Own a 2023 Model D-Max and have loved it since day one. Handles extremely well and tows my trailer flawlessly and a pressure washing trailer fully loaded without issue.
Fair test well done. The Triton will be better with its first upgrade. I think the Superselect AWD puts the Triton in elite company for safety in slippery conditions.
I drove both, and ended up buying a Mazda BT50 Thunder, which of course is a re-badged D-Max, but with a better degree of interior finish and a company that is actually pretty good to deal with.
Just did the whole “test drive every ute” thing. Really liked the Triton. They are being sold at significant discounts for demos much cheaper than the demax. However the 2024 demax felt better to drive and I felt more comfortable with it (tritons suspension driven back to back was much worst). Also these reviews never mention the demax bump steer issue. It’s a real thing and supposedly fixed in the 2024 model, but we won’t really know for a while yet will we? What did I buy? A Navara Warrior. Yes it’s an older platform but it cost the same and had essentially $10k worth of off-road mods already done. It’s really great value for money and you have the peace of mind that all issues have been ironed out.

Issue I think is the unfair reviews that have done the rounds. Quite a few were bias towards the Ranger (stop me if you've heard that before) and the others saying it was more or less slightly better than the model it replaced. Fact is the new Tritons are actually surprisingly far superior to the older model and a good alternative to the likes of a Dmax. But nobody wants to admit it....enjoy yours. They're actually really good!!
@Mochabear85 I agree most reviewers are extremely biased, it seems like some are also paid off by ford. You can't go 1 minute into a review without hearing about a v6 ranger. Then they will throw in the ranger can tow 3.5 tonnes. Every triton review is a commercial for ford rangers. Car expert says the ford offers the best value for money despite being the most expensive, you know when someone is bribed. Since then he had to change the transfer case in his v6 ranger , but that does not matter because ford is paying.
@@warcrabcyber9908 don't get me started on the carexpert review. All the supposed "issues" off road they had came down to user error, it was pretty obvious that they were using the Super Select II system wrong with the whole it won't switch to certain modes, but they just went ahead and said the system doesn't work well at all and the ute was no good off road. I actually got the new GSR Triton before most of the media did their "review" and cannot agree with many of them. Im usually a big fan of Rangers, but credit where it's due, the new Tritons are awesome little weapons.
Isuzu for me. It's likely at the end of the line for this version before a full update. The new Triton is just in its infancy of life cycle, hence expect improvements in it's life cycle down the line.

I would choose the dmax because it's been perfected from past experiences. I literally just bought the exact same dmax y'day.
Mitsubishi super select is a great feature, which I loved in mine BUT I would never trust Mitsubishi again after my late 2015 4D56 over heated & engine blew a head gasket after a bad run of roughly machined engine blocks which they said was resolved earlier in 2014. Mitsubishi replaced the engine in 'good faith' but would not warranty the job. Now I'm in a 4jj3 & love it. Isuzu has been great in servicing & that 4jj3 is a solid performer. They may have issues like bump steer (which they are replacing) but after Mitsubishi....engine reliability is the key deciding factor for me.
Kinda agree with the crew’s observation. Triton sounds noisy from the outside, specially when the AC compressor kicks in. The 4JJ3 on the dmax idles very well compared to the older 4JJ1s.
I test drove both of these last week. Couldn't buy Isuzu for two reasons. One being the engine noise is loud in the cab, and v t he second one too mmm much lag in acceleration. Triton was very much quieter and it's take up in acceleration was very good, it easily kicked itself down a gear without prompting, Isuzu was very reluctant with that extra lag was very dissatisfying
Worth considering is the tritons warranty. Pretty large if I recall correctly. Also the dealer now offers a mod to make the driver monitoring less shit. Surprised neither was brought up in this review.
The triton has a much better awd system , you can drive in full time 4wd at highway speeds making it safer on wet roads The dmax has that same issue as the d40 navara where it easily spins out on wet roads. The x terrain dmax is also more expensive than a triton. But missing features. The ford ranger may be expensive and unreliable, but it has full time 4wd on the v6 model.
@666dualsport no you can't, on the hilux you can't drive over 40kmph in 4h , neither the dmax , unless you want your transfer case to be in bits and pieces on the road On the triton you can drive at any speed in 4h , as well as the v6 ranger. This is what full time awd means.
If you know how to drive, you wont spin out and if its an oil slick 4WD wont save you... That annoying driver alert mode in the triton would make me want to drive it off a cliff.

Dmax any day!
Fiat fullback and Fiat titano also very good, it's same the Mitsubishi Triton or Strada car same doublet company design for European market.
You obviously don’t drive out on the open road… Most 4x4’s pulling anything of significance are Isuzu’s! More Isuzus than Triton’s that for sure!
Triton for me
Opinions are like assholes everyone has one😂
All the reviews keep pushing the ranger for some reason ( maybe the $$$ they give for a biased review)
All new cars have issues (some more than others)
So if you like a certain car happy days just leave it at that
The update for the driver monitoring was the best thing they did
I’ve already done 20000km in 3 months in my GSR and love it
Great review
What sold me was the 10y warranty and the ride comfort
I would rather buy a second hand one save about 30k mod it and bush bash 😆
Tried and tested 4j Isuzu for me
Like your Flight Master
Thank you mate - Trent
Isuzus has always looked funnier so go with the triton😅
No way triton has add blu
😡😡 YES THEY ARE TO EXPENSINE IN 2024 UTES USED TO BE CHEAP 🤑
Triton good❤
Isuzu auto technology is still left behind not futuristic just simple mechanical engineering
More reliable and durable, for sure.
mighty 4JJ3
It would have been much better if you had driven the two utes in offroad. That way, we could choose which one is better than the other. Using their physical appearance and its engine size doesn't make the other look good and excellent.
If you watched fully he stated that they will be doing that in the near future but not today(as it was too much to cover).
I’ve got a 4 month old Dmax and it’s falling to bits. Absolutely hate it, Would never buy another Isuzu
I have a MY23 Dmax Xterrain delivered in 24 & have had continuous issues with no support from Isuzu. Cheap & Nasty in all aspects.
D Max is the best!
I can solve all your problems: buy a Ford Ranger instead. They are by any metric streets ahead of any of their competitors.
Tow truck required
Junk
Not much difference but I'd go with tested reliability and DMax has that over the new Triton for now
non there all shitboxes tritan has the best customer service
The classifieds are littered with GLS and GSR tritons at low to mid 50's for GLS and 59-60 on the GSR driveaway. As dealer i spoke with said they are struggling to sell them.
Such shit vehicles for the City, unless you absolutely need a UTE, so many better options.
If they are so shit why did you talk to the dealer on availability?
@@DJTrumpMAGA i said in the City, I live in the country, reasonable vehicle with such huge discounts available.
That triton just looks so ugly I'm buying a byd shark 6
Shark is ugly af
Buy neither there both wasted shiteboxes
I go for the dmax is my best ute triton useless
Both rubbish! I'll take the new VW Amarok thanks.
Both too expensive
Both useless small narrow Utes like hilux and ranger and too expensive in a small Utes category
