Chain restaurants suck and family owned supper clubs are real and genuine. Bar tenders are known to have their customers drinks waiting on the bar as they walk in.
The late great Smoky's in Madison, WI. Greatly missed by many.
I have not heard the term, “supper club” in years or since I was a kid. My father used to talk about the time when these supper clubs were everywhere.

Supper clubs also have a link to racial exclusion and unionism, in the 60’s many trade unions such as the firefighters brotherhood used such “supper clubs” to hold business dinners that excluded similar employees of color in the same department from such business events. In Commission Decision No. 74-25, CCH Employment Practices Guide ¶ 6400, the Commission found that employee "Supper Clubs" which excluded Blacks were discriminatory. In that situation, White firemen on a shift contributed money to purchase food which cooked communally, and the Black firemen were excluded from participation
I sure hope that’s going to change. These supper clubs should be for everybody. Not just for a few people.
