    Just a note... The simon must still be available July 2021 The Compression Sock Store on 13th and 59th Street in Brooklyn Sold me one. Next If you cannot reach the end of your feet because of mobility issues, you can load the sock and stand with the donner slighly behind you. Bend your leg up and slip it into the donner. Grab the handle and pull it up and the sock will easily go on. In fact this is way easier than doing it from a sitting position.

      Hello! Where can I get the Simon? I'm in Georgia. I ordered a Jobst from Amazon and haven't gotten it yet. I've never used one of these. I used to put the socks on by hand. I think I need one now. People talk about them, but never where to get one and the videos are OLD. I got excited when I saw yours. Sure do hope I hear from you. How much did yours cost?

    My husband can easily put his on using just rubber grip gloves and a rubber mat he slides his heal over to get it tightly over his foot. He sits in a chair and gets the sock on his foot first, then pulls it up with gloves and skidding foot on mat. This saved me from helping him daily. I dont have to pull it off at night though. The compression stock stor charged us $38 for the mat though! We also bought a sleve that is like this device on yhe video but had 2 rope handles to pull sock on. Husband found he can do it without using that.

    I bought that and still have problems putting on my compression socks. A skinny guy makes it look so easy but it should be a much bigger person doing the demonstration without practice , like when you do it for the first time.

    Thank you for your video! It helps me a lot. I have just got varicose vein surgery and I had no clue how to wear compression stocking independently. It is really difficult to wear copression stocking without help. Now I know. Thanks for your video.

    You are right Joe. All our patients start out with edema. We recommend reducing the swelling before you get fitted for compression socks. That way you get proper fit. If you don't have access to a Lymphedema Therapy clinic you can use a Farrow wrap ( www.selfcaretherapy.com/product/farrow-wrap-basic-below-knee/ ) to reduce the swelling. Then get properly fitted compression garments. Even so, it takes some training for most of our patients to learn to use the Simon. It's not for everyone. The key is to find the device that works best for your situation. This is only one option. You can see other options here www.selfcaretherapy.com/shop/

    All these techniques to put on one sock at a time but how do you put on compression pantyhose? I cant lift my legs or bend over to get one foot in the stocking without closing off my airway....as I have copd so bending over is a nightmare. The swelling goes down while I am sleeping but the minute I put my feet in my slippers to run to the bathroom the swelling is already up. I see one woman wore rubber gloves, doesnt that make it harder to put the pantyhose on and to pull up? Willing to give it a try but doesnt seem very logical at this point.

    I agree with the comments, and what about compression pantyhose? How would these devices work for that?

    • @Selfcaretherapy
      @Selfcaretherapy  5 років тому

      I have not found a great invention for pantyhose yet. If anyone has, please share on this thread so we can look into it. It is possible to use this device to get started on pantyhose. That is to get the foot and calf portions on. Medi has a butler for pantyhose. www.medi.de/en/products/medi-pantyhose-butler/ It can help with the foot and calf also, but you still need to pull manually over the knee, thigh, and hips. There is also a skin lubricant that can be very helpful with pantyhose. Just a couple of drops on the skin will make the fabric slide easier. Combine with good rubber grip gloves to help move the fabric. www.selfcaretherapy.com/product/alps-silicone-lubricant/

    Just curious, any suggestions for those with weak hand strength from things like RA? My issue is getting the socks onto the devise to start with.

    • @Selfcaretherapy
      @Selfcaretherapy  4 роки тому +1

      First: The Simon comes in different sizes. The smaller the size the easier it is to get the sock on the device. However, the device has to be big enough to fit over your calf. But make sure to get the smallest size you can. Also, use gloves with rubber grip like these www.selfcaretherapy.com/product/sigvaris-donning-gloves/. Use the grip in the palm of your hand rather than fingertips to save your joints. Second: If that does not work for you. Look into the Doff N Donner. www.selfcaretherapy.com/product/doff-n-donner-kit/. You can use a rubber mat on the floor and a reacher if it is difficult to reach. This method takes much less strength but a load of patience and training to learn the technique. Once mastered it does work well since you use more leg strength for the hardest part. Here's a video that shows this technique. ua-cam.com/video/ZqfIIxN8pF4/v-deo.html

    All these videos show skinny legs. How about one with edema? On top of that, I just had a knee replacement.

    • @Selfcaretherapy
      @Selfcaretherapy  4 роки тому

      That is true about the skinny legs. I would like to record a patient using it at some point. The purpose of the video is to show how it works. It does come in several different sizes. About legs with edema. We treat our patients and reduce the edema before we attempt compression garments. I recommend finding a good Lymphedema Therapy Clinic to help reduce the edema first. Compression garments do not work well for reducing but are designed for maintaining size. An alternative for reducing edema without a therapist would be an adjustable garment like the Farrow wrap. You can see it here. www.selfcaretherapy.com/product/farrow-wrap-basic-below-knee/. Another alternative after knee replacement is the Doff N Donner since it is more gentle on the healing wound. ua-cam.com/video/ZqfIIxN8pF4/v-deo.html

    When I put my foot into the stocking and push down the stocking begins pulling up so I end up with the heal mid foot. Any idea how to keep this from happening?

    • @randomnesspersonified
      @randomnesspersonified 2 роки тому

      I wish I had a helpful reply to this. I find the only way we can get the heal in the right place is for my son to hold onto the actual stocking when it's on the frame, before I put my foot into it, which kind of defeats the object of having the gadget to get the stockings on - I feel your pain! If he doesn't hold it, it always ends up exactly as you stated, which is a pest.

    • @randomnesspersonified
      @randomnesspersonified 2 роки тому

      I just had an idea. Extreme caution should be used IF you decided to try this, and it would obviously be at your own risk, ask your health professional's opinion, all the usual caveats. I'm going to try to remember to do a test when we change my stockings some time soon, depending on how pushed we are for time it may be a day or two if we just need to get them on and get out the door etc.
      My idea was: You can get very large thick rubber bands for stationery purposes, and I'm wondering if I were to: (1) apply the stocking to the gadget and then (2) apply a couple of rubber bands around the outside of the gadget frame over the top of the stocking, whether the rubber bands might be strong enough to keep the stocking in place on the frame until my heel hits the floor. Then remove the rubber bands and pull the rest of the stocking up as normal. Maybe, I don't know. I would be taking extreme care to make sure the rubber bands never come into contact with my legs, of course - delicate skin etc. It could be worth a try. I'm sure my son gets bored with having to help me put the stockings on, bless him. If you are interested in how I get on with the experiment, perhaps drop a comment so that I can remember to come back and let you know, if you like. I'm sure there's probably something I haven't thought of which is a drawback to this idea when you come to actually DO this, but I'll at least give it a try I think. All the best, the struggle is real!

      You should put the heal of the stockings at the right place. Do not push the stockings completely as in the video on to the toes. But put half of the heal on the edge.. If this is not completely the right place a little more down or up ,.. just try it.

    Will these work on thigh highs

    • @Selfcaretherapy
      @Selfcaretherapy  3 роки тому

      Yes. The device will help get a thigh high on up to the calf. You do need to manualy pull the rest up. Often times the most difficult part is to get the foot portion on. If the thigh portion is a challenge you can use a silicone lubricant on the skin to help the fabric slide on with less friction. www.selfcaretherapy.com/product/alps-silicone-lubricant/

    Not trying to be overly critical but I don't understand why you put this on over a sock and over your pants. I know that's not how they're meant to be wore. But some folks follow every thing. If you're self-conscious about your foot or leg get someone else for future videos.
