I fished with a well known guide in the Corpus Christi area and he said to keep the rod high at 12 o’clock, and twitch and work it more vertically popping it up and down up out of the grass. My Dad caught 40+ trout with Golden Bream on a 1/16oz screw lock jighead.
One of my favorite baits to use. Works great as a search bait or in a new area you aren’t familiar with. Have caught a ton of Jack, trout, reds, snook, and even juvenile tarpon in central florida. The XL size can be rigged weedless around docks and mangroves
Dave just wanna say thanks for these videos. I got a pack of these at Basspro in Fort Myers. Been fishing from the beach at my condo and got several nice snook. Other guys have been asking what I’m using as they’re using live bait and not getting the strikes. I also recommended these videos to them so they can give your tips a try.
You can actually rig a lil John on an owner twist lock hook. I do it all the time on a 1/16-1/8 ounce owner 3/0 twistlock hook. Just don’t try to put the hook back into the lure to make it totally weed less. I also sometimes bite off about 1/2-1 inch before rigging. I use this as a go to in shallow water with the golden bream color.
Golden bream is the best one I’ve used. I got the multipack and it seems to be the best of the colors. The snook have been firing on it here in Fort Myers Beach. The watermelon color worked well over at Lover’s Key for reds. I also use the weedless 1/4 oz jig heads.

@@Saltstrong Thank you so much. I haven’t fished since two days before Hurricane Ian but I’m in the final stages of rebuilding our home and need to get back on the horse and get back in the water. I’ve really enjoyed your videos in the meantime, have continued to learn, and have fished vicariously through you guys. Have a tremendous week and again Thanks!

I had the most incredible day fishing the upper Mississippi for smallmouth using this bait. Fishing partner introduced them to me, and they were unbelievable.
@@thomaskladar4464 How did fishing partner get ahold of these since they're saltwater lures? I have a couple packs of these, but have never used them. I have a hard time believing fish would bite these stupid- looking things; they have no built in action; it looks like a stick made of soft plastic.

Fish these on the caloosahatchee I'm from the 239 lehigh
What rod and reel setups do you use? Line etc.
Wyatt and Dave I’ll be in corpus this weekend with some friends. Let’s fish !!
The Lil John in gold and black and the clear/purple work good in texas
Slow retrieve it swims pretty well using a 1/8 Oz Fusion 19 jig head
Fusion 19 jig heads are nice 👍
thank you! Exactly the info I needed!
Glad it was helpful!
Who makes the rod holder?
Caught a ton of smallies on these in MN ontheupper Mississippi. Incredible baits
Nice!

I do this too and it works well for me. I find that the glow & the glow/chart tail works best in my area. Even during the day 🤷🏻♂️
Do you have a preference between the original Lik John vs Like John XL?
That will depend on the size of the bait in the water - match the hatch!
Useing a baitcaster i dont like the side to side im more a up and down retrive would it work
ned rig?
Very nice video I’m fishing in cape cod striped blue and Black Sea
We use those in Cali lol hook up baits and several others
I’ve fished it weedless with plenty success!
Great to hear! Thanks for sharing!
Same here!
Do you hook it with a loop knot? Great insight thx
Looked like he was using a loop knot when in they showed the close-up of the lure.
I would- you get better action
I used a uni with 15 lb braid and it worked great. At least with braid I feel it’s the strongest knot for the fish you’re going for.
Does anyone know what rod holder he has in the shoulder bag strap?
Also what’s a good bag for this style of wade fishing?

Hey Wyatt, is that pass near Pack? I’ve always wanted to wade it. Do you think it would be good in the winter or too much negative tide? Thx

I use twist lock waiting hooks on those all the time and kill it
Thanks Dave. I am a fan of jerk baits. I prefer them over paddle tails. I am a fairly new salt water angler.
How are some of these comments from 3 weeks ago?!

Ahah lil John 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Use a sluggo
Sluggo are my go to for Northern pike. These lures here are cheap for a dozen at $4.99 at Basspro. Using a 1/4 oz big eye jig head.
Looks like a Ned rig
You can definitely work them like a ned rig.
