So the entire war seems to revolve around Corrin while their main defining trait as a character is naivety due to being literally a princess/prince raised in a isolated tower but the game never seems to punish Corrin and allow for any actual growth, instead choosing to almost reward him/her for it. "What would happen if a major city got put under a lockdown... and also demons are running around... and also people could CONTROL the demons." I know 1000 other people have made this joke, but this basically is America in 2020. 😂
Basically what is happening today. Cities in lockdown, demons (aka Karens and Partyhorses) running around and some people controlling demons (frontliners, cops and soldiers) to save the city.
I think my one real gripe with devil survivor is how almost all of the endings require saving haru, since most of them require you to fight belial, and he only shows up if haru is still alive, regardless of if haru herself has any involvement with the route or not.
@@EA-bv8zk Lucifer came on 7th day (I think) and chaos is increasing month after month in our world so a day in DeSu = a month or two here. So gentlemen.... Check your death clocks.
"Atsuro is the greatest Megami Tensei bro ever." I won't stand for this Daichi Shijima slander lol But no, I whole heartedly feel this, but in a slightly different way. Persona 4 is my ride or die, go to number one game while Devil Survivor 2 is a fierce second.
honestly i don't like daichi that much, he comes across as more of a bumbling idiot who lives in hiro's shadow than a competent team member and good friend maybe i just don't like pervert type characters in these kinds of games but idk daichi always came across as a really offputting character. he does have some decent development tho
Keisuke is the only extreme character that I got to understand. Kaidou was too random: "hey, I owe you one!" "But I'ma kill you now just because". Midori was suuuuuper fucking annoying, and Yuzu was understandable at first but she didn't adapt until the very end, forcing you to hear her shit all along. Gin was awesome tho, and Haru was like "I'm depressed, please give me attention", and then "I'm cool now, so I'll act as cool as humanly possible to the point of showing how fragile and unstable I am", not my favorite girl. Atsuro tho, is definitely the best bro in the whole franchise.

Hey Fither I finally decided to play Devil Survivor and I agree 100% on Atsuro, hes such a bro and is holding my team together I really would love to see you do a video on him someday!
Devil Survivor was my first SMT game. I had a wendigo up until Jezabel and to this day I have not beat it. Devil Survivor 2 was the first smt game I actually beat
*life kinda feels like this game right now (context: coronavirus, 2020, can't leave Vegas, and school's dead)* except I can't summon demons, sucks edit : i think i found a way to do the latter
I agree with the setting thing. what makes DeSu1 so fucking solid is that it pulls no punches with showing how a densely populated area would decay in a lockdown like this. People are already fighting for resources by the 1st and 2nd days, and it escalates into an incredibly dark and tense direction, while not getting edgy. It's disturbingly grounded given the concept
The games are fantastic strategy rpgs and they have great stories and well developed and likable characters for the most part. I think Record Breaker was better by a slight margin.
I can't believe I bought devil survivor on a whim, it's one of the greatest games ever! I'm trying to make a video on it too because I feel like I can say soooo much about it
Sick video man! I would love to see confidant videos for different SMT games I got Devil Survivor for the 3DS some years ago, and that basically got me into SMT and Persona in general. I love that game a lot! Yeah the setting and the sense of urgency makes the game for me. My biggest gripe with it was the final boss, who i thought it was BS *Spoiler* Like... You just fought the last Bel, then gotta fight them ALL OF THEM ALL OVER AGAIN right after that and then that obnoxious 1st phase boss? Idk... it really soured my overall experience. Thankfully the overclocked version had that extra day, and that boss felt more suiting (despite being ABSURDLY hard)
Im really happy you agree about atsuro being the best. I cosplayed as him. At an smt/photoshoot, i was technically The only none persona cosplayer it was kinda exciting
I've heard nothing but great things about Devil Survivor! I really need to play it sometime. I'm currently playing SMT IV for my first time ever and it's my very first main line SMT game ever! Time to graduate from the Persona only fanboy and become a true SMT fan!
one of my ex's is obsessed with nawlins, she was an antropology major and talked her campus into letting her goto new orleans right after katrina to write about peoples experience while there, the superdome however was so bad that the review board that approved it absolutely told her they would shut her project down if she touched on the superdome at all

I’m really sorry that I have to use another video to say this but I just had to tell you what I feel. I always have enjoyed the videos like the ones in Jojomonth and the one’s Persona related and you’ve definitely helped kindle my love and admiration for those series all the while giving me a new perspective on different aspects. As much as it sucks that you’ll have to leave soon I’d be doing you a huge disservice to encourage you to stick around. I wished I could’ve shared my thoughts sooner but now I think it’s the most appropriate time to say so. Just know that I admire your honesty and I hope you can make that big change for the better, I’m rooting for you. Silly to ask but if there is any chance I can chat with you about games or anything I’d be totally down for it. Just promise you won’t make a video off it ;). All jokes aside, best luck to you man.
You got me to buy the game and it was really fun. Went Chaos route (only had that or Yuzu's) and I love/Hate each of the boss battles against the Bels. (Especially the final battle against them.. Dear Bel..) Thank you so much
I got into SMT series because i thought every game was like devil survivor. Little did i know devil survivor was just a spin off. IMO, SMT DS does a lot of things better than the mainline games and one of those is the race system where (almost) each race felt unique and not used as just a fusion mechanic. Definitely one of my all time favorites.
what I love about this game is that it has all the strength of SMT and Persona but almost none of downsides like demon negotiation which is a randomized disaster ( every time I was like " I need to recruit demons shiiiit") and in this game and sequel you can save people or let them die and in second game you have Fate system which is social link without. restrictions of stats (no you do not have guts, charm and such) in Persona stats exist ONLY to stop you from maxing out all links and if you decide to ignore links there is literally nothing to do in there and like i said you can let people die imagine letting Kanji or Naoto or any other character die and game continues also in desu you can refuse to take characters into your team even after you save them which is awesome for example I don't like Makoto in P5 (she actively is antagonizing MC the moment she appearance and till she gets persona plus thanks to her Kaneshiro has Dirt on MC and I would have loved if there was an option to not help or not take her into the team) in short Devil Survivor is Persona but better
Loved this game back in the day when i had a NDS, then recently i saw a release trailer for the new SMT and clicked on some of yours and nyarlies vids cause it was suggested. And then i was like oh crap there are more of these games!!! (I did know about persona 5 tho) So now on a emulator playing devil survivor 2 next up strange journey. And having a blast playing em. These games still hold up! Thx for the vids btw or else i wouldnt have known😅.
Persona 1 was my first MegaTen game but then Devil Survivor slapped me in the face and give me a hell of a ride after that I go to Devil Survivor 2 and cried at the end
What's your thoughts on DeSu 2 ? I know you have a video about it from way back, but it would be nice to hear your current opinion on DeSu 2 and how it compares to DeSu 1.
Oh Fith btw i was gonna say this on the stream today but all the Pokémon talk sent me into a loony state of mind. “Do you not wish someone would translate the books that the original games were based from?”
This first time i played this game IT didn't engage me , maybe i wasn't in the mood, but then months later i played it again and i couldn't stop until i finished it . Love the gameplay but the best thing about this game are the story and the characters and the way they are developed (imo) . Like many this was my fisrt megaten , or the fisrt i completed , because on PlayStation (one) i played a persona game but just the surface , with devil survivor i became a megaten fan .
personally i found devil survivor 2 to be better but 1 does one up it in some points. like giving more humanized reactions to the situation they're in. though JPs made sure to keep public panic to a minimum. also, last day for 1 is terrible. i was not ready for tower of babel second form. though in 2 i had the Adim one hit ok the one guy i needed to protect three different times in its second form.
devil survivor is great just finished it yesterday for the first time i somehow managed to save all the characters on my first playthrough tho since i spread my time out i only had 2 endings to pick from running away with yuzu and you know i could not do that since that sounded lame so i went with naoya and kaido and became the overlord to save humanity
I played the second game first back before it was remade for the 3ds, I never beat the orginal DS2 but I do have it to thank for getting me to play the Overclocked version of DS1. While I do like the Record Breaker version of DS2 I do kinda like Overclocks story just a bit more. I almost always go for the Heroic King of Bel ending by siding with Naoya. (Regardless of people telling me its not a smart idea to take that ending on in your first run)
If they ever release a third version, it would be for the switch or some new platform. And, Im sure if it happens it would be the sandbox for the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei 5. Something like an Apocalypse: Devil Survivor 3.
Is there any significant differences between the original release and overclocked? I want to try the game and since I have a 3ds I figure I'd just download overclocked, but I want to know if there's anything that makes the original release better then overclocked it vice versa
Ayyyy kudos for the Devil Survivor love. Both this and Record Breaker are two of my favorite games in the series. I'd kill for a Devil Survivor 3 Atlus pls.

That train wreck of an anime does not even come close to doing the game or its characters justice, especially the main character, and don't even get me started on how they represented demons it that show.
@@s.silverman9864 yep, do NOT watch the anime before playing the game....hell even after ya played the game it still may piss you off.
@@dantemustdie00 An unfortunate trend with most anime adaptations I'm afraid. I'll never understand the insistence on making self insert characters as bland as humanly possible. I mean how are the audience supposed to relate to a character like that?
I'm playing it now and the only thing I'm mad at is the group of like 3 demons that have media for each other and just keep healing each other
Also as a long time resident of New Orleans, your comparison of the city to devil survivor was something I had never given much thought about good comparison
anyone else watching this in 2020 thinking "god dammit we are living in Devil Survivor"
Considering the times playing a game about lawlessness in a lockdown would be morbidly entertaining
"What would happen if a major city got put under a lockdown... and also demons are running around... and also people could CONTROL the demons."
I know 1000 other people have made this joke, but this basically is America in 2020. 😂
Basically what is happening today. Cities in lockdown, demons (aka Karens and Partyhorses) running around and some people controlling demons (frontliners, cops and soldiers) to save the city.
damn ATLUS predict the pandemic years before it happen with anime characters
I think my one real gripe with devil survivor is how almost all of the endings require saving haru, since most of them require you to fight belial, and he only shows up if haru is still alive, regardless of if haru herself has any involvement with the route or not.
What I like is that the Bel Demons aren't whiny bitches, when they lose to the Mc they be like yeah this guy has a better chance of fucking up God.
When do we get a raidou talk because I think he's so underrated
Darkblade X same
He's gay
Gino is he still gay
You should totally do a character dive for the devil survivor series. I for one, would enjoy it very much
This is why we need a Devil survivor 3 for switch or 3ds.
This video was great, you really summed up everything I love about Devil Survivor too! I hope more people give it a chance
Ha ha, wow, this game really predicted the future...
Wait...
Where’s Lucifer...
Yeah this guy named "beldur" just wiped out half of my neighborhood
A game where a thing predicts the future is oddly good at predicting the future
Shh🤫 don't tell anybody
@@EA-bv8zk Lucifer came on 7th day (I think) and chaos is increasing month after month in our world so a day in DeSu = a month or two here. So gentlemen....
Check your death clocks.
"Atsuro is the greatest Megami Tensei bro ever." I won't stand for this Daichi Shijima slander lol
But no, I whole heartedly feel this, but in a slightly different way. Persona 4 is my ride or die, go to number one game while Devil Survivor 2 is a fierce second.
Jungo is best bro supporter: Want some Chawanmusi?
@@SamsExtras Jungo is cool too, but i like joe too
Dude Daichi is such a bitch. Atsuro always sticks with you and nuts up when he needs to.
@@NEETKitten ...
honestly i don't like daichi that much, he comes across as more of a bumbling idiot who lives in hiro's shadow than a competent team member and good friend
maybe i just don't like pervert type characters in these kinds of games but idk daichi always came across as a really offputting character. he does have some decent development tho
Ok so like the first shin megami game i played was P5 but what made me get into it was the Devil Survivor 2 anime
Devil Survivor is so kino, peak Megaten
I'm personally praying for a third game to be announced at Tokyo Game Show, can't have the mainline series and Persona having all the fun.
DMD00 dont think they will invest their time on a 3rd game. just wait for smt5 and hope to GOD it doesnt fuck up
DMD00
>Non Persona Spin Off game in the current year.
It's dead Jim.
I was so disappointed with seeing Persona Q2... they have 3 other franchises they can use, Devil Survivor, Raidou Kuzunoha and Digital Devil Saga but NOPE, it gotta be Persona all the time :\ I love Persona but I love other SMT games just as much )":
They remade Devil Survivor 1/2 so it isn't that unlikely.
@@JackFrostAegirine goodbye 😢🤤
Atsuro was fucking fantastic! The fact that he voiced by Atsushi Abe in the Japanese version makes him even better.
It's probably my favorite, it also have the best Law ending in the entire franchise, also Metatron is pretty awesome
10:10 Ah, I was waiting for you to mention best girl.
Hey Fither I finally decided to play Devil Survivor and I agree 100% on Atsuro, hes such a bro and is holding my team together
I really would love to see you do a video on him someday!
Devil Survivor was my first SMT game. I had a wendigo up until Jezabel and to this day I have not beat it. Devil Survivor 2 was the first smt game I actually beat
Also I am the only person in the world who likes Midori
yankiel Lizardo I lije Midori too, I just don't like the voice they gave her in the overclocked version. It was way too high pitched.
Amber Valkerie That's fine, at least I found someone else likes Midori
*life kinda feels like this game right now (context: coronavirus, 2020, can't leave Vegas, and school's dead)*
except I can't summon demons, sucks
edit : i think i found a way to do the latter
Tell me how.
Please release those Confidant style videos for the characters from this.
That’d be so *lit.*
Bruh when I saw devil survivor record breaker
I literally thought they are gonna make DS3 but bruh
Didn't you see the 2 when it was announced
I agree with the setting thing. what makes DeSu1 so fucking solid is that it pulls no punches with showing how a densely populated area would decay in a lockdown like this. People are already fighting for resources by the 1st and 2nd days, and it escalates into an incredibly dark and tense direction, while not getting edgy. It's disturbingly grounded given the concept
im gona play this during covid, unintentionally
The games are fantastic strategy rpgs and they have great stories and well developed and likable characters for the most part. I think Record Breaker was better by a slight margin.
9:20 Are you still planning to do that series, or have you scrapped it?
I can't believe I bought devil survivor on a whim, it's one of the greatest games ever! I'm trying to make a video on it too because I feel like I can say soooo much about it
Sick video man! I would love to see confidant videos for different SMT games
I got Devil Survivor for the 3DS some years ago, and that basically got me into SMT and Persona in general. I love that game a lot! Yeah the setting and the sense of urgency makes the game for me.
My biggest gripe with it was the final boss, who i thought it was BS
*Spoiler*
Like...
What about devil survivor 2 ?
Im really happy you agree about atsuro being the best. I cosplayed as him. At an smt/photoshoot, i was technically The only none persona cosplayer it was kinda exciting
You know, Devil Survivor is pretty perfect for the whole covid situation atm
I mean, we're in quarantine right now. All we need is some demons and Devil Survivor will be real!
Hey fither real question is Devil Survivor a good game to play if you want a piece of media to relate to the current pandemic
Hibiki kuze is one of my favourite megami tensei protagonist
He's just a bootleg version of ren from persona 5 lol
I've heard nothing but great things about Devil Survivor! I really need to play it sometime. I'm currently playing SMT IV for my first time ever and it's my very first main line SMT game ever! Time to graduate from the Persona only fanboy and become a true SMT fan!
Probably has the best thought out story not only in MegaTen history but also sRPGs too
i give my junior the devil survivor game, since then he religiously play them
one of my ex's is obsessed with nawlins, she was an antropology major and talked her campus into letting her goto new orleans right after katrina to write about peoples experience while there, the superdome however was so bad that the review board that approved it absolutely told her they would shut her project down if she touched on the superdome at all
Personal headcanon, Bell in the devil Survivor Multiverse is the Demi fiend from Nocturne. The timelines add up and it makes sense out of the reason why neutrality has so many options
devil survivor 3 please daddy atlus if smt 5 will never come out at least let me have this
I’m really sorry that I have to use another video to say this but I just had to tell you what I feel.
@@B0K0691 what happened? I've just found his channel does he not upload SMT content anymore?
@@B0K0691 ahh fair enough thats good :)
Do you have a podcast or smth? Nice review btw
You got me to buy the game and it was really fun. Went Chaos route (only had that or Yuzu's) and I love/Hate each of the boss battles against the Bels. (Especially the final battle against them.. Dear Bel..)
Thank you so much
My biggest complaint with devil survivor is that there are pnly 3 command skills as apposed to 6 skills that can be anything you want
I got into SMT series because i thought every game was like devil survivor. Little did i know devil survivor was just a spin off.
IMO, SMT DS does a lot of things better than the mainline games and one of those is the race system where (almost) each race felt unique and not used as just a fusion mechanic. Definitely one of my all time favorites.
what I love about this game is that it has all the strength of SMT and Persona but almost none of downsides like demon negotiation which is a randomized disaster ( every time I was like " I need to recruit demons shiiiit")
and in this game and sequel you can save people or let them die and in second game you have Fate system which is social link without. restrictions of stats (no you do not have guts, charm and such) in Persona stats exist ONLY to stop you from maxing out all links and if you decide to ignore links there is literally nothing to do in there
and like i said you can let people die imagine letting Kanji or Naoto or any other character die and game continues
also in desu you can refuse to take characters into your team even after you save them which is awesome
for example I don't like Makoto in P5 (she actively is antagonizing MC the moment she appearance and till she gets persona plus thanks to her Kaneshiro has Dirt on MC and I would have loved if there was an option to not help or not take her into the team)
in short Devil Survivor is Persona but better
Loved this game back in the day when i had a NDS, then recently i saw a release trailer for the new SMT and clicked on some of yours and nyarlies vids cause it was suggested. And then i was like oh crap there are more of these games!!! (I did know about persona 5 tho) So now on a emulator playing devil survivor 2 next up strange journey. And having a blast playing em. These games still hold up! Thx for the vids btw or else i wouldnt have known😅.
If you had to choose Devil Survivor DS or Devil Survivor Overcloaked 3DS?
Persona 1 was my first MegaTen game but then Devil Survivor slapped me in the face and give me a hell of a ride after that I go to Devil Survivor 2 and cried at the end
What's your thoughts on DeSu 2 ? I know you have a video about it from way back, but it would be nice to hear your current opinion on DeSu 2 and how it compares to DeSu 1.
I like 2 better just on the basis that Hibiki is a fucking weirdo...and that you can make a status effect build that is viable.
I'm surprised you didn't make mention to Overclocked and the changes it had made to the game.
Oh Fith btw i was gonna say this on the stream today but all the Pokémon talk sent me into a loony state of mind. “Do you not wish someone would translate the books that the original games were based from?”
Exceplenty video as always Fither. I actually got interested in the series and will try to get the games when I can.
Im playing the 3ds version and its amazing
Looking forward to this new series! Loved these games.
I can't believe what happened in the Superdome. Damn
Devil Survivor was my first SMT game. Some of the early boss battles gave me struggles.
SHINJUKUUUUUUUUUU
MAGICAL PUNISHMEEEEEENT
Devil Survivor Overclocked got me back into Jrpgs. Such a great game! One of my favorites. 😊
Thank you paparoni!
(But)
Keisuke is a great edgeboi
personally i found devil survivor 2 to be better but 1 does one up it in some points. like giving more humanized reactions to the situation they're in. though JPs made sure to keep public panic to a minimum.
also, last day for 1 is terrible. i was not ready for tower of babel second form. though in 2 i had the Adim one hit ok the one guy i needed to protect three different times in its second form.
devil survivor is great just finished it yesterday for the first time i somehow managed to save all the characters on my first playthrough tho since i spread my time out i only had 2 endings to pick from running away with yuzu and you know i could not do that since that sounded lame so i went with naoya and kaido and became the overlord to save humanity
My favourite Shin Megami Tensei game, not counting Persona.
I personally liked Devil Survivor 2 a little more thanks to it having a compendium, but both games are total perfection.
There’s a demon compendium in the first game though?
@@ltb1345 There isn't. Overclocked has one, but base DeSu1 doesnt have one
@Dutch Meyer Base game doesnt have one
Now i'm curious about your thoughts on record breaker
Great video! And I do agree, Yuzu is unbearably annoying, but I really liked Midori. Too bad I went for Naoya's ending the first time I played, so I didn't get her with me to the end :(
