    Despite some initial hesitation, I did this with my classes and it’s been THE fix to the lagging speeds.

    Thank you again, John, for making this. One other "tip" for those with multiple sections of the same course: Make one new classroom with all reference materials, etc. you want to carry over,, then make a "copy" that class. Then all you need to do is rename the class, and "post" the reference materials, etc.

    • @jrsowash
      @jrsowash  3 роки тому +1

      Yep, this is a good tip. Saves a lot of time if you have several sections of the same class. 👏🏼

    ELA teachers, here is another reason to start a new class each grading period. Google Classroom provides 5 assignment originality checks ( plagiarism check) for free in each Classroom. When you start a new class, you will have the ability to check 5 more assignments. If you are on qtrs., like I am, that takes you from 5 free checks a year to 20.

    You can Change each Category to Quarter 1, Quarter 2... Then weight the quarter you want the total grade for to 100% , and the other quarters to 0%. Then do show weighted grade. At quarter 3 just change quarter 3 to weighted 100%. So now kids can see their quarter grade without having to start a new google classroom.

    I teach 4th grade ELA and SS to two different periods. Unlike high school, each period is the exact same content. So, is it far fetched for me to put all 50 some kids in one GC? Especially if I did this method of a new classroom each 9 weeks to help with the lagging issue? I am doing blended learning and use a lot of hyperdoc/Google Site type ways to link to assignments. And I'm finding that I have to create two of everything so that I can link to each separate class. It just occurred to me that it might be easier if they were all in one. Am I crazy?

    Hi, John! Here, in Argentina, we're beginning a brief and last marking period just for those students who haven't passed the assessments. For example, I've used a Google class from March to November with the whole group. Now, I'm continuing to work with half of them.
    I was wondering if it's convenient to invite the ones who finished to leave the classroom or to create a new one for those who have not passed. Especially, I think it will be useful for those who passed to continue to have access to the classroom if they need to during the next year.
    So, I thought the best deal was archiving the whole class (if that guaranteed access to materials for all my students) and creating a new one for the few who need to continue working a couple of weeks more.
    Am I right?

    • @jrsowash
      @jrsowash  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, I would probably create a new class for the students who will be studying during the extra marking period.
      It will be easier for them to find and focus on the assignments they need to complete.
      when you archive your old class students will still have access to the material. But they won't be able to comment or turn anything in.

    John, I like the idea of creating a new class for second quarter, but when I tried to do it the SIS link gave me trouble. Since I connected my class at the beginning of the year, when I try to connect the new class, it doesn't not find an unassigned class for me to connect. Is there a work around for this?

    • @jrsowash
      @jrsowash  3 роки тому

      Yes, if you are linking Google classroom to your school's SIS you may run into trouble.
      you may have to contact the person who manages your SIS and ask them to link your grade book to a different class.

    If you are adding the same code from Q1 to Q2, won't the students still have access to the previous quarter and still be able to finish, update, turn-in and comment on old assignments? How do you prevent a student from doing this?

    • @jrsowash

    • @jrsowash
      @jrsowash  4 роки тому

      Yes, I leave the class archive forever. It serves as a historical record of the work students completed and my conversations with them.

    instead of creating a new classroom for each quarter, we can just remove the assignment after the due date is passed

    • @jrsowash

      I would be cautious with this strategy.
