    Bread + butter + kippers = YUM.
Kippers are great with rice and maybe a bit of hot sauce (or a lot of hot sauce lol). That flavor booster sauce sounds delicious too. I'll definitely have to try this. My husband and I adore kippers.

I went with my grandmother to England at age 13 to meet relatives. A great uncle and aunt made me fresh smoked smoked kippers and eggs for breakfast. OMG I think I ate that at their house every single day and couldnt get enough. Then I discovered the street market bakeries. I was in heaven. Food always takes us back. What a memory!! I have been wondering what to do with my canned kipper. Somehow I doubt it will be like my memories but still good! TFS

I'm always looking for nutritious foods and I have tried kippers once, on your suggestion. I don't remember liking, or disliking, them, so don't know why I haven't bought them again. After watching this video I'm inclined to try them again, with your recipe. I put anchovies on pizza and I like having canned oysters for lunch, but would like to see more recipes for using canned meats and fish.

    Tysm for sharing Mary.
Id encourage anyone who has tried kippers once and decided kippers were not for them to pick up a can of different brand. I love kippers and have been eating them since i was a kid.
In the past few years I've tried a few other brands and there is a HUGE difference in taste between brands. I found that some were just not to my liking at all lol.
Love the idea of adding chimichurri. Looks delicious! 💚

Thanks for this great way to add more flavor and another way to enjoy canned fish. My dad used to love kipper sandwiches with red onions& stinky cheese. A tip: flip the way you use the microplane grater. Citrus on the bottom & upside down grater. That way all the zest is held in the grater channel, and you can better see where you're grating without constantly stopping to check. ❤

You mentioned onion odours affecting other food in the fridge. Put the leftover onion in a ziplock bag before putting in the fridge. The onion stays fresh and no odours affecting anything else. I do the same with lettuce although with lettuce I leave the last 1/2 inch unsealed. Before I did this 2 or 3 days in the fridge crisper the top 2 or 3 layers were limp and unpalitable. Dog didn't mind but pretty expensive dog food. For those worried about plastic polution, it's not that hard to turn the bags inside out, wash and reuse.

A great resource is the Weston A Price foundation. They have a website by the same name. But just a quick list of nutrient dense foods includes all organ meats, all animal fats, and some oils, such as coconut oil and olive oil, fatty meats, eggs, dark meat of poultry, poultry skin, nuts and seeds (but the last two must be properly prepared by soaking in a salty brine and then dried in some sort of way so that they stay raw and the drying temperature is not above 110°F). Love, Mary

Best thing is you can find these cans at the dollar store, two cans can feed a party if you wanted via soup route.

Great question! I don’t like the ones lined with Teflon but years ago I was able to find one made by NutriWare. The liner is stainless steel. Plus, it’s extremely versatile because it has settings for cooking whole grains as well. Mine is old and I’m not sure they make this model anymore. But I have seen on amazon that they sell one with stainless steel liner under the name Aroma NutriWare. It looks different but it might be OK. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️

If you have an instant pot, they make great rice. You can program it to be ready at a certain time and it has a “keep warm” function as well. Plus you can use the instant pot for a ton of other recipes.

I love kippers. I usually eat them with Jasmine rice or cauliflower with some pico de gallo. Tuyo is dried herring. It tastes even better but it's best if you cook them outside. Otherwise your house stinks for days.

Some tins show the drained weight of the fish and some don't. I noticed that the Ocean Prince brand said 2.5 oz. drained. Would you estimate that the drained weight would be the same between it and the King Oscar, which doesn't list it on the tin?
If you use Polar brand Kippers, you need to be aware that they are very much less salty than you typically find in other brands, at least in my experience. I think that it may even be a selling point on their tins.
Next time you use half an onion, try placing the remaining half, cut side down, on a square sheet of cling wrap. Bring the corners up together above the onion, stretching it tight against the cut face of the onion and then spin the onion until the cling wrap is tight against the onion. Fold the twisted part over a few times and put the whole deal inside a ziplock snack bag or sandwich bag, whichever is big enough to get the onion into, and squeeze out all the air that you can and seal the bag. I actually suck the air out of the bag with a straw before I seal it, but I don't know if that's required. Then stick it in the refrigerator. The zip bag keeps the twisted cling wrap from untwisting and the cling wrap keeps oxygen away from the cut face of the onion. The onion will still be fine for a week or more and you won't smell anything in your fridge. Been doing it for years and it doesn't take a minute to do.
I found your comparison between nutrient dense and rich very informative. Thanks for that and all the other content that you shared with us in this video.

If my onion is more then i need I will cut it up and add it to a bag i keep in the freezer. It becomes a breakfast scramble mix of onion, celery, peppers ànd mushrooms. Chopping up the extra from a recipe or any of those that are about to go bzd in the fridge.

When I was kid I imitated every thing my dad did and ate. He ate this out of the can with a bite of a whole onion and a piece of flatbread. Repeat. So did I. As an adult I saw a can of sardines open with those little eyes looking at me. Yikes. That was the end. Must give kippers another chance someday.
