Because no-one wants to believe that the person they love, or the person they think they've got figured out or even they themselves are suffering from severe psychological illness. Except Dr Charles because he's seen it too many times to be able to fool himself anymore.
I think every loved one of someone suffering from a persistent psychological condition basically is thinking: *Just get better already!* However, it rarely works that way. For Connor the problem was compounded by the fact that he's a surgeon. To be able to function, a surgeon needs a certain degree of arrogance to pursue the solution they've determined is necessary no matter how severe or urgent the situation - To believe in themselves and that they can save their patient. It's just that this mindset carried over into an area where he has no expertise. I think that Dr Charles would have been happier if Connor had done some research and could reassure him that he was aware of Robyn's condition, challenges and the regime he had to work with to protect Robyn. It really is. I have schizophrenia. And right now im managing it well, but the times i cant are hell. One of the tools i use is reality/fact checking. Where i ask someone i trust in the room if they are experiencing the same thing i am. Because when one thing isnt real, i start to question if anything around me is real. But its still important that i fact check. Because then i can get help
I think that he just doesn't want to admit that his partner has a psychiatric illness because of the things that come with it. It's hard for some family and romantic partners to cope with the fact that their loved ones need this type of medical attention. Love the way they potraited it.
I know I’m like a 100 years later but I think he did know she had this issues but after not being able to help and Safe his mother (since he was a kid) he wanted to proof he can safe her. Sounds like he never really got over his mothers death and not being able to do anything against it. Probably Connor should see dr. Charles too
Haha I also was like okay at first when she appeared but then I thought it was kinda obvious by the way he looked at Connor as they started dating. It was a typical: don’t hurt my girl kind of look 😂
They didn’t at least discharge her with some medicine? 9:29 she was fine because she had had her frikking medicine you dolt. What kind of doctor are you? 😤
Rilo4466 1 dose of rispirdal is not enough, antipsychotics alleviate symptoms sometimes quickly yes but they have a half life, antipsychotics need to be continued for longer periods such as 4-6 weeks to take full effect, in some cases then it can be re-evaluated and it can be determined if this is a psychotic disorder which may require long term antipsychotic medications.
Not to mention they don’t know what’s wrong it could have been anything from stroke trama to an offset of schizophrenia you need time to develop a safe and effective medication plan and that didn’t happen
Haven't they learned to listen to Dr Charles after all the years together, like seriously? His duty is to read people and see what's going on mentally. He if anyone should be qualified to tell what's best for her and he's one of the people licenced to do so. They should know by now that if he sees something, they should listen to it. And this episode just solidifies that he don't allow it to become personal, even if what he does will make the person hate him. As long as it's the best course of action for the patient, he'll do it.

@@markrowe2828 as an assistant who retired before you ever became a proper psychologist i dont know if i can trust you and personally as someone who has countless hour with psychiatrists - he as a parent only has rights over the child until they turn of age then its up to the patient to decide who picks them up and signs them out - in conjunction with the hospital - if they deem you a treat to yourself or others then they can hold you but her psychosis never displayed itself as life threatening until after her forced tumultuous stay within the hospital and interaction with her estranged father; in fact he has no right to do anything as a parent now. And the ending was out of nowhere and there were no signs that it would lead to such ends especially because she had started medication which she herself said had stop the cliched and stereotypical rat scratching hallucinations... the only thing in my mind that could set of such a psychosis in that moment was her shitty dad and his rather arcane approach to mental illness which only goes to show how superficial the writers understanding of mental health really is and really how inept even people like you who are apart of the crap system. this shows interpretation of a manic episode is even worse but movies are even worse the psychologist and psychologist are just bumbling fools grasping at straws not qualified enough to even prescribe anything.
I love Rhodes with al my heart but he really pissed me of in this one!! He almost got her killed by questioning Charles and getting her out of there. Poor Charles
It hurt during the scene where Dr. Charles was saying "im so sorry" when he was going to bring his daughter up to the psych ward. Ive had that experience. I was so scared and in reality they were trying to help but it felt like they just lead me to the slaughter.
Wheeliebins United Robin is the biggest brat in the series. Her father always saves her from her stupidity; bought her a fancy condo; and likely put her into the best schools.
I truly admire Dr. Charles for not knocking out Rhodes. That kind of self control, after Rhodes put Robin's life at risk, I would have landed a solid liver punch at the very least.
My question is how did Connor manage to save Robin from the balcony 6:08 I love dr Reese’s face and that dr’s face while Connor and Daniel are fighting
Yeah true 😅 also As she attacks him with the broom he steps into glass and never ever anyone talked about it. Same with a few episodes later when he cuts his finger with a knife starting to show symptoms of his lack of sleep and personal stress combined with working. You never see this again and no one ever talks about it again. Like come on don’t start a storyline you’re not gonna end 😅
I honestly feel bad for rhodes. He’s clearly blinded by love and what she wants , pushing aside the fact that he knows she’s crazy and needs proper care. He loves her too much to tell her what is good for her isn’t what she thinks.
Honestly yes. I was sad for him too. But I think it was more over the combination of having troubles with his own father and not being able to safe his mother when he was a kid. I think he loves Robin but just tries to safe her after he failed with his mother (which was obvious since he was a kid). Haha this show kinda makes me feel I need to get Connor into therapy 😂
Why? His decision wasn't made in a professional capacity, it was personal. His decisions over his psychotic girlfriend have nothing to do with his job as a surgeon.
There is one unwritten rule in life Always listen to dr Charles Just do it Even if the show gets manic and psychotic episodes mixed up Listen to dr Charles
Dr. Charles is such a loving and carrying father😘 I think everyone wishes to have a father like that❤️ I do have to say that my dad is the same💙 Love him.
I hate how so many people think they can handle their, or their loved ones' mental issues as if they are just a small hurdle in the way. Take phobias for example, so many people think phobias are the same as fear, not understanding that it is a DEBILITATING fear. Telling phobic people to "just get over it". Mental issues are so complex that we barely know anything about them now let alone 100 years ago. So what makes you an expert?!
But we gotta say, love you Conner but Daniel's right, even if he is overprotective, you don't know what's going to happen next, she could be suicidal the next morning, putting her in a ward is like the safest thing, and them Conner just thinks he's being overprotective because that's his daughter
This episode was very hard for me to watch. As a daughter, I wouldn't go against my father but I understand why Robin did feel like her father was trying to control her. Rhodes was very rude to Charles. Not fair at all.

And when they say no, its helpful because then i know i probably need to take my meds and check in with my therapist soon. But at the same time its really fucking scary. Because when one thing isnt real, i start to question if anything around me is real. But its still important that i fact check. Because then i can get help
Patients do think they're real, that's why they're so bothered by them!
I think that he just doesn't want to admit that his partner has a psychiatric illness because of the things that come with it. It's hard for some family and romantic partners to cope with the fact that their loved ones need this type of medical attention. Love the way they potraited it.
There are a lot of people who don't accept their loved ones' mental disabilities. Making it worse with every passing moment.
I know I’m like a 100 years later but I think he did know she had this issues but after not being able to help and Safe his mother (since he was a kid) he wanted to proof he can safe her. Sounds like he never really got over his mothers death and not being able to do anything against it. Probably Connor should see dr. Charles too
Conner was being so loud oml
Being a bitch.
Charklat ik!!!!!!!!
the moment dr. charles says:
dr. Rhodes!
you know and he knows he's SCREWED!
Man i loved this episode. you can NEVER challenge Dr Charles without him getting some sweet , simple revenge! Dr Charles the OG 👌👏
That girl is crazy.
Never question Dr.Charles.
"I wouldn't use that word."
I am shook...
ROBYN IS HIS DAUGHTER!?
I should have known....
her name is Dr Robyn *CHARLES*
like Dr Daniel *CHARLES*
Haha I also was like okay at first when she appeared but then I thought it was kinda obvious by the way he looked at Connor as they started dating. It was a typical: don’t hurt my girl kind of look 😂
if i saw this ep first from the others i would've been hooked immediately. Dr charles is very balanced human being.
They didn’t at least discharge her with some medicine?
9:29 she was fine because she had had her frikking medicine you dolt. What kind of doctor are you? 😤
if you hear dr rhodes as they enter the hospital he says that she has had 4mg of respiridone... that is her medicine.
What does dolt mean
Rilo4466 1 dose of rispirdal is not enough, antipsychotics alleviate symptoms sometimes quickly yes but they have a half life, antipsychotics need to be continued for longer periods such as 4-6 weeks to take full effect, in some cases then it can be re-evaluated and it can be determined if this is a psychotic disorder which may require long term antipsychotic medications.
@@gabivlogs6342 simply put, a dolt is a stupid person
Dr Charles - what every psychiatrist wants to become
When dr Charles has a hunch it’s almost 101% correct and you can tell when he gets serious
I hate dr Rhodes now
poor Daniel. he deserves better; the man knows what he's talking about
Let’s ignore a professionally trained psychologist because I’m her boyfriend and I know better than anyone
Always listen to Dr. Charles, he is always right.
My mum was pushing our table round while she said can you hear that it's like nails to a chalk board I just can't 😂😂😂😂😂😂
lllooolll
How long till she goes crazy, and BF screws it all up?
Edit: 2 minutes.
I officially hate Rhodes he is the worst man in the world. Dr Charles just wanted to protect his daughter,he never fixed no mess, he made it worst.
Edit: this is 3 months later, I must have been on mah period bc I ❤️ Rhodes,he’s one of mah fave characters HE SAVED A FRICKIN PANDA
I hate Rhodes to Dr.Charles is a dad he has the right to do that I should now about phycological treatment because I'm a retired phycological Assistant.
He saved a panda though
@@soupe5646 XD
@@markrowe2828 A FATHER does not ahve the right to put his own daughter on an involuntary hold. Especially as a DR.
I love Rhodes with al my heart but he really pissed me of in this one!! He almost got her killed by questioning Charles and getting her out of there. Poor Charles
I feel sorry for doctor Charles he’s my favourite doctor I just want to give him a hug
"This is on you. You did this."
Ahh.. The best "I told you so". Luv it.
The look on Rhoads' face said it all. He knew he fucked up.
@@KissMyFatAxe imagine if she'd jumped or lost her balance over the rail.
charles finally mad wow..
Low blow Rhodes
It hurt during the scene where Dr. Charles was saying "im so sorry" when he was going to bring his daughter up to the psych ward. Ive had that experience. I was so scared and in reality they were trying to help but it felt like they just lead me to the slaughter.
best I TOLD U SOOOO AHHH
And that what happens when you underestimate Psychiatry
*phychicatory imprisonment
I love the look on dr Charles face when robin came in it’s just like I TOLD YOU SO
2:35 doctor rhodes... I love u, best way to make someone feel better
Dr Charles is only caring for his daughter, he doesn’t deserve that from her.
Wheeliebins United Robin is the biggest brat in the series. Her father always saves her from her stupidity; bought her a fancy condo; and likely put her into the best schools.
Lol i hate Dr rhodes now
He is soo zaddddy😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Why the “lol”?
ITZ SAFI no girl no😭 zaddy is only for zayn✨
Hate to say he told u so, but he told you so
I knew she was crazy ever since she lied about her pregnancy to dixon
Pregnancy? Which episode was that? I am on episode 17 season 2 and haven't seen this
ashlee when??
THAT’S WHERE I KNOW HER FROM
@@justyna2457 i think they meant in 90210
I love that the SECOND they put the medicine in her she just passed out😂
Yeah thats not really how attivan works lol. It needs at least a couple minutes to kick in
I truly admire Dr. Charles for not knocking out Rhodes. That kind of self control, after Rhodes put Robin's life at risk, I would have landed a solid liver punch at the very least.
I love the quality of the acting for the arguement between Dr. Charles and Dr. Rhodes
this made me cry lmao especially when he said you fail as a dad
My question is how did Connor manage to save Robin from the balcony
6:08 I love dr Reese’s face and that dr’s face while Connor and Daniel are fighting
Charlotte Ae And that’s why she ditched him. Rhodes was a pussy-whipped li’l rich boy who would let his GF kill herself if she wanted to.😂
It wasn't that. His judgement was based on the fact his own father neglected him. He doesn't understand doctor Charles isn't his father.
Robyn actually scared me a little during this
"who are you to decide who's going to hurt themselves?"
perhaps the guy who spent ears studding this kind thing and does so as a possession?
No man will speak to my father like that
Connor should be sued as a doctor for endagering a persons life ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Why? His decision wasn't made in a professional capacity, it was personal. His decisions over his psychotic girlfriend have nothing to do with his job as a surgeon.
back in lockdown time to binge Chicago med, PD and fire clips on you tube keeps me sane.
*frantically screams and runs away from Connor in fear*
Connor *AGRESSIVLY BASHES DOOR SHOUTING AT HER*
Dr. Charles: Bet.
There is one unwritten rule in life
Always listen to dr Charles
Just do it
Even if the show gets manic and psychotic episodes mixed up
Listen to dr Charles
Dr. Charles is such a loving and carrying father😘 I think everyone wishes to have a father like that❤️ I do have to say that my dad is the same💙 Love him.
Should've lisyened to him in the first plaacee
Oh hey I didnt know Chimney worked in Chicago as well as LA
I have been around Mental health Units for years yes they Help they helped with My case but they can make things worse
I thought this was his wife at first then she called him dad and I was like wtf then I was like
Oh
I've never seen Dr Charles so upset like this b4 lmao. But he's still my fav doctor as always
Robyn Charles - Chicago Meds
Nyla Harper - The Rookie
I love this woman. She is wonderfully amazing.
So what did we learn?
1) Connor is an idiot
2) All hail dr.Charles never question our lord and saviour.
Stolen
I hate how so many people think they can handle their, or their loved ones' mental issues as if they are just a small hurdle in the way.
Take phobias for example, so many people think phobias are the same as fear, not understanding that it is a DEBILITATING fear. Telling phobic people to "just get over it".
Mental issues are so complex that we barely know anything about them now let alone 100 years ago. So what makes you an expert?!
Never question our Lord and savior Dr. Charles
sooooo mad that I almost hit the screen. you did this!
But we gotta say, love you Conner but Daniel's right, even if he is overprotective, you don't know what's going to happen next, she could be suicidal the next morning, putting her in a ward is like the safest thing, and them Conner just thinks he's being overprotective because that's his daughter
I so love how he rubs it on his face. Look at her now 😊. I so love doctor Charles ❤
When the medical doctors completely write off what the psychiatrists say >:((
and....
this is y we should ALWAYS listen to dr charles!!!!!!!!!!
this is y hes my favourite on this show!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This episode was very hard for me to watch. As a daughter, I wouldn't go against my father but I understand why Robin did feel like her father was trying to control her. Rhodes was very rude to Charles. Not fair at all.
