I'm glad that luxury houses may be experiencing a slow down of sales. As long as consumers pay, even as prices increased, prices will continue to increase. Maybe the law of economics has finally kicked in -- demand at these prices is low, supply is high, and luxury houses may need to rethink their strategies.

I think all your points are valid. For me personally I think the prices are too high. My first speedy in 1984 I think was 350.00. I have bought a lot of bags over the last 3 years and now with the price increases I would feel like a fool paying those prices. I am going to enjoy what I have and not let myself get sucked into the hype or FOMO.

Wellll to be blunt I don’t like ANY of the new offerings. I think the denim items look unbelievably cheap and frankly I hate the colors and overall look of the PW collection. The clothes are particularly bad, I’m not into the over priced rapper look. I don’t actually think they’re marketing to the average LV male customer, it’s just too fringe. My husband absolutely hates it too and he likes/gets a lot of use out of the more classic LV pieces he does have. The Alma and GO are fine but the prices are insulting especially if the capacity is that small. When the offerings aren’t great and the prices are obnoxious, lose/lose. The energy from the brand is frantic and a bit desperate imho. I love your videos and really appreciate that you give your honest opinion and talk about these things!

I wouldn't spend the money they are commanding for the denim collection. I know loads of people love it and it is cute but soo pricy! I think a lot of this is because of the insane prices. I can afford it but it is just insulting to me. I will always buy LV but I have to be careful to not get caught up in the hype. Wonderful video!!!

Hi Deb, I agree with everything that you said. If I am going to spend that much money I am going to go to Chanel or Dior. The prices on those leather Speedys were beyond ridiculous. After a while you start to think that LV is taking us for a bunch of fools.

I think sales are down everywhere. I was in Harrods on Sunday which is usually packed during weekends. It was almost empty. Very few people buying anything. Mostly tourists taking photos.
With regards to LV, their prices don't reflect the quality. All the "sold out" items are actually available, especially Pharrell's collection. People are very careful what they spend their money on these days.

I’m think this is a reflection on our economy. Sales are down everywhere. People can’t afford.
Our economy is actually fine, it’s the price gouging that’s out of control. When prices were raised in 2020 I had a feeling they would never come down. Retailers found out what we were willing to pay and that was that.
@@ohscheisse2192 - with thousands of job losses across the country shows our economy is not fine. Not sure what your definition of “ fine” is. I agree prices have soared but adding job lay offs in this weakening economy hasn’t helped sales.

There was high inflationary period and now there is a higher cash rate meaning that startups and tech fields are struggling - however the stock market is doing great for the US and if you own assets like real estate or property and have an in demand skill you are probably doing very well. Everyday people would be struggling and luxury items will be lower on the priority list.

Like you I couldn’t afford denim when it came first so I was thrilled to get my hands on this collection . I got denim nano speedy and it the cutest thing ever . I’m obsessed and it’s such a nostalgic feeling too

Some thoughts 1. Price increase without the accompanying quality / material improvements (in a Reddit sub, unaligned monogram patterns are now considered “accepted production variances”) 2. Rapid release cycles
It’s crazy that quality control is not as good as it could be x
I own 2 go 14’s. They are stunning. I think people are not comfortable spending money on them and I get it. But they are special.

IMO. The higher the price point, the more demanding potential customers are. When trendy collections come out, even more so. IMO the price point has exceeded many peoples preference to the brand.
LV have def tried to re direct their focus to higher level leather goods x
The bags have just become too expensive, maybe that's why they don't sell that much.
Personally, I've stopped buying new LV, it's mostly because of the insanely high prices.

I liked LV better, back then (15 - 30 years ago) when they didn't have so many new collections.

I think it has a lot to do with pricing. But also all the fashion houses are releasing too much. Even Chanel is guilty of it too. I think there’s only so much people can consume without it being overboard. I know for myself, I only buy one or two pieces a year, so it makes it hard to decide what to get because something new is coming out the next month and then I wind up buying nothing lol.

My opinion on what the reasons are:
1) Price increases meet general inflation (people are buying less boutique-fresh pieces and rather look pre-loved)
2) There's a new collection every few weeks, it's overwhelming, it's too much and spoils the (earlier) fun of waiting for something special and acquiring it finally when available)
3) LV have kind of an identity crisis. They used to be the starter-luxury-brand but they wanted to be more than they are to the public, increasing prices on everything, minimizing availability of standard pieces like the Neverfull, changing designs of basic good pieces like the Toiletry Pouches and so on. They kinda lost themselves in their search of who they wanna be nowadays and people don't keep up.
4) Putting a non-designer in charge just because he's popular with the youth? Not very wise too... they lost a lot of respect for that move amongst the brand enthusiasts.
➡ In a nutshell, they seem confused and overpriced at the same time. So, I am not surprised...
(The Kusama collection was a financial fail for the company too, by the way... just saying...)

I think denim collection is not well priced, imo they should be cheaper than leather and canvas. I would never pay this price for a fabric bag, especially denim

I agree that these prices today are crazy. LV and other luxury brands have become too greedy - in the past 3 years especially and now they are facing delining sales. I am wondering if it will ever happen that we see a price decrease at LV? Probably not but they might have to rethink their strategy. I would love to see more canvas bags again in the lower - mid price range. For now I am not buying anything from them. I am happy with my collection.

Deb you are absolutely right. They simply got their pricing completely wrong ! Everyone is patiently waiting for all these to end up in the secondary market. And even there, we won’t be rushing to buy those. Last but not least, the overproduction, over release is simply exhausting, even for faahionistas. Great video.

I think like Chanel, LV is pricing themselves out of the range of regular people like me. It’s a shame because I love the bags I have but won’t be buying any more. Buying contemporary bags now, just as much fun and much easier on the wallet.
They really are trying to keep up. But it’s not great for us loyal customers x
I think overall , because of the economy people are not buy buying as much as they use to even a year ago.. same with the prelove market now times are readily available and are not selling out as fast as they did in the past

Too many drops…..who can keep up……every other week they have something new and it’s not really that special…people got wise…..stuff will be there later and there will be another new drop in a month or so. Those paint spot ones are still available as well. These items are too pricey for most of us. They want just as much for denim as leather? I don’t think so.

I’m going to be completely honest, I am hard pressed to spend $5k on an LV bag when I can get a Lady Dior, Loewe, Chanel, or some of the other gorgeous bags and I truly love LV. It’s just gotten out of hand in my opinion so I’m really enjoying what I have and deliberating a lot more seriously about my next item. Such good topic to discuss though!

I think that some of the items in the remix collection are priced high to slow down the resale market. The items are pricy but it’s good to see that people can get it from Louis Vuitton directly if they are willing to pay

I went into LV a few weeks ago wanting to get a monogram speedy to add to my collection. In the states, a monogram speedy bandouliere in the size 30 is $1890.00 plus tax obviously. That’s what I was wanting. But they had a blue damier pop speedy 25 in and when I saw it, I had to have it for some reason. That bag is $2,850 here and even with the smaller size and the difference in price, I knew I needed it! I’m so glad I got it! Now I still have to get my monogram speedy which I may get at my appointment Friday but I’m also considering another pochette Métis but in the empreinte leather or maybe even the speedy 25 in empreinte. We will just have to see. They do have a lot to choose from and I’m considering after these next few purchases, saving and getting the brown monogram all leather speedy. It’s pricey, yes… but I do love it, as well! There are so many new things I want but my wallet says keep wanting. 🤣

I think some one from LV forgot to do their research before this collection was launched. Most LV customers wouldn’t pay those prices.

@@Wildunfiltered Yeah, it's just not worth it. The leather Speedy's are approaching Hermes prices. If I was going to drop $10k on Speedy 25 I'd just spend $5k more on a Birkin.
The denim pieces make me so nostalgic😂 but 2024 me would look stupid wearing them. My style has changed over the years and as much as I love the denim I couldn't make it work today. I guess that is why many people choose not to go for the denim.
Maybe so! The look is very trend driven and maybe targets the younger demographic but the younger generation will not pay these prices x

I'd echo these comments. I think (hopefully) consumers are hitting the pause button with these prices. I could be completely wrong but I do think there's a limit to even what the HNW people are willing to pay when it comes to LV. I do love the checkerboard and I think it's one of my favorites. The green, the blue, they're all great.

I think the Go-14 is their take on Chanel's classic flap, like so many other brands having quilted bags. I am not into any of the denim line.

Hermes do so well as they carefully control the supply-demand equation and because of their reputation for quality.
LV bring out a new collection every 3 weeks and have had a few quality issues. However much they try to overreach with the high end leather, they are known for their canvas.
I’m not really an LV lover though. I have 2 mono canvas bags which I enjoy but the leather bags don’t really speak to me. I don’t like how the handle can bow out at either end on the capucine and the twist is too expensive for what it is. With, perhaps, the exception of the epi alma bb. That’s a classic.
Yep LV have made concerted effort to move away from canvas and more into expensive leather pieces. Problem is even the canvas and the fabric pieces are so expensive now x

LV is and will always be known as a travelling goods company. The coated canvas is their claim to fame. That's what they do best. If they want to offer leather goods, then they have to compete with other leather goods brands. By that end, why not go to other brands that always do leather goods.

I'm not certain bc I don't work for LV or these other fashion houses but I believe THAT is the point of the price increases... price people out because they WANT stock to be available for their long-term clients. NOT the masses. Trust me, they aren't hurting for $$$$ hahah and there will not be any price decreases... we will adjust. I feel like Chanel is much worse than LV anyway...
Yep since Chanel started the insane price increases the other fashion houses have inevitably followed suit. None of them are struggling and are making profits but I wonder if the last collections in isolation have not done as well as they intended x

Ooh that’s a tough one. Both are quintessential Louis Vuitton, both are very special. I think it depends on what you want to use it for and how much you want to carry etc. The capucines bb for example is very practical. If it was a choice between the petite malle and the Capucines mini ? Hmmm I think maybe the Capucines mini as it holds a little more and is a little more useable. But I wouldn’t be without my petite Malle either. Can I say both? 😂

I see the denim bags as trendy bags and with trendy bags I personally would not spend anywhere near that much! The prices are intentional; the demand was so high they had to decrease it by increasing the prices until people couldn't afford them. I'm personally just not a fan of most of the styles coming out- I detest anything giant monogram so anything in that is instantly a no for me lol. I am interested in the new damierlicious and the Tyler the Creator collections coming out but I don't expect to be able to get anything that I want from it so I'm not even bothering lol.

I have the GO-14 in that gorgeous chestnut 🌰 color like Steph’s but only because I found it in pristine preloved condition for $2500 less than retail. I never would have paid full price but for that discount, I couldn’t resist. I’m lucky that I have 5 pieces of the old school denim too… it’s crazy to think what they are asking for cloth these days. LV has great stuff but they are pricing themselves out of the market for what is being delivered. 😢

I returned 3 LV bags last weekend. Super disappointed with the crappy craftsmanship and quality. I’m so disgusted and disappointed. Nothing but vintage if I ever want to support them.

I was in the local LV store and the SA's were not at all enthusiastic about the men's new collection. Sevaral of them and myself were discussing this. They said it was not selling that well. Seems most cusomers are not drawn to the very bright colors. Esepcially most men. Personally, I'm not drawn to any of them myself either.
Well, there is bright and there is bright. They choose the standard paint colors that you use for handicrafts in kindergarten

I keep going back to the denim pieces and feel that it’s just too much money! If the bag I wanted was closer to 2k American dollars I would absolutely buy. 3k is too much for me. I have spent more on a bag but I cannot justify this for the denim.

I just don’t like the style of the Pharrel W. collections. I think I am done with LV in general. Tacky looking bags for 5k is not it for me.

Pharrell has disappointed. Don't care for the Damier Pop collection at all. The leather pieces are nice, but I would never get one in a primary color. The denim collection -- why didn't they create a crossbody bag? That was a miss. I hope he does better in the future.
Yep I think they missed a trick - there is only really the speedy but it’s tiny and not a useful crossbody size.
I bought a little Speedy 20 with pumkins from the yk collection, its very cute...did not really get the fascination about the polkadot. Neither do i judge yk for having racist opinions after growing up so isolated, misunderstood and ignored for her talent until it almost made her commit suicide. Her talent goes beyond time, space and ignorance outdated opinions...i say so as a woman of color.

Thank you for your comment. It’s not about affordability- my SA agreed that the stock levels were aimed at being sold out so I honestly think LV are a little disappointed with items still being available.
