Cruffins: an easy recipe to make them at home!

  • Serve them hot with powdered sugar, they are addictive! INGREDIENTS
    200 g (7 oz) flour;
    30 g (1 oz) sugar;
    1/3 cup warm milk;
    1 egg;
    1 tsp dry yeast;
    2 tbsp warm water;
    a pinch of salt;
    1 tbsp vegetable oil;
    ½ cup butter, room temperature.
    METHOD
    Whisk yeast with warm water, 1 tsp sugar and half of the warm milk.
    In a separate bowl whisk an egg with leftover milk, vegetable oil and a pinch of salt. Add yeast solution and flour.
    Knead the dough until smooth (around 5-7 minutes), then cover and set aside for 1 hour to rise.
    Cut the dough into thirds and roll each one into a thin rectangle, making sure it is almost see through.
    Cover the dough sheet with a third of butter, making sure to spread it into an even layer.
    Roll each buttered sheet of the dough into a roll, cover and set aside for 20 minutes.
    Cut each roll in half lengthwise and roll into a snail-shaped bun as shown on the video.
    Place each bun into a prepared muffin tin and bake at 190C/375F for 20-25 minutes or until golden.
    Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar.

    Hi,
    the ingredients do not match the video, for example they ask for 1/3 cup of milk when preparing the dry yeast and in the video they put milk to the preparation of the egg ... the recipe says the rest of the milk, but there is no left over. Can you please clarify this?

      It is telling you the measurements as they are being mixed. In the instruction it tells you to use half the milk to bloom your yeast and then you use the rest to mix with milk.

      If you follow the video, you put all the milk at once in the small recipient, and not half of it. Then you are surprised to see she puts something looking like milk ( not sure what it is) since the video doesn't say what it is nor the quantity. So you look at the description below the video to realize what you should do. Do not follow the video, but read the instructions first to make sure you keep half of the milk to mix with the eggs.

    I'm making these right now for breakfast. When do you add the 30 gr of sugar? I don't see it mentioned in the recipe nor in the video. I finally added it to the flour. Thank you.

      Thinking of making them today.. Yes a bit fast but I think so long as you activate the yeast with some warm milk with sugar first you could just put everything in.. I make doughnuts a lot and thats what I do and its a similar dough.. Let's see what happens!

    I made these but there is no flavour! I put some cinnamon sugar on after I spread the butter and also tried with a good handful of dried fruit and mixed peel. A layer of Hazelnut or chocolate spread instead of butter would be much better for flavour. 😁

      Butter isn't only for flavor - it makes the dough flaky and gives it that layered look like a croissant. You can dress them up any way you want - make a small hole and pipe in jelly, or custard etc or just roll in sugar while still warm.
