I think it’s best to get the cabs you have nostalgia for, are unique or feel better on a cabinet. For me, that’s SF2, MK2 and KI. I love games like Final Fight and TMNT but I don’t need a dedicated cab for those and will just emulate them or play them on a multicade.

      @TboneTenEighties 3 місяці тому

But Final Fight is awesome and so is the A1Up cab. It's one of their early near perfect cabs imo. The 4 games are great and everything just works, well. And being only a two button cab it also has a nice amount of room for the two player set-up. A lot of fun with fam/friends. For me it was a keeper.

I coach my son's teams and when we have the team gatherings... The kids love playing the games... I always said I plan to start letting them go as the kids get older and they aren't played, but who knows... Cause I really enjoy the games as well. Here's my list of units... Blitz, NBA Jam (my favorite)... T2, Me Pac Man, Pac Man, TMNT, Simpsons, Marvel, Killed Instinct, MK, Street Fighter 2, Out Run, Ridge Racer, Star Wars, Marvel Pinball, Ultimate Arcade 2 (Has about 100 games)... Then I Have double arcade hoops, NFL 2 min drill, skeeball, Air Hockey, Pool Table, ping pong, and Bar...😉 We find ourselves hanging out in the basement a lot of weekends. But I appreciate you sharing your insight... Definitely will be interesting to see where my game room ends up.

Nope, not selling mine. I learned my lesson when I bought cartridges dirt cheap for $1 to $3 mostly accross multiple systems. I got rid of them and the price doubled to tripped on just about everything if not more. I had Pokemon Ruby, Emerald and Sapphire for GBA. I paid about $12 for each of them. Now I see them in stores for about $90 in some cases. I also discovered after getting rid of games that over time I wanted them back. If I already have it I'm not throwing it away again getting back a fraction of what I paid just to watch it go up later and missing playing it. I could just play many of the same games on my TV or projector but sometimes there is a sense of nostalgia playing it on an arcade cabinet even if it's not the exact original.

I completely understand where you're coming from. I don't know what going to happen with Arcade1up in the future but the way things are going now they are re-releasing the same title on a years basis. I feel like that devalues a lot of their older cabinets, unfortunately. Maybe one day these will be collectors' items, but unlike cartridges, they do take up alot of space so that's why in my case I needed to ask myself "what cabinets do i actually play" cause the collection element is not there for me anymore....again I do get your point though so I understand why you don't want to sell your

Liberate yourself. At 42, I've sold more than half of all my gaming items and it makes me want to keep going. Dreamcast, Atari, Game Boy, A1Up, things I was holding on to for years or making excuses for. F all this trash, get rid of it while it still has value. Be free of it all and feel the sensation of a burden being lifted. It's extremely satisfying to see extra space after it's gone, far more satisfying than accumulation. I'm hopeful that once you downsize it will encourage you to keep going. Gaming should always only be fun and never a hardship. Cheers and best wishes. Viva Liberation!

I probably will keep Simpsons, Star Wars and sell the rest at some point. The only thing that would ever bring me back into considering 1up would probably be the 720 cab if they made it XL.. it would be hard to pass up for me.. otherwise I'm looking beyond the 1up.. I think MVC2 was the last cab I considered but didn't buy, now with it coming to console and PC/Steam I'm glad I didn't buy that cab, because it will probably be a superior version with rollback netcode.

I used to have two MK cabinets (the first Midway Legacy and the countertop) I loved both and miss them had to sell them for financial reasons, I love fighting games at arcades, I used to go one at a mall when I lived in Atlanta 26 years ago. When Arcade1Up was putting out cabinets even by popular demand, I hoped they could do MK 4, Tekken 3, and Primal Rage to name a few. But those games I suppose feel tricky to emulate especially MK 4. Since they won’t bother collaborating with anyone to find a way to emulate more 3D arcade games I’m just considering to get a arcade PCB boards I already bought the MK 4 board on FB Marketplace just need a few more things like a Supergun and a Jamma board to play it.

Weird , I’ve never had to “upgrade” my arcades. Not 2, 3 , 4x , I just needed to buy them once. Glad you came to your senses. Arcades are meant to be played , not stared at . You watch too much mike B and all the 1up shills who made you think it’s “cool to collect them all”.

Arcades are definitely meant to be played. My past excitement and FOMO for some of the games/cabinets got me buying a lot of cabinets that I thought I'd needed to have, but as time went on they just weren't get played. O well. You’ll still whack you hand on the screen, the games are boring , the trackball sucks, and the thing wobbles like crazy. Save up and get a real GT. And sell a few more 1ups. The legacy GT editions are going for sale cheaper now because the PGA edition is out there. Or just buy the 1up, yet it still won’t fill that GT void

    Steve V.
You know I like you man, you're down to Earth and I love hearing your thoughts on Home Arcades and other cool stuff. However, these "justification" videos don't age well, and I hoped after the last one, it would indeed be the last one. Saying stuff like, I'm not going to sell a bunch of stuff (or upgrade anymore) just to buy everything back, is the exact opposite of your MO. Sure, you might not have done it in bulk (yet), but this is INDEED what you do. The "quality over quantity" justification is very noble, but don't think for a minute that I believe it holds water to stop a buying (or re-buying) cycle from happening again. What you say vs. your history tells a different tale. Doesn't mean the story can't change, but actions and resolve speak much louder than just saying stuff.
Always do what makes you happy, but these types of videos can make you come off as dishonest the more you don't stand behind your portrayal of firm decisions. Doesn't mean you can't change your mind, but then don't make these decisions sound like gospel. I think that's where most of your criticism may come from. My suggestion, if you ever do ponder doing one of these justification videos in the future, go re-watch ALL your past videos first. I think you'll see how sigh inducing a new one might come off. Especially to me who has enjoyed your content for a long time 🙂
The messaging in your videos on this topic, seem like a need for validation from others for mistakes you've made. There is definite regret behind your words. And the reason I take time to write stuff like this, is because I'm right there with you when it comes to collecting. I get so excited to collect something at first, but eventually, it doesn't become about the joy any longer, only the need to get the next new shiny thing, which rarely brings the contentment I long for. It can be an addiction for sure.
When I decided to embark on a journey to build an actual arcade in my house, I decided to do it quite differently than I normally do regarding the collecting aspect. I set some strict rules for myself, which meant I would create groundwork to ensure I wouldn't be able to get them all. I picked a dedicated room, which was purposely one of the smaller rooms in my house, and I would stick with that. For the most part, I've been successful. Not perfect, I did create a small nook of machines in one of my home theater rooms, but I don't have machines all over the house and still only have that one dedicated room as my Home Arcade to this day. And my Home Arcade is filled comfortably to the brim with full sized control machines, 14 in fact, and I couldn't be happier.
The rule I adopted, if I want a new 3/4 scale machine is, if something comes in, something must go out. That means, Arcade1Up, or any other company, is competing with what I already have. And because I was VERY SELECTIVE on what I picked up, I've only given 3 machines away (to my brother) during this whole journey, which began in 2018, and I have yet to buy anything back.
Having no more space for 3/4 scale machines in my Home Arcade, has forced me to get VERY CREATIVE when adding new game experiences to my space. Whether it be mods to add new software games to my existing 3/4 scale cabinets, or if I want new cabinets that look the part, which I've incorporated 1/4 and 1/6 scale machines from companies like Numskull and New Wave Toys. And I'm not talking about setting these smaller replicas in a mini arcade diorama in some corner, I'm talking strategically placing them all about my Home Arcade. I've been BLOWN AWAY at how these smaller machines trick the eye to make it seem like I have more physical machines in my space. SO AWESOME!
So, I guess I'll just leave you with this bit of advice. Don't voice to the masses of why Steve V. does what he does, just do what Steve V. do and celebrate just the end results with the rest of us. Concentrate on your speculations, reviews, and geeking out with the community and avoid voicing commitments that lack resolve and play you as the fool. None of us are perfect, but honesty and integrity mean something even in often trivial stuff like hobbies.
Have a WONDERFUL upcoming holiday! Steve V. Mancave forever!
    vgv

      Hey VGV,
Thank you as always for taking the time to write such great comments. I respect what you're saying and holding me accountable for some of the statements I've made in the past regarding my collection.
I've definitely had some moments where I've sold cabinets and then regretted my decision weeks or months later. I can't prove to you how this time will be different even though I know it is hahah but time will tell that story. I love Arcade1up and love this hobby, so that hasn't changed. I'm just entering a new chapter in this amazing pastime that has brought me a lot of joy. If I play it, I'll keep it and enjoy playing it till the wheels come off, hah. If I don't play it, I know there are people out there looking for those cabinets that will get more joy from it than I'm get currently. The collecting aspect is truly out of my system. That I know for sure. But my love for arcades and retro gaming will never go away. That's in my blood. I'll do my best to make some fun videos regarding this hobby as I go forward and can't wait to reviewing the GoldenTee Deluxe when I purchase that later in the year.
Take care and have a great week VGV
