash
Hot take: Outside the randomness of phasing causing waves to spawn inconsistently, stone legion general was pretty decent
Majordomo Staghelm was such an underwhelming second to last boss in Firelands. Great raid, stinky boss.
Fronk catchin strays lmao
Yeeeeeeees! Finally it's here!
vanilla through cata would be a separate video imo
As someone who doesn’t hate raid trash I think an unsung hero, a true stinker, is the sheer amount of trash and walking distance between iron reaver and the 2 other boss rooms in HFC. You probably slaughtered around 200+ orcs worth of trash, including several stealth mobs that were just terrible to deal with.
After playing through all of classic over these last few years. BOI General Vezax Heroic wait time for the Animus to spawn SUCKS! zZz talk about 'wishing there was a way to speed this up' mechanic
I know this video is going to be funny af with that intro.
The MaxNos collabs is A+ on my YT
Dratnos: No it's Stone Legion Generals ofc
we need a video for the "hardest raid of all time"
I feel they missed Tectus, I dont know the general feeling towards that boss, but having a 1 shot repeatedly kill people was horrible for our guild
"we won't include BC" *stares in karazahn chess*
Spine sucked because resto shaman was garbage until they added spirit link totem in the dragon soul patch, then made a fight that essentially required 2 spirit links
ICC gunship battle I just used my gunship jetpack to climb all the way up the spire to the next boss and chill there the entire fight. I HATED that boss lol
Whats crazy is my guild killed mythic sennarth in like 22 attempts
That's a literal "holy crap" of a raid
