I totally agree with him on Jacksonville being so spread out. He is telling the truth. I went to JU not UNF and I was an international student with no car and even thought things on campus where pretty accessible, Jacksonville is so big that you can’t go anywhere without a car. When you get someone to take you out you realize there is not really people walking in the streets but just cars. This In my opinion is sad coming from a city where there is a lot of pedestrians and places you can easily walk to. I hated it at some point because I wanted more of vibe like New York City where there is public transportation and you can walk in the street without people looking at you like you are a homeless person just because you are walking. The streets are empty ( from people, just full of cars) except by the beaches, San Marco and riverside which are areas that I really love but pretty expensive to live. You would definitely need to share with someone if living of campus and then the commute from this hip places to either JU or UNF is at least 20 minutes. There was a shuttle at JU as well and I think I was pretty lucky to always have friends with cars. I would say if you like to do things outside campus and don’t have a car you are definitely not going to like it. I’m so glad he brought it up. We need more hip community areas in Jacksonville where Students Can get involved.
I’ve grown up in homestead and it’s the same here, you’ve got to ride in a car everywhere. That’s not just suburbs tho, that’s pretty much most of the us. 🤷♀️
As far as drawbacks go, these are actually not that bad in comparison to what they could be, especially for introverts. I can't wait to start in the fall :D
Exactly! I stand by what I said in the video, that most of the drawbacks are just natural consequences of the the positives - it's all about expectation management. Best of luck in the fall Jamie!
Just moved here & I agree! I've noticed the only time I really go to downtown is when there's events at Myth or River City Brewing. Most people like to chill at the bars at the beach.
I will be starting at UNF as a junior in the summer transferring in from a state college. Personally, UNF fits my needs of going to class, study, and getting my degree. That fits my personal value of getting my education, but I understand that someone might want to go somewhere else for more of a "college experience" or living in a college town.
Thinking about studying jazz here. I hear the gigs are pretty good when its not during a pandemic. Im going to miss the city vibe im used to, but im sure I'll learn to love it.
Im a Junior majoring in CS. I warn you freshmen out of High School. STAY AWAY FROM CS DEGREE b/c you will hate yourself mainly the professors(NOT ALL) are terrible at teaching nor they care about you and they are not worth your time. I recommend going to other college if you are really gonna major in CS. ALSO you will have to postbacc couple of time because this major, only has one professor who teach same branch and it not fun if they don't teach well
@@toystory3335 Trust me go to UCF, You will hate yourself by going to this school. Not saying every single one is bad. But the computing department, only have 2 professors that teach majority of the CS programming and IT that both don't teach really well and when you hit physics good luck because there is only one professor that teach it and you can't even pass because he doesn't teach well even if you pay attention.
Another shocker is that the physics base cal for UNF was average 45% not joking 80% percent of the class didn't even pass. I would highly transfer to UCF or UF even if you have a chance.
@@MrNoahsamen I got into FSU and UCF as well, but chose UNF based on location. Thank you for your insight, I will transfer to UCF immediately after I complete my A.A, I have about 34 credit hours via High school dual enrollment. Hopefully it all works out
Does unf help hook you up with your practicum and internship required during your last 2 semesters? Also how are unf's alumni services when it come to getting a job after graduation?
I would say so, yes! UNF has a LGBTQ+ resources center that I hear is well supported. From my understanding, UNF housing has strong anti-disctimation policies, and from my perspective I would say that there is general acceptance of diversity around campus. I hope that helped (:
Tough thought experiment! As I mentioned, a lot of the issues are consequences of the ocation of the campus in relation to it's surrounding social environment. Local businesses would naturally lead to more engagement, but as I mentioned, the town center makes this a difficult task. Regarding the on-campus experience, if UNF were to build more on campus housing that would benefit the community. Of course, any further land development cuts into the natural element of the UNF vibe. Tricky....
Actually Jacksonville is the biggest city in the nation. Unf is in the city of Jacksonville.. the town center is also in the city of Jacksonville but people in st.johns own the mall which is why it’s called the St. John’s town center. But I personally don’t think you have been to all sides of Jacksonville because there are nice parts everywhere not just on the south side of it.
kkkh kkk but it’s not within a driving distance everything fun is far away! And let’s be honest there is literally nothing fun to do in Jacksonville compared to Orlando or Miami!
Lord your comment makes no sense... the fact that Jacksonville is the largest city in the US is irrelevant to what he’s talking about.. Jacksonville is a behemoth of a city... UNF campus is isolated ....everything he says is so on point..... the campus is beautiful.... the environment was kept intact.... I visited the campus last year, spent 3 months in Jax on the Southside

I'm doing the same exact thing! I finished my AA at a state college and I'm transferring to UNF for summer B :) Good luck!

COMMITTED! Gonna double major in music ed and jazz studies.
Thinking about applying to UNF. Still interested in it despite the cons explained. Thanks for the info!

If you have any questions regarding the professors feel free to ask why you shouldn't major in CS at UNF.
@@MrNoahsamen please, why shouldn’t I major in CS @ UNF? I resume in the fall, do you think UCF is a better choice?

I’m really scared and stressed
I feel that unf will cost me a lot
What scholarship i need ?
I did apply for FAFSA
Bright future+ how is it going after 2 years
I just got accepted
Ayo! Congrats and Swoop!
@@almostaustin Thank You! Hopefully I can afford to go

What GPA do you need to attend? I’ve never been in college and don’t really understand how it works. Also is UNF veteran friendly? Thanks
at least you had that, we only had the boathouse
Is public transportation easily available to commute to campus?
I thought this was about Doomguy's UNF
Haha - the world is running out of acronyms 😂 Cheers
How far away is UNF from the Jax beach?
Super close - 15-20 min, maybe a little longer at rush hour. 😁
Beware of one-stop center it horrible
Would you say unf is lgbt friendly?

@Juliemae.. agree 💯 %
Can freshman's have cars on campus?
Yes!
Come study in Vienna instead! :)
Sounds exactly like FGCU lol
Been here since fall 2021, so fucking boring and bland. Well guess I missed the college years
