  • I take a look at a similar lofted 5 wood against a 3 rescue to see if there is any distance difference as well as ball flight launch and height etc etc.

    Driver - 9.5
    4 Wood - 16.5
    3i Hybrid - 19
    Perfect set up about 15-20 yards between each of these.

      I really dig this setup. Previously I played D-3W-5W or D-3W-2I but D-4W-3H than 21* driving iron give me so many options off the tee and from the fairway.

    would love a video where you explain the feelings that you get for your swing, because it's such a smooth & comfortably for the back looking golf swing.

    I think each to their own. Personally I have had great success with hybrids (still using the original rocketballz (19 & 23 degrees). They are great out of the rough and I find them easy to shape each way. Miss hits are also less punishing. Spending some time working out the top end of my bag has helped me take an extra couple of shots off my handicap.

    dear Coach .. tQ for your honest video - ".. I don't have wood or hybrid in my bag, I am uncomfortable with them .." - I would sign up with your academy if I were in the UK.. nothing like an honest coach.
    take care stay safe Coach .. from Malaysia.

    Running the numbers with my 96mph driver swing speed. I ended up with a 17 degree 4 wood, and a 20 degree hybrid. I dropped the 5 wood. I can choke the 4 wood and hold it back to 215, and I love the high launch and low spin with the 4 wood. At my swing speed, I can't get a 13 or 15 degree 3 wood up high enough. I'm better off with the higher launch. 20 degree hybrid is max 208 carry, but can easily be hit 195. Plus I was looking like an old man with all those head covers. :)

    I would love to see a test comparing similar type clubs but properly set up for YOU, that would also include your new Taylormade 2 Iron. The clubs and setup I would suggest are 1) the Titleist 818 H1 19 Degrees set to 18 Degrees with Surefit set to Fade with an X shaft, 2) Calloway Rogue Sub Zero 18 Degree Evenflow White X Shaft. For me this would be an extremely enlightening test of that type of club that better players would compare for the Gap below a 3 wood type club.

    This is One part of my bag I am having problems with. Cobra F7 3W love it getting out at 230-240. 5i CF16 around 180-190 love that to. Then I have Apex UT 18 and 21 iron, both great in range but on course due to not coming out the bag often I struggle lose strike and end up no further than my 5i. Gone through various hybrids, so now waiting delivery of my cobra one length 19deg. Hoping to be my magic wand for 200-220!!!!

      Ady Chisholm I would suggest getting fitted for a hybrid if you're struggling with strike..

    Hey Michael. I use a set of M 6 hybrids and carry a Ping G 410 # 5 wood S.F.T. My Ping wood and # 3 hybrid in the set are pretty close in distance. However, the Ping wood is adjustable to that gives you some extra flexibility in the equation. The # 5 wood is the only wood I am carrying at this point. Its working out really well. Those M 6 hybrids are a wonderful match for me. Spider Dubiel

    I have both, it all depends on the course playing. Distance to greens on second shot & green elevation. 5-wood cg allows higher flight with less roll for same distance. Knowledge of course makes the determination . Stay with your Taylormade long iron.

    Another, great video Mike. Have you tested the Cobra F8 hybrid and FW? Just got the F8 hybrid and it is totally changing my opinion on hybrids. I used to hook them pretty badly but I've been trying to swing a bit more upright recently and that's giving me a much straighter more penetrating ball flight.

    Driver - 8*
    2 Wood - 13* (44.5”)
    4 Wood - 17* (43.5”)
    Driving Iron - 17*
    3/4 Hybrid - 20*
    4/5 Hybrid - 24*
    6 Iron - 26.5*
    This was my perfect spacing

      What are your distances on driving iron and 4 wood?

    • @bobbytreez5615
      @bobbytreez5615 3 роки тому

      @@stuboy13 I was getting around 230-240 with the 4 Wood and 225-235 with my driving iron. When I space my clubs I look beyond distance though. The 4 Wood I can shape fades with it from the worst lies. The Driving Iron is dead straight so I mainly use it off the tee or if it’s windy I’ll play a stinger with it.
      The Driving Iron has much lower apex then the 4 Wood. The 4 Wood can surprisingly hold a green fairly good from over 200 out.

      Just an update... I upgraded most of my bag last month. Now the top half looks like...
      Taylormade SIM Driver - 7*
      Cobra SZ Big Tour Fairway - 12*
      Taylormade M5 3 Wood - 15.5*
      Ping G410 Crossover 2 Iron - 17*
      Ping G400 4 Iron - 20.5*
      Cobra F8 9 Wood - 24.5*
      Ping G400 6 Iron - 26.5*

    Found this very interesting. I currently have 3w, 5w then 4i. Thinking of dropping 3 and 5 in favour of 4w and getting a 3h.

    • @davidward5968
      @davidward5968 6 років тому +3

      update, 4 games, no driver, 3w or 5w. Awaiting 4w but using old 3h, anyway, 1 fat tee shot, 2 off fairway in 1st cut so fairways found 87%, ave distance 194 yards. might not even bother with woods again.

    Is there any value to this video? He confesses he’s not comfortable with either club so that is all his results display. Surely he should have had someone who is comfortable with them demo them? Personally I hate looking down at hybrids and 3 woods, but a 5 wood of the right make/model is a go-to club for me. I’ve just discovered the Titleist ‘U’ irons and they are idiot proof - I’m the prime example! Just my tuppence ha’penny 😊

    interesting test ,I have chucked my old rescue out the bag a few weeks ago and gone back to my titliest 910 5 wood ,I just can't hit a hybrid club ,I'm all over the place with it ,or hitting worm burners .Some times I think all these shot saving clubs like chippers and rescue clubs make zero difference apart from selling you more stuff you don't need .For me a rescue is not easy to hit at all ,i'll just practice more with the 4 iron .

    Interesting. Am in market for 2 clubs to fill gap between my 3w and 5i. Currently I carry an old 5w (20 yr old, regular shaft) and a 25 degree rescue (old Adams club with stiff flex shaft). 5w goes higher and longer but the rescue is a very flexible club. What I want is a club that goes roughly 220 yrds off tee (my local club has a 220 yrd par 3) and a second club going just over 200 yards. I like both the M4 5w & rescue and the rogue. Any views of which would be better for an average 12 HC golfer

      Justin Stephenson check out the cobra f7 3-4 hybrid. I just got one and love it. Its adjustable loft.

    • @siddharthnandan190
      @siddharthnandan190 6 років тому

      Justin Stephenson I think that the 3 wood is a more versatile club. It is easier to get a higher ball flight with the 3 wood. Hybrids go higher than irons but not as high as same loft wood. Choke down slightly and move the ball back in the stance and you will get shorter distances as well. It can be a real go to club for finding the fairwayon tight par 4s. It is also easier to shape the ball both ways with 5 wood and get it stay on the green. It has enough loft to allow you to use it as a rescue through the rough. A 5 wood with a shallow face can replace 3 wood and the three iron in the bag therefore you will have one club that will do the job of three clubs. I occasionally take my three wood and the 3 hybrid out of the bag and go with the 5 wood and a 4 iron. In any case I feel more golfers should give 5 wood ago. Just my 2 cents worth.

    The m4’s are so bad! I’m a 5 HDCP and I hate my m4 hybrid! I love my m1 3 wood tho! Looking to maybe try a m3 hybrid or 5 wood. Think its because the m1/m3 faces are neutral

  • @richardgray3
    @richardgray3 5 років тому

    I would think a 7 fairway is a closer comparison to a 3 hybrid. Do you see an advantage of one over the other? My main thought is that hybrid is better out of the rough than a fairway or long iron and so that's why I like to have it in the bag.

    I prefer 5 wood rather then rescue when it comes to the same loft .
    I feel more comfortable with it .
    Distance very similar just 4meters on average which I don’t think is going to affect my game .

    Geez .... yet another golf channel. Thumbs up for no long tedious graphics/cgi intro. Straight in.
    Thumbs down for launch monitors reliance. I don't believe them! They can be tweaked to be flattering. They can even give the wrong shot shape. Why do people just accept them, excusing or glossing over a the "anomalies" (I used to be a software engineer writing software for precision measuring systems. There are so many fudges built in and some of the variables just can not be modelled accurately)
    Nice swing tempo. That's proper testing. I'd have believed you if you'd just reported the results from the eye or real measuring. No need for silly gimmicks which report things that can't be proven or disproven. Unfortunately, we are stuck with these sales gimmicks. Personally nothing would make me purchase equipment based on the results they provide. Moan over 😉
