Can y'all do an "Upper Midwest" version where EVERYTHING'S RUSTY AF?
Very Professional Job, Yes cleaning the tank is best I think you used simple green. You are an ASE master Technician.
So far in the past 3 years on my 2012 Malibu I have replaced the TCM, radiator, both cooling fans, starter twice, front struts, rear shock absorbers, front hub bearing, exhaust work, purge valve solenoid, and alternator, hopefully I don’t have to replace the fuel pump.
Thanks 🙏 brother for show us your knowledge. Nice video
Great instructions, Thanks!
That was awesome
Exelent vídeo
good jod thank you for the video
I'm wanting to replace my fuel filter on my 09 malibu do I have to drop the gas tank in order to replace it. I'm sitting at 147k
can you show how to replace a vent valve on these models?
what does the fuel pump harness connect to?
I have an 08 Malibu is the fuel pump located in the same area
How heavy do you think the tank is when empty?
By chance is there a list of tools u used ?
How many KPA it’s coming for Malibu 2012 2.4L ecotec??
I just purchased this type of fuel pump assembly for my 2011 Chevy Malibu Lt, and I noticed that it doesn't comes with a sending unit attached. Does the sending unit for the factory assembly connect's to this model
How much was your fuel pump? And can it take an electric fuel pump?
Yes, you swap the sending unit from your old original to the new. It says it in video too.
That's why I am paying my mechanic to do the job. This work is next to impossible to do on the ground.
Yea its rough on the ground
Access panel
@@jayerwahlgren4735 Unless you cut one out yourself, there isn't one or else this video would've shown how to remove it out of an access panel. Stupid GM engineers and their logical thinking of removing the ENTIRE fuel tank just to change out a little fuel pump, a lot of unnecessary work for no reason. Sold the piece of shit after I replaced the pump....crappy made car all around.
YEP, cut access panel on top...did that on Sploder.... newer Dodges / Chargers and some other vehicles (Honda?) have one OEM./ built in from factory.
Removing the fuel filler tube was a huge pain and not as easy as it looks in the video. I was was on my back and not under a lift though.
What was the problem when removing it? I’m about to do this job on my 2011 malibu. If you’ve already done the job, any info/tips from you would be extremely helpful! I’m going to be following this video to do it and I’m also going to be using small ramps/jacks to lift the car a good bit off the ground so I can work on it. How long did it take you? Also where did you buy the fuel pump? Which site? Mechanic shop tried to charge me 1,376 all said and done for a freaking fuel pump change/replacement. So incredibly absurd. I can find the fuel pump online for around $200. They say that I can buy the pump myself and bring it to them and they’ll replace it for me for $340 (charging only for labor)… I’m thinking I’ll do that. Order the part and bring it to them to put in for $340.
It took me about 4 hours. Everything went easy except the fuel filler tube was in a tight hard to reach spot and also it is on pretty tight even after loosening the clamp. Laying on the ground under the car with the exhaust pipe in the way and the tank partially lowered there is not a lot of room. I didn’t remove the rear wheel but it my have helped. I used a couple of different screwdrivers to try to pry it off but it’s a tight fit. It’s hard to see you will need a flashlight or something. Getting it back on was not nearly as difficult. Bought the pump from RockAuto. It was the cheapest one they had for this vehicle about $120 shipped. They have about 6 to choose from up to about $370 for the most expensive. It’s not my vehicle and I advised not to buy the cheapest part but it’s what she wanted. The part itself seems fine and installed perfectly and didn’t require the fuel sending unit to be swapped from he old pump like some of the others.
Putting it back on was the hardest for me, taking it off was easy after spraying lube on it.
Yeah, really tight space, especially lying on your back and dust falling in your eye. Did you remove the back bolts to the gas tank straps or did you only remove all 4 bolts
Of course you failed to mention always make sure once you've cleaned out the interior of the fuel tank to make absolutely sure you dry up and remove all traces of water and whatever cleaning solution you may have used if any from the tank.
Or if not cruddy don't do it!
Lmao that is a pretty important step…
Dont see how it started, their was no feul in the tank.
Airtex fuel pumps have been the most unreliable pumps we ever used. High failure rate. Even right out of the box.
I have a 2011 chevy Malibu. Check engine light came on yesterday. Fuel trim system lean. P0171 code. Is it safe to drive until I get repaired? Thanks
Thank you
Its fuse box in the trunk fuel pump relay circuit
I just got this
@@buisnessemail9109 its the grey wire going to the botton right corner of the fuse box it is tje control circuit for the fuel pump relay it will be burned cut it at the connector and solder a bigger guage wire fixed mine last weekend working great
What does that do? Same code on our Malibu.
How do you know you need to change it? What are signs?
Intermittent no start only cranking. Also connecting fuel gauge to see if pressure.
Why do new Airtex fuel pumps keep failing after a short time of use?
Always use OEM
Airtex makes better how-to videos than they do pumps. ;)
You have to reuse the sending unit??? That's a mistake I'm not willing to make
Is there a special pump I need to get for my 2011 chevy Malibu ?
Airtex/ASC Performance Pumps what would you like to know
Airtex/ASC Performance Pumps like VIN number ?
If you have the 2.4L eco flexfuel, yes.
@@michaelvazquez8717 i need a new fuel pump & im trying to figure out what’s the difference between electric and mechanical & which do I need for a 2012 malibu LS? What’s a good price?
@@kenterianroberson7386 Have the dealer give you the fuel pump part number from your cars' Vin. They might be able to tell you what kind of pump your car have.
i got a 2009 Malibu is it the same way
Yes, as long as it's the 2.4L ecotech. '08-'12 is the same engine.
@@michaelvazquez8717 can I use electric fuel pump?
Is there anyway to get to the pump without dropping the tank? Really don't have a lift.
You don't need a lift. It only needs to be lifted about 1-1/2 feet. You can do it with Jack stands.
Way to not show how the new pump goes in... clip was edited on removable as well
do this type of fuel pump assembly fits with the 2.4 liter flex fuel engines
thanks
Yes, this is the 2.4L ecotech.
*flex
what are you spraying on the emissions line? im trying to get mine off and its fucking impossible
i dont wanna spray wd40 on it because i dont want to start a fire or mess anything up
What a POOR design...have to move exhaust out of way to drop the tank....If I owned that I would look into cutting an ABOVE access panel... did that on my Explorer... especially being many of even "American" brand fuel pumps are now made in China....IOW they can and do sometimes fail in only 3 years..
The 2012 has an access panel.
I have a 2016 Malibu limited ls. Looks different than this
'08-'12 is the 2.4L ecotech. You have a different engine.
This is how they end up charging you an arm and a leg.
i think i'm gonna let them charge me . i did mine on my truck . but my wifes car this malibu is a diffferent animal. if i cant raie it up like them fuck it. jack stands in july no thanks
airtex oh hell no do all that and have a bad pump Naw me ok been there a bunch
Or can I buy anyone
Nope
I bet this will cost a lot to fix. I'm buying a new car this isn't worth it to fix
It might not be as bad as you think. Flat rate labor is 2.0 hours.
Then you’ll be at least $15k in debt fuck that I’ll pay the repair cost.
@@AirtexFuelPumps what is the total cost range for having this done? Thanks
@@memphis2houston346 Flat rate labor is 2.0 hours. Multiply that times the shops labor rate. The price of the pump is determined by the parts stores. We do not make the retail prices.
Just do it yourself
Yea seems easy...😒
Hello
