Check the accessory belt alignment first. If it's truly bending the WP shaft, consider a smaller pulley to reduce the lever arm on the pump. Alternatively, a serpentine belt system... But that'll open a whole other can of worms.
Had the same problems with my inline 6 opel (gm) engine. I was lucky that that engine also came from the factory with a serpentine from factory. Solved all my problems. Well, at least the car problems 😂
Bingo! It literally bends the shaft and tosses the seal. I've never seen this before. I am going to run the belts looser hoping it relieves some stress from the shaft. If this doesn't work here comes another $2500 in a new belt system OR I can't use all 500 of my ponies.
Randy
Is it possible all of the water pumps are manufactured with non heat treated pulley shafts.
Your antifreeze is to thick lol....
Oh hook up the heater core maybe it's hydro locking inside the water pump....OK I know .....pulley diameter will change the flow rate of the water pump, are the pulleys hitting each other?
Great content.
Watching from Janesville Wisconsin.
Randy try an electric water pump. Also it sounds pretty rowdy.
@@keithrevst692was gonna mention the same
Yep its not a true Hot Rod till your walking home in the Dark.
That's the truth for sure
That’s the side effect to project cars its trial and error but the love of cars keeps us going

Power Tour 24, electric water pump will give you peace of mind so the trip is enjoyable. Thanx 4 sharing this video.
36 is perfect for car AC. I have never heard of a problem with bending the water pump shaft. You might need to go to the electric water pump. The only thing I can think of is the torque of the engine spinning belts so fast the pump can't keep up with it putting pressure on the water pump shaft
I was going to suggest the same thing!
I agree.
Don't forget yo upgrade the brakes, try Wilwood or EBC, the duferential will manage all that Power?
What about suspension?
It Will be awesome!
A true beast!
Cool!
Great content guys you two are great content together. Thanks for the videos
Great video. Car sounds great. Look forward to the complete finish of the car
Really enjoy these videos!
Loving the videos Sir ! The vent issue you can resolve with a GM check valve. Should go to manifold vacuum then between the reservoir and blend doors or accessories GM part. B&M makes a vacuum switch for the lockup torque converter ie overdrive. Have one on my ‘91 Sonoma with a 4.8 LS and 700 4 R. Best of luck !
Great video keep it up guys
Good luck buddy's be safe out there see yall soon
Keep up the great work bit by bit hope your feeling better
This was epic!!
Can’t wait to see this finished Randy
Randy you and Mike are amazing - Fix the AC - heater core, water pump, etc etc. Hope you get the Monty on the road ok. Thx for sharing
Always fun when Mike's in the house!
These are the videos I like Randy love my G body's had a 86 Cutlass myself
Should've gave it the beans right outside of town lol. I blame Monkey Wrench Mike haha. You'll get it straightened out and I'll be here watching, great video!
Great video
Glad to see you doing better. Look forward to seeing your videos years after years. lol
At least you got it running, for a little while! 😂. Hopefully it is an easy fix to make it reliable. That AC replacement cost is not bad at all. I spent right at $600 to replace everything on my 87 Mustang, and that was like 18 years ago! Good luck with it Randy and Mike!
Don't they make a switch that you thread into the test port of the trans. It has positive and ground that will lock and un lock the torque converter without the need for a toggle switch.
The Car Sounds great!
Good job Randy and Monkey wrench Mike 😎😎👍👍
Breaking News...Monkey Wrench works on a car and it's not a Mercedes
Hello Randy and Mike aka Monkey Wrench Mike. Finishing up the 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. And taking it out on a test drive.
The weather strip adhesive does harden. For that application the best thing is the window strip caulk that stays tacky also known as dumb-dumb
very good Rebuilds and Monkey Wench Mike 🤣
Sounds like your hooked up to Venturi vacuum instead of manifold vacuum check that and your heater should work .
Did you check the transmission shifter cable? On the steering wheel, it moves. After awhile you have to turn it, while you move the shifter
Looking good randy looks like you've lost a couple pounds and always good to see Mike on your channel and santa to lovin the content realy crazy cool stuff 😊
Good Team.
Need more videos like this one do an older trans Am would love to see that
Hey Randy hope power tour 2024 goes well
Randy Awesome episode. Yet fix the heater Core don't skim attention to details you're living the Dream 😂
Nice ride, definitely needs a colour change though.. Nice storm grey colour or jet black..
Lokar makes a lot of aftermarket parts. They might have right tranny cable.
What does the mounting bracket look like? Is it steel or is it aluminum?
What exhaust system do you have?
Oh MY !!! Hope ya ll get to your house safetly and an fixt he car.
I wonder if the bearing on the water pump is a little bit to tight providing enough resistance to slow the pump down relative to engine speed causing the belt to be thrown.
Little off topic from what you're addressing in the video, but with the engine and transmission upgrade did you have to change the rear end?
Randy on the water pump have u through about a electric water pump and it will give u all the power . Cool car
Aye Randy that's not nasty looked mint to me 😂😂😂 usually that stuff be missing or cracked up 🤣
😂 lmao great video dude 👌 🤣
I'm surprised Smedding didn't send or Atlest recommend a Water Pump that can Handle all the Power
Opps spelled the engine builder wrong in my other message 😢😢😢😢
@carlbernard4197 wasnt sure if I spelled it right 😂
There's always issues with project cars. You win some battles, and you lose some.
Damn, that motor sounds great! You'll get it sorted! Great video!
Randy. I can tell you have lost some weight! Keep up the healthy lifestyle. Hope all goes well with the SS...
Stay golden step Bros
You should give that Monte Carlo a nickname for being troublesome. It’s crazy that the shaft was bent by the water pump. I’m hoping that you can fix this issue soon without any more major expensive repairs.
A good name would be Trophy Wife. They turn out to be very expensive.
Randy two days after surgery “I’m going to start eating better “. Two weeks after surgery “ Let’s go get some Taco Bell.😂
The whole damn dash had to come out in my 06 Taurus, I was taking off bolts under the steering wheel and was like wtf!!
May want some defrost. (rainy day)
My favorite car of all time
This is a very sharp car to look at. I prefer it to the black one he had with that turbo disaster. That purple is gorgeous. That motor is an epic choice. If you put it next to a current Rolls Royce.... I mean this one looks way better...
Need to contact Smedley Performance for recommendations on what kind of a water pump system for it. 😮😮😢
The only way I would ever use monster transmissions again is if was free like yours. They screwed me over. But beautiful car and love the engine!!
I've done one in a mercury Sable 1987 and also in a ford f800 1990😂😂😂😂
Let’s do it for Johnny!
Try doing a blower motor on a 5 series bmw book time to replace 8.5 hours hole dash out not fun😢
I'll pass thank you 😂😂😂
So sorry Randy this keeps happening! Hope it’s an easy fix!
Uberman! After years of wondering what had happen to you, I can see you made it! I'm glad you doing well on this channel. Now one more subscriber.
Welcome back!
Did you replace the AC unit, in this car, with the unit from vintage air, or OEM?
OEM
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds Just asking, because my son needs to replace his entire AC unit, in a 73 Riviera.
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds I plan on sharing this video with him, so he knows what kind of issues he may come across.
Huh a trans brake locks your drivetrain never use it when your rolling down the highway. Don't remember a vehicle your referring to but sounds like it was setup as a on/off switch for overdrive maybe for towing
i think these 2 guys give eachother reach arounds,,lol
If you wanna build a 80's car now you better have hit a jackpot somewhere and buy absolute American parts
I don't believe that bending the water pump has anything to do with the HP of this engine. Please let us know what you find.
Should have kept the Buick!
Time to hit the speed shop and get a water pump that will hold up.
i would try to remove the water pump and put a electric water pump and find a way to bypass the pump all together . some one has to have a way to do that out in the big bad web .
13:04 thats so American fix, that car will be screaming freedom
Electric water pump. You won’t throw a belt.
Could do a electric water pump
Because you used Gorilla Tape on the heater/AC housing, you should name the Monte Carlo "Magilla Gorilla"
👍🏾👊🏽
😂😂😂😂😂 I'M SO HAPPY 😂😂😂😂😂😅
Heater core in a 2000 crown vic police interceptor......sucks. The entire dash comes out
I think it would be a amazing video if after this is all done you go and give the previous owner a ride cause didn’t you say they loved this car and couldn’t drive it anymore due to parlasys??
So what you're saying is you gave it the beans and it went for a shit
Gorilla tape is going to burn away because of the engine heat. Trust me, I know cause I did the same thing I think the best fix is fiberglass
I know you said you don't want to go to an electric water pump, but it might be your best option.
Well maybe you should stay of the beans 🤔
body dose need some stuff
Oh no…well that’s not good but props to MWM for coming with you.
serpentine system time and have no worries again
Just install an electric water pump and you're done.
I would left the car all factory made it worth more to me
Sorry 180hp is not going to work for me lol. This is a Power Tour car not a grandma car.
How may horse power did you lose?
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds tell em we wont our g body’s moving not just barely rolling
Go electric water pump, enough of this.
It’s a small block Chevy, Randy you are great at research, look for your best option and maybe go one serpentine belt pulley system.
Whoever is watching this video, I hope this day will be a great day.
Switch to a electric fans and it should fix your problem
i was going to say electric pump but you dont want that
At what point can a car be considered a 💰 pit

Call Jessica to come get you and Mike
She's at home in the middle of the night sleeping for school the next day and she is over an hour away from Byars.
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds oh wow. My bad. I didn't know that.
😂
I would not use silicone on your Monte carlo if you are going to paint it you will have fish eye all over that stuff go's air borne for a long time.
