I love these street food videos!
I do too, I really enjoy seeing the city and the people. The videos in their apartment feel less interesting to me.
Nothing better than HK waffle in the cold of winter! My mom used to buy these for me when I was growing up in NYC. I miss them!
your pronunciation is really good! thank you for making this video! I miss my childhood street food! 💖💖💖
Another awesome video and loved the bloopers ❤
Astounding feats of eating! I've been meaning to try Hong Kong waffles for a while. And those vegetables looked really delicious. Thanks for giving us the tour!
The eggplant, pepper, and sausage looked phenomenal! I really wish I could try it. Maybe someday. The oyster cake looked great as well.
If you live somewhere that does authentic dim sum, they have something similar. Green bell pepper and eggplant stuffed with fish and pan fried. It's topped with a savory black bean sauce. It's delicious.
Shinichi, what a great food tour! All of the food looks so scrumptious! I have had the steamed sugar cake; we can get it here also, and it is very nice. The texture is so interesting! I want to try clay pot rice one day. We have restaurants that serve it here. Thanks to Laurence for being in the video and showing you such great places to eat in Hong Kong! Have a great weekend, everyone! 😊
Oh my goodness what a delightful feast for the eyes! Thank you for taking us along to a place a lot of us will never go to! Laurence is a gem 💎!
welcome to HK..Hope you enjoy the stay and have a great trip
Awesome videos again!!!! :D
Love these streetfood videos!
What a feast! I'm so glad that you had a great time in Hong Kong. Pak tong koh was one of my Lola's (my Grandma who lived to be nearly 106) favorite snacks from any Asian bakery. It is tricky to make at home, but so worth it when it turns out well =) Cheers from Michigan💗
Miss me some Asian dessert so much right now! So great to see you enjoying all the food Shinichi! 😊🙌🏻
Keep up the great work
I LOVE eggdrop waffels. We used to have them in NYC..my childhood favorites, sigh; my dad absolutely loves bai tung gao, I'm okay with it :) I LOVE egg tarts
by the way, in Mandarin, the burnt and sakutto rice at the bottom of the clay pot is called 'guo bao' not sure what it is in Cantonese.
LOVED IT..........
you both are too cute 😍
the way you talk and your body gesture, is very polite.. i mean in a very good way. arggh its hard to decribe 😅
Enjoy it when you guys do the Bloopers....Hope you do it more often....☺👍.....
All the street food is so amazingly yummy!!
Happy to see part 2! Laurence took you on a great tour of street food. So many things looked delicious and the bloopers at the end were funny. Did you get recognized while you were in HK?
I miss Hong Kong! Thank you for this! Laurence (Lawrence?) speaks Cantonese and that makes me happy because that's what I speak! Looks like you had a lot of fun!
It's unfortunate that people are attacking you about eating imitation shark fin soup, despite clearly specifying, many times, in the video that you are. Don't mind them. :) Thank you again for this video! You're very lucky that you get to travel and eat. :) So many people wish they have that kind of opportunity.
I love you two! Great team! And I love food too esp asian food
I love shark fin soup especially the black fungus in it. It's a very expensive soup so we normally order it only for special occasions. That oyster cake looked so yummy. Thanks for the bloopers in the end its so much fun to watch 😂
nhìn đồ ăn thấy ngon quá , nhất là ở đoạn gần cuối đi ăn cơm Tàu có thêm mấy món gì lạ lạ trộn kèm theo cơm mà muốn chảy cả nước miếng ........ ực ực ực
Oh, my, the rice sugar cake looks exactly like the rice cake we used to get from our Chinatown in Philly when I was little...haven’t had so long...(gelatinous texture, not overly sweet back then, my parents & I loved it...)
Will Laurence take me on a HK street food tour, too? 😄 Thanks for adding in the bloopers, a fun video!
Really like the music you had going in the beginning.
Strictly Dumpling went to Hing Kee too! Looks super yummy! :9
wohoo part 2, I'm so happy to watch it it's soooo incredible interesting. the only thing is when it comes down to shark fin soup, I can't forget images from sharks wit cut off fins on the ground, still alive because they throw them back without killing them. but I'm not here to judge it's just stuck in my mind sorry. ohh and beside of that, the street food looks so delicious and exciting, such a complete different world comparing to where I life, just love how you can spend hours there walking and looking around and eating. thank you and Laurence so much for this amazing video ^^/
Plejade he said and write down that it was a FAKE shark fin soup, more than once. That's why it was cheap (Lawrence talked about the price comparison too). Probably next time pay attention to the video carefully before you throw any comments? :D
Plejade, as you said you were happy to watch it, I know you are aware this is imitation shark fin soup. I don't understand why, if they re going to take the fin, why not harvest the whole fish? Shark is delicious.
jahjahjah I know I know, but I did mean it in general. I know he talked specially about how it tastes like real, but isn't, even the texture was like real, I don't mean my commentary to this special episode I'm so sorry that it was so unclear. English isn't my native language i thought "when it comes down to" means everytime I hear or read about it in general, but not specially like in this video I see it, sorry. But anyway I'm not here to judge a kultural thing but I have to say, like you Darian Rose, it woul be much more efficient if they woul use the whole shark, never taste it but I can imagine it tastes good. I meat at least it is a animal like cow or pig you kill anyway, so why not using the whole I mean there is a lot of flesh people can eat from. I hope now it's more clear? and thanks for pointing this out I really appreciate this ^^
darian roscoe It's only the fin that Chinese consumers pay well for. So now, many species of shark are endangered from over-fishing thanks to the shark fin trade.
Faultty well the same with "normal fishing" the bigger the fish is, the more they pay for.
Lawrence is to be commended. He took you to some of the "best" street food places in MongKok. :D I am a transplanted NYC native now living in HK and I personally have been to all of the places in these 2 vids. Here's the kicker - you guys only really scratched the surface. :D
haha, the bloopers made me like the video
Amazing video.. u have a great way of presenting. . I hope one day we make a Vlog together. . Either In Japan or Saudi Arabia 😁😁😁
Lol healthy drink! do you feel healthier? Laurence is so sweet to have taken all over. Looks like you squeezed in SO much on your visit! thanks for !
No offence intended at all. it was more a remark in re: to the cute way Shinichi said healthy drink.
Oh whew! It's so difficult to sense meaning from writing some times. Thank you so much for your help!!!
Great vid!! Curious what the music was playing at the beginning?
the oyster cake is my all time favorite!!
雞蛋仔(ガイターンツァイ)=香港エッグワッフル…美味しいですよねェ😌❤私も大好きです♪出来たては本当に表面サクサクッとしていて…食べたくなって来ました❗(笑)
Hi brother! Hi Laurence!! ❤❤ OH MY GOSH is right!!! Everything you had to eat looked so delicious!! I'm starving now! The Hong Kong style waffle.....sigh......I want!! I went to our local Cherry Blossom Festival last weekend, and had a version of the waffle, only mine had mochi in it, and sadly, it wasn't crispy.
Thanks for sharing your adventures with us! I can't wait to see more!!
Mindy's Mom Hi Mindy's Mom! It all looked so amazing, right? Wow! 😊 Hope you had fun at the Cherry Blossom Festival! 🌸
Erin Uber!! Hi!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ How are you doing? The festival was fun--quite a few street food vendors. It took place in the parking lot of our local Japanese market, so it was hard to imagine that we were at a "Cherry Blossom" festival. LOL! I'll take it though.... it was better than nothing.....
Mindy's Mom Hi Mindy's Mom! 😃 it may be less than ideal to have a Cherry Blossom Festival in the store parking lot, but I think it would still be fun! We have a Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco's Japantown every spring. One of these years I want to go! 🌸
+Erin Uber...... Hi Erin! That sounds beautiful! I seem to remember J-town in LA, having Cherry Blossom festivals back in the day. They still have Nisei Week every August. That's a cool week-long festival.
Mindy's Mom Nisei Week sounds so great! I think we are so fortunate to live in parts of the country near Japantowns...I wish there were even more.
thanks for including the bloopers. funny.
oh look...a cute guy. lol🐙
Would love to try the eggplant dish. Looks very good.
Anyone know of a recipe online for the mock shark find soup?
Also, thank you so much fir the HK food tour. So much fun!😋
I enjoy the real bloopers side!!! !🤣
How fun, you guys! Nice waffle! I'm curious about the red sausage...was it like a char-siu? In Hawaii, there's red hotdogs that have a garlic flavor to it. Was is like that?
Lawrence seems like a lot of fun to hang out with... :-)
what camera ate you using when the camera is close to your face?
I love Hong Kong and I love Monkok and I love street food.
HOLA.....MUY BUENOS VIDEOS....ME AGRADAN...
I would love to try street foods!
the white sugar cake looked amazing!
i think the vinegar won me over. 😉🐧
penguin chick if you live somewhere that does dim sum you might be able to find it.
It’s actually yeast that gives it that sour flavor, not vinegar. The yeast ferments the batter before baking to give it that distinctive honeycomb pattern and sourness. If you’ve ever had sweet rice wine, it’s a bit like that.
Really miss the egg waffles, very interesting fake shark fin soup!
屋台も楽しいけど最後の店の混ぜ飯が美味そうだった
street food is life hahahaha, want to go Hong Kong too and add that food experience in my content!
What was the name and location of the clay pot rice restaurant?
Was it filmed in Nathan road?
Hi Lawrence. Thank you for being a good friend to our Shin-chan.
Omg you should have tried what your friend had at dessert shop if you never had sago before
..
I am really interested in that black sesame dessert, especially with the silken tofu. Are there any places online that have it and will ship to the U.S.?
I highly doubt that because of the different food regulations, especially from china.
Thanks for the information!
@7:45 looked good!!!!!!
💚💚 street food
This was published on my birthday ☺☺☺
Happy birthday David!
Now I wanna go to pacific mall and eat HK styled waffles!!! Any Torontonians here??
Did shinichi say a location was located in yawate ??
I'm in Mississauga, but I've been to Pacific Mall. Too bad it is a bit of a trek to get up there from where I am.
you two are adorable, love these videos! and you're as bad as my fiance and I when a hot guy walks by! XD
I'm so glad you ate fake shark fin soup. I was saddened when I thought it was real shark fin.
Go swim with the sharks and tell them how that makes you feel.
Jamie Eveler copy pasta that comment
o stfu already. u fuckers are so fake. stop pretending to give a shit.
Is that eggplant stuffed with something? If yes, what is the stuffing?
+kevin007515 it's stuffed with fishcake. Very tasty.
Whether it's homemade or in Hong Kong, it tastes so good. Fish paste stuffed into foods like tofu puffs, eggplants, or pepper bells, then fried.
I want to go to China now!!
For Americans that are curious, 1 usd is about 7.80 hkd. so $40 hkd is $5 usd. Basically, the same shit. Hot pot for $5 is normal.
Phillip Arpin Thank you for explaining the exchange rate. i thought...$20 usd for soup!?🐙
aww... too bad u didnt capture a shot of the cute guy walkin by...
i regret to try those street food, when i visited hong kong 😱
I wanna eat clay pot rice now D:
i miss those sugar rice cakes it is no longer made in NY
When he says "10 dollars" does he mean Hong Kong dollars?
Yes Hong Kong dollars.
$10 Hong Kong dollar equal to USD $1.30 to 1.50 .
I love Chinese sweet soy sauce!
😆
Dearies - it's not clear rice noodles. That's mung bean noodles.
Please look into EricSurf6!!!! He's near you guys, and would love to see you do a Collab with him! :)
I’m disappointed in Lawrence. Vinegar, really? White sugar cake is a traditional Chinese dessert and I would expect he would know that the sourness comes from yeast. Vinegar isn’t an ingredient at all. That sort of fermented rice flavor is pretty distinct.
Shark fin soup shouldn't be eaten. Unless they are using the whole shark. I mean to cut the fins of & let it drown... cruel in my opinion. So glad you ate the fake one
Same could be said about the intestine etc that many people do not eat from the chicken or any animal. It's a sort of respect to eat the animal which has given it's life to feed us .
really dissapointed that you have both eaten shark fin :(
Jemima Wise they didn't it's the fake version.
those are glass noodles in the shark fin soup ...
Shinichi, I really hope you didn't ate the black burned rice from the clay pot rice. 😧 The rice suppose to be crunchy and brown colored like dolsot bimbimbap but not black ... 😓 yikes! 😱
At 10:12 you said "well I finally had....ban jow" in Cantonese "ban jow" means penis
haha that's childish, but funny Lol
We call them bubble waffles here. Hey both of you guys I was told that people in Japan and China would call me fat to my face even though I'm not but I am a woman with broad shoulders and I am very tall. My fiance is Chinese and lives there still because I want to move there but not until my mother passes away. He lives in dongguan City though where it is hot all year round. I would rather live in x i a n where it gets cold in the winter. If Lawrence has any advice or either of you have any advice please let me know I am open to advice always! He tells me to eat more Donuts because he wants me to be heavier! I can't afford a plane ticket right now to China but he said he would give me the money when I got there because in China you can't send the money out of the country. Is that true? I have known him for 8 years and have never known him to lie.
$250-$300 for a shark fin soup?? Are those HK$? No wonder they are fishing all of our sharks to extinction here in Costa Rica! >:(
+scotianbank Hong Kong dollars yes.
i knew it,...
you are Jackie Chan
Mickey Chen looks more like Jackie chan. He has several youtube channels. He could seriously be Jackie Chan's stunt double.
I love reading all the self-righteous comments freaking out about shark fin soup when they are eating the FAKE version. Keep commenting while you eat your 32 oz factory raised steak, and typing on your mobile phone made by Chinese wage slaves.
Let's be clear, I'm not promoting the eating of shark fins, the opposite actually. it's a cruel trade. But they're not eating or promoting the real stuff.
True, we are all guilty of benefitting from some form of exploitation or taking advantage of a convenience with dubious origins. What I and others objected to is not that they ate fake shark fin soup but the manner in which they discussed it in comparison to the real thing. It might have been an opportunity to decry the consumption of shark fin as it is a heinous, archaic act to cut off the fin and leave the shark for dead. With a popular UA-cam channel comes some responsibility to encourage others to be better stewards of our planet.
Sure, they could they use their channel to talk about the environmental impact of the food they are eating. But honestly, they are under no obligation to do so. It's their channel about travel and food. That's why we all subbed, i'm assuming, because we are interested in their food and travel reviews. If they started preaching about how all the food they're eating is bad for the environment, then they'd appeal to less people.
At the end of the day, in my opinion, you're expecting too much from UA-cam entertainers. We don't even get pissed off when our politicians lie through their teeth to us but you want a pair of UA-camrs to publicly denounce shark fin soup.
I for one didn't even know that there was a "fake" version of shark fin soup. And now that I know, i'm more inclined to try it. So maybe they did some good afterall.
Anyway, cheers for a polite discussion. Have a great day :)
+James W Well said. I appreciate your point of view and the way you articulated it. Best Regards!
Just chicken soup with shredded chicken, eggs, mushrooms, and vermicelli noodle--In Hong Kong street food, we called in Shark Fin Soup--the faked one, LoL
People say "Lawrence looks like Jackie Chan" No, Mikey Chen looks like Jackie Chan, go to his channel and you will see, Lawrence looks like the dude from the Hangover.
I'm glad you didn't eat the real shark fin soup because sharks are becoming endangered and the way they are caught and there fins cut off and the rest of the animal thrown back in the ocean is just evil.
Shark fin is cruel
purberri it's banned now hence fake shark fin
purberri Yes. that's why they ate FAKE shark fin soup :)
It's not why they ate fake shark fin soup. They ate the fake shit because it's literally 10% the price of real shark fin soup.
They've both eaten the real deal though. They were saying how much they like it. They've both participated in this cruel, ecosystem destroying practice, and they're both fine with having done so.
purberri Shinichi comments about how it tastes like real shark fin. I don't know why he'd make that comment unless he'd eaten it personally. I do see a difference between my occasional eating of ethically slaughtered cattle, and someone eating the fin off of an endangered species, where the rest of the shark was kicked back into the sea. I don't eat any endangered species, fish, shark or mammal. I don't use rhino horn. I also don't approve of dog pit fights, which were also once part of my culture. Nor of invading other people's countries and subjugation of the inhabitants, which was also part of my culture once, and in fact was kinda how Hong Kong was conceived currently. Just because it's a cultural norm doesn't make it sacred. I disapprove of child marriage, female genital mutilation and eating shark fin. I'm not going to bust up someone's marriage ceremony to stop any of those three practices happening, but I still disapprove of all three.
Okay glad to know it is fake. I hope it actually is.
Well, if it's real, I don't think it'll be that cheap.....
Ellen Brennan big deal I eat the real deal
he is so creepy like he is staring right into my soul
SoneDiadem your hungry hungry soul.
what? No you are clearly mistaken how is he creepy? They are such humble people
"Vegetarian loose translation of Native Americans for bad hunter".
why would she put the egg waffles on the pot handle like that. gross.
other than that, yay part deux~
P.S. why does fake shark fin soup look like hot and sour soup.
it is street food 🤔
Poornima Krishnan still unsanitary though. you would never see that in Japan! I'm surprised shinichi ate it #refinedtastebuds
Plejade I guess :-/ it's just weird to me because I've never seen it before.
Ana Santana she need the handle to form a bending shape...I don't know 🤷🏻♀️
It's just used to make a cone shape of the waffle. Once it slightly cools it stays in that shape better. All egg waffle places use some sort of tool to hang the egg waffle to keep it in that shape. If you think that's gross, you clearly haven't been to the night markets in south or east asia such as thailand, vietnam etc. Especially less developed countries. Fake shark fin soup looks like hot and sour soup because that's the way it is. They're both thickened the same way and have similar ingredients besides the shark fin.
disappointed in your choice of Shark Fin soup even if it is fake. ..
Andrea James I agree. I'm very disappointed as well. Very sad....
Andrea James would you be disappointed if they ate veggie burgers? I don't get your mentality. they are already eating the alternative, what's wrong with that?
James W You seem to have completely missed her point. If "veggies" were an endangered item then yes, it would be the same thing. But veggies (tofu or whatever veggie burgers are made of) are not in danger of bwcoming extinct. They don't have a huge, vital part of their body cut off while they're alive & then left to suffer & die.
@@shannonrichmond1257 Over reaction! They did not eat shark fin !!!!
How can you so casually talk about eating endangered species? Do you talk so casually about eating rhino horn too?
Kind of disappointing that you nonchalantly compared your fake shark fin soup to the real thing considering how awful the practice of obtaining the shark fin is.
Go swim with the sharks and tell them how you feel.
+Jamie Eveler Sharks already know cutting off their fins is bad, wise guy.
E Pea Shark fin soup is why such a large proportion of all sharks on earth are endangered, so yes, sharks and environmentally friendly people hate shark fin soup.
I haven't heard a single one complain about it EVER.
But of course I hunt to provide food for my family, and will continue to hunt. It's not like I go out and kill animals just because I can, I only do it when there is an over population of deer (yes it does happen) and when we need food.
Guys! You should never eat shark fin soup. Didn't you know that they cut the fins off the sharks while they are alive and leave them to founder in the sea and starve to death because they can no longer swim? I stopped watching the video as soon as you described the soup. I love you guys, but this is just wrong.
They had fake shark fins soup. No actual shark fin in there - just glass noodles!
Paying attention is natural of sober people.
They discussed how they've both eaten the real thing, and how they'd like to eat it again. I believe that's what upset Ellen, not watching it happen.
Ellen Brennan My apologies, they only say they have eaten it, and the fake stuff tastes like the real thing, and that they like the fake stuff. Not that they want to eat more real shark fin.
If you notice the sign for the soup said "MOCK SHARP FIN SOUP". No one is suppose to sell real shark fin soup, if they did, No one should order it. Black market likely.
really dissapointed that you have both eaten shark fin :(
Jemima Wise they didn't. its the fake version. can't you read? or hear?
