This is the first song I heard a quiet evening while working at the fitness center. I had to shazam who the band was, and I never looked back. Last weekend I was in Finland to see the last 2 finnish shows before NW take a longer pause to work on their next album. Floor is very pregnant (7-8 months) but she still hits all the notes like it was nothing. Impressive
This song has a special place in my heart !!! Not just because wolf is Estonian national animal, and my absolute spirit animal, but the windmill battle between Tuomas and Floor .... Plus, Floor's inner Wolf Howl !!! holy mother of Odin !!! I have seen this song Live in my home country Estonia, all though it was without Marko (but now we have a new Bass Player Jukka "Gentle Giant" Koskinen), but Troy (Full Time member) really steps up and harmonizes with Floor like never before. Still getting goosebumps, even if I write in here. So,...Troy Donockley "The Bard" (is an English composer and multi-instrumentalist most known for his playing of Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone). Troy is playing an Electric Bouzouki ( A musical instrument popular in Greece. It is a member of the long-necked lute family, with a round body with a flat top and a long neck with a fretted fingerboard.). AND, the drummer : Kai Hahto is "The Human Metronome", or in my book Kai "The Machine Gun" Hahto ( is a Finnish musician and drummer). Hahto was a member of the grindcore band Rotten Sound. Hahto then recorded with the band Wintersun as a session drummer before joining them as a band member. Hahto has an endorsement relationship with Meinl cymbals, Pearl drums and hardware, Balbex drumsticks, Roland V-Drums and Finfonic earphones. On 6 August 2014, it was announced that Hahto will be playing drums on the forthcoming Nightwish album, replacing Jukka Nevalainen, who went on hiatus from the band due to insomnia, and Hahto performed on all live shows since that date. On July 15, 2019, Hahto became Nightwish's permanent drummer following Nevalainen's decision not to return to the band. And that Emppu solo... He just teases you with that (just look at that grin he is making). The title is taken from a King's novel called “Wolves of the Calla”. But the conception of the book has nothing to do with the text behind the song, it is far more inspired by the film "Dead Poets' Society". The main idea is - one must live his life the best he can, to strive for his aims, because the wolves are always 7 days behind you and they will catch you if your life is not of full value... and then you will be only dead meat. That's what Tuomas said in one interview some time ago. Howl and thank you!!! NWSU/Floorfan 🤘🐺🤘.
This insane indeed. I heard this one at their Amsterdam concert and it was insane good just as the whole concert was. Great reaction guys, keep digging en rock on!
Epicness right there on that stage with all the trademark Nightwish transitions and multi layering and all band members masters of their craft. At 10:02 Floor commands "Wembley let's GO" and GO it did and at 14:16.. Floor WOW. Thank you gents for a great reaction. 🙏😊👍❤️
Another great reaction guys. Yes, you just met the sixth member of Nightwish, Troy Donockley. He is English and a fabulous multi-instrumentalist and singer. He is most famous for playing the Uilleann pipes, the national bagpipes of Ireland. Here is playing an Irish bouzouki not a mandolin. The Bouzouki and mandolin are from the same family of stringed instuments and have similar sounds but the bouzouki is usually pitched lower. He also plays Irish whistles, guitars, aerophones, and many others. He once was asked what he doesn't play and he said hockey. He was a guest on the Dark Passion Play and Imagaenerum albums with Annette and became a full time member at the same time as Floor. At the Wacken concert he wasn't on stage for every song but as Tuomas used him more on the subsequent albums you will see him on stage for the full show from Wembley/Tampere going forward. Some songs to here Troy and his pipes are Last of the Wilds live from Wacken (instrumental during which Floor is changing outfits), I Want My Tears Back live (I think Buenos Aries from 2018 is best but Wacken is pretty good as well) and Elvenjig/Elvenpath live (Again Buenos Aries is my favorite but Bogota is awesome as well). Troy has taken on more of the backing vocals with Marko having left. Song takes it's title from the Steven King novel The Wolves of Calla but is about choosing how to live ones life knowing that the wolves, i.e. death, are only Seven Days away. We can choose to be heros and live a life of meaning and purpose or cowards and just let life happen to us.
Thomas Empo and Marco asked Floor and Troy to be members at the same time in mid 2012 but it supposed to break the news at christmas but was announesed before that of reasons i dont remember!
This is one of my all time favorite songs. I love everything about it. The slow start, the breakdown picking up pace, to that awesome riff at the end of the breakdown (right before "light the fire, feast") and the awesome harmonies. Isaw them play this live in Amsterdam last year and even without Marko it was awesome 🖤🤘🏼
Hey again Chris and Sam. I'm loving your Nightwish reactions. Actually, Troy became a full member of Nightwish at the same time that Floor did, shortly after the Wacken 2013 festival. As others have said, he is an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist and sings backup vocals as well. Here he was playing the Irish bouzouki (a larger relative of the mandolin), but he also plays the Uillean Pipes (Irish elbow pipes), the electric guitar (with or without an ebow), the acoustic guitar, the low whistle, the tin whistle, and practically anything else you can strum or blow into. Someone once asked Troy what he couldn't play and he said "Hockey". Thank for continuing to react to our beloved Nightwish with Floor.
Kai does put his own spin on some songs. I haven't noticed it on all of them, but there's some where you can definitely hear him putting his own stamp on the groove. Storytime would be the most obvious. Granted, I'm not a drummer, so it's possible he changes up more than I can pick up on, but it in no way compromises the song's sound, so I say why not?
Fun fact for you guys. This song is inspired by the 5th book in Stephen Kings Dark Tower Series, "The Wolves of the Calla". Tuomas is a huge King fan. Any fellow Constant Readers that are Nightwish fans?
Troy is a full member since 2013, same time as Floor Jansen. He did play on a lot of Nightwish albums as a guest. It is by the way not a Mandoline but a Bouzouki (boozuki)
In one of his interviews, Tuomas told that: The song's title is taken from Stephen King's novel “Wolves of the Calla”. However, the conception of the book has nothing to do with the song's lyrics that are far more inspired by the film "Dead Poets' Society". The main idea of the song idea that one must live his life the best s/he can, to strive for his/her aims, because the wolves are always 7 days behind and they will catch you if your life is not of full value, and then you will be only dead meat.
Welcome to the Nightwish army (Dutch division)! Wishing you a great journey down the rabbit hole from Nightwish! When you're ready for it see...yours is an empty hope and the poet and the pendulum (but first read the background information and see the Wembley version).
Glad you have seen sixth band member multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley from England. He has played with Nightwish on a few of their albums but joined full time at the same time as Floor mid 2013. You will see him on pipes, whistles, guitars as well as the bouzouki in this song.
That is actually an Irish Bouzouki adapted from the Greek one but changed for the Irish folk musicians preferences: flatter soundbox and therefore bigger to compensate lack of volume, because the traditional pear shaped Bouzouki's soundbox takes some getting used to for people playing standing which is more common in Irish bands and different tuning as in Irish music is used more for accompaniment arpeggios and less for solos.
Yes , the drummer came from Wintersun, his name is Kai Hahto. Jukka was more of a showman, Kai is more of a technician. Jukka played Tama ,Kai plays Pearl. The 6th member is multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley (from the UK). His Irish Bouzouki is a relative of the Mandola. He also plays pipes , whisltes, guitar with EBOW. And sings, a lot of it 3rd harmony , some backing, and lead vocal on Harvest. Since Marko left his vocal role has expanded. . He started with Nightwish in 2007, made permanent in 2013 , along with Floor. For a good look at him , and more Floor and Marko, try I Want My Tears Back from the Buenos Aires 2018 show.
Troy first started showing up as a guest on Nightwish's albums with 2007's "Dark Passion Play," the album this song is on. It's amusing to see pics of him from back then since he doesn't have the beard and doesn't look right.
I’ve been loving you guys analyzing through Queen of the Murder Scene, The Warning is far and gone my favourite new band and my hope for the future of rock…… but……. Watching Nightwish is like coming home to the highest level of composition, musicianship and the best female vocalist in the world. Don’t get me wrong, if Nightwish and The Warning ever cross paths it would be epic……. and don’t you just want to see Pau and Floor side by side😂
Troyis by the band for many many years. Plays Irish backpipes, flutes, all kinds of snare instruments and has a beautiful voice. He was also on stage in Wacken 2013 with certain numbers
Hmm, I do not see a nightwish created playlist. Can't recall all the songs you did on them, so *devil and the deep dark ocean* is next same concert, I believe? Great job as usual, fellas!
Later through the list of NW songs, you'll see Troy play uilleann pipes , Whistle, bouzouki, one song he plays with ebow as well (GSoE in Wembley). Troy plays so many instruments, its amazing. And he added a 3rd voice and then stepped up his singing after Marco left as backing vocalist as well. Soon, you should get to "I want my tears back", hopefully in Buenos Aries I think cause Floor sings perfectly while jumping around the stage and Troy breaks out an amazing performance on the (Irish) uilleann pipes (not bag pipes which are Scottish)
My no 3 NW song. Marco said in his autobiography that this was his biggest concert. Jukka was a showman, Kaitsu is known as "The Human Metronome". Troy started playing with them in 2007 and became permanent at the same time as Floor. Here's some info on Troy: Troy plays: Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki (NOT mandolin though no doubt he plays that too as he plays mandola(, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone Troy on the pipes: ("please learn the setlist" documentary): "You have to be slightly insane to play them. They're not easy." Tuomas told me he'd been working on "The Eyes of Sharbat Gula" for a while without really hitting the mark. As I was listening to an early demo I thought it sounded so intriguingly hypnotic that it really didn't need explanatory lyrics. When I mentioned this to Tuomas he said it had never occurred to him to think it like that. The song became an instrumental although there are some ethereal human voices in the background. TONI: Troy, the other new member, didn't have to jump in as dramatically [as Floor], but he has become an irreplaceable part of this group, too. If there's tension in the air for some reason, Troy casts a spell and magically dispels the bad vibes. EWO: Troy radiates the kind of cheerfulness that we sulky northerners can only dream of, but I guess some of his positive attitude has rubbed off on us, too. TUOMAS on touring with Troy: We start preparing about 30 minutes before the show [New York Hammerstein 2915], each of us in his or her own way. Floor changes on her stage clothes and warms up her voice in her dressing room, while we`re warming our fingers in ours. Back in the day, I used to get scared stiff before the show - it was just nauseating, pure horror. It all changed when Troy did some kind of a hypnotic trick to me in Los Angeles in 2012. I really don't know what happened during those twenty minutes, but afterwards, I haven't really panicked before going on slage. By the way, a word of suggestion: please don't stop in the middle of a guitar solo note!
An excellent reaction as usual guys with some well observed insights. Glad to see you’ve been introduced to Kai on drums. He is an excellent technical drummer. On the current tour he gets to open the show with “Noise”, a brilliant opener. For a great version try Hellfest 2022. He really shows his technical side at the start of “Weak Fantasy” live at Tampere. Both worth checking out.
Emppu throws picks constantly. I was lucky enough to get one when they toured in the US in 2022. Best night. I'd love to see your reaction to Ever Dream from Wacken 2013.
When Jukka made the decision to step down as a playing member of the band, he had already talked to the band about his friend Kai(who was well known by everyone)and the transition was a good choice. Kai spent months learning exactly how to duplicate every NW song. Jukka's drumming style is slightly different than Kai's, so it was a huge feat. Kai was the drummer for the studio version of EFMB(Endless Forms Most Beautiful)but Jukka had already worked with Tuomas on the songs ,and then worked with Kai. Kai did make a few changes, but you can really hear the influence of Jukka. Human:l:Nature is all Kai. Jukka is a big part of the management team and not a fan club president.
@@572BtriodeCEO/Manager, heard both terms used for what he does. I haven't looked into how he's been doing with his insomnia lately, hope it's gotten better.
@@CorporalCookie I recall the question has come up with Floor and Tuomas relatively recently and best I remember they have said he is doing a very great deal better. This is nice to hear.
Its a bouzouki. Not a Mandolin. Yes Troy is the 6th member. He joined round the same time as Floor. He plays many different instruments such as bouzouki, pipes, flutes, whistles. guitar, and sings. And musicians pausing during a solo. Whats this world coming to....
Wellwell, mandolin is a very essential heavy metal instrument (Irish bouzouki this time). This is a powerful and very well staged live performance. They played this at Kitee Rantakenttä 16.6.2023, when l was around. Haha, Floor's spiritual animals are "The Dog and the Wolf". She has tattooed them behind her ears. I saw them in the morning. 😅👍
Marko is an amazing singer. You should react to Marko singing Wings of Darkness from 1982 .Troy and Floor were official in 2013 after Wacken. Love Floor's Owl Tattoo
more great harmonics in not so popular requested songs: -weak fantasy 2015 Tampere -endless forms most beautiful 2015 Tampere EFMB is the title track from the 2015 album and live performed an absolute kick-ass song
TROOOOYYYYYYY!!!!!! It's been a day, so I'm sure you know all about Troy by now, just like you know it's a bouzouki, not a mandolin. But. TROOOOOYYYYYY!!!!!
Someone decribed the difference between Jukka and Kai as the difference between Star wars Sith lord and Jedi master. They both are brilliant, just different styles.

You want to hear what the drummer Kai Hahto is capable of, listen to his primary band " Wintersun". This stuff is really hard and Kai drums like crazy there. ua-cam.com/video/Tl5T-glTdXw/v-deo.html
You really should just follow Gabriel Bardacs list. Don't jump around. The list introduces you to various aspects of Nightwish at a gentle pace. You have no idea what they're capable of, and it's best to be guided to the apex so that you can fully appreciate it. You are robbing yourself of the best possible experience by not following the list.
I can't tell you how many times I've heard this comment about some obscure list buried in the comments of one of our videos. We want our reactions to be driven by viewer suggestions, not by some list. We don't believe that there's a right and wrong way to enjoy music. We are open to a couple suggestions if you like to leave some. Thanks for watching! :)
Hello Chris and Sam, this 'extra member' is Troy Donockley (born 30 May 1964) from Workington, Cumberland, UK. He is the second non-Finnish member of the band, but he is less prominent. He has performed with many artists as a session player and is most notable as a member of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, which he has performed with since 2007 and joined full-time in 2013. singer). Until then, he only came on stage for special effects moments. Troy is a multi-instrumentalist and composer, best known for his playing of Uilleann pipes. [Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_Donockley] In 1987 he formed the Celtic rock band 'You Slosh', with whom he recorded 'Glorious Racket' in 1989. musician with the Celtic folk band Iona. This was at the beginning of the boom in Celtic folk bands, and both ventures were very successful. Donockley recorded another album with You Slosh in 1991, plus nine more albums with Iona. He officially joined the group in 1995 and left the band in 2009. Máire Brennan, a member of the most famous Celtic folk group Clannad, called on Donockley to become a session musician on 'Two Horizons'. In 1999, Donockley recorded 'Our Kate' on Kathryn Tickell's 'Debatable Lands' album, contrasting two types of pipes with her; she plays the Northumbrian smallpipes. Together with Adrian Edmondson, Donockley founded the band The Bad Shepherds in 2008, which performed punk and new wave classics on folk instruments. After the conclusion of the Imaginaerum World Tour, Donockley became a full-time member of Nightwish in October 2013. He plays various instruments within the band, including the pipes and whistles, as well as bouzouki and electric and acoustic guitars. He also uses the E-Bow on some songs. He provides lead vocals for Nightwish's single 'Harvest', released in 2020, one of only two songs on the album without frontwoman Floor Jansen on lead vocals. Since Marko left the band, he sometimes takes over his singing part.

that was one killer performance a band that is so multi layered with all the sounds and symphonic elements and they are progressive metal
Fun fact for you guys. This song is inspired by the 5th book in Stephen Kings Dark Tower Series, "The Wolves of the Calla". Tuomas is a huge King fan. Any fellow Constant Readers that are Nightwish fans?
This song is f*cking epic! Never get bored of hearing this but I can say that about anything Floor Marko and Nightwish do. 😍
Yeah dudes, Nightwish back.
I enjoy this channel a lot.
Hearing Troy on Uilleen Pipes is a must! My Walden, for example, and Give Me Back my Tears
So great.
Glad you have seen sixth band member multi instrumentalist Troy Donockley from England. He has played with Nightwish on a few of their albums but joined full time at the same time as Floor mid 2013. You will see him on pipes, whistles, guitars as well as the bouzouki in this song.
That is actually an Irish Bouzouki adapted from the Greek one but changed for the Irish folk musicians preferences: flatter soundbox and therefore bigger to compensate lack of volume, because the traditional pear shaped Bouzouki's soundbox takes some getting used to for people playing standing which is more common in Irish bands and different tuning as in Irish music is used more for accompaniment arpeggios and less for solos.
great reaction guys like it! next Chost river Wacken 2013! thanks!!
I'm glad you did "7 Days To The Wolves". I had posted that after your review of Romanticide. We all knew you'd love it.
It's amusing to see pics of him from back then since he doesn't have the beard and doesn't look right.
powerful song love it
Islander live at tampere 💪
Uhh this is a favorit of mine, i love Floors heavy tone
Here's some info on Troy:
Troy plays:
Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, pump organ, bouzouki (NOT mandolin though no doubt he plays that too as he plays mandola(, cittern, bodhrán, mandola, harmonium, aerophone
Troy on the pipes: ("please learn the setlist" documentary):
"You have to be slightly insane to play them. They're not easy."
Tuomas told me he'd been working on "The Eyes of Sharbat Gula" for a while without really hitting the mark.
TUOMAS on touring with Troy:
We start preparing about 30 minutes before the show [New York Hammerstein 2915], each of us in his or her own way.
Listen to Gethsemane Live with Floor, one of my favorites...thanks
Floor singing that at Rock in Rio, made me worship her. Not an easy song at all.
Nightwish army California subscribing.
Emppu throws picks constantly. I was lucky enough to get one when they toured in the US in 2022. Best night. I'd love to see your reaction to Ever Dream from Wacken 2013.
Thanks
🤩👍💥💯🎼
🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
In: Your's is a empty hope is Floor growling like.....⚡⚡⚡
TROY ! yeah 😁 (Irish Bouzouki ... and everything else on other tracks. Master of the Uilleann Pipes)
if you really wanna hear Kai play, check out Wintersun.
Floor vocally at her peak, at the same level as in her Revamp time, only less raw❤
Correct.
AFAIK Jukka is effectively the band's CEO.
For a next NW reaction I vote for Song of Myself.
For Wintersun choose the "Time" live rehearsals at Sonic Pump Studios.
Tuomas’ vision being realized was the best singer he could possibly have sing his songs…..
🤗🍒🤘🏻 well done
Its a bouzouki. Not a Mandolin. Yes Troy is the 6th member. He joined round the same time as Floor. He plays many different instruments such as bouzouki, pipes, flutes, whistles. guitar, and sings. And musicians pausing during a solo. Whats this world coming to....
In your video time stamp 12.25.. Floor’s voice 😯❤️🔥 How many can do that ❤️❤️
Yes, Wintersun is definitely recommended. Look out for the song Sons of Winter and Stars at Sonic Pump Studios - my favourite.
Irish buzuki never heard ov it, becaurse its Greek insument😂
@@jimGotland Google "Irish bouzouki".
Marko is an amazing singer. You should react to Marko singing Wings of Darkness from 1982 .Troy and Floor were official in 2013 after Wacken. Love Floor's Owl Tattoo
more great harmonics in not so popular requested songs:
-weak fantasy 2015 Tampere
-endless forms most beautiful 2015 Tampere
EFMB is the title track from the 2015 album and live performed an absolute kick-ass song
Green Jelly? I remember a Song called Three little Pigs of them, right? Greetings from Germany. 😃
It's not a mandolin it's a bozouki
try to spell it right than if you r trying to school someone!!
I'll point out that mischief Emppu is scheming with Troy.
TROOOOYYYYYYY!!!!!! It's been a day, so I'm sure you know all about Troy by now, just like you know it's a bouzouki, not a mandolin. But. TROOOOOYYYYYY!!!!!
That's Troy...
The Islander Rock in Rio ft Tony Kakko Tuomas's bff and Maestro of Sonata Arctica.
Someone decribed the difference between Jukka and Kai as the difference between Star wars Sith lord and Jedi master. They both are brilliant, just different styles.
If you do the windmill correct you can actually help limber up the neck
kai is druming hes from wintersun troy play pipes and bouzouki sometime with ebow
The chorus is not a duo as Troy also pitches in with the vocals.
Nice reaction but I had 5 commercials run through it. Too much.
It’s not a mandolin, Troy is playing a Irish bouzouki here.
Greek not Irish
@@jimGotland No, a Greek Bouzouki is smaller! Troy plays a Irish Bouzouki made by Fylde in England!
Greek made in England "just make you feel good and utterly happy, how about that"🤪
@@obud3777 Buzuki's comes in different sizes and octaves, like orchesteral strings and Rus Ballalike's. At least what my blurry memorie's from Rhodos holydays in the 70-ties
😁🇫🇮💙🪄🎼✨💯🤘 ☀️
never interrupt Emppu's solo again!!
You want to hear what the drummer Kai Hahto is capable of, listen to his primary band " Wintersun". This stuff is really hard and Kai drums like crazy there. ua-cam.com/video/Tl5T-glTdXw/v-deo.html
Please, please don’t interrupt a guitar solo. And please don’t pause so much. You interrupt the flow of the live performance.
14:15
Is this a reaction if you have already heard it? No it's not
4:09 to skip all the bs
NEVER SEEN LEAD GUITAR ? ORIGINAL MEMBER FROM WORD GO , HMMMM, MAYBE NEED TO GO TO SPEC - SAVERS !
I know I'm going to get so much hate but this is a watered down version. I actually prefer the original with Annette on this song.
🇬🇧 Norfolk strapped in “ Wembley let’s go !” 😊
OK...if you ask if they got a new member, you obviously don`t know the band!!! FAIL!!!
