Some may disagree with me here, but after watching countless early to late 1970's television shows over the last 10 years, I have to say that Silvestri's scores for CHiPs encompass the disco era more than any other TV score of the period. These scores are almost the defining instrumentals for the entire mid-late 1970's - period.
Silvestri’s BGM for this show CHANGED MY LIFE. The man INVENTED the genera! To many of us, watching this daily, on KTLA, there was nothing better then the double episides, shown every day around 10 am . ,,, then twilight zone at noon!
At high speed they were like dragging a billboard through the air though, with a lot of wind noise. Even the more streamlined Aerodynics and Jetsonics were a noticeable drag at three digit speeds, but they were an improvement. Unfortunately we couldn't run slick tops, so I liked the Code 3's best of any pre-LED bar. A Code 3 on a 9C1 Caprice LT1 was about as good as it got.

Very well put together. It was not too often they were seen with their heavy winter jackets. Great sound track. I have CHiPs Vol 1 on CD and I blast it out when in my car. Great 70s thump.

For the times, it was an AMAZING show. Mostly ALL shot on location. Compaired to happy days, or lavern and Shirley, or taxi,, [ shows that would of been its contemporaries] What else even comes close? Fantasy island or MAYBE? Ill admit, its NO Rockford files,,, but besides that, What other show of the era, documented socal in the late 70s so well?
The original theme to this is from season 3, "Return of the Supercycle," the episode they filmed around Erik Estrada's accident which put him in the hospital and was sidelined for several episodes.
I remeber his accident well,, and how they added it to the story,, rofl.. I forgot about that, untill i read your comment,, i watched these first run, and then on reruns, when i was young, it was my jam!

Yeah, swing it. That was a good episode, it was about a woman that lost her home and a cop about to be retired. THen there was a father in Las Vegas trying to get his kid illegally that Ponch put the night stick on the plane's wing to stop it from leaving LA. Wonder what the father in Las Vegas did?
I noticed the Sargent & Ponch were in tbis scene but who was the other officer and which episode was this in Chips. And it never fails the Sargents always took the credit for any good deed Jon or Ponch did, and the way it came across in the episodes it seems he was bais at times towards Erik.. ..this is my opinion and what i thought i saw.

Continuity error! LOL! Compare the on ramp at 1:26 to the ramp at 1:43. Someone forgot to remove the "Road Closed" signs for the section of freeway they were using to film the scene, still under construction at the time.
If you were to do a search. You would see that where they are ridding that close to each other. Both bikes are actually on a two bike trailer. With several cameras mounted rite in fro t of them.
