First KTM ever with a 4 year warranty. But only if it's from China. Austrian models get 2 years max.

After my 390 buyback, i bought the new vstrom 800 de. Since it is a first year od the new model I thought there would be issues. It is a new engine and well may be paint issues or something. I am now at 8,000 miles in 10 months and it has been flawless. Is it light? No. But it is very dependable and comfortable.
I've put on over 10k since October, 3 sets of tires, 2 airfilters, oil changes every 3k, -phenomenal bike. Super underrated
Those Stroms are bulletproof. I used to own a Strom 1k and I put thousands upon thousands of miles in it, both on and off road. I rode it from ATL to MOAB twice and that's just for starters. Never ever let me down. On the other hand I did ride from ATL to MOAB on a KTM 990 ADV in 2011 and that SOB left me at the side of the interstate 2 days from home with a blocked fuel filter. It was brand new when I left home, I service and mechanic on all my bikes and have done for 40 years. I do love KTM and I do indeed own 2 Husqvarna dirtbikes but I do except with KTM you are rolling the dice a little bit. I do love KTM but they are like a super hot girlfriend. One day you love the chit out of her. The next day she is a total pain in the ass and you wish you had not gotten involved.
The 2024 790 adventure spanks the bejeezus out of both the 2020 790 adventure and the 2022 390 adventure. I absolutely love mine.

Hi Frank…you just nail it. For me my 390 adventure is the bike i can’t trust….since 250km. First KTM i bought…..i got problem that everybody got (did lot of research after my problem). That sad to me. I put my thrust on that bike but i’m just disappointed about reliability. I LOVE THIS BIKE. Next was Aprilia Tuareg or CF moto Ibex 450….for next season…see you at Americade if you made it.✌️
I got the infamous cold start stalling from the second day after I got the 390 adv. The first day, the bike was turned on and warmed up by dealership so no issue. After that my bike would take 6-7 cranks to stay on. It ended up being a buyback.
@@trailrider1980 Did something like that the other morning…now i got 1050km and i have to go to dealer to replace clutch switch. I know i got two years waranty, but hate to go to dealer to argue about know issue.
@@patauger1193 it is not uncommon for once in a while for the 390adv to take more than once to start, mine had the issue everytime I tried to start the bike when cold. I did a lot of research about it and some other ktm's had the issue. But like Frank said, the bike has shown to be reliable for him and many others.

Man, those bigger KTMs seem to be giving people headaches - Adventure Tomek had problems with his 1190. If you can't trust the bike, I wouldn't keep it.

My 790 Adv from 2019 has 30.000 km on the clock. It had problems in the beginning, which were sorted out under warranty. but overall it's been very reliable for me.
Hey Frank! Sorry to hear about the issue with the 790. It’s quite the bike as far as performance. Your 390 has definitely proven itself over time. Saw a KTM 1290 Super Adventure at a dealership the other day and wow! Very impressive but as you said, not sure how reliable it is.

This is why, until I get a bad one, I'll only buy Japanese designed bikes. As tempting as the upcoming CF Moto bikes are, or the Aprilia Tuareg 660, I just don't want the headaches of an unreliable bike.
My 2022 Honda CB500X has been flawless so far and I expect my next bike - either a Transalp, a Tenere 700, or a V-Strom 800DE - to be flawless too. I'm willing to pay the slight premium for Japanese build quality and reliability, no questions asked.
Between you and ADV Matt its nice to see how the 390 has done. I own a 35k mile vstrom and a 2023 390. Only have a fraction of your miles on 390 but good to hear positive reliability stories. Any electrical gremlin with a new bike these days is bad news for home mechanics. Im with you on losing confidence and if per chance my 390 developed continual problems it would be gone. But it has proven so far to be trouble free and once I get the spoked wheels sealed and the "stone" seat replaced , I will do some trips. It actually has less wind buffeting (airflow windshield) at speed than my V-strom.Go figure !
I second your opinion to visit Motoramblings, I just watched Patrick's video on low front tire pressure, and like you Frank, he's always fun to watch. I'm sorry that your 790 did not work out for you, I assume it's still in the shop if you're on the 390. I must say between your channel and ADV Matt I would not hesitate to own a 390, even sat on a few at the dealer wondering what it must be like to be Frank. Reliability was one of the main reasons I went back to the T700, Longhaul Paul has over 200k on his T700 and the motor on different platforms has been out ten years. I cannot believe you never flushed the rear brake fluid ... poor KTM.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a huge fan of KTM. And that's because manufacturers tend to have their own color themes to their bikes, KTM being orange. (Love orange, hate Harleys.)
When researching to buy my first bite, KTM was on the top of my list, and then I heard about their random reliability issues.
Part of me wishes that KTM did a cruiser.

I just bought a new 790 and absolutely love the bike. Excellent balanced bike. Fuel range is excellent and the ergonomics fit me great. And the stock seat is very comfortable. I tried the T7 and it was just so top heavy at low speed and had too small a fuel tank. 800 DE was just too big and heavy. I have heard so many complain about the KTM bikes so i just figured it has a two year warranty, my buddy owns a KTM dealer and if the bike turns out to have a bunch of issues Ill just trade it in and get rid of it. But the balance on those bikes is so good it makes them feel light weight.

I literally feel the same way about my r3. I put 15k miles on it, abused it, no problems at all.
I got a ducati 848sf and problems started poping up under 3k miles. Leaky fork, electrical DTC settings just gone, ext

Yep, there’s a lot to be said about trusting a bike. With my older pre-electronic everything bikes I could maintain and fix most everything on them, and as long as you had fuel, spark, and compression you were able to keep them running enough to get home, even if it was a little rough at times. With the new computer controlled marvels, not so much. My 390 Adv has had electronic issues while out riding on two occasions, in both instances I was able to limp home, but had to take it into the dealer for repair, which turned out to be sensors on both occasions. After 6,400 miles, I am still not completely comfortable with going out in more remote areas solo with the 390, areas that I never gave a thought about going with my previous Japanese bikes. ADV Matt took his 390 out in remote areas solo a lot, and seemed to have a lot of trust in it, hopefully I can get there too.
Part of why I love my 2012 VStrom, simple and reliable!
I ride a 20' DRz400s(in enduro trim) and an 18' Goldwing Tour.... I do my own maintenance and repairs, with that said, I do not like doing them and my riding is either pounding through trails or touring so I put reliability and high maintenance intervals high on my priority list when I make a motorcycle buying decision. I've been considering a mid-size ADV for a while, for me the bike I'd go with is the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE or 1050DE.

FRANK !!!! - "obviously" I am in THE MIGHTY SUZUKI DR 650 "camp" - Although not a "Long haul comfortable highway bike" - You can ride THE MIGHTY SUZUKI DR 650 around the world .... Just saying :-)

790 are made in China and 390 in India. only the biggest models are from Austria now. KTM seems to see the risk and in Poland all KTM's have only 2 yrs of warranty except 1290 and up with 4yrs.... Still my 1290 have some issues :P still it should not burn like gs1300 recently...
The '24 790 adventure and Duke have 4 year warranties World Wide

I don’t have a KTM, I have a Husqvarna Norden. That’s way more reliable, right? (cough, cough) Actually I’ve not had any problems my first year. But I do a lot of silent praying. 🥺
