@@vincam2628 it was a Halloween party happening and in order to get to like the "main" part of the party people had to walk though this narrow alley and ppl were walking in both directions. it got so crowded bc nobody knew what was going on in the middle of the alley and they were pushing to get down to the party or to leave the party and everyone was squished to the point where you can only see their head and shoulders - it was a couple hundred people in this small alley and peoples chest started to get crushed from all the pushing, people got stuck in the middle of the alley not being able to move at all with barely any room to breath so they ended up losing conscious, passing out and unfortunately losing their lives bc of the crowd serge

So, me and my auntie (we’re Korean) both go on yearly trips together, to Itaewon. This year my auntie brought her friend. At the time I was still inside my aunties house, and she was out with her friend; in the crowded streets. But, when she came home she was crying, and she wasn’t with her friend. Apparently, while they were trying to get home it was to crowded, and her friend died of suffocation. 😔 May Auntie kwon-lee (my aunts friend) rest in peace.

He’s younger, korean and barely had any memories of the bombing being on TV.
I had this feeling of absolute dread as people started to shove and push. (I tried to tell myself I was panicking)
Months after he brought it up that he knew something was about to happen when he turned around to find me , even thought we were holding hands , and I was also holding onto his arm as well, he looked down (we have a pretty big height difference - nearly 30cm ) he knew, just by our eyes meeting. We would have died in there.
He had to pick me up and out of that crowd. Our friends weren’t so lucky.

Last weekend something similar happened in my country, but in a smaller scale.
There was a soccer match and a lot of people couldn't get inside the stadium (over sold tickets), the gates were close and just a couple of doors were opened to let a lot (idk how many tbh) of people get inside.
Everybody started pushing and the people in front of the gates were getting crushed, and they had no other option than to take down the gate.
Police saw the disturb and started to pepper spray the crowd 😢 which made everything even worse.
12 people died on that night at the stadium, and around a hundred were transported to different hospitals, many of them in critical state.
This situation could be prevented but was also expected, because many events are hosted there and there's a couple of times when the crowd and bad event management nearly caused a tragedy like that.
This night finally happened, oversold tickets, bad management, lack of order culture and more. People bring their children there; a lot of people are already drunk before the game even starts. Maybe is because I'm not a fan of going to stadiums or games but is disgusting the level of mess some (not all, must clarify) people do in and around the stadium when the principal teams play.
As far as I know, those 12 are adults, but there's rumors that kids are part of those 12 deaths (haven't read anything else since yesterday).

People are pointing fingers in all directions starting from the classic victim blaming “It’s always crowded in Itaewon this time of year, why go?” to “This was bound to happen one day or another, those alleys are way too narrow.” But personally I believe it was the government’s responsibility to dispatch more traffic organizers and police beforehand. Higher ups were too focused on “catching drug dealers” whatever that means. All the police force were sent to clubs to look for drugs and shit instead of out on the streets to guide the crowd like they did in previous years. Just shame and stupid decision everywhere :/

@@GreenGoblin9 the government didn't anticipated that people would be foolish enough to make a enjoying event into tragedy. If people would have left some space in between or rather form a line which usually is the best option this wouldn't have happened. Don't blame the government for everything. Become a responsible and sensible citizen instead. If you think carefully the situation could have been solved in just few minutes if applied a correct method. By the way the government could have helped that's true too but no one really anticipated that too. It was a tragic incident from which everyone should learn from. RIP🙏

@@animegeek9924 LOL "the government didn't anticipated that people would be foolish enough." Dude what on earth are you talking about??
Itaewon has always been crowded around Halloween since the 2000's, and there were never any problems because police officers and government officials made sure to increase security and staffing during that time of the year. This year specifically, president Yoon advised his officials to use that man power to "catch underground drug traffic" and thus there were not enough policing and guidance like there were the previous years. This stuff was all over the Korean news and our current president is a borderline lunatic, of course I'm going to blame the government tf.
It was not just a "tragic accident,' this was a case of miscalculation and bad leadership.

    • @Averiiie
      @Averiiie Рік тому +2

      It’s not that simple.
All the people there were going going to go to itaewon to celebrate Halloween or just because their home was nearby. Because the alleyway was a easy way and a popular way to get into itaewon many went through the alleyway. Due to both the people leaving and entering at the same time it caused a massive crowd surge. And before you judge the people going in. Many didn’t know that there was a crowd surge in the alleyway when entering and many also weren’t trying to go through the alleyway but we sucked in by the massive crowd.
It’s really easy and stupid to say that they shouldn’t have went in when you don’t know anything about the situation.
