I would phrase as "bigger bags are coming back" medium size perhaps, but not necessarily the huge ones. I agree ppl are finally realising mini bags are not practical.
Big bags may be trending, but I will never go back to bags that weigh 2 pounds empty. Even 1 to 1.5 pound bags get heavy when you fill them up. Unless it’s a work bag, who wants to lug around a heavy huge bag? Small to midsize is the way to go.
I wholeheartedly agree. There's a category of bag I call IG bags: the mini Jodie, the Dior Book Tote, the Fendi Sunshine tote. Medium to large bags always worked for me: once you start wearing reading glasses, the minis just don't fit enough. And finally, I learned that when I retired, my beloved top handle bags, which I carried for 30+ years, no longer fit my lifestyle. I now carry medium, slouchy hobo style or bucket bags.
Agreed. Once you require reading glasses, micros are out. Some minis too. You have to sort it out for each style of bag, but small to medium typically works got me,

Loved your comment on the Chanel classic flap. I almost want one but the price and risk of getting mugged is scaring me off. Before women could feel good in nice clothes and bags, but with aggressive price increases the lifestyle argument soon includes having a boyfriend/ husband or hire security guard in order to use these beautiful things. Its very sad that beauty and style gets dimmed down due to increase stress on society.
My hunch on the Chanel classic flap is Chanel is actively wanting to reduce supply. CCFs had pretty much unlimited supply for the last 50 years (unlike Hermes) and the supply/ demand curve points to a future where the resale market could affect the primary. Remember the famous Hoover promotion that killed Hoover? It wasn’t the tickets to New York that took Hoover under, it was the number of Hoovers being sold second hand (and that was pre internet). Chanel have massively increased prices to protect the primary and secondary market prices and therefore protect the brand. In the end, much like buying shares, if some one has the funds to buy the bag and is buying with a nod to investment, the only question is would you bet on Chanel as a brand?
I think you're right!! I fortunately have a classic flap from 2006 and a Mini Jodie from when they first came out at a much lower price point, and I continue to adore them unabated, but none of the bags you mentioned would be a sound "investment " right now.
My goal for 2024 is to finally buy the petite Malle ☺️ I've been wanting one for years but struggled with its price but this is the year I will get one ❤
Just imagine having this conversation around 20 years ago. Thats approximstely the cradle or the beginning of the boom which end we are currently seeing. How many of those bags from then made it to the top? Its not gonna be a "let thr best bag win" scenario. Once its fizzled out it will.stay fizzled out for quite a while ❤
I also love the mini Kelly. There is one for purchase that is in pristine, never worn condition, on Vestiare Collective, selling for $46,800 Canadian dollars. Is that not insane?!! I hope resellers will have no choice but to reduce the price for Hermes bags some day. There’s no way a mini Kelly should cost as much as a car! Price gouging at its finest 😒
I have a Dior book tote and I love mine but it's very impractical, it's so big and boxy I've even bumped people while carrying it 😅 and mine has strains on the fabric 🥲 but I use it a lot still
Yes! I feel exactly the same. The structure is the biggest plus AND negative for me. I love that they look so structured and sharp, but I feel like it would be so cumbersome carrying around. Gutted!!! Lol!
Fantastic video! Your insights into the luxury handbag market for 2024 are incredibly valuable. It's refreshing to hear an honest perspective on trends and practicality in fashion, especially when it comes to significant investments like high-end bags. Your balanced approach, emphasizing personal style over blindly following trends, really resonates with me. It's always a pleasure to watch your content and get thoughtful, well-reasoned advice. Looking forward to your future videos!🎉
I would die for a burgundy toile de jouy book tote! Especially since seeing Rosamund Pike filling hers with books in a bookshop as a part of the Dior Book Tote Club series. I'd die for the LV OnTheGo in empriente but I do enjoy the casual vibe of the book tote. Probably won't ever own one but I can lust from a distance!
I just got the new style book tote in leather cannage and I absolutely love it! It now has a shoulder strap, 2 slit pockets and 1 zipper pocket. Highly encourage people to check it out since it’s leather it’s more durable, but less stiff, not heavy and can’t date the print like you can the traditional book totes.
I love your videos like this! I loooove hearing all the considerations to weigh when buying these bags. For budget reasons, I have to keep a small collection and I have to focus on cost per wear and functionality. I don’t understand people taking offense when you are just raising issues that could save people from wasting money. Thank you for this content and love your channel!
yes to the mini jodie, just make sure you get it in a color you do not have. i love my green one. due to it being a great pop of color, it has no competition. i have the mono petite malle and mini capucines in black, and there have been times i prefer the mini jodie, due to color. The CF is such a struggle for me, i want a green/blue. There was one that came up but idk if i can trust the seller. so i will wait for a reputable company or a seller i already know. patience, as i dont want to rush and get scammed. i want the dior book tote, however i have yet to decide on the print.
All good thoughts. The incoming trends of 2024 are going to be so different to what we’ve seen for years, so I think we’re going to realise how many of our bags are no longer on trend.
I adore the Nano Vanity to keep on my little bedside table to hold my bedside bits n bobs, but the opening just won't suit. I could just leave it unzipped i suppose... but its an expensive item to just make do 😊
Great suggestions, especially on the novelty shape bags. I think a lot of people get drawn into the “limited edition” aspect and unless you’re a collector like Meredith, those bags are rarely going to serve you well. 💜
I totally agree with you on the price of the Chanel bag! It’s too crazy! I own one, but I got it for less than US$2K. If I hadn’t got it then, I would not buy it now by all means. Plus, it’s not practical as it is very narrow. You can put a long wallet and a phone in - that’s it.
💯 agree. For 2025, I'm planning to purchase a vintage kelly 28 in black box calf sellier with gold hardware. Those are around 10k on the preloved market depending on condition. Also I want a birkin 35 in etain togo leather with gold hardware. B35 can range around 10k or even less. I've seen some 7k depending on condition. Those 2 bags are less than a brand new Chanel classic flap from the boutique.
I just can’t carry a medium or large bag when dressed up in the evening, and my husband and I regularly dine at restaurants that require formal attire. I have a rotation of small bags that compliment different evening outfits but I agree, I could never use these bags during the day or as a regular bag.
I have been debating about a new Dior book tote for weeks. The collection is amazing. And as loyal as I am to Louis Vuitton, now with AK managing the Dior store in Brown Thomas, it’s nice to already have that contact in place. I know the totes are only canvas and probably not worth the money for what the are but they’re just so pretty 💕
I normally use a medium or so bag on the weekends but during the week or dinners, I’m still finding my smaller sized bags like YSL mini Lou or LV pochette métis EW or Chanel BA mini (not the clutch) very very handy and practical. I don’t typically carry much with me and I like to cross body most times. I can’t go smaller than that though 😅.
Don't care much about trends, still looking for the perfect pink bag....hoping for some pink releases from Fendi, LV or Gucci this year. If I found the perfect pink bag...that would be a bag I'd be willing to splurge on.
I have mostly big bags. My favourite styles are hobo bags and they're usually big. I never followed trends. I buy what I like. That's why I don't resale, because I love my bags.
Good day to you Amelia! Was wondering what your thoughts were on the Louis Vuitton Babylone Pm in Mahina perforated leather? I own this bag. It’s on the large size and perhaps it’ll comeback around…☺
Definitely be cautious when buying bags with novelty shapes. That said, my first luxury purchase was the black YSL heart bag over a decade ago, and I still love it! I For the Jodie bag, I've seen some say the zipper is stiff or hard to zip like the LV moon shaped bag, but I've never seen one myself so not sure.
As always your content is informative and enjoyable! I hope you will indulge me with 2 questions. First let me say that I have a lot of pretty debilitating health issues that cause tremendous pain and large or cumbersome bags don’t work for me anymore. I love my mini Jodie. It’s like a butter, light and easy to carry and you need to restrain yourself from overloading it with junk. ☺️
I have seen a metallic pink one that i love!

very good point
Not only the mini Kelly… the pre owned market around the world is flooooooded with luxury designer bags way more than the demand
If preloved market flooded why are prices often higher than new?
