- It is finally time to talk about Haru, to celebrate the occasion we are joined by artist mastermind ScruffyTurtles! Questions such as why is Haru so adorable, why does Scruffy draw her with a bit of thickness and if this is the best party member confidant may or may not be answered.

i did, always choose the empress in every persona game.
The thing that really impressed me about Haru is the way she handled her father's death. I mean, the way it looks the phantom theives murder her father, and she helped them do it! But instead of freaking out and jumping to conclusions she doesn't do anything rash and calmly handles her grief gracefully and maturely. That's mental strength right there.
one can also argue that it's also the consequence of rushed writing due to her being introduced REALLY late in the game. Nothing against her, just showing another point of view.

The only reason Haru is overshadowed by Makoto and Futaba is because she appears late in the game.
Makoto overshadows everyone because she's the Devs favourite despite her disgusting personality.

@BENDROWNED33 That isn’t the reason as far as I can tell. A lot of people like Akechi more than most of Persona 5 cast after he joins the team temporally and he joins much later than Haru. Even with most recent popularity pull with Persona Q2, Akechi was the only Persona 5 character in the top 5 Persona characters even after people made multiple videos criticizing his character. People are just more drawn to Makoto and Futaba.
@Pez Dispencer There is no such thing as a disgusting personality. Personality is subjective. There is no objective good personality or a bad one. It is more about what person is more drawn to rather than what is good or bad.

I find Haru incredibly charming. On one hand, she's an adorable cinnamon roll, but on the other hand, she wants to murder everything in her way with a grenade launcher. My kind of woman.

She definitely needed more screen time, instead we got that pointless Ryuji vs Morgana 'no you are stupid' playground fight. I actually always do the festival event with her, it gives her the screetime she need and it felt the most 'natural' for those that I have seen. As in, it coud have easily had been and actual story event instead of an optional one.
EDIT: I forgot about her Confidant. It is the best written and with the best flow among those of the PTs, and while my favorites are Yusuke's (first half) and Futaba (before friend request), her is the best as an actual story.
To me Haru is the reverse best boy in Persona 4 , Kanji Tatsumi
Kanji is metal outside but soft inside while
Haru is soft and fluffy outside but metal inside because she uses battle axe and grenade launcher which polar opposite from her phantom suit look.
The sweetest character in the entire series. Awfully disappointed that Haru comes in so late in the story, and frankly, I feel she's the reason Hifumi's role was cut from the Phantom Thieves, but she's a great character and a welcomed addition to the team. I like her way more than Makoto for Joker's love interest.
Animated Ink Makoto is reason, why Hifumi isn't a Phantom Thief, not Haru.
I like the idea that Sugimura doesn't get his heart changed for two reasons. One is comedic (Haru doesn't actually KNOW his full name, and doesn't know how to ask it without being suspicious), and one less comedic (his desires aren't distorted, he's just a fucking asshole).
All we need is NicoB, and all the guests of my dreams will have been on this show.

Haru's character arc is having someone remind her that her dad died every five seconds. Legit, almost every interaction with her is someone saying "rEmEmBeR wHeN yOuR dAd DiEd".

I think Haru's a great character, it's just that you get her so late in the game that she's on the back burner. By the time you even unlock her social link, you have every other female social link halfway done, at least, and she's on the back burner. She's also the last permanent party member you get before P5R's post-game and she doesn't add much in combat to what you can do at the point you get her. I think the best part of her is that this high born, fancy girl uses a grenade launcher as her ranged weapon.

Robo-Knight YT No not really Makoto is more of Joker’s right hand woman than Haru. Haru doesn’t really interact with Joker to the extent Makoto has.

I have a friend who is Haru IRL, they both have brown hair, they love gardening, they're very kind and they even have similar voices. It's like Haru was written specifically to appeal to her.
I kinda wish they played a bit more on her being slightly sadistic. I would have loved to see her in full on rage mode.

Jokes aside, full sadistic mode is probably not what the character needs, but some additional layers would have been welcome, to show that despite being sweet, she IS a daughter of a ruthless CEO and can be just as professional and ruthless if need be.

I'm so happy that the video for Best Girl is finally up. This is a treat!
My waifu journey in P5 went a weird direction. First playthrough, I picked Futaba because she's an adorable neet-gremlin and I like the clingy ones. Second playthrough, I picked Hifumi because I love how she looks, because I wanted to see the Hawaii scene and most importantly, because New Game + made is so that I wasn't too stupid to progress her confidant.
But during that second playthrough, when I actually maxed out my stats, I also got access to Haru's confidant and boy was I blown away by how great she is as a character. That caused me to 1. draw me into her character REALLY hard, because suddenly that gap of "she looks nice but she is not relevant to this plot at all" was filled up with her confidant-personality and 2. got me really angry, because of how bad poor Haru got shafted by the script.
Now, I'm not a scumbag so I stuck with Hifumin and I still like her, but boy, that Haru rejection scene killed me inside. She was so sad. °^°
Watching these videos made me wanna get around to playing the game a week ago, I'm now near the endgame strech. Way to go, Fith Crew!
Haru started as my least favorite Phantom Thief but eventually became my 2nd choice for waifu after I did her confidant. Its a shame she didn't get more time in the spot light.
2nd in that I love her but, I love Futaba a little more.

Most people I've known who say Futaba isn't waifu material and is like a little sister are people with siblings. People without siblings (like me) tend to find waifu material.
When you guys were doing Confidant reviews for some characters, I had a thought that you might not of liked Haru.
After seeing the thumbnail and listening to the whole video, I was Empress-ed about it. This really raised the best girl for me rivaling Futaba.
I really hope that persona Q 2 actually attempts to write good characters and give Haru some screen time she deserved. The anime too for that matter. I don't talk about her much with my friends but she is pretty cool.

Great video man but you forgot about Haru's Confidant abilities. Her gardening skills pretty much give you one of the best SP healing items in the game. Just point that out.
She is also my favorite female P5 party member and my P5 waifu.
Ross Russ except they take a week to make. In this span of time I can make 14 curries
Earth The Kid they don't take a week to make after you after you get Soil improvement which makes them only take three days (at least that's going off of memory from my 2nd and 3rd play though of P5). Plus you will not always need to fully recover all of your team members SP at once (if you switch them out like I do). So it's good if you want to save on using curry.

and Haru's garden will give me more then that in one go round? plus there is also the fact on someday Cafe Dad still go the shop open, so some days you will not be able to make Curry or if you are out of curry ingredients and Sojiro hasn't restock the on ingredients yet. also why not just use both and save on using curry?
Ross Russ you can make curry when the shop is still open. You have to listen to the customers 2-3 times and they’ll leave. You’ll be able to make curry then

Even when her dad dies, she doesn't even get upset about it. Honestly it should have made her a prime suspect to betray the Phantom Thieves
And how do you *half* awaken your persona? It's either a full awakening or no awakening, you can't do half

She's was a very awkward character. She doesn't even hang out with the other girls much, she's just kinda there. You have to read between the lines to understand her which sucks.

She's one of my favorite, I wish she had more time in the story. I agree that her confidant really feels like she has a thing for you unlike the others, unfortunately in my 1st playthrough I already had someone else when I got to her confidant and rejected her it broke my heart knowing I broke her heart.
After I finished the game, I made a new file and chose her and she was awesome and everything was good in the world.
Haru is one of those characters that I learned to appreciate more on a second or third playthrough. Her confidant reminded me of Risé’s in the sense that the game makes you feel bad for not romancing her.
I wholeheartedly agree with anyone who says Haru really gets the short end of the stick because it feels like her arc was only there to boost Morganna. And Haru felt like an unnecessary add-on AT FIRST. That’s why she should’ve been introduced way earlier in the story.
Anyway, could anyone explain to me why Akechi is so popular? The best I can say about him is that he’s pretty much a well-written Obito.
Scuffy turtles, hell yeah this guy is very great artist. that role reversal with the adults is clever and amazing. -also he makes good lewd and porn pics-. Also haru deserves better in the main story.

Also for the second Persona 5 with Makoto as the probable protagonist, they could do the following: Have Sae as a normal social link, Put Shiho back in the game more, Expand on Makoto’s backstory and why her life is the way it is and Explain more about Haru aside from “hey she’s a girl from a rich family who’s money is built on immoral actions”. They’ve already done it with Maya from Persona 2 Innocent Sin coming back as the protagonist in Persona 2 Eternal Punishment so im sure it will work even better with a strong character like Makoto being the new protag. Of course Atlus wont read this but its just something ive though about for a while.

Thanks to makoto's spotlight stealing,haru got shafted harder than Sonics career.We never get a real idea of what she's actually like outside her confidant,unlike every other character.Nevermind the fact that her confidant has such high requirements and comes extremely late in the game.But of course,we needed another makoto central dungeon instead of an all purpose and non personal dungeon ala kaneshiro or shido(Lets face it,he didnt even prove to be a personal villian but rather a generic japanese trump.)We could have gotten a better perspective on her relationship with the others as well as her thoughts on the current situations.But no,we needed to stop sae because.....reasons?Oh,i almost forgot,she even got shafted in her own dungeon because morgana needed a random "i need to prove myself" arc.so even her personal are got fucked over thanks to a pissy child cat.

jwadd01 the dungeon was extremely good.it was literally the most pointless outside of baiting akechi though.At no point would sae have been able to bullshit a story about 4 kids(barring makoto obviously)being able to take down 4 powerful and influential men in a few months with zero proof.That would be flat out impossible.
Astarte looking to me like a cupcake skull is really fitting for Haru even if i wasnt overly fond of the design on its own.
For me best girl is Haru she may have been shown late she was just such a cute character and when I played her route it made me love Haru even more she really deserved more screen time she is an adorable character that is in my personal best girl

I'm neither Haru fan or detractor. She's pleasant. And her reflect powers made her a mainstay in my party for the final dungeons. I hope she gets a better shake in the inevitable Persona 5 spin-offs. It is a shame Dancing Star Night won't have a story mode. The trailers show that Haru is likely the Phantom Thieves' one classically trained dancer. That could have been her moment. Haru's introduction intersecting with Morgana/Ryuji/Goro stuff was not a problem for me. Trying to make a new character super prominent right away that late in the story could have been annoying. So having the "Beauty Thief" basically be a joke character they ease you into being sympathetic for was the right move. The story is absolutely long enough as it is, so there did not be an additional Palace just to have Haru around more before the plot ticked into high gear. But she could have been given a little more to do in the main plot/subplots after that and rapport with other characters. Many of her more interesting traits are a bit too well hidden, and there really shouldn't have been a social link check to do her Confidant. I really wanted to see her take down her jerk fiance in the real world. The way the Persona anime is going, they'll probably only be 7 or 8 episodes left when Haru is introduced which will have to be followed by the part of the story that is legitimately Goro centric. I'm afraid she'll really vanish into the background of the anime more than in the game where I had the option hang out with her and use her even if the main story wasn't

I generally liked Harus confidant but that contract thing somewhat negatively affected my overall outlook on the subplot because from the moment I heard about it I treated it as a lazy excuse to advance conflict within her confidant. In the real world no one sane enough would have believed for a second that such legal agreement can exist.

ive kind of been in denial about haru. I dont really have a genuine reason to dislike her, but i just dont. All of my disappointment stems from what i personally think is haru not being how i thought she was being advertised. in that opening cutscene haru has that uninterested glare, and in her all out attack she has that sassy "adieu". both of those, plus her outfit gave off a cooler vibe than what we got. Her japanese voice being deeper also gave off that vibe. then the english voice came and her voice was high pitched, she was super kind and all of that information just kind of felt like it clashed. her confidant being so late and me being bad at balancing stuff made me unable to complete her confidant by the end of the game, so that also added to my detachment from her.
i wanst expecting full on rich arrogant snob, but this was at the point where i assumed youd have a character be a certain way outside, but in the metaverse they let loose and reveal inner trouble maker (like the protagonist being calm but shifting to a cocky trickster, ryuji being wild instead of just being a bro, ann being more free and possibly flirty, yusuke embracing his dramatic side, makoto being louder and more in charge, futaba getting wicked schemy, and for haru, l thought she would have a more arrogant personality inside the metaverse).
even though the shift i was expecting is either subtle or nonexistant, most of the characters kind of fit the parts youd imagine from their trailers and the intro except for haru.

Haru should have been in the game as just a confidant at first, you hit a block at rank 5, and then she awakens and joins the PT. That way you can romance her and get veggies earlier
