You must watch a lot of Packer games
It’s stupid how it’s a textbook tackle and usually perfect on everyone but the QB
Football is a violent sport... unless you're the QB. They might as well just put the red shirt on him and only allow two hand touch. And the argument of people watch the QB and therefor the QB has to be protected is idiotic. It's football, quit protecting QB's. You should know that every now and then you are going to get a 250lb plus player to hit you. Grow some fucking balls NFL and QB's. It's football.
QBs aren't even remotly responsible for the rule, it's owners who are : Rodgers being down means way less shirt sold... and the man signed the most expansive contract in NFL history (he worth every penny), he's an asset not a man anymore.
I know, but QB's aren't exactly not looking for the call. Ever notice Brady and Rodgers go down and immediately look to the ref like, "You gunna call that right?" Obviously not all QB's do it, and I understand the owners want that, but QB's surely aren't complaining and are now wanting the treatment.
The Deaner Kickers and punters aren’t intended on being Tackled because there is very rarely a reason to actually tackle the kicker/punter and then they are treated as a QB assuming they’re passing.
Nah Fr.. head to One side and wrap up ….ultra saaad.
Such a dumb rule, how are you gonna ask people who have been sacking quarterbacks one way their entire lives, to do it a completely different way? You’re asking the rusher to change his momentum and not fall on the quarterback in a split second, that’s next to impossible.

Yeah let's flag the defense for doing their job, BRILLIANT
You have to roll to the side which is dumb qbs make the big bucks they should be able to take the big hits
Darrius Hairston no this is not cuz the qbs wanted this rule the greedy ass NFL realized when a franchise quarterback of a team gets injured people stop watching and going to the games which means the NFL loses money so it’s pretty much the NFL trying protect the soft belly quarterbacks so they can keep their fat stack of cash

@Kyle Watson I could maybe understand that rule if the ball has left the QBs hands already, but if he is still holding how is that any different than tackling a WR or RB? The defense is just trying to make a play on who has the ball...

This is the so called "Rodgers penalty". However, the Rodgers injury was so far different than any of this crap. He was scooped up well after throwing the ball and then spiked on his neck by driving through and intending to cause harm. Freaking tackling a guy shouldnt be a penalty

The quarterbacks are football players too they shouldnt be treated like princesses
Xavier Duster that’s exactly what I was thinking
Xavier Duster Jack Lambert said that they should put all quarterbacks in dresses and now it seems like they finally got that dress
True but would you want an all time great quarterback who brings in mega ratings for the NFL get injured for a season or 2, or never be the same because some non-star DL did his job? I don't agree with it but I see the league's point of view. It's like the NBA not being as rough as the 80's/90's so stars can have longer, more protected careers.
Might as well be touch football
biggy20dood I dont care really, Its football not basketball this game's selling point is its physicality and its big hits. You take that away the only thing thats interesting is td's which ruins the fun for the defense and someone who enjoys a big hit. Its almost impossible to not land on the qb going full speed during a game. Half of these clips are slow downed you have to realize changing how you land mid air going game speed is very difficult, especially if you want to secure the sack
When I was a kid every one of these plays would be called "sacking the quarterback."
Can't even sack a QB anymore without getting a penalty. Gonna turn into two hand touch soon
IceMan 99 it’s sad that I can legitimately see that happening at some point
Which one of these were sacks, that turned into roughing the passer, exactly?
It already seems like flag football
I mean LITERALLY they might as well put the red jersey on the QB, or flags... its ridiculous at this point. They cant touch the qb's head, they cant push him, they cant tackle him low... WTF are they supposed to do?
IceMan 99 It's already happening, a lot of ex NFL players are playing. Look up the AFFL
**Clay Matthews should just start trying to kill them, he's going to get the call against him anyways.**
SAM BRICKELL Facts. The league is soft as titties
He should tackle the ref and make it look like an accident
Fuck green bay
This is a bigger problem than your arbitrary team sentiments.
especially that last one, he landed on his own arms, he didn't put the weight of himself on the QB, what *is* he supposed to do differently to tackle? I remember so many people here is WI being pissed about that one, and rightfully so
I hope they change this rule, especially since William Hayes got injured trying to avoid getting called for it
Yeah honestly they should lowkey fire he idiot who allowed this rule to go through smh 🤦♂️
trash rule. if the players are gonna get penalized for THIS, I say they should earn it. crush those QBs, make them earn every single yard they throw for.
Carr said he will take the hit instead off hays missing his seasson
They will not, they want high scoring, big pass plays. Makes them more money. Business, do anything you can to make money. Lots of points, people want to watch. Capitalism. This is America
@@SkuzzBenson the problem is this is gonna cause them to lose viewers rather than gain
Clay Matthews was clearly being pick on by the league ... some of those plays he had his arms out on the ground to prevent his full weight on the QB and still got flagged
People like to say the hit on Rodgers from Barr started this. Matthews' hits could not have been farther from that. Barr picked Rodgers up, drove him into the ground and literally lifted every extremity into the air to maximize the weight felt on impact. Not to mention it was clearly a late hit.
Absolutely. The man was a beast and the league hated that he could hurt their prime time QBs. DLs train to get a tackle like the first one in the video. Crazy.
This new roughing the passer rule is beyond stupid. William Hayes tore his ACL trying to avoid the penalty
So it would have worked out better for him to land on the qb? Couldn’t have been good for the qb so I see where the rule is coming from
Jason D boy, a bit of weight isn’t gonna kill you, it’s football
Jason D In that case I guess the rules should be extended to rbs, wrs, and tight ends then.
A lot of these were clean tackles last year. I mean, landing on a guy when you tackle him is a penalty?! It only applies to QBs. It's a business move. The NFL doesn't want their precious quarterbacks getting hurt. They don't care if the WRs, RBs, or defenders get hurt. Might as well just put red pinnies on the QBs and make them two hand touch if you don't want anyone ever getting hurt. It's a violent game, injuries happen
@@jasond8477 cus your a pussy
The Matthews-Vikings one was the worst imo
ExopMan yep

It took away Jaire’s first career pick too. 🤬
As much as I hate the Packers, that was one of the few that actually were bad calls after the rule change
I agree the pressure that Mathews applied in that situation was the result of the interception. Quarterbacks should be treated like any other player I don’t see any roughing the runner penalties
New rule: defenders- learn how to defy gravity

I’d say make one at the end of the year too, but at this rate it’ll be an hour long.

Six minute and twenty second demonstration of why the NFL is bleeding fans year over year for 3 straight years.
Yeah. That and the $12.50 beers.
This rule needs to be changed.
Blame Aaron Rodgers
If you touch the QB roughing the passer basically. There’s no point in having an offensive line anymore.
Aaron Rodgers is to blame for getting injured? Nice
Austy it won’t be for a couple of year, look at what happened with the catch rule
More like eliminated
I knew this was coming
Clay Mathews hit against Alex Smith was viscous tho. Clay uses all of his weight on to land on Alex's neck so that Smiths' head hits the ground. Alex actually got a CONCUSSION on that play. Clay needed to wrap him around the waist , the way KHALIL MACK tackles. Nobody in the NFL uses that tackle anymore because it comes with a penalty. Anybody that is defending CLAY doesn't watch the game or is just on the BANDWAGON-OPINION. CLAY is just being a lazy defender, he doesn't worry about the Qb's safety. Lawsuits come from these stupid ROID RAGE players like Clay.
Rob Roux lemme guess....... ur a bears fan
Rob Roux how do you tackle from the front without landing on him. He didn’t try to hurt him. And your just salty that even though the refs were on your side and the Bears hurt Rodgers again, you still lost in week one.
I like the bears but I am 9er fan. Accidents happen and heck I would hate to see this kinda tackle happen to Aaron Rodgers. Clay mathews should be more responsible with where he lands his weight. Most LB's dont even peform that kinda tackle, they go for the waists. Alex Smith was already accepting the Sack, clay just had to put his two hands on the ground (in a push up stance) and allow Smith to fall by himself. But Clay still had on Smith in a BEAR HUG(it is a malicious stance) and then he forces his upper weight to land on Smiths neck (trying to cause a concsussion). I was a SAFETY and these tackles aren't even done anymore. If I feared that the QB was huge or fast I would go for the legs just as I would with a RB. But with Qb's; you just wrap them around their waist.Clay was trying to hurt alex smith. CLAY MATHEWS should be FINED and suspended for this tackle. I love football and played it in harsher conditions than you have( Texas heat of 110degrees). I would never TACKLE a QB like this.
I want a real player to respond to me because I think many people supporting Clays tackle have never Played the sport and have a huge misunderstanding of the SPORT.
I will not support CLAy for his maliciosuness and his hypocriscy.
Rob Roux now why would I put a opposing teams players saftey above the yards that could occur if I’m being to gentle and not doing a real tackle. That was a great form tackle and the nfl is soft

You are wrong. The rule against falling on/driving the QB into the ground has been around for many years. They have simply made it a point of emphasis and are finally calling it.
It’s crazy that it’s called during an actual sack. If the ball isn’t out anything outside of helmet to helmet should be fine.
Clay accomplished the Triple Crown of roughing calls this year. 1. Roughing by tackling the QB as he threw and landing on him. 2. Roughing by tackling the QB as he threw by hitting him at the waist and NOT landing on him (costing the game) and 3. Roughing by sacking the QB and.... landing on them? Before people say its "the Aaron Rodgers Rule" lets just comment that in his situation, the ball was long gone and the rusher picked up the QB and piledrove them shoulder first in the turf which was totally avoidable. This stuff we're seeing now us totally rediculous
The nfl officiating has totally gotten out of hand with the roughing the passer calls.
Breaking news...
Clay Mathews arrested for shaking a quarterbacks hand!!

How are They suppose to sack now?
Two hand touch
GreninjaPlayz56 Gaming they aren’t... every team is going to take the work Blitz and defensive line out of their dictionary... it’s going to be QB, WR, DB, and Safeties... no more running backs

What gets me that they act like its to protect the qbs but really its to protect the money they bring in. the bigger star the qb the less people are allowed to hit him remember cam newton gettin smoked damn near every play a few years ago cuz he was a young black punk to whitey but you bump into manning, brady, Rodgers, breeze you gettin fined 2
@@JohnSmith-fq7hj yeah, it's not a race issue, buddy. Don't be so damn unhappy and insufferable.
@@JohnSmith-fq7hj Its not anywhere close to a race issue bud, grow up. But you're right about it being to protect the money coming in from star QBs, it's a fucking scam and it's making football a shitshow to watch. Absolutely pathetic.
Let's just quickly recap. You can't hit the QB too high, too low, too hard, you must be a force user and levitate to avoid putting your bodyweight on the QB, and you must gently lower the QB to the ground, assess his cognitive function and supply an ice pack and a hug to avoid being penalized.
Why don’t we just take all the pads off and give them flags to play flag football😂
Stephen Madaris they might pull the flag too hard & get a penalty
Exactly what I said.. But you know in time that's gonna be to violent to!!
Stephen Madaris Maybe they should still wear the pads, they might get hurt if their flag gets pulled to hard.
That's exactly what I said!
Game Announcer 0:28
Anchor: Ok lets watch this again and see what got him flagged, ok as you can see #52 Matthews comes in, you can see from the replay his body and arms touch the QB's body, you just can't do that, that's Mathews 3rd roughing the QB this year he has to learn how to sack the QB without touching him, when will these linebacker learn how not to touch other players during their possessions.
2 Years Later
Coach: Matthews the reason I called you into the office today....well their is no easy way to put this....we have to let you go..I am sorry, the last 2 years you have not sacked the QB once and you were flagged 38 times for touching the QB while he had the ball....I am sorry Matthews.
They talk about falling on the qb like it’s some incredibly violent act. The defender is running forward as fast as they can to try and stop the quarter back, of course they’re going to fall on top of them, just like if you’re tackling any one else on the field. What about a big athletic qb like Roethlesberger or Cam? A poor half assed tackles will be easily shaken off and then the play has not been made. If the defender tries to throw their hands down to stop his weight he’ll most likely break a wrist or damage a shoulder. Let’s just play fucking 7on7 at this point jesus
William Hayes tore his ACL because his cleat got caught in the ground trying not to put weight on the QB
They ain't letting us play Steve
Amen brother
It’s literally physics, you can’t avoid it. Goodell is such a bitch, I have the upmost respect for Jerry Jones having the balls to try to get him outta office last summer
The NFL is now run by a bunch of SJW liberal pussies.
So from these videos, we've learned that (1) you can't tackle with your head on someone's shoulder pad, (2) can't fall on the guy, (3) can't drive the guy into the ground, (4) can't put your chin down when you tackle, (5) still can't fall on the guy, (6) can't pull the guy down from his waist, and (7) yep, you guessed it, still can't fall on the guy.
NFL = Nerf Football League
you know what they say,
it's nerf or nothin
And you can't lift the quarterback off their feet. Absolutely ridiculous, how do you tackle someone without lifting their feet off the ground? BTW, the Webster's definition for tackle literally says to drive someone to the ground!
Ice flag league
This is the worst rule I have ever seen in the NFL. I am 56 yo and have been watching the NFL for 50 years and I am thinking of not watching itanymore because of this rule. Just put a flipping dress on the qb and hang flags on his waist. Also there is no way the records for the qb's should count without an asterick beside them. The qb's now dont have 10% of the worries of 10 or 15 years ago. Defence is half the game. I hate to see all the games with high scores. I love to watch a team with a badass defense.
The worst RULE was THE TUCK RULE, this atleast is for the protection of a QB's BODY and CAREER. which is more understandable. BUT I AGREE a bad RULE as well...
@@Aurora_Tom_Renton yeah the tuck rule was despicable just to help #12 in new England
Yo
Then don’t watch..? The rule is the rule and every time you land on the QB they are going to call it. While I don’t agree with it, it’s the rule and it won’t change this season.
@@undisputedfan2349 the rule is the rule huh. Do you follow everything so dumb and blindly?
They care so much about protecting their stars but dont seem to care about the fed up fans who stop watching...
CBJ Jackets on the power play maybe if these QBs weren’t paid 100+ million dollars, there wouldn’t be such a need to protect them. The NFL is only trying to “protect” there money from being wasted an injured player
They dont wanna pay hurt players their guarenteed salary. All it boils down to is penny pinching billionaires changing the entire game so they get more money in the owners pocket.
They want to make the sport more womanly so more women watch and play
So how are you supposed to get a sack? Push him and hope he falls?😂
fr tho how are you supposed to sack someone huge like big ben or cam newton
Grab the quarterback, put your hand on the back of his head, and carefully lay him down. If he spins out of it your shit out of luck

@@rin5851 exactly
A dolphin player literally did that and tore his acl and is now out for the year. They’re getting hurt trying to follow the trash rules
The first one with Matthews that call was one of the worst calls ever that’s just a clean sack
Honestly I think that the second one (earlier in the season though) against the Vikings was worse. He went very far out of his way to avoid putting his body weight on the qb, was to the side, no helmet to helmet contact, and put out his arm to slow himself down. What the hell else do you do?
Don't forget the second one as well. In fact, ALL of the penalties on Matthews are the worst.
It wasn't a bad call it's a bad rule. According to the rule it is a penalty so the refs are supposed to call it, the funny thing is I don't think the Packers thought they'd be penalized under the new rule since it was implemented only because of Rodgers.
Matt DiNero lol where have the Packers gotten any benefit of this rule? The league implemented it, had nothing to do with Rodgers. He never once complained about any hits.
@@Joe-yx4wp you try going full speed into a QB and rolling off of them mid air while having them wrapped up it's physically impossible so until you can prove that you can do it I don't want to hear it

Lmao bro really
The biggest question that'll change all of this!!! WHEN WILL ROGER GOODELL BE FIRED?????????
Roger Goodell doesn't change the rulebook, The Competition Committee does. Goodell does name the members of the Committee, but every member is an NFL owner, front office member, or coach, and every rule they approve of requires 75% vote of the owners. The Competition Committee has said they don't like the implementation of the rule, but they're the ones who made it a point of emphasis in the first place, so it's really on them and the owners. It's unlikely replacing some of the current members with other NFL owners and front office members would have changed much.
@@Falcon4224 But don't you understand he has alot of control over these decisions, and if he disagreed with these ideas he would've done something about it, case and point any commisioner that wasn't Goodell would've made a better choice.
@@agentrocky9390 He has very little control over this decision. He appoints the Committee, but after that they are completely free from the Commissioner's influence. They make the new rules without his approval and they get sent to the owners for their approval.
The owners decide who the Commissioner is anyway. He is their employee, a single entity meant to resolve their squabbles. The fact is that rule changes go above Goodell to his bosses. So if Goodell's bosses said the rule was fine (with at least a 75% vote) and Goodell isn't on the committee that makes these decisions, then how could he be responsible at all?
I get that NFL fans have a hate boner for the guy, but don't lose rational thought because of it.
@@Falcon4224 What you are saying sounds nice until you look at the big picture. HE DOESN'T PUT ENOUGH EFFORT into making these critical changes, which is imperative when your a man well within the power to make that difference. You are overlooking his whole job capabilities!
@@agentrocky9390 Because he doesn't have the power to make the rule changes, the Competition Committee does and the owners vote on them... he's left completely out of the process after the appointments.
Do you want to give him more power by integrating him into the rulemaking process so he can "give enough effort"? His powers are defined, and rule making is not one of them.
Defender: *goes for legs
.
Ref: So you have chosen death?
Clay is gonna have a roughing the passer call every week even on bye week
So how they supposed to tackle now?, this rule is just terrible 🤦🏾♂️.
ikr
So the only strategy left is to run up to the QB, push him and hope he falls down on his own somehow
So we stop what the officials think is roughing the passer let’s just go for the legs so theyy falll down and it doesn’t have to be a big hit either way
Driving your weight into a QB is now illegal as you hit the ground. The first hit clearly that. *Shrugs*

The clay Matthews on Kirk cousins was the worst. He tackled him around his waist.
Nah, either Clay vs Cousins or JPP vs Big Ben
TheMaddenator bro the one against MIN cost them the game! Like that pic would have sealed it dude
I heard the Dak one was pretty silly too
The worst one was Clay Matthews hit on Kirk Cousins. It was so clean even after the rule change. It didn't even look hard but it determined the outcome of the game.
Andrew Luck got hit and came back up to make the tackle, I think that's proof that the hit had no effect on him
These penalties are gonna kill the sport
Hockey is almost here. The only contact sport worth watching.

Hockey is dumb
@@dyanigraham8021 I've been watching more rugby on soccer plus channel
bennyhaha19 the nfl is a lil bitch compared to hockey
Now it's Chris Jones who gets a bad roughing the passer call.
The body weight rule needs to go, period. There are some parts of football you just can’t fix. It’s a CONTACT SPORT. Physicality is a part of the game. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these tackles. What else do you expect to happen from hitting someone from the front?!? This rule causes more problems than it fixes. Now you have defensive players who don’t know what the hell to do. If you so much as TOUCH the quarterback, you might as well count on a flag. This ridiculous rule can potentially (and has) changed the course of games. And now, we have defensive players getting injured in an effort to avoid roughing calls. But the NFL won’t do a damn thing. They don’t give a fuck about defense, as long as the starting quarterbacks are still on the TV giving them ratings. That’s all this is. PS the Rodgers hit was perfectly legal, he said it himself.
Keep crying pussy this rule started because of packer fans
Jake Harris PROFANITY PLEASE For both of you
Let him say his opinion and fuck off I’m not a packers fan but I’m still on his side you if you have an opinion say somewhere else
Jake Harris I'm a packer fan. You figure Roger Goodell gives a fat flying fuck what I think? How does your statement even come anywhere near making sense to you?
Let’s make football football again
This is absolutely disgusting. This stupid rule robbed the Packers of a win. Matthews tackles the QB perfectly fine. But apparently tackling the QB is automatically a “roughing” the passer penalty
I would feel sorry for the Packers but it's all their fault because they cried for better roughing the passer rules
DGRTGaming, it IS possible to tackle without landing on the QB

The rule was made to prevent the defense from picking up the QB and just either yeeting them or dropping them hard. These are just standard tackles
This penalty is weak. Its literally a contact sport. They are grown men in a grown mans sport. If they cant take a little hit they shouldn't play. They knew what would happen when he came to the nfl as a quarterback. They knew they would be hit the most. This new rule is dumb and i dont agree with it. The nfl is starting to look like power puff football. Pretty soon theres gonna be a rule where u can only 2 hand touch. They are taking the manlyness out of the game of football. 💯💯💯
Darron Jones Jr Ray Lewis said the exact same thing you just said. But apparently players who have retired from the game sued the league because of the medical conditions they developed over the years. Which is pretty stupid that you’re going to sue the league for a contact sport that has a LOT of hazards physically and mentally.
Actually it's a physical sprt a contact sport is like a couple accidental slaps while passing physical is full body stuff like hitting
It's weak, and it's also overt special treatment based solely on $$$. The rule is neither subtle nor respectable.
