- Truck still retains the factor muffler and catalytic converters. I clamped the flapper valve so that it's always open, cut off the factory resonators and installed new 3" pipe with MBRP T5182CF/T5183CF Carbon Fiber 4" OD Dual Staggered Wall Exhaust Tips....Oh, and a surprise cameo by a 1985 squarebody at the end.

I love that quad tip exhaust look. Very nice!
Sounds good, love those exhaust tips !
I ordered the Borla aka GMC Catback exhaust on my 2021 AT4 Carbon Pro and it sound’s beautiful, my tips were black square for carbon pro edition, I’m happy with the dealer installed exhaust!
I’ve got a 21 Denali 6.2. I replaced the muffler with the Borla Atak Crate Muffler, and also replaced the resonators with some 2 inch pipe toward the tips. Got that nice sound to it with barely any drone, even at 80+.
I was considering the Borla Atak, but decided to just go this route instead.
Not seeing many comments on that squarebody, keep it alive, those are in high demand. My 87 is due for a motor, i wish i had the funds to swap in a 6.2 crate motor, my wife's 2020 runs pretty strong
Thanks. It’s probably the most dependable truck I own. Prices have gone crazy on squarebodys. I wish I had bought all I could back when prices were $1,500 or less.
Sounds good looks good
Thanks! Right now, it’s not sounding like anything. Been at the dealer for the past three weeks with a collapsed lifter at 20k miles 🤦♂️
A heads up for anyone owning a GMC/Chev with the 5.7 or 6.2 engines from 2019-2023. Research proves GM is trying to protect themselves from the added costs of replacing a defective oil cooler line. The issue is at the engine block where the inlet and out cooler lines attach to a external adaptor to the engine block. When the outside temperature is cold and you start your engine, the engine oil heats up. At some point the high pressure line will have a catastrophic failure dumping your oil on the the pavement. If not shut down quick enough, your engine will lock up. GM not only has a national back order on the oil cooler line but also has a back order on the engines leaving you without a truck and possible payments. Proof is in the pudding! Research “Global Safety Field Investigations DCS5833. GM says the defect only on certain VIN trucks sold in Canada and Alaska. This is false! Research proves trucks in several states who have diverse cold temperatures are having cooler line failures. Look up GM N212326940 This should be a National Recall for every GM/Chev. truck sold! ATTENTION: If You have purchased these trucks, PURCHASE the Extended Warranty package that covers the engine/transmission. GM is getting away not paying on vehicles after 60,000 miles until the owners file enough complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and NHTSA. I was able to purchase the cooler line from the Chev dealer in Canada but after it was installed, they said the 6.2L engine was locked up would need to be replaced on my extended warranty
Thanks I will keep a eye on this 🙏✌️🇨🇦
That is really low miles on the square body . You found a gem 💎.
It rides like a Cadillac. It was a one owner farm truck, but it came from the coast so unfortunately it has more rust than the typical cab corners/rockers.

If there was only a kit for "resonator delete with similar pipes" it would surely sell well. Personally this is all I'd want and so would others. Damn muffler delete doesn't make but this does. Nice job. Been looking to do this shame I can't do it at home since i'm no exhaust bender/welder 😞
Absolutely. I feel like there’s money to be made there 🤔 I agree, there was no way I wanted to do a full muffler delete. This is exactly the sound that fit my tastes.
Actually, Corsa just came out with a "Tip Kit" for mating to one of their own exhaust kits. But who said it couldn't just be installed as a resonator delete with some nice tips on them. Their the "Twin 4.0 inch Pro-Series Tip Kit for 2019-2023 Silverado & Sierra w/dual bumper exhaust" (SKU: 21211BPC), they come in chrome or blackened. I'll be getting a kit to put on my 19 Sierra Denali later this month to pair up with my current Corsa Sport system I installed last year.
@@TheWolfMatt that’s great to know! Thanks 👍
@@FixIt_Mann No worries bud. I love these trucks, just wish GM let them sound like a truck should, with a less restrictive exhaust.
@@TheWolfMatt I agree 100%
looks good other than that ncsu sticker haha. sounds clean! been debating on going mbrp tips or just going with aftermarket quad tips and maybe doing the muffler delete. again nice video from another central nc guy
Thanks! I was hoping this video would help someone else out. Prior to me doing this, I couldn't find another video where I could hear what it sounded like with the muffler still intact, but resonators deleted. I love the MBRP tips, but it's all personal preference. I just happened to luck up and find one used on eBay, so I only had to buy one at full price lol.
Don't you know? That NCSU emblem adds 50 HP! Go Pack!
I went with a RC cat back with a Flowmaster Super 10 on my '21 Silverado 5.3. Love it.
I bet that sounds good 👍
Wish I would have done this first. I installed borla s-type this weekend. It's too much for my taste. I'm going to a muffler shop to reverse and likely do this route. Luckily I can return Borla.
Borla was going to be the route I went too, but I had a feeling it might be louder than I wanted.
I always called the factory exhaust tips hdmi ports since this body style came out
Same here. I hate them 😂
I cut my main resonator in the front off and straight pipped it and left the two in the back in place and it sound like a cat back
I’ve always thought the factory tips looked like massive phone chargers. Lol
Same. I hate them 😂
Oh Hell Yeah
I prefer his 37 year old brother nice truck
Thanks! I actually put some miles on it today 😎
Are the tips same length or different? I know the size are same, but the tips might have different length. One is longer than the other? Maybe it's the way they were designed? I wanna put 4" outlet on my 22 refresh.
The MBRP tips are close to the same length as stock, but they can be adjusted in and out however you like. The dual outlet tips are angle cut so that one is a little longer than the other to match the curve in the bumper.
Those tips are sexy! Great choice
They are for sale if you are interested 😂 I sold this truck and bought another diesel.
Any drone at cruising speed? Did a muffler delete on my 6.2 and the drone was unbearable. I went an put the stock muffler but i’m just not happy with having a v8 so quiet. Been thinking about this route. Nice content! Subscribed.
Thank you. No drone at all at cruising speeds. In my opinion, this is the perfect balance. I couldn’t find any examples of this on UA-cam when I went this route, so I’m glad it helped.
@@FixIt_Mann thanks for the fast reply! I’ll be going that route, we can always go back! 👍🏻😂
I just got back today my muffler shop. I had initally done a muffler delete and the drone was too much...almost made the truck undriveable. After you cut the resonators off, was the truck still quiet or did you notice drone?
No drone at all. I’m really satisfied with the sound.
@Fix It, Mann interesting. I have the AT4X...I'd assume it would be the same as yours. I'm just nervous to cut off my resonators given the issue I had with cutting out the muffler. Getting that welded back in cost me $180 lol
At 3:30 that was just with wiring the flapper open, aside from the other cosmetic stuff?
Wiring the flapper open and removing the resonators just before the tips and replacing it with a piece of 3 inch pipe.
@@FixIt_Mann gotcha, thank you!
I want to do a nice cat back but the reverberation off my trailer is tough to take.
I’m curious to try something like a flowmaster super 40, but I have a feeling the drone will be obnoxious
Wish you showed a pic of what the inside of the “resonators” looked like.
Surprisingly, there wasn’t much to them. Mostly hollow with a honeycomb tube through them.
Deleted the Main big resonator in the front of the truck and gey it straight piped, keep the two small ones and I promise you that their going to think you got a cat back exhausted add🤣 I wake my neighbors up every morning with a cold start lol
🤔 sounds like a good idea
What do you mean main big resonator in the front?
bro it sounds the exact same 😂😂
Removing that muffler won’t hurt, the little drone you get doesn’t compare to the older model GMCs.
Yo , for the record the drone on the new ones with dfm is atrocious.
I installed the Pulsar LT when the truck had less than 100 miles on it. So no DFM, no drone lol
@@FixIt_Mann Looking to do the same on my 19 Denali tbh. Just waiting on parts before my next upload.
Will this mod work with the 3.0 Diesel?
I’m not sure of the exhaust setup on the diesels. You’d have to check and see if it has the same flapper valve.
Do you hear rattling noise from the exhaust tips?
No, not from the tips. These 6.2 L do have a rattle/squeak when you first start the truck and then it goes away. I have yet to find out what everyone’s solution is.
@@FixIt_Mann thanks for the info. By the way , where did you purchase the exhaust tips and how much ?
@@juckster7 I got lucky and found one slightly used on eBay for about half price. The other I got directly from MBRP and I think it was around $185.
Someone tell me this is legal is California. If it is, then I am getting this setup.
How much did that all cost you?
For both tips, it was around $350. I had a hookup at the muffler shop, so that didn’t cost me anything. Every place is different, but it shouldn’t be too much for them to bend and weld in a piece of 3” pipe to take the place of the resonators. The tips just bolt on, but my guy added a spot weld to prevent someone from stealing them easily.
Any issues after deleting the resonator? Asking for my yukon denali 22 , thinking to delete it🤔
Nope, I’ve put probably 6,000 miles on it since.
Any check engine lights?
Nope. Nothing has been disconnected that would throw a light like sensors, etc.
@@FixIt_Mann thanks man. Tahoe is on the lift now getting the resonators off. Hope it sounds like your truck.
Not much different until you stomp on it. But definitely has a deeper better sound. You can actually hear the exhaust instead of the engine. I need to figure out which direction to turn the flapper valve so it will stay open all the time and I think that will make a difference.
@@justyfication1187 just go opposite of how it normally sets when the truck is off. I used a hose clamp and a piece of 90° angle.
HDMI ports
Why?
On the resonators: to give it a little deeper sound. On the tips: just because I wanted something different and I hate the factory USB-style tips.
@@FixIt_Mann hdmi style 🤣
Sounds stock
Basically stock 🤷♂️😂 Nah, it is a lot quieter on video than in real life. Not a whole lot louder, but it is definitely a deeper rumble. I didn’t want anything obnoxiously loud.
Here comes 1974 ,you will be in line for 6 dollars a gallon for gas. That if you are lucky for it will be every other day
I sure hope things don't get that bad again....not quite ready to switch over to electric 🤣I had diesels before this truck and the worst I saw it get was $4.60/gallon.
Kind of lame tbh, I did a muffler delete and sounds way better, but that just what I think, everyone has their own taste.
