It's been almost 10 years and I sincerely hope you're doing just as well and everything is alright!!
Thank you very much for making this video. Your advice on separating the plants has been incredibly helpful.
I just got my plants delivered today and I am so impressed with the quality! So glad I bought from you and not somewhere like amazon 😒 Thanks so much!!
Is it just me or 90% of people commenting here are professional carnivorous plant growers. Know it all's springs to mind. This guy makes a living from these plants how many of you do?
Its mostly Americans confusing the British term compost with the American one.
I was afraid to repot and divide my plant, but after watching you, I have the guts to do it! Thank you for posting this video.
How did it work? I wanna try it as well
+Teo Cazan Yes, it worked well for me!
Same here, after watching this.. I actually put this vid into one of my favorites since i will be in the VFT hobby for a while.. He did it with such confidence that i really don't mind doing it to my expensive cultivars and clones that just exploded into my small tiny pots after two years lol
I actually liked this video about 7-8 years ago still such a good video and I follow this repotting method to this day
I've bought 3 VFT from you, such great plants!
Damn you're rough with them.
I love your channel, its brilliant and really informative.
I also love your shop, I've bought many plants from there and they're all gorgeous and thriving, particularly my Jonesii which is a beast now and feeds all the time!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Was extremely helpful
Thank you so much for the helpful video. Very well explained and useful.
great video mate, very well explained.
Thank you for this video... i am going to save it in my favorites to return to it later... i bought a VFT this summer and it is planted in solely spaghnum moss... is that ok or do i need to repot into a peat and perlite mix?
Thanks for your explanation!
Thanks for that. it has been very helpful.
Shagnum moss is fine but watchout for it out growing your vft and give it a trim if it does.
We use a mix of 4 parts moss peat : 1 part lime free sharp sand
Very informative. I am just going to divide my newly purchase Venus flying trap. Thx.
fuguto you shouldn't do that yet.
Thank you for the demonstration. There is one thing I'm wondering about though, how often do they propogate / create new divisions? I repotted a couple I bought from the store, and I wonder how quickly they will fill out the slightly larger pot.
Possibly the best video on this subject I've seen so far! Very informative, excellent demonstration and straight to the point.
Ps,where in the uk can I buy Venus flytrap compost? And I don't buy anything online so shops only please.
great video!! keep it up
This was very helpful
Yes , from leaf cuttings will do video later in year
such a pro! thanks!!
Hallo sir, how many high they can grow and how many big for the a leaf for venus your are footage.... How about sun, full sun ? After repot... I mean how to care after you repot for adaptation a while until they are healthy again... Sorry my english not really good sir... Thanks have a nice day...
Hi Sir, Thank you for the video it was brilliant. I would just like to know how do you keep those small traps alive? Like the bigger ones are fine but I struggle with the smaller ones, any suggestions?
thanks for the video and the nice tips! I have a really tiny flytrap that came from a seed last year and i have it in a pot alone with a drosera cos , and I was seeing it getting worse... I am going to put it in a smaller pot, even thou I dont find them so i think i will have to use a yogurt or something smaller. Is that pure peat moss or is it mixed with perlite?
Hello!! very nice video!! I had a plant do de same when i did a re-pot earlier this year, yet they were still attached to each other...i left them be, should i have "broken" them apart, or wait a little longer so they can separate for themselves?
thanks!
great vid
Thank you :)
I've heard they need cooler temperatures for winter dormancy. Do they still need a lot of light during this time? I was thinking of moving mine from my windowsill out into my shed for the winter as that would be much cooler, but wouldn't have much light.
Amazing
Hablo español, pero aun asi le eh dado like. Muy bueno tu video!
Is there a specific compost you have to buy to re pot the plants or can you simply re pot using a normal shop bought compost?
Interesting video and verry educational, nice job
Can you tell me please what are the components in the compost soil for venus flytrap ? Because i ordered some seeds and i want to plant them but not any soil is good.
Thank you !
Great video. Where can I get moss peat?
Thanks.
I accidentally snipped off some new growth a very small little head. Trying to clip off a old black head. Is this going to stress out the plant to much or do I not have anything to worry about.??
MUDSWAT don't worry
I have tree Venus flytrap from you♡♡♡ they are beautyful...but I worry about winter, and that they don't have enough sun in England;0 ((
Rubbish. My VFT's grow fine in England all year round.
Is it right that once you do this, all the leaves close?
@Just Me
Sounds like the heat and rain is perfect conditions for growing, as the Venus Flytraps needs a lot of water and a lot of sunshine to grow. However, they can only grow in sterile soil, like the nutrient-poor soil you get in peat bogs. The water has to be either filtered or rain water and there needs to be enough that the soil is always moist. I’m making a video of how I grow my seeds I will upload it tomorrow to help you
Thks for sharing mate! Can you give distilled water instead of rain water?
bobbymalta73 yes, you can use distilled water
what time of the year is best for repotting VFTs ??
tanaman nyo pakai apo ?
kompos apo cak mano?
We sell compost from our nursery in Devon . Dont know any shops that will sell it
will each one of those produce flowers ?
it is possible to clean the soil with distilled water?
@playdrums Try it! It will shrivel and die which is good for flytraps!
compost has usually too many nutrients for this plant. surprising that your plants survive and even grow
Its actually peat moss. He's just calling it 'compost'.
I'm assuming you're american, words mean different things in different areas sorry not everywhere is the US
wow ppl really have a chip on the shoulder about us americans geez lol
Go Trump
They hate us cause they ain't us
Early spring
When you replant them do you have to divide them? or can you just keep them as they are?:)
Did you ever find out?
slackingsource unfortunately I did not🙁
nice
Does it matter what time of the year theyre divided?
How do i know when i have to repot it?
you can do both with no problem.
I just bought a little venus fly trap and the instruction says to plant it in sphagnum moss, but I see you have dirt in your plant. Any thoughts?
That's probably just peat moss
Mine seem to be dying and I've tried everything. There are hundreds of different answers for 1 question. I will keep buying them until they live
What lord tywin doing after GOT
When is The period of change of The pot
Plese ansfer
I just put it in a new pot but I haven't separated multiple roots is it gonna die?
Dead within 2 weeks
@@muthaphackk what'd you do?
I actually like that tight they are. Don't in the wild, them growing like that is normal? And how are they surviving in reach soil? That's not peat moss.
You sound like Michael Caine
So how do you clean the traps now..bcus tha full of soil now...that seriously annoys and irritates me
i thought that compost cant be used? you can only use boggy soil or peat moss?
He means peat by compost
*by compost he means peat
Hello? What type of soil do you plant those plants in? Thank you!
Nano Experiment, use a 3-to-1 mixture of 100% professional grade sphagnum peat moss - to 1 part perlite. Sunshine brand peat is the best and widely used by most all of the good carnivorous plant nurseries.
NEVER use Miracle Grow soil blends. They're fortified with fertilizers that will kill ALL carnivores, and quickly.
Two of the online nurseries I buy from have pre-blended soil blends that are fool proof. I buy all my soil blends from California Carnivores or SouthBay Traps. I've spent about $1,500 on carnivorous plants between both nurseries and I guarantee you that you won't be disappointed. They're both really good, amazingly healthy plants, phenomenal customer service, immaculate packaging, processing and shipping is always multiple days early.
thanks horror
No , i think it was an all green.
Venus Flytraps originate from the marshy and bog regions of North & South Carolina on the East coast of North America. There are little to no nutrients in the soil they grow in, as the nutrients have been washed away by the water in the boggy habitat. Therefore, the plant has adapted to source it's nutrients from insects. The pads (or mouths as I call them) contain (usually three trigger hairs) on each side of said pads. Once an insect lands on these pads and stimulates the trigger hairs, along with a sticky secretion which traps the insects, the pads will close, trapping their prey. They slowly dissolve the unfortunate prey and this is how they feed and are able to survive. If you own or are thinking of buying a venus fly trap, please don't try to stimulate the pads (mouths), as each one can only open two to three times, after which, the individual pad and leaf will die. If it is fooled into thinking it has caught prey, it will close and with nothing to digest, it will die off!
He keeps saying compost *RIP Fly trap*
He means peat moss
Mine never grow 😵😢 i buy some seeds by wish and i don't know what im doing wrong
Just me, I haven't had any luck from seed either but a quality small VTP I have found is the way to go. I will continue to try from seed but having one or two that have been started and nurtured by someone more knowledgeable at the time than me concerning VFT's was just the thing for me.
Seeds need heat and light to grow and they need filtered or rain water. I have successfully started seeds in old jam jars. The jar acts like a mini greenhouse, trapping heat which the seedlings need to germinate. Also, not all seeds germinate and even the ones that do take a good 3 weeks to sprout. I’m growing mine in the winter, so they started and ready to feed by spring.
Ghost In The Galaxy I live in Puerto Rico here is hot and rain a lot lol and never grow so I don’t know what I’m doing wrong maybe soil 🤷🏻♂️
The plants are not tropical and the seeds require a period of cold stratification. They also take a long time to grow even with perfect care
People really don't have the critical thinking to think maybe when he says compost he doesn't mean the one thing everyone knows not to give carnivorous plants
its sphaghum peat moss
Every time the traps close, it weakens that leaf and will eventually die. It's not good to constantly make all the traps close, they should only be triggered when eating.
Shut the poop up
when the roots grow out the bottom
do you want to share too me i live in sweden
“Tease”?
Does it hurt when the little traps close on bare skin? I'm kinda afraid to touch mine.
Bet you voted for trump. right?
goldengolondrinas yes they can bite your finger off
is it OK to feed my VFT little nuggets of raw hamburger every so often to train it and help it get stronger?
It probably won't do it any harm, but they do prefer live prey!
I read betta fish pellets are good for them
playdrums don’t feed it hamburger, give it insects.
I don’t feed mine at all they catch enough naturally outside where i live.
playdrums that's how you kill it..
Natalie Cruz no they are plants not fish
No, it isn't. Hamburger meat contains too much fat, which will probably kill your plant.
I was going to use a root stimulator when I re-pot my venus in a few days. Will this help or hurt?
probably hurt. VFT roots are very sensitive to any additives or nutrients in the soil. they can't even really tolerate tap water so i'd assume its probably too strong a chemical for them.
Can't hear you,
You're rough with the little plant and chocked the plant's traps with compost /peat moss..ouch!
Hurts to watch. Thats a very stressful process for them and hes doing it so rigorously. The more careful you are and the faster you do it the better it is for the plant
3 years? I repot my vft every 3 days. Hahaha
Dude you broke a roat when you decided the plant into two and you’re doing it alllllll wrong
Raahimz World Dude ,your wrong about mebeing wrong
You can literally grow them from leaf pullings, a little root snapped off won't hurt it much
Sounds far too low
look this is not potetos
Hahaha, no dude, you will barely even feel it.
