Comparing the $17/72 set of budget watercolor pencils to the Albrecht Durer professional grade watercolor pencils (which go for $100 for just 60 pencils) is like comparing a golf cart to a BMW. They'll both eventually get you where you need to go, just one will be much more pleasurable than the other. Lol... About people saying they have a sensitivity to "seeing messy things", I say to them "Then take your overly sensitive eyes to a different video". 😅 Seriously though, you shouldn't have to worry about keeping your newly purchased supplies all prim, perfect and proper until after you've had a chance to make a video about them for the sake of a few ridiculous people. To heck with them. It's your channel, they're your art supplies, and I think you do amazing work! 😊👍 Thanks for sharing all your new fun materials! 🙏☺️
Ha, well you may be right!! But, I actually only paid $57.17 for my set of 60 Albrecht Durer pencils, a few years ago. Jackson's has had them for Black Friday deals, this year and last year if I remember correctly. So, I hope to help people be patient to get whatever they really want for the right price. It's getting so hard with the price increases lately. I don't regret getting the pencils for $17 - but what happens a lot of times is I share a video and the price seems to double. I want to save people from getting ripped off, as much as I possibly can. I'm going to be playing with them over Christmas and share the pros and cons in a video, at some point. ;D Yes, how do I say that nicely?!? I'm just doing my best here! I have come to realize I can't make everyone happy. If I show the mess, people don't like it. When I share a new set, because I loved it and found a back up set for a really good price...people assume I don't really use them. Lol. ;D I am learning I just have to do my thing. Thank you so much for the comment!! I'm so grateful to have art friends like you to share with! 💗
@TheGypsyChic1 You are right about when creators talk about good products that they got a good deal on, suddenly rising in astonishingly time, the price of that said product. I appreciate you knowing this. I agree you can't please everyone, so just keep doing what you're doing! ❤ Love your channel!
@@DayByeDayChristine Thank you so much for your comment!! I'm sorry for the late response, I didn't see your comment until now. I often want to share my hauls, to share the great deals I find...but it takes time to use them and make art and by then the price has often gone up. So, I'm still trying to find the most helpful way to share.
I agree with you about using leather. It’s so durable and gets more beautiful with use and makes more sense to buy something I want to use forever instead of arts version of fast fashion. I also love the feeling of having something made with care and that I can love.
Thank you! Yes, that is why I love it myself. Mostly I feel it will be used forever and cherished rather than end up in a landfill. I use purses the same way.
Waxed canvas is a great alternative to leather. I have a few pieces from the Superior Labor Company (Japan) - so well made, so beautiful. A good, quality waxed canvas is like leather in a lot of ways, and the more you use it, the better it looks.
Lovely haul and so nice to to have you back!! I wondered where you were. Thanks for sharing all these gorgeous art supplies. Your art work shares are my favorite!! Can’t wait to see your upcoming reviews.
Hi Stephanie, I am so happy you are back! That's too bad about your computer and tablet. I was wondering when you were coming back as I keep remembering your art hauls from Jacksons last year. I have been shopping mostly on Amazon and the Scrawler box in the Uk. I love Rosa Gallery, i am going to purchase the wood set with tubes and some muted ones for my bday in January. I have plenty of Rosa from last year and earlier this year. I also got the Mijello Hybrid Gouache the new one, its so good and its more on the watercolor side and so pigmented. Glad you are back. Happy Holidays. Maria
Thanks so much, Maria! Thank you for understanding!! It's been giving me problems for awhile, since I've had it since 2013. Haha, it hurt so bad to buy a new laptop. Yes, I usually wait all year for the Jackson's Black Friday. But, I had already "collected" most of their best sale items. ;D I hope you have found some fun supplies! Oh, I can't wait to hear more about the Mijello Hybrid Gouache. I have only tried the Paul Rubens, which were fun when I first received them but they had a lot of binder separation so I never reach for them. Thanks for sharing, I love hearing your favorite new supplies!! Happy Holidays 💗
Nice to see you back! Sorry to hear about losing your tech. Derwent is my favourite brand, I just bought the Graphite XL blocks and now I need the others! Sadly good quality art supplies are very expensive in Australia and buying from overseas with shipping and exchange rate isn't usually any cheaper. So they're just on the wish list for now!
Thanks so much!! Thank you, it was so hard to buy new a new laptop...but the new laptop seems to make editing easier. Maybe I won't dread it as much now?! Lol. I have heard from several viewers prices in Australia are crazy. I'm not finding as good of prices at many shops anymore either. I think it's great you are waiting to get the XL Blocks! Just a tip...The price on Derwent seems to go down a bit after the "hype period" is over. ;D I will be sharing some more tips in my review...but it won't be until after the holidays are over most likely. 💗
I Adore my tiny holbein palette and already filled it with my favorite colors from Holbein 🥰 I really love the tiny blue watercolor sketchbook, I got mine from AliExpress. The paper is nice I've used both sides and never had a problem with them and they do not buckle 👏🏼
I'm so happy to know you have it, too. It's so adorable! I can't wait to play with this palette, and then switch out my favorite colors! That is great to know. I've never shopped at AliExpress so I don't check what they have. Thanks so much for sharing, I was afraid to link it until I tried it...but I trust you, so I will add it now. Thanks so much! 💗
I love Rosa Gallery watercolors❤I have almost all colors❤I recommend you to try new relised colors from Rosa in 2023. Especially Cobalt green medium and Pyrrol red
Thank you for sharing! I'm so happy for you! Thanks for the tip. I plan to try them when they are available at Jackson's. I'm enjoying the palettes I have from them very much for now. 💗
Always a pleasure seeing your videos! Glad you’re back. I’m sorry about your tablet and laptop! 😢 my macbook is struggling too and I’m trying to make it last as long as possible lol Amazing video! Thank you x
Thanks, my friend! Mine was from 2013, and I struggled with it at least a year on and off. I did the same!! Lol I hope you can make it a bit longer! Thank you so much!! 💗
Wow! Great haul! I’m a Schmincke lover too, but I haven’t ever had the budget to touch their gouache. But on the subject of gouache: I have some jelly gouache…from Magicfly, that is getting a bit dry after a few years, but I was able to rehab with water and until recently it’s been moist enough to use it as long as I spray in enough water and stir and stir. Anyway, one thing I learned from having a stash of inexpensive supplies that I like and that are FUN to use is that you can be really free in your painting…and if it comes out great, then great. If it comes out not so great, who cares? I still like to paint more seriously with the “good stuff” but it’s good to let go once in a while and not have to plan and think so much and just have fun!
Thanks so much, Nancy! I love Schmincke gouache, but I only purchase a few every time they are on great sale. I think they are only for people who know they love gouache, so stick with whatever you already have. If you find Holbein gouache for a great price, I would recommend that first actually. I've found the 12 set for $23. YES! That is why I still enjoy products from Arrtx, etc. You can have fun with inexpensive supplies, build your skills and still create beautiful artwork. I personally like know the difference, since I make reviews and of course my natural curiosity. ;D I'm so glad you have discovered the freedom of using less expensive supplies, and also the pure joy of using the good stuff. Having fun is the best way to enjoy art! 💗
I am very excited about Daniel Smith gouache because it re-wets easier than my other brands and doesn’t crack as much when you dry it out in a palette. This will allow me to take gouache with me in a plein air situation.
Hi Stephanie! I agree about Michael Harding - it's still crazy expensive here in the uk. I stick with Rosa Gallery and Roman Szmal- good quality and decent price - though Roman Szmal is getting expensive too!
Hi Helen! Thanks you for sharing! I made a lot of people mad at me, when I tried to warn people not to go buy them all. I don't feel they are worth paying so much more then other brands...but I think that is true with most brands. I was shocked to find them in the USA for less. Yes, I love Roman Szmal but they are getting pricey. I have a large collection but, I paid $2 for full pans?!? Rosa Gallery are very nice, and I'm going to be using them much more now too. It's hard to keep up with all of the price increases now. I'm so glad I was able to try many brands, while they were much more affordable. 💗
I was too, at first... I tried to use them long ways to get fast coverage and it left a gritty background. Lol. I love the pencils, so I hope I love these as much as their marketing told me I would! ;D 💗
Hi Sue! Yes, I think I've shared them a few times. So happy to hear you love them. I love them, too! I'm still collecting them to find my most favorite colors. Have you tried Nordman green and Boreal Blue yet? So, far those are my must haves. 💗
@@TheGypsyChic1 I tried those too...they are great at first but they don't have a great shelf life. When I went back to use them they weren't the same and there's no way to get the ink out. They are amazing for lettering though!

You cannot compare Albrect Durer to budget pencils! Maybe the Goldfarber is a little more fair. I do agree that if at all possible it’s best to buy artist grade supplies, but it’s not in everyone’s budget.
