- Honda 300L | It's been SEVEN WEEKS, and the 790 Adventure R is still in the shop. Whose fault, is it? or at least who am I angry with? The 790 Adventure Ris now made in China... is that a good thing, or a bad thing? - Frank

As great as they sound, a KTM would not be on my list of bikes to purchase because of all the UA-camrs I’ve seen having issues, and hearing about how terrible they are at resolving issues…..
I have to step in here a moment as a technician who has 20 years of experience in electronics. A grounding issue sux, I hate that it happened, but that's not something that anyone could troubleshoot except the guy who can physically touch it. The fact that this guy found it is frankly a miracle. Props to him! But, from the manufacturers perspective, replacing the harness is the best advice they can give. They should cover it if it's under warranty, and I agree the response time is ridiculous, but that's the only legitimate gripe here. Don't bag on things you don't know about because you're aggravated and inconvenienced (which he clearly was), just stick to what you know.
Hello Mike,
While do not disagree with you in theory, there are ancillary harnesses that are in more vulnerable areas of the bike. Recommending checking those is a logical first step.
I appreciate the tech having the experience and knowledge to suggest this as a better first step.
Will the bike need a new wiring harness? Possibly. But that's a very expensive and time consuming first step. That's the techs opinion, and I defer to his experience.
A mouse chewed the diag port on my 390 recently. This generated the exact same error. KTM does shield all but the very ends of their wiring harness very well. It's certainly worth checking before replacing the harness. Again, glad to have a tech with experience!
My rant is 90% on the response time. The bike is at a very large dealer, they move a sifnicant amount of KTM and Husqvarna product, street and dirt.
If they receive this level of support, I feel badly for small dealers!
I do very much appreciate you could moment! - Frank
Bummer about the issues you have had with KTM. Great 2-stroke bikes! The more performance they crank out, the more reliability and maintenance issues. Hope things get sorted out for you soon!
It's motoranting anytime Doug talks on a motorcycle
Ranting is a well developed skill for Euro bike owners, and Doug has a few! - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding, ranting is my specialty.
Also just bought the new CF Moto/ Ktm 790, I’m banking on a better experience from CF Moto , fingers crossed 🤞
My buddy Tim is loving his, I hope both of you have great luck. I seriously expect the CFMoto to be more reliable. - Frank
Double SHOOT Frank, I can't believe you and ADV Matt are having such bad luck with manufactures taking care of their customers. You should be able to depend on the manufacture to take care of their customer base and further increase their trust in the ADV community. I'm glad that you got out to see Patrick today.
0:24 ha! I get a mention! Maybe not exactly what I was thinking, but thanks Frank!!!
That Frank is a name dropper for sure. Expect your social score and UA-cam subs to multiply tenfold!
@@verbalwidget7267 that would be fantastic!😂🤣😂 Last time he did a motorantings video, my sub count did jump…
@@Motoramblings AS it should.🤣
The 2 best things about Honda is reliability are rarely needing work, the other is if you do have a problem you won't wait long for Honda Corp. to get back to the dealer to solve your issue. I know where there's an Adeventure Scooter to be had in Scottsdale AZ if you want to trade up and ride sexy red instead of hideous orange. "Friends don't let friends ride KTM's" - Dave😁
Hello Dave, I am curious about what the response time is from Honda support. I have no idea as none of the seven Hondas I have owned ever broke down! - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding All jokes aside, my new touchscreen display was waiting for me in Scottsdale before I got to town with only 10 days heads up to the dealer. However like yourself owning a Honda is so few problems that I've never considered the tech support turn around time be cause I've only needed it one time across 4 Honda's.😁
I feel your pain! Thus the reason I did all the work on the 701 since husky gave me the middle finger.
Sorry about that mouse. Seems like an environmental hazard, happens in cars too. Out of warranty, I'd have an independent mechanic work on it too. All manufacturer repair insists on straight part replacement, not trouble shooting to find the small causes.
HAHA, I love the play on Patrick's moto-ramblings - moto-ranting... it's a thing now.
Also, that's shameful, waiting so long to get answers. 7 weeks? I'd be replacing that bike!
Side story: I had scheduled an appt 4 weeks out with a Harley dealer to get a service and upgrades done... only for them to pick it up and THEN tell me it would be another week until the tech got to it! Um, why? "Because he has a large job on his lift" ... then give it to someone else! Ugh. They ended up getting it done that week... but I haven't been back since!
How is the KTM 390 Adv holding up ? That bike seems to be in the overall “sweet spot” for value/performance for most riders. If it is near Honda’s build dependability plus overall well managed & honest dealerships, you & Adv Matt made the best call call by getting that adv motorcycle.
I hope your luck changed Old Man.
I got a motorant too, the 2023 NC750X with less than 400 miles on it has a leaking fork seal that is at least three weeks out for repair. My 2020 chonda has over 9000 milles and does not leak. The 2022 CSC RX4 another china bike has over 5500 miles, seen more dirt and abuse than both the other bikes and does not leak. Not sure I will ever by a big name bike ever again. I feel your dealer work pain..........
How long until you part with the 790, well that is, once its working?
Hello Matt, as fast as the Facebook Marketplace gods allow!
To be fair, that was always the plan. I bought it to take on two long trips, and to essentially try out for four months.
I put almost 13K miles on it, but I have no need for that much offroad ability, and certainly not that much power. - Frank
You made the right choice!!!
Ok Patrick, in no particular order I'm heading to your channel next. You sir have been for warned. Ha-ha take care.
@@verbalwidget7267 😂🤣😂 I’m ready Dave!!
None of us are ready!
Hello Patrick! Thanks for the inspiration! - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding 😂🤣😂
Wow...I can't believe, okay...maybe I can believe KTM is treating their customers this way.
Hello, it's certainly and eye opener for me. I am just one guy, but my days of being a customer of KTM proper are over. I still have trust in Bajaj as my 390 has treated me so well! Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
Your mouse problem is frustrating to me, and it’s not even my bikes. I’d be so frustrated!!! And then to have the issues with KTM is just irritating!!!!!
Meanwhile the payments still continue...
Man do I wish I had a warranty! - Frank

@@verbalwidget7267 CLASSIC !!!!!! AS USUAL 🙂
@@pilotdane1 I think Suzuki needs to drop the boring colors and make a flashy orange, or red.
I like the RM yellow personality.
The ktm bikes are garbage in my opinion. To many problems unreliable and like you said it was over a month before ktm even came up with an answer
Next motoranting episode should be about something positive…??
What fun would that be? Haha ! Between the carnivorous zombie mice and the idiots at KTM, Frank needs to vent.
@@verbalwidget7267 oh he definitely does!! I’d have blown up, not enough vents!😂🤣😂
Patrick, folks can tune into the Motoramblings UA-cam channel for positive motovlogs! 😁 - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding 😂🤣😂 The vast majority of the time anyway…. Thanks again my friend!
Patrick! I think a ride video with you and Frank in a version of "Good Cop", "Bad Cop" would be in order>
