I got a 22 mt03 last spring and I never took the msf course and it's a perfect beginner bike. It's fast off the line and a top speed of 105 is great
SAME! Might i add if your 6ft or taller MT03 may not be the right choice. im 511'
I'm 5'10" and it fits me perfectly.
In 2019 I bought a 2018 Ninja 400 it was my first bike. I still have it and love it! Best beginner bike imo.

Merry Christmas CycleCruza. I'd definitely recommend a MT03 or the R3. If in the city and do tons of inner city riding I'd go with the MT03. If you commute on the highway I'd say go with the R3. The windscreen on the R3 will help massively with wind when in full tuck. Since riding a lightweight low CC bike you can be pushed around by cross winds on the highway.
Back when I started riding, early 90s, there might have been beginner bikes but you didn't see much at the dealership, one of the reasons my first bike was a 93 CBR900
Yeah back then all they had was a wimpy Rebel 250. lol However, they did have a pretty cool 1990 Honda CBR250RR (double arr!!) with an inline four engine that is a rare collector's bike now. My late brother had a cbr900rr, man that bike was EPIC back then. That was when Honda made exciting street bikes. I was the biggest Honda fanboy back in the day, now a Yamaha fan boy. lol
In the 90s I wanted a Honda Night Hawk 250. I was fresh out of school and those ads in every magazine for $2300 really made me want to ride. Never got a bike until this year, an int650. Every time I’m on fb market and a Nighthawk pops up it makes my heart skip a beat.

The klx300 supermoto is an ideal beginner bike in my eyes. Very light so ideal for practicing slow speed maneuvering and if it fall there's less possibility for serious damage due to the very light weight. Power to weight ratio will also be good and ofcourse it's super reliable. And I'm not even going to get started on how much more fun a supermoto is compared to a 'normal' motorcycle😁😁

Man, those gloves, wish I had them yesterday morning at 7, it was 32 degrees on the police sign in Daytona Beach Shores, had hot hands but my fingers were hurting. Going up to the 70's next week. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year. After I got out of the House of Pain recently the Grom was a godsend, any light bike would be, for older guys.

I got an MT07 for my first bike. Not in US, so didn't do MSF class, but got my bike license. MT07 is a great beginner bike :)

The CBR650R is the BEST beginner bike “that you can grow into” imo and is also a piece of art you can grow into. That 4 into 1 exhaust alone makes it super attractive down low like the rest of the bike. Inline 4 means It’s tame as hell until higher revs. Any twin will be far torquier down low which means you can safely grow into it without risking much but still have a 94hp bike when you’ve progressed in skill

gotta disagree just on the MT03 & the r3…they’re great in a vacuum but the Duke 390 and the z400 are the starter naked bikes that whoop the r3/mt03 imo and the RC390 & ninja 400 are the sport versions to go with for sure. Although if you want bigger the SV650 & the Ninja 650 makes a Lot of sense. But I agree the mt07 is pushing it unless you’re real mature.
Learning to be a hooligan is what dirt bikes are for, no need to start on super heavy bikes

I recommend beginners start out on a 125cc then gradually work your way up the power levels. As a baby you crawl before you can walk then run
There are no full size street frame 125s that I can think of in the North American market. CB125 was phased out decades ago. There are some dirtbikes and mopeds like a Cub, Monkey or Grom, but the street riding skills aren't being built on riding those minibikes.
Even the street 250s were phased out 7 years ago in most lines. You may still find a new Vstar250, but most lines have converted their 250 commuters and sportbikes to 300s, 350s and 400s.
I think a 75 hp bike as a beginner bike is questionable IF you never ridden before at all, especially if you’ve never used a clutch or shifter in a car. If you rode dirt bikes in a lot for hours you probably got it. MSF teaches you how to drive in a parking lot at slow speeds if this is you you’re probably not ready. I wanted a CF MOTO CLX sport. Got a RE INT 650. Smart decision but probably could have went smaller. Zero experience here.
IDK if a MT03 will work for me at 5' 9" and 260ish.

I started riding in 1982 and after many years of gsxr 1000, cbr 1000, R1, Hayabusa etc. I am now upgrading to a Ninja 400. Its light, comfortable, handles well and goes as fast as I care to now that speed is no longer important to me.
