The DS sticks are a pan on a stick. But I’ve seen others use as a crayon or pencil. But use it the way you want to. I believe the sticks are equivalent to 3 or 5 half pans.

I was anticipating hugely a post from you since I checked out Jackson's a couple of days ago - I was looking forward to seeing the things you bought from Schmjnke! I got a few small items myself - just little bits - but gosh I really enjoy seeing you goodies!
Thanks so much, Helen! Haha, you know I was checking daily at Jackson's, hoping to find exciting new things! LOL. I didn't find anything for me personally, in the early BFS. Since they switched to having a store here in the USA, the prices have been no better then Blick, sometimes higher actually. But, mostly I have already splurged quite a bit! LOL. I still really enjoy the retro palette, did you get that one? I hope you enjoy your new goodies! I may have some more Black Friday goodies to share! ;D 💗

That was an awesome art haul Stephanie, kudos to you! I took the lid from a Derwent Artists pencil set and made a watercolor pallette of Daniel Smith watercolor paints from tubes and sticks in the lid. I took a couple of the Daniel Smith sticks and scored about an inch segment of it, snapped it off and placed them in half pans with the other half pans. I use them like any other watercolor pans. The sticks are a good way to stock up on any of the paints that are going to be discontinued because of how much product you get with them.
Thank you, Cheryl! That's a great idea! I want to try to paint some old palettes to make one just for my DS sticks. Thank you for the idea of using them as pans. I already have the colors in pans, but will try the sticks for new colors for sure. I'm really enjoy them, and I think you are right it is the best way to stock up on paints that will be discontinued! Thanks for sharing all your tips! 💗
Hi Stephanie, What a treat to see your video today. I am watching the holiday ones. I have been getting huge deals since Prime days on Amazon this year. I only have done a few small orders on Blick because I needed oil paints for my oil paint class. I also got the Hahnnemule set for also for 14ish dollars. I order the Artxx journals which are on sale through Amazon. I have scored on Daniel Smith paint sets since summer which is a great savings. I wanted to share that one of my viewers told me that if Daniel Smith paints do not rewet easily that the paint is probably older. Well this summer I tested that theory and all of my sets including half pans the DS paints rewet like butter. So my viewer was correct I probably had bought older tubes that once dry were hard as a rock to rewet. I am so happy with my new collection of DS paints since summer until recently which I got the 15 half pan on plastic and another small plastic that came in for free ready to go for $39 on Amazon. I notice since Prime sales that Amazon deals come in around 1AM-5AM are the best deals. I wake up for early Mondays and Wednesdays for my oil paint class so that is how I started to spot the sales. I live in California so adjust accordingly to your time zone. Happy Thanksgiving! Maria
Hi Maria! What a treat to see your comment. Right, Prime has some great deals. I don't like to share until I have received them. I'm so glad you purchased the Hahnemuhle set while it was still on sale. It's so so fun to get things on our wish list at a great price! I purchased most my Daniel Smith collection awhile ago. Do you mean they changed the formula and the newer tubes are better, or DS just doesn't last long? I'm trying my best to only invest in products that will last a long time. I've only had trouble with colors not available in half pan. Colors like Potter's Pink, and some Primateks. I'm happy to hear you are enjoying your new DS paint sets. Thanks for sharing all the deals you found. I didn't know you had a channel, I will definitely check out your channel. I hope you enjoy your oil painting class. I'm too scared to try oil, lol. Happy Thanksgiving! 💗
@TheGypsyChic1 Hi Stephanie, my viewer share to give DS another chance with newer tubes. So I finally did this summer and the newer tubes are much softer. They do rewet super easy. So I notice that my old tubes from 3 years ago must be old. They dry like a rock and I have to soak them to get them to move. I have potters pink on my list. Thank You/happy Friday 😊
Thank, Maria! Thanks so much for sharing. I will try to search for a super deal like you found. Lol. I'm trying to not need to try every brand and every color. ;D Happy Friday! 💗
Hello lovely! I allow myself to buy some things in December, but from January on, I will have a no buy for at least 6 months, until it is my birthday in July. Share all things expensive and inexpensive. You are not responsible for someone else's spending behavior. I don't have a lot of hobbies so my husband and I agree to my spending habits when I comes to art supplies. Some people collect trains, hockey jerseys, shoes... Hi stephanie, just looked at the DS sticks and the cheapest I can find in the UK is £40 for 5 😮!!!! Loved the video as usual. I've just bought a Ltd edition schminke palette 2024 can't remember how many paints as I saw the palette and had to have it, it's a sort of geometric design of an owls face with oranges and browns, beautiful design palette, it was the last one on amazon UK. Have you seen it?
Hi Sue! They are $37 for the set of 5 here in the USA. But, that is very affordable compared to the tubes. I will probably try new colors that way. YES!!! I saw that palette on the Schmicnke's Instagram page. I would love to add the pallete to my collection, if it's not too expensive. I was hoping that would be part of the Black Friday sale at Jackson's. I haven't found it yet, but fingers crossed. It is filled with the Akademie paints though sadly, correct? Enjoy your new Schmincke palette, it looks gorgeous!!! 💗
I watched another video of someone who has used the sticks in their pans and she said she can get 3 full pans or 5-1/2 half pans from one stick. Hope this helps.
If you have credit card rewards and you’re only paying a small amount of actual money I would say that still qualifies as a low buy. The rewards aren’t actual cash so I don’t think they would count against the bottom line of what you spent. No, I’m not facilitating, lol. I’m just pointing out the obvious.

I sincerely hope that your holidays are good and memorable this year with more laughter and joy than ones in the past. God bless you and forgive me for misinterpreting your comment. Much ❤️
Share all things expensive and inexpensive. You are not responsible for someone else's spending behavior.
I don't have a lot of hobbies so my husband and I agree to my spending habits when I comes to art supplies. Some people collect trains, hockey jerseys, shoes... I collect professional watercolor paint!
Thank you so much for your comment. It really means a lot to me. I really don't want to appear to be showing off. I currently love art supplies, and traveling. I've said many times, some people collect jewelry or shoes, I collect beautiful art supplies! ;D I still love trying all the brands and all of the colors. I'm with you!!! 💗
so nice ❤❤❤ new subscriber
Thanks so much! I'm happy to have you! 💖
Don't allow folks to blame you for their inability to keep to their budgets. It's not your problem... Let your flag fly!!
Thank you!! I've shared before I often use credit card rewards, etc. but I really don't want anymore hate for sharing beautiful supplies I love. 💗
Yes!!! We are here for it all! 🎉❤
Thank you, Ann!
I watched another video of someone who has used the sticks in their pans and she said she can get 3 full pans or 5-1/2 half pans from one stick. Hope this helps.
Thank you! I've heard a few people mention using them in half pans. Thanks for the help. 💗
If you have credit card rewards and you’re only paying a small amount of actual money I would say that still qualifies as a low buy. The rewards aren’t actual cash so I don’t think they would count against the bottom line of what you spent. No, I’m not facilitating, lol. I’m just pointing out the obvious.
Thanks, Rayne! That is exactly how I rationalize investing in my future happiness. ;D
