For people complaining on the fake slide, it WAS absolutely legal at the time of the play and was a glaringly awful loophole in the rules. It was changed as a direct result of that play.

    • @Black_Caucus

It's pretty insane that the touchdown was never called back and there wasn't a penalty enforced at the time, IMO. It was the ACC Championship game, which determines who goes to the Orange Bowl. Those are two insanely big games. Taking advantage of existing rules that protect the QB. If he had gotten tackled on that play, I am sure he and the referees would have had a temper tantrum and thrown a flag.

    • @EclipseBlade1871

@@Black_Caucus It was perfectly legal at the time of the game. He knew the rules and the glaring loophole within the rules that allowed that play to be perfectly legal. If anything, him taking advantage of the loophole on a championship game is what allowed the glaringly awful loophole to be closed.

the fake slide is unfair to the defense... you pursue that and get penalized as a defender
Edit: since I'm still getting replies for this 6 months later, lemme clarify
    1. Yes, I am aware that the rule got changed
    2. Yes, it is unfair to the defense who get penalized for breathing in the direction of a QB. The slide is meant to be a method to protect the health and safety of a quarterback; that's why defenders who pursue a sliding player are penalized. Fake sliding was legal at the time, but was certainly abusive of the rulebook and deserved to be outlawed.

He was down by rule at the 43. The rule was relatively new, so the refs missed it (similar to the Colorado vs. Missouri game when spiking the ball to stop the clock was first permitted and the refs gave an extra down to Colorado). A bulletin was issued after the game for clarification, which is mistaken as a new rule or new interpretation when it was a clarification for the idiot refs.

    • @therealjohneason
      @therealjohneason 9 місяців тому

@GeoJesse That's a common misunderstanding. The NCAA issued a clarification of the rule following the game, as the wording was considered too ambiguous. However, even under the rule at the time, he was considered down as soon as he initiated the slide, which is why the ball was always spotted at that point.
I think it was a stupid rule, to begin with, but it wasn't rolled out correctly, and the refs botched it.

Great collection. Enjoyed it, thanks! To me, the most heads up play of all was the football play at 8:26 where the guy who was back to take the kickoff saw the ball bounce in the end zone, then backwards onto the playing field at about the 1-yard line, and was smart enough to know it was a live ball and that if he got part of his body out of bounds before he touched it then the ball would come out to the 40. Incredible quick-thinking and presence of mind. That said, all of those hockey plays were amazing - I don't know how they can have such great control of the puck, but then I've never played that game.

The man on the top of the key can also rotate to help on the far wing if the man on the far wing gets caught on a screen
He purposefully leaves the far corner open because it would be the farthest and most difficult pass to make

He was a huge part of Arkansas' dramatic turnaround over the past two seasons.

My understanding was that North Texas looked at their schedule and did some scouting before determining that Arkansas would be the team that would give them the best chance for success with that play. Maybe having a walk-on LB played into that choice. They met with the ref's before the game and also reminded the ref's right before the play, so there wouldn't be any accidental whistles.

It completely threw the Colts off. If you remember, Dwight Freeney was nursing a badly sprained ankle with a Hyperbaric Chamber to reduce swelling so he didn't have his shoes or anything on when Sean did that. I'm a Mobilian (so naturally a Saints fan). Everyone on my street was inside their houses with the windows and doors shut, when this happened you could hear the cheers!!! There was an impromptu party after that game right out in the middle of my neighborhood. I did my part that season....I had to have my Saints hat upside-down on my coffee table, and I didn't miss one play all season. I even pissed out the window once while watching just so I wouldn't miss anything. My wife was a big Saints fan, she would always say "The Saints are gonna lose this one". That was her way of making sure the Saints won. Her brother was leaving our house in week 4 that season with his hand on the doorknob when the Saints scored. He wound up buying a doorknob and held it in his hands for every game for the rest of the season! Who Dat!! Being a lifetime Saints fan was usually heart-breaking, but it sure came together that season.
Now the entire NFL is "Woke". I just don't give a damn about any of them anymore. Sad.

That Baez one, I coached a team where a similarly lazy liner that the 1B had to go back on was called an infield fly. That was bull shit, but so was not calling this one. The play is literally the reason for an infield fly. Now, the one where there was just the one runner, that's fair game. The reason they got the double play there was because the runner made a stupid decision to run to second instead of just stepping on first base which was literally two feet from where he was standing.

The idea is to just keep the puck away from the other team, so as soon as the ref drops the puck Vern faceplants right on top of it, curls up in a defensive position while the other team (Calgary I think) attempted to dig the puck out, it finally comes free but by this time they can't get established and the clock runs out securing the victory for Dallas.

the most impressive play in this is the fact that they got belli to speak that much

The basketball play where he threw the inbounds pass off the back of the opposing player should have been whistled dead, and the ball given to the team in white. The foot of the player making the inbound pass was still on the ground OUT OF BOUNDS when he caught the ball. I’ve had this exact play in a college game and made that call, which was the CORRECT call. Refs missed that one.

And it's not a new play, seen it pulled (usually correctly) a few times over the decades.
