    Hi Brett so I sold my trusty Pajero and am looking at upgrading and essentially have narrowed it down to this or the MV Triton GSR. Having driven both of these and tested them both on and offroad, for your money, which one would be sitting in your driveway?

    • @351tgv
      @351tgv 5 місяців тому

      um.
      How reliable was the Pajero? the new Triton is still way to new to have any decent reports from fleets about durability / reliably, my only concern is how much "Renault" influence is in the electrics side of the vehicle (look at Outlander for example at how much Renault influence there is in the electrics of that car which is based on the sister X-trail from Nissan) since it has a lot of "Nissan" influence in terms of design, good to see that they have gone to sequential turbo charger set up (same as Ford Ranger type set up) and kept the 6-speed torque converter which has very good gearing combined with short final drive ratio (the final drive ratio is 4.722:1), the interesting thing is 4th gear is direct drive 1:1 with 5th/6th being over drive however with a nice fat long and wide torque curve (spread from 1,500 to 2,750) the transmission won't be jumping around due to torque curve and low final drive.
      Also to me the new MV Triton look really good in person, pictures and video don't do the design justice inside and outside.
      The other advantage is Super Select II (provided you buy upper spec) which is something that the D-Max can not match and only Ranger/Amarok (again upper spec) offers, having 4A (essentially AWD) does come in handy.

      the other things to consider: of Triton v D-max
      - its euro 6 so that means Ad-blue (SCR), if you tow at highway speeds you will need to keep an eye on the ad-blue levels, this does not apply to the D-Max which is still Euro 5 so just DPF to worry about).
      - the driver safety systems, they are annoying especially the stupid driver monitor which is way to sensitive and needs to be witched off every time you intend on driving the vehicle, not an issue with D-Max as its a simple button on the steering wheel to switch off some systems.
      - auto start stop, the button to switch it off is located on the right hand side, and you learn quickly to switch it off every time toy drive.

    It looks like the gearing is very bad and a bit rough so the power distribution is very bad, in contrast to the diesel Hilux or Prado which are quite smooth and the rpm is maintained at maximum power.

  • @angusnz7910

    Always had a soft spot for the dmax and triton…something about the underdog syndrome as much as anythjng I think. Probably why I brought the mail hated Ute ever when it came out late 2019…the x350 (after they stopped the price from stupid to merely expensive).

    • @drivingenthusiastaustralia
      @drivingenthusiastaustralia  5 місяців тому

      Nice. I actually quite liked the X350 as well. Great engine, and it has a whiff of 'I'm better than you' to all the other utes lol. Even though it's based on Navara etc.

    • @351tgv
      @351tgv 5 місяців тому

      The X350 was a decent effort due to the Mercedes V6 and 4x4 running gear, the rest was pure stoge Nissan which could not figure how to make the rear suspension work (and atill cant) it took Premcar to figure out how to fix it.
      One of the reason why Mercedes got out of the ute business is probably the X250 which was despite Mercedes insistence just a reskinded Navara even right down to the key fob.

    You know why i dont trust car reviews??
    They sign a contract where they cannot fault the current model cars.
    In terms of known issues.
    Such in this case. The dmax is suffering from uneven tyre wear from the knuckle suspension. But car reviewers dont mention that.
    If the car reviewers do mention this issue, isuzu will ban them from doing future isuzu reviews.
    That is why all you hear with negative reviews is - towing load, speed, engine power, how smooth the transmission is and how the interior looks.
    Unlike independent car reviewers. Like scotty car reviewers he will tell you why the current model cars are bad and why you should avoid them.

    • @drivingenthusiastaustralia
      @drivingenthusiastaustralia  5 місяців тому +3

      Totally incorrect. I didn’t sign anything mate. If I had to sign anything I wouldn’t have attended.
      I’ve been working in the industry for 15 years and I can tell you, advertising dollars is what keeps negative feedback from being expressed. Advertising deals also pay for so-called ‘car of the year’ awards.

    • @drivingenthusiastaustralia
      @drivingenthusiastaustralia  5 місяців тому +3

      Also, regarding issues such as tyre wear, we only test vehicles for a week. It’s a bit difficult and it would be unprofessional for us to comment on specific long term reliability. That’s where you, the actual customer, can provide useful feedback and insight on platforms such as UA-cam so potential buyers can also take that in.

    • @351tgv
      @351tgv 5 місяців тому +1

      @@drivingenthusiastaustralia - careful Bret, you will have certain people from Fairfax Drive say they never received brown paper bags, just like wheels did when they gave various Commodores COTY awards.
      A perfect example right now are certain "Experts" (lol, experts in what?) dress up sponsored content as "news" yet somehow week later another article appears about the very same vehicle news in the form of a mini review, clearly both articles were "SPONSORED" content but of course both sides say everything is on the up and up (which is clearly BS) as this particular person was caught out many times when they were so called giving "Advice" several years ago.

    • @drivingenthusiastaustralia
      @drivingenthusiastaustralia  5 місяців тому +1

      @@351tgvYep, it can be misleading. It’s a shame though because car of the year awards used to be very good and useful to customers. My favourite Aussie car journalist was Peter Wherrett and the Torque TV show. Classic to-the-point car testing. No BS. I think some episodes are still on ABC iview.

    • @351tgv
      @351tgv 5 місяців тому

      @@drivingenthusiastaustralia - yes and ABC have made his show "TORQUE" available to view on UA-cam, told it like it is.
      While some have questioned his lifestyle choices, at the end of the day his reviews, news and hard hitting take on the Australian "then" car industry was spot on and much of it applies today and to me that is what matter most.
      Sadly "some" reviewers have lost the plot and gone way overboard with the "newz" yes with a Z content which is clearly sponsored content (looking at you "Mr so called Expert" and I am not talking about John either) while the guys at Drive at least tell you "hey its sponsored" which is a good thing that they do, it could be worse, the review site could be owned by an Insurance company which refuses to pay out, that said I'm sure Tom is a good guy but he did sell out.
      ok enough about the politics of this, get back to what you do best.

  • @351tgv
    @351tgv 5 місяців тому +3

    not enough of change to be asking for those prices. D-Max and M-Mux are truly awful off road (have towed many out f rather simple situations due to the 4x4 system with TC being dumb), great for towing but way to compromised overall which is why you see a lot of owners selling them after a few years ownership and getting unto other brands.
    This test just proved that the off road systems are still crap, seriously, loose road based mogul testing? Isuzu have no faith in their products.

    • @drivingenthusiastaustralia
      @drivingenthusiastaustralia  5 місяців тому +2

      Yeah I agree. TC systems - regardless of how fancy they might be - rarely beat proper mechanical traction in the real world; the rear diff lock here gets it through most situations anyway.
      Maybe Isuzu would have been better off investing in a centre diff rather than 'rough terrain' mode?
