@2:34 THANK YOU! After searching for over 20 minutes trying to find where and how to replace the fuel filter, you are the first person to give me the information I was looking for. Now I can stop searching and be confident that the pump I'm getting is the only thing I need.
Okay... so the tank can handle gasoline and diesel okay, but what about E85? And are the other fuel-handling pieces of the system compatible? I know the management isn't setup for it, but I'll soon be adding an adapter--and properly-sized injectors--that'll allow for it... if the other factory pieces are compatible.
Great tutorial, thank you. What would you say the approximate amount of time it takes to replace? I don't have all the necessary tools and am going to have to take it to a shop. I want to estimate the amount of labor.
We own a 2010'. The fuel tank won't take gas. Keeps spitting it out every time you squeeze the handle it's clicks off. Last yr i bought a 2010 parts car and swapped out the tank and it worked perfect. Last week it started all over again. This internal venting sucks. Garages say you have to buy a New tank $650.00. I also called the Dealer to talk to their tech dept they replied they haven't had a recall on these for fuel tanks or are familiar with a fuel problem. There must be someone out there with the same problem or did you finally called the wrecker and have it scrapped?
You took off 2 electrical connectors. I don't suppose one of them went to the fuel sensor. If so, which one? I'd like to check the ground connection but I don't know where it is.
Great. Thanks. I'm going to assume it's on the plug with 6 wires, not the one with 3 wires. At this point it might not really matter to me. I didn't find a problem when I was under there, but I checked the solid black wire. So I put everything back together. Later, I managed to jiggle the ground, G104, under the passenger front fender ever so slightly with a long screwdriver. Now the car won't start. It'll turn over, just won't fire. G104 handles about 8 grounds including the fuel level sensor and the fuel pump. So, I guess my next trek will be taking the fender off so I can get at the ground.I appreciate the help.
I'm not hearing my fuel pump come on and my car won't start (07 pt cruiser) I sprayed starting fluid directly into the throttle body and car starts perfect and runs about 2 seconds then dies. Obviously it's a fuel problem. A friend of mine that's a mechanic told me that that it could either be the fuel pump itself or the tipm. Is there any way or any tricks anyone knows that I can use to find out to know for sure. I would hate to buy the fuel pump assembly kit and it turns out it's the tipm. Or vice versa I would hate to buy that and it turns out it's just the pump...
Start with: Does the pump have power? Ignition switch, fuse, relay, good grounds, clean electrical connections. If so... Is it enough power to drive the pump? A voltage drop test will determine that. If all of the above test good it is likely the pump.
@@AirtexFuelPumps I ended up replacing the tipm because I was getting no power down to the pump connector. But nothing still the same. This vehicle I'm sure you know has no fuel pump relay. It's built into the tipm
@@bleakhappy This is were diagnostic need to be done. Starting, as you have, at the pump and work back towards the power source. Something is stopping the flow of electricity. Be sure and check all grounds as well. One bad ground will wipe out the entire circuit and more.
Yes turns out one of the wires on the harness from the front of the vehicle to the fuel pump was exposed and was sort of cut. Probably from road debris maybe. Anyways I used butt connectors and electrical tape and pieced it back together. Also the pump did turn out to be bad. I followed your video and replaced it. Thank you very much for that
I have a question before I try all this or to make a purchase. I have a 2005 pt cruiser when I try to turn it on it takes up too 3-5 revs and I kinda step on the peddle just installed a new starter and battery is fine do you think the pump might need to be changed?
I have an 05 the fuel filter is on the tank as well? I notice sometimes when im going fast i will come to a stop at a light and it will sputter a little bit , cam and crank censor have been replaces along with plugs and wires
Did you ever find out what was wrong? I have a 2004 PT Cruiser with 83k that does the same thing. Almost every time I’m sitting at a stop light the rpms drop to about 500 and the engine shakes. It’s been doing this for two months now and no codes have showed up. I’ve cleaned the throttle body, fuel injectors, plugs, wires, checked for vacuum leaks and still cannot pin point it. I even replaced the idle air control valve just because. FYI, the fuel filter is built into the fuel pump assembly.
@@oregonboy84 We own a 2010. Few yrs ago our eng would shake at idle also, had it to a shop and found out one of cooling fans quit working and had to be replaced. Sounds odd but it worked. Ck your fans and relays?
We have a 2005 PT Cruiser and had check engine light on, code was P0462, and the fuel gauge would at first start of key, go up to full then settle on empty with the low fuel light on as well, even with a known full tank. After checking for a short or ground issue and finding none, we dropped the tank and replaced the module with a new one just as you show here. All back together and the symptoms are all the same. no change. reset the code and drove 500 yards and check light is back and gauge still acting the same. Any suggestions?
Depending upon the year there may be a Schrader valve, like a tire valve stem, on the fuel rail. If not you will need to put a fuel line adapter in the line. The adapter has the attachment for the fuel pressure gauge.
I believe it all original been having misfiring issues for while at idle and if you rev it by hand you can feel it in motor everything has been swapped in it to find it plugs wires you name it all except pump, have a 01 in garage I have been swapping parts to find cause off misfire but no codes and nothing wrong with head or head gasket but plugs seem to look like it running lean using more fuel than normal feels like bit of power loss listen for pump and seems OK so only things I can think of is possible the filter in assembly or pressure reg, in assembly but have access spot in floor so don't have to drop tank . So maybe try swapping assemblies and see?
Not sure what else everything has been changed except fuel pump assembly, garage just to much money right now, so that why been trying to figure it out on own ill swap the pumps ; maybe get lucky, bad enough dealer wants 90 dollars just for a key

Thanks been looking everywhere to see where the fuel filter on these where now i know its built in with pump assembly
Good to know the video was helpful. Thanks!
Thanks great video showing the detail

John Hodges well it took him 4 minutes and 15 seconds ...... so somewhere around there give or take a couple hours
thanks simple guy
Would you hear like air being sucked in the pump when u just turn key switch on but not crank it. Does this sound like something to do with the pump

Not being a fuel tank expert I would suspect something with the vent hose and or its components the capacity to allow the tank to breath.
is the pt cruiser has fuel sensor ?

Is there any calibration necessary with the float arm for the sending unit?
Nope
When the fuel pump is outside the new one you can connect it to the harness and raise it while someone is in the car watching the gas level go up
What type of fuel line fitting is this? I've been looking everywhere. Can someone help?

Loose connection or ground
What size are the strap bolts
Is there a difference on a 2003 pt cruiser 2.4 liter?
excuse me but I thought u couldn't replace the fuel filter on a 2005 pt cruiser

Fuel filter inside the fuel pump as a whole assembly come with.

How can I tell if it's the fuel pump or the fuel filter?
Airtex/ASC Performance Pumps how is fuel filter serviceable suspecting filter in 02 pt
Can assembly be taken apart and filter changed ?

where do i find the valve that you removed the pressure from?
Airtex/ASC Performance Pumps. When taking off the pressure line can I connect the gauge to either side ???
Airtex/ASC Performance Pumps ok that sounds good thanks. I appreciate your time
Will this the same for 03 PT GT???
It will be very similar to this procedure.
$700.00 wow I'm doing it myself ...
They washed the tank, but appear to be installing a dirty tank.
The outside of the tank may appear dirty, the inside was thoroughly cleaned.
Made it look too easy
Richard has the ability to make any repair look easy. Keep in mind he has done a few pumps in his lifetime!
