With almost 300K miles, I would check the catalytic converter. A clogged converter will cause the heating problem. I’ll bet that if you replace it you would be good unless your pushing it over the limit trashed the engine.
I would keep the battery and put a junk one in it. I mean it needs an engine, a battery is going to be the least of anybody's concerns. I might even sell it right to the junkyard, you might get more money out of it than sending it back to auction. When I attended SUNY Morrisville one of the professors had a hobby of buying old clunkers and just letting them run with a brick on the pedal to see how long before they'd blow up. The best story on one of those was a late 70s Nova with an inline six. They did all kinds of stuff to it trying to kill it, coolant added to the oil, etc. but it was so sloppy that it would just heat up until the pistons would lock up... then once cooled down it would start up again.
If he put no battery in it he would be giving someone the same clue he looks for 😂 I would list it as catastrophic engine damage no one deserves to be surprised by that again. Hopefully someone needs it as a parts car

You probably already know this, but for most hybrid vehicles, if the hybrid system fails, you can’t just drive on the gasoline engine because of the way the systems are integrated. One problem is what you experienced, when you stop the vehicle, the engine shuts off because the system presumes the hybrid battery will take over. Also, because you are likely not the first to overheat the vehicle, it probably has a bad head gasket by this point. This is one you can really do some rebuilding on. Hopefully, it will bring you some good viewer numbers and you will come out okay on the purchase.

You don't have heat, and it is more than likely overheating because of a bad thermostat. That is a super easy part to replace, and controls the flow of the radiators fluid once it has warmed up. They get stuck, and stop the free flow of the radiators fluid through the entire system.
From everything I saw so far, I would lean towards thermostat. I love the Chevrolet Malibu, especially the Hybrid flavor. Too bad this one was abused (as they all seem to be😢)
Damn We don't get gm cars in Pakistan but dang that thing wants to blow up.
Did you bleed the cooling system after you added the water otherwise you'll cause an AIR block in the engine in the water will not circulate and you will burn the engine up by overheating it.
Lol , i love seeing Randy having some fun 🤣😂🔥
That engine rattle noise is because its so hot it starts to diesel, the fuel ignites itself
Who else noticed the Monte Carlo that looks like the one he sent to auction
It was his monte I bought it. And met him before picking up this car.
@@richardbeckett5580 congrats that seemed like it was gonna be a great car
It will eventually need the engine replaced. Got a cam bearing going bad.
@@richardbeckett5580 that sucks
@@richardbeckett5580 you should try to find a supercharged 3800 to put in it.
Crappy Thermostats cannot survive in just water. Still I would test the radiator for a blown head gasket. Don't drive, just AAA tow it. In younger days I drove all the family cars when they were just like this. Not any more, hopefully.
You should do one of these a month Randy that was good content I stayed for the whole video.
Yeah same here. It was fun to watch!
Maybe now’s a perfect time to drive the Chevy to the Levy and hope the Levy ain’t dry, Have to put it out of its misery somehow so it doesn’t torture another poor sod.
I'd like to see another video attempting to fix everything on that car
Highly doubt that, he doesn't REBUILD anything anymore, he just buys them and sends them to another action.
Just drain the pool down below the turn drains no further, emptying a pool can cause THOUSANDS in damages u can use a shop van on your pump to blow the water out of the returns and skimmer
Old joke was, "You have a good battery. Maybe you should push a car under it."
@0:53 sounded like a Mercedes diesel🤣
Randy pulling a WhistlinDiesel 🤣
My dad has had a Carpenter business all my life and I’m almost 40 years old and that is what I grew up doing I absolutely hate it but it gives you a good experience and let me tell you I have seen some crappy work
Now time to paint it hot pink! The hot pink Malibu of doom!
You should have the AC or the defroster on to see if the electric fan kicks in that way you will not destroy the motor by overheating it.
When is the wedding? You’ve had a fiancé for way too long. 🤷🏻♀️
Great video Randy as always. Just wanted to let you know tho the red temp light that came on was for the oil temp not the coolant temp.
May sound awful but that was AWESOME
No heat because you have an AIR block in your cooling system the water did not circulate in the motor therefore it overheats there's two bleeders on that vehicle it can't have any heat because the water's not even circulating to the heater core because of the air block.
or maybe it's not the head gasket, but a faulty thermostat
when I saw HYBRID next to malibu, I was like "is this another typo title" I NEVER knew they came in a hybrid.
it's like an unknown/forgotten vehicle of a decently popular vehicle.
I never knew...
Those end loaders do a LOT of damage, ALL THE TIME!!!! WTF??? COPART!!!!
I did notice the blend door isn't clicking. That is the only GM thing it doesn't have.
Probably a water pump or thermostat.
My Guess is that its the same problem with my 06 Malibu where The Intake Manifold Gasket is blown or the head gasket is blown this case the head gasket is blown they may of put that Head gasket shit in it and Plugged the heater core of the Hoses.
I think you broke your own winning streak on this one! Bad choice. You didn't follow your own rules on this one. Your fiancé was right. Great parts car. Should have used the hauler to take it home when you where on the side of the road. You destroyed the engine by continuing to drive it.
That was the whole point of this video
