I respect this brand a lot. I don't think the LFA as a tech development project lost money. In fact the instrument cluster is used in the F Sport versions
Even the asking price (at its launch) was so much damn insufficient to recoup their money back then. Lexus is basically bleeding money here (despite being a Toyota) and even now, accounting to inflation, they probably haven't recouped their money spent on 5 years of R&D and testing, and another 4 years of starting over again for R&D when they switched to carbon fiber (and heck, it even cost one of their prolific Toyota racer/engineer their life while testing the LFA.)
It seems all these car manufacturers have their genius moments at some point in their existence. I would love to see a documentary of each brands pinnacle of engineering genius.
@@flamespittinported13b6 Agreed, wich one would be the other 2? I think Volvo T5R Estate, cream yellow and the new Toyota GR Yaris. Polestar 1 could also be there...
Because every car maker is climbing into the electric bandwagon, I have a bad feeling that probably we won´t hear again any vehicle that makes such an epic noise as the LFA.
TG honestly is the best thing ever happened on tv to me with no doubt. Such a brilliant montage and beautiful script I never filled so much attached to any series or movies like that.
I agree with you. He has put out a lot of different content in his time both in print and on film, but I like this film because it’s the heart of the matter an automotive journalism. This is the nucleus of car journalism, it’s about test driving a car and and finding out if you can live with it and if you can fall in love with it.
Do you think that the fact that it is flawed makes it more interesting, than if everything has been perfect including the cupholders and the seatbelt latch.
The LFA is the closest thing you car guys can get to understanding what us motorcycle riders feel when we ride. Granted, Yamaha helped build the v10 so of course they’re going to make the heart of the car an unbelievably sentient motor. It sounds like the first Gen R1s almost the way it falls down in the gears and then picks right back up again
I love how Jeremy describes the lfa as a 'sad animal'. I would assume that he is implying that it's under constant suffering. I reckon it sounds like a wolf that howls a really high pitch. It sounds like the r8 gt from horizon one at 6000rpm and that is the best thing about it.
This engine. THIS NOISE. Is it the fastest? No. Does it have the quickest acceleration? No. But, do you need to go more than 200 mph? Hmm, nope. Do you need to go from 0 to 60 in less than 3.7 seconds? Probably not. Is it overpriced? Absolutely, too much, even if I had the money, I probably wouldn't get one. But... there is something really rather special about it. The bond you make with it, the way it handles, the way it drives. And the soundtrack the engine is producing, that's the best you can get, absolutely no denying that. It's so pure. And it really is something you can't make twice.
McLaren F1 ? Veyron ? I think those two are more likely to be pinnacles of engineering of their times than a supercars that only is different because of how insanely good it sounds
@@tungabunga4107 thats out of the subject. We get it, you can’t recognize that something you don’t like is good. The Veyron is a revolution, the LFA isn’t. That’s a fact that you can’t deny.
After watching this video,im grateful to be alive since i hear lexus lfa engine sound which is underrated supercar since 2010 and now several people are realize and regret underestimate this car after they watching this video.
The Lexus lfa where it actually seemed like a super car was designed by people who genuinely enjoy driving cars not just staring at the paper in which it shows all the specs
Akio Toyoda (the heir of the Toyota name, of course, and also the CEO at the time) was personally involved in the development and even raced in it during the 24h of the Nurburgring.
Fun fact. When Lexus was designing the engine, (i believe specifically the intake manifold) they took Yamaha onboard to specifically design it in a very deliberate way to make it sound as good as humanly possible. That was the goal from the beginning. And they damn did manage to pull that off. They actually designed the engine like they would engineer a musical instrument.
Now THIS is what happens when Lexus/Toyota make a super car. Becomes an absolute GOAT car that will never be matched until Lexus/Toyota decide to play around and make another.
I always liked these cars, and wondered why they weren't more popular ( I geuss $375k is kinda hard to swallow for a Toyota) Had the opportunity to drive one and fully understand why he likes them so much. Compared to Ferraris and Lamborghinis that I have driven as well, these cars seem so much more refined. Not to mention the price and cost of maintenance associated with the aforementioned. I wish I had the ability to purchase one and would assume the cost should only increase in the future. I in fact just saw the same car on the road in town where I live last week, so the owner has smartly held onto it. It's a black beauty for sure. Great video!
People forget it's not *just* about the sound Yes, they put a lot of effort in getting the raw sound into the driver's ears Yes, it plays a huge part in how you feel the car But the feeling itself... this must be out of this world

Carerra GT?
Straight piped F50
And the Zonda
Sadly the current F1 car sounds like vacuum cleaners.
no matter how fast and efficient EVs will become, nothing compares to this sound. and there are many really good sounding cars and bikes. EVs just can't give you that feeling.
it's art.
it's magic.
I wonder how EV would sound If Yamaha would design it...🤔
@@ilkkak3065 it would sound fake.
And yet Lexus will impress the world with the successor of the LFA
@@H_AK will impress the people for 20 minutes before they forget about it
This is not a car review.
This is a love letter.
Very well put 👌
Literally one of the best sounding car in the world alongside the Murcielago. It's just majestic.
All the character, all the beauty, all the excellence in engineering, of the LFA is in that V10 engine!
I respect this brand a lot.
I don't think the LFA as a tech development project lost money. In fact the instrument cluster is used in the F Sport versions
This is what happens when Toyota actually rnd’s a super car. They will do it again soon and I’m so excited to see what is next😈
@@MRcalache2 Check the new GR GT3 concept
Search the UA-cam channel the squid for some of them
Clarkson to the world : this is the best car I've ever driven.
Lexus to all other car manufacturers : we won.
There is no better endorsement in the world than Clarkson saying it is the best car he has ever driven.
The engineers that made this car genuinely had a passion for creating something perfect
Glad you made this one 👍👍
This car is in my dream 10 car garage. No questions asked.
it's in my 3 car dream garage, and my first pick without a doubt if I were to choose one of those 3 cars
@@flamespittinported13b6 Agreed, wich one would be the other 2? I think Volvo T5R Estate, cream yellow and the new Toyota GR Yaris. Polestar 1 could also be there...
@@goedendag5335 A v12 Lamborghini(either a gated manual Murcielago or an Aventador SVJ) and a stock gtr r34
@@goedendag5335 problem is: the Polestar 1 is electric
A white LFA and a SG Forester XT. That's all i need
Because every car maker is climbing into the electric bandwagon, I have a bad feeling that probably we won´t hear again any vehicle that makes such an epic noise as the LFA.
Don't count the GMA T.50 out just yet: ua-cam.com/video/P3DVUYTeOyQ/v-deo.html
Yep, they've just announced they're making an electric "lfa"
2022.. Still the best sounding car I have ever heard. 👌🙌
TG honestly is the best thing ever happened on tv to me with no doubt. Such a brilliant montage and beautiful script I never filled so much attached to any series or movies like that.
7:05 " this car simply out of this world"
Jeremy is born to do car journalism and he does that. Very few people find that spot.
I agree with you.
He has put out a lot of different content in his time both in print and on film, but I like this film because it’s the heart of the matter an automotive journalism.
This is the nucleus of car journalism, it’s about test driving a car and and finding out if you can live with it and if you can fall in love with it.
Lexus simultaneously making both the best car in the world and the worst car in the world for the top gear team.
Never let them know your next move 👀
Do you think that the fact that it is flawed makes it more interesting, than if everything has been perfect including the cupholders and the seatbelt latch.
Lexus lost millions in engineering this masterpiece, but earned trillions in admiration and respect.
One of the best car videos i have seen in my entire life.
Jeremy: I don't understand this car!
*Proceeds to fall in love with it*
I love how Jeremy describes the lfa as a 'sad animal'. I would assume that he is implying that it's under constant suffering. I reckon it sounds like a wolf that howls a really high pitch. It sounds like the r8 gt from horizon one at 6000rpm and that is the best thing about it.
Nah it sounds like it is crying
He’s hard to impress and even with all its flaws I will say in my opinion it has one of the best sounding car engines I’ve ever heard.
Everyone else: “Best sounding car”
Me: “There is literally no other car that I would call the pinnacle of engineering of its time”
McLaren F1 ? Veyron ? I think those two are more likely to be pinnacles of engineering of their times than a supercars that only is different because of how insanely good it sounds
@@sponge2479 alright, you right, but I’d say LFA gets second place for the 2010s!
@@sponge2479 how is the veyron the pinnacle of engineering just because it goes 260-ish mph 🙄
@@sponge2479 where tf u gonna use that 1000hp to go 256mph? in the lfa you can at least use its engineering on the daily.
@@tungabunga4107 thats out of the subject. We get it, you can’t recognize that something you don’t like is good. The Veyron is a revolution, the LFA isn’t. That’s a fact that you can’t deny.
£350,000 sounds like a bargain now!
But now is £500/600.000
The price is above 1 million USD. We have the brown one. (;
Nurburgring version is now 1.5 million dollars
LEXUS 👌🏻😎 FIRST CLASS QUALITY 😎👍🏻 THE PERFECTION
After watching this video,im grateful to be alive since i hear lexus lfa engine sound which is underrated supercar since 2010 and now several people are realize and regret underestimate this car after they watching this video.
That is the best exhaust note I've ever heard...plus it's RAPID QUICK...Love it....
4:54 How can someone not get chills.....
RIGHT??? Here's the crazy part, the music division of Yamaha (which makes Pianos) worked w/ Toyota/Lexus to develop that sound of the motor.
the LFA is going to be a classic. what an awesome car
0:18 woulda been 3x better if he said “AN racing car”
The history revolving around this car is itself legendary
The Lexus lfa where it actually seemed like a super car was designed by people who genuinely enjoy driving cars not just staring at the paper in which it shows all the specs
Akio Toyoda (the heir of the Toyota name, of course, and also the CEO at the time) was personally involved in the development and even raced in it during the 24h of the Nurburgring.
That's the perfect word to describe it. "Exquisite"
You must always remember that the man who tuned the LFA, passionately died on the job!
ua-cam.com/video/W1L8qGKDuVw/v-deo.html
at first i hated it, later after learning the story & others like others i fell in love with this car forever
How can you hate it? This thing is a marvel of engineering.
Bravo @Mustang150.
Very well put together compilation 👏
He said it's the best car he's ever driven. Whoa, that's huge. Great video!
Of all the cars released in my lifetime, this is the one I wanted most, perhaps tied with the 2000 NSX.
There’s another in development as we speak.
You forget the YAMAHA's Contribution designing the engine and the exhaust.
Jeremy: "I just don't understand this car"
Also Jeremy: "...It's the best car I've ever driven."
Thanks for uploading. I love this car. When Clarkson says it's the best car he's ever driven, with a lump in his throat, I can tell he means it.
All these years on it is still one of the best cars ever made
Love this car man❤
The holy grail of cars.
Now where did I put that spare £350,000.
People forget it's not *just* about the sound
Yes, they put a lot of effort in getting the raw sound into the driver's ears
Yes, it plays a huge part in how you feel the car
But the feeling itself... this must be out of this world
For Jeremy Clarkson to say "This is the best car I've ever driven" - that's like Simon Cowell saying "This is the best singer I've ever heard"... unbelievable
The Vanquish and the LFA are both such timeless, naturally aspirated classics
Whoever rendered all these moments is a legend
I'm gonna say it, it's the best car i've never driven :')
amazingly worthless post
It’s one of those cars that seems to be more than the sum of its parts, you can hear the passion and dedication they put into it every time you hit the gas pedal.
The redemption arc of the Lexus LFA to Jeremy was quite special. Jeremy went from doubting everything about it to becoming one of his favorite cars ever devised.
