Bro, I'm glad the algorithm showed me this channel. You're slaughtering these Meshuggah songs. But also, the mix sounds great in my headphones. Excellent editing on the video as well. Definitely gunna check out more of your vids.
Always incredible playing. Drum tones are amazing, Chris with the insane mix. Question, what made you want to go with a 10" and 13" rack tom vs a 10" and 12"?
It’s also an even spread of 3 inch intervals. More continuous tuning spread with a 10 13 16. I run this spread when gigging with a 5 piece because (get this) I have to cram my entire kit in the front seat of a Subaru forester so I take the batter heads off and place the 10 inside the 13 inside the 16 inside the 20 bass. If the Tom intervals are less than 3 inches apart the drum won’t fit inside the next one. This way I can have all my toms inside the bass drum in my front seat. Goofy stuff but it works.
@@Hreodrich Haha, that's awesome. And you're correct, it's a more even interval. My thought is that a 12" and 13" tom essentially serve the same purpose, and 13s have always been way easier to tune for me. I tune my toms C-G-C. I have a tuning video about it as well, maybe you'll enjoy it!
Thank you my man. It's much more complicated than what I could explain in a YT comment, but I will say this: every little detail matters. From the player, to the drums, to the tuning, to the room, to the engineer, to who mixed it - the raw drums sound incredible, but my brother @chrisghazel really put the magic on the mix
Thank you! Man, this one was tough. Basically, I just start at the beginning and learn part by part. I used Troy Wright's transcription and just slowed the track wayyyy down until I figured out what was actually going on in the part, then slowly sped it back up to full speed. Most songs I can learn by ear, but this one was not one of them lol
That snare tone!! ♥
chill song.

Thank you! Honestly I just like the tone of a 13" a more than a 12"

The mix on this is fucking immaculate. Can you talk a bit about how you got this sound?

hey dude! Is that a DW Bell Brass snare? If not what kind of snare are you using??
always top notch. what is your process to learn these? Do you program them and slow them down or do they just kind of make sense to you quickly

@@AnthonyGhazel awesome! That’s basically how I go about tougher songs too so it makes me feel better that I also don’t just pick it up right away
Are u using Remo control sound for resonant heads?
yes! all my gear is in the description...
@@AnthonyGhazel thanks again
1:40 hardest shit in this part
Yeah for guitar too, took me the longest to learn.
