No, this isn't the latest craze in healthfood...smart chips are tiny pieces of digital content that you can use to make your documents rich with information.

I don't have a classroom.... BUT I'M DEFINITELY GOING TO USE THESE SMART CHIPS!
It's great, too, that you don't need to leave the doc and have multiple new tabs opened to view the attached files. The preview window can be resized and expanded and opened in a tab if needed.
I saw the update but I wasn’t sure how to “turn it on” again. But I’m excited. Thanks for the tips!

Currently only in docs, but I would expect that to change at some point.

Type @ and then the name of your file.
Hi John, when I type the @ symbol I'm getting suggestions, including contacts, files and dates, but as I keep typing to search for a file in Drive, for example, it only shows results from searching the contacts for my school district. What am I missing? (besides the Drive search results I'm looking for... haha)
Yes, it can be tough to tag a document, especially if it's an old one. Google seems to only recommend documents you have recently edited.
Sometimes I have to open the document and make a small change before it will show up in the smart chip search box.
How do students get notifications of being tagged if they do not have email access in our Google Education Suite?
A little icon will appear on the file when viewed from drive.
But honestly, most of the tagging occurs during class, while the students are working on the file.
I am trying to create a document that I can assign in Google Classroom, but has people chips in it, so that the students would be able to have the chips already connected to those people. Is this possible? Thank you for the video!
Yes, the people chips will be in the copies made by Google Classroom.
