Don't eliminate dishwashers in your new home. The offer the advantage of sterilizing your dishware when people are sick. It will stop the spread of sickness.
I have watched people on UA-cam rinse dishes then put in dish washer,just wash them in the 1st place,saves on water and electricity.
Always washes my dishes by hand.❤❤❤
I would definitely recommend keeping the 2 dishwashers. My parents had a restaurant and the temperature of the water in the dishwasher is really important. There’s no way that you can get sink water as hot as the dishwasher. Your dishes are not going to be as clean. With a big family, I think that this is a big consideration. You can also end up using more water by washing dishes by hand. Just something to consider!
Bleach is a great added bonus for washing dishes in the sink lol

Dishwashers are very eco friendly, especially for a large family. A dishwasher will use as little as 3 gallons of water vs handwashing which can be up to 27 gallons per load.
I come from a family of Ten. Always washed dishes by hand. Always rinse your dishes well after use. Stack nice. And fill a sink with hot water and lots of soap. Alot of people have no idea how to wash dishes. I see people wash each dish under running water and never fill the sink with water. It is shocking to me.
When I am cooking, I fill a sink of water and wash as I dirty dishes. Helps a ton.
I have a large stainless rack and draining board. Best investment I ever made.
I never used the dishwasher when my kids were growing up because they did their homework on the kitchen table after dinner and I did the dishes then and the kids always shared things from their day - it was a bonding time.
We switched things up and gave 3 of our children the master bedroom while we took over a smaller bedroom. It forced us to be more minimalist. Best thing ever. They now have a bigger and neater space for all their things.

Personally, I would not go without the dishwasher :) if building I would put 1 in.
Back in the mid-70's we lived on Okinawa, Japan. I was one of four children, and while we were there, my younger brother was adopted. We also had three extra girls living with us, for various reasons. That put 8 kids in a four bedroom house. My parents gave back the military issued beds, and bought us all futons (folded into thirds, no bedstead), and gave us each a blanket and pillow. We would get up in the morning, fold up the bed and blanket, and put the blanket and pillow on top of the folded bed. We had room to play and move and you had to clean up the floor in order to go to bed. Worked well for us. The neighbors who started with six and left with 12 kids had the bunkbed situation. (we all had the same house of course) It was totally cramped and hard to get and keep clean.
You all had the same house? Was it like apartments you mean?
@mckinneyfam7705 military housing. Duplexes but they were all laid out and finished the same (same sinks, floors, door, ect) the family with 12 lived in the duplex next to us. Between those 2 duplexes, there were 4 families with 28 kids. Fun times, they.
My daughter son in law & Grand children have lived in Okinawa for the past 7 years. I know they have been in the same home for this time. It’s not big, but they make it work.

I absolutely LOVE & MISS Oki! My dream is to move back there for the rest of my life. Was there with military for years and it’s (to me) the world best kept secret of paradise. My home here in the states is designed as such. Simplicity, elegant, comfort and inviting. I’m blessed….
My husband's grandmother taught me to keep a dishpan with water and soap always so as use something wash it! Never had a dishwasher and love doing dishes by hand aka my meditation time, space.
I didn’t get a dishwasher until my children were adult age at that point we never relied on it and still don’t. It’s nice to have one though great full for it still.
I love all your new ideas for you but not me :) I lived so many years without a dishwasher that I will never give it up. I always felt the dishes were not clean when they were hand-washed and to be honest you use more water hand washing than in the dishwasher. Microwave is another convenience that I like to have. Our microwave is new and has many new-fangled buttons that allow you to do lots of different types of cooking including convection.
Put up some 2x4’s and hang some sheetrock to enclose the loft. If you want to see into the living room install a window or barn door in the wall. Or put in an accordion door that opens if you want the loft overlook to remain as is.
In my opinion, enclosing the room would be a great asset to the home. Lofts are a waste of enclosed space.
Consider putting a 2nd door into the bathroom for access from another bedroom or from the hallway if possible.
Great idea! I was thinking even hanging a couple curtains that can slide open and closed would be a cheap option too.
I handwash everything and I use my dishwasher as a drying rack!! it is great
I have to have my dishwasher its such a very big help to me , I cook , wash and clean by myself so im very busy and 74 ! Yikes dis i say that also i have 3 others in the home 😂❤ love your family and you always do so well in managing your family , i had 7 children many many years ago 😊miss and loved that time , it went to fast 😢
Wonderful ideas....I've never had a dishwasher ever ...I've always done them by hand ...We gave up the microwave 3 years ago when our old one broke ..My kitchen is small and I needed the extra counter space ...Really don't miss it ...Also my children have all moved out .We turned one bedroom into the dining room so I use the closet to store all my canning supplies ..large counter top appliances ..and just pull them out when t hey are needed
We’ve been hand washing dishes for over 10 years. ❤❤ it’s cleaner no residue on dishes and no pre washing. Just wash and be done. We never used a microwave. We love good tasting food.
I have always washed my dishes but with being a caregiver to my parents, I'm 62 and I have given myself a little grace and use the dishwasher on Friday to be ready for Shabbat!!

I agree I think kitchen stays cleaner when you handwashing dishes because usually you wipe off counter and stove sweep and mop floors , and I hate unloading dishwasher
When we redid our kitchen over 25 years ago we put two diswashers in. I thought it was excessive. but it's been the best thing!
I don’t use my dishwasher either anymore! Myself and now my kids are the dishwashers lol.
I also made some bedroom switch-aroos. My 2 girls are in my master bedroom, and I’m in one of their old rooms, and my son is in the other room. People think I’m crazy to give up my master bedroom, but it works out so much better with my son (21 months).

Each to his own. Most of our almost 55 years of married life we've washed dishes by hand. As our kids were growing up in the Philippines and Colombia they learned to dry them and put them away. When they reached third grade they had learned to strike the matches, light the flame under the burners, heat the water, and pour it into the basin for washing the dishes. Yes, there was usually an adult handy for the smaller ones, but by the time they were grown they were very experienced.
In the last few years we moved into a house with a dishwasher. I did not use it until many of the church ladies encouraged me to try. We now run it about once a week, and really enjoy it.
We were one of the first families overseas to have a microwave. It was excellent for saving energy, and we all learned to cook all kinds of food in it--when we had electricity. I learned lots about complementary cooking--where preparing a dish would utilize the microwave for some steps and the stove for others. We still do this to the present day and I LOVE having my microwave right above my stove.
I'm so glad you got to see Japan and brought home ideas. Different things work for different people. We only had four kids, so that was very different from you. Now we are two people, and different things work in different situations. I enjoyed watching this, though.
I haven’t had a microwave in 15 years. I don’t miss it. I do have a dishwasher, it’s separated into 2 drawers where I can do a half load, I believe a dishwasher is more economical for both water and dish soap, it also runs at a very high temperature reducing the risk of bacteria and spreading germs.
We don't have a diswasher in our current home, and I don't miss it at all. 🙂
The dishwasher sanitizes the dishes so with a big family I would want that.
Transitioning to a Murphy bed was the best idea for my house hold! I hope that’s an option! Note: they do have king size options!

I learned from a friend,
She doesn’t use her dishwasher either.
She washes them by hand and places them in the dishwasher to air dry . Leaving the dishwasher cracked open until they are dry .
It leaves the countertop clear 🤗
I love traveling to see the way others live. UA-cam is good for that but immersion is great
We still need our dishwasher. We’re a family of 10 and we get backed up so bad. I actually wash dishes while the dishwasher is on!!
I use my dishwasher because it uses less water in my septic tank and higher heat to sanitize the dishes. I just found less viruses in the house. My kids were never sick. I don’t have seperate sink.
One other thing, you will use more water hand washing than using the dishwasher. This is a proven fact. So it will raise your water bill doing without the washer. Hope this helps.
Except she said they are doing lots of dishes every day anyway. Same at my house. I was twice a day by hand, skillets, pots strainers cutting boards. My knives shouldn’t go in the dishwasher either

Only thing I miss my microwave for is popcorn but I learned to make it on the stove. I dont have enough counter space for a microwave. Air fryer is what I use and I love it your right food tastes better. I even bake in my air fryer.
I put everything in the dishwasher even pots and pans but we have only 2 children at the moment. The reason we use the dishwasher is water consumption. Plus we live way further north than you do and get very dry hands if we do dishes by hand. Suppose to hit -40 this week and so there's not much humidity left in the house. Lol
We definitely don't have a dishwasher. It makes a good chore for my older kids. My husband and I bought a bed lower on the ground almost on the ground, best thing ever. We are not having back problems anymore, it's also making recovery from excersise better, out muscle mass is better. I was also inspired in Taiwan less is more we also only eat meat once a week. I've put up floating book shelves.

My dishwasher broke over a year ago and I haven’t replaced it. I find it easier to just do the dishes by hand. I also have a large multi use toaster oven that I use all the time. It find it so convenient to use in the summer and it doesn’t heat up the house. I will never not have one. Best purchase ever!

Just a Sunday lunch can easily be 20 people-assuming half the kids have partners and a couple have a friend over.
And holidays if all the kids come back with partners and children.., oh boy lolol!
Also, once you are older it will be harder to wash dishes and pots… I see my mom now who has arthritis and water makes her hand swell!
She has a dishwasher-never uses it but we were a family of 4.. now they are 2.

The toaster oven thing is so true. Before I started living with my wife I used to always reheat food in the microwave. But since then my wife showed me how much better reheated food tastes when you heat it up in the oven and since then I never looked back.
In my current kitchen and previous kitchen, I deliberately positioned the dishwasher at the end of a long counter so it was against the end wall with the sink beside it. In that location, there is never any reason to walk around the open door and, thus, no shin bumping. In both kitchens, there is a large window in the end wall only inches above the dishwasher. This floods the sink with sunlight, and I don't miss a window behind my sink at all. I'm now planning my next kitchen, and the dishwasher up against an end wall is my top priority.
You can put a screeen at the railing overlooking the living room in your bedroom so you can have more privacy. A sliding glass door could also solve the lack of door problem, and it occupies much less space than a swinging door.
You may want to run the dishwasher every so often, just to keep it functioning. When left to sit, the rubber seals and other parts deteriorate. Love the new ideas for your home. 💙

Also, I clean out disherwasher with special tablet that you run monthly or every other month to remove odors and buildup

I agree with you. We replaced a dishwasher years ago due to it not being used for awhile and it just stopped functioing.
For us, we have a microwave but really never use it- it will stay because it’s built in over the stove. We still use a dishwasher because it uses much less water than washing by hand and we are very into sustainability/resource management. But I hand wash all our pots and pans- so a bit of both here

I'm from a family of 6 total and we haven't had a working dishwasher in close to 8 years now. We stopped buying them because they would break every 18 months and it was $600-$800 every time and we would buy the special solutions and do our best to take care of them and they would still break. We of course always had soap and dish pads so now its completely normal for us to not have one. I've thought of taking out the dish washer and putting a beverage fridge in its place because for us that would more practical. #Teamnodishwasher
Clean out hot water pot with vinegar & water weekly to get rid of water spots or white built up.
I had a dishwasher for a short time, but I feel my dishes are cleaner by handwashing. I prefer handwashing even during Holidays .

Ilea has tall wardrobes with doors that could work as a partition along the rails in your new bedroom and function as clothing storage for your littles and yourself. They could easily be reused for pantry purposes in your new home. Thank You for your ideas.

I grew up in a family of 13, and part of those years were in another country. One faucet of running cold water , if the water tank was filled, or a pump in our cistern. We carried a lot of water. It’s great experiences for children. 😁

You actually save more water using a dishwasher than not
We are remodeling our kitchen and I was just using my dishwasher as a drying rack. I told my husband I want pull out drawers where the dishwasher is so I can put my turkey roaster, air fryer and crock pot.

I would put the bookshelves up against the loft railing. Put a curtain on the back of them so when seen from below it wouldn't be too ugly but it would give more of a room feel and provide much needed storage in your small home.
I never use my dishwasher and this will sound weird but washing the dishes is sort of therapeutic for me, I ‘think’ while I’m washing and it’s kind of peaceful ✌🏻

Except for the dry hands!!😂 lol! Sometimes I forget to wear my gloves. And I use dish soap and vinegar to clean my sinks and my showers. Much less chemicals in these items. Vinegar and dish soap or a natural degreaser and they really help with a little dish soap refilling wand and sponge to get the showers clean
We live in a small house with 7 kids. We don’t have a dishwasher so we had to implement the same system. All the kids who are able to wash their own dishes after every meal. The little ones put their dishes in the sink and they get washed when the next older person washes. It’s worked well for 8 years now.
You need a better dishwasher. I have a Maytag that is a year old. It has a cycle that only takes an hour. I use it a lot. I run the meal dishes first while soaking pots and pans. Then before I go to bed, I load pots and pans and run them on a longer cycle. Dishes never get behind and are always clean.
Dishwasher runs of a night here and unstacked first thing of a morning. Hotter wash dissolves grease better and kills more germs in my opinion.
I could not sleep with my bed out in the open like that. I'm amazed at you being able to make it work!

I have to be honest, I love our dishwasher. There is only 4 of us, but we all fill it up and that’s it. Once it broke and we didn’t fix it foe a while and we gotten used to handwashing, but I was sooo thankful when it was fixed. I seem to be the only one here though. 😂

I've switched to hand-washing my dishes for about a year now. I realized that I LOATHED unloading a full machine, but didn't mind putting away what I had washed by hand. I can't explain why, I just hated doing it! I also realized that I was re-washing dishes that had a lot of crevices, plus I already hand-washed pots & pans, knives, and extremely greasy/oily items. My kitchen stays SO CLEAN now! I would get rid of my dishwasher in a heartbeat and replace it with another cabinet for added storage!
Maybe look into a commercial dishwasher. We were lucky to get a secondhand one for our kitchen and it has a 4min wash cycle. Great for fellowship dinner nights and quick cleanup for you.
Hi Sarah, recently my husband and I went through a lot of things we have not been using. Some of the things we put in our storage shed and a lot of the other things we donated to Good Will. It amazing how much stuff you collect when you have been married for a lot of years! We will be celebrating 30 years in September! Wow! Where does the time go?!

We have never ever had a dishwasher for our family of 6. Now my siblings are all married with children and the dishes are much more, but we just take turns and wash them faster than a dishwasher ever can.
family of 15 and no microwave and no dishwasher for years now. We use the toaster oven for everything. Pie pans are good to reheat things in there. We prefer to hand wash but a dishwasher does use much less water.

Two drawer dishwashers are nice in the kitchen. Have a big dishwasher in the pantry.
A double oven is great plus have a microwave convection combination oven as well.

In your new house have a beverage center.
Instead of having the triangle kitchen I had stations - a baking, beverage, salad prep, and dish washing station. I installed a deep sink next to the stove top instead of the typical pot faucet.

One thing I have always done is use my dishwasher as the drying rack, it gives me more counter space. I'm one of those people that don't mind washing dishes, so I've never used a dishwasher. Funny joke: growing up me and all my sibling (it was eight of us) we had to take turns washing dishes, I remember asking "mom when we getting a dishwasher" "you are my dishwashers" 🤣🤣🤣
I have not had a dishwasher in many years. But I didn’t love washing them! One thing that really helped was decreasing my “inventory” as the Minimal Mom suggests. Wow-what a difference it made! Love the changes you have made!

My father-in-law bought us an air fryer/toaster oven because we don’t use microwaves and he was going to be babysitting our children for a couple days didn’t want to be without something to reheat his food. We love it!❤
When we built we put 2 sinks in our kitchen, one where it's supposed to be and one in the island. We also had one out in the utility room with the washer/dryer. I use ALL three ALL the time. Do it at first, you can't add them later
Yes we are getting all three. Kitchen, pantry, and laundry room nearby. All big!

The first time I remember washing dishes was in 1957 .I Was 7 at the time and there were 5 of us at the time Mom,dad two siblings. Years later I got married .Had an instant family of 8 children. The girls and I did the dishes by hand.Then I went on to have a family of my own .I birthed 14 in all.We did not have a dishwasher. The girls and I did the dishes. Many years later there was a dishwasher in the kitchen where I had moved to. The water was so hard that the dishwasher did not work. Anyhow I would prefer to wash my dishes by hand. Hi hun love to watch your videos,just a little tip for the kettle you probably already know but to keep it clean and limescale free put a half cup of lemon juice I use the bottled one fill half way and boil leave for 20 minutes longer if very bad rinse out and that's it nice clean kettle x
I have recently moved from a five-bedroom 3 bath house to a 1 bedroom 1 bath apartment. I understand getting rid of things. I have not gotten a microwave yet. It was convenient but I find I am eating lots healthier. Needs and wants have been a big thing for me now. Great video. 😊
I love washing dishes,it relaxes me. I have never had a dishwasher as an adult and when I was younger we had one but it started leaking after a few months so my parents took it out. I live with my son and his two sons,one is fifteen years old and the other one is two years old and our apartment has two bedrooms so I use what would be the living room for my bedroom and I love it. Those were some great ideas for your home.❤

We live in a small apartment. We use our dishwasher as storage for our pots and pans.
❤ find myself now and my dishwasher was not worth fixing so I don't use one I have off and on over the years sometimes I would use the dishwasher now I use it for storage for my pots and pans❤ I don't miss it either😊 I reheat a lot of things in my iron skillet on my stove, if there's a hamburger leftover I dissect it and warm it up that way it's so much better❤ I enjoyed your video😊
I think the bedroom change is good. 👍 both rooms look great.
You could probably hire someone to easily put up a partition, just to give you privacy. Although I probably would have used wardrobes or bookcases as an alternative and then made a curtain as a doorway. That way it would feel more private. 😊
Suggestion...take the door off the dishwasher. You can still use it as a drying rack but door won't be in your way. If you want it prettier or just hidden, get a curtain with a tension rod.

We just built a house and had two dishwashers installed. It is the best thing ever ever ever.
You could hang a large roll up shade(like used outside) above railings in your space now for a little more privacy
I’ve been mostly without a dishwasher for the last 11 years. I complain about hand washing dishes here and there :p but I am also 100% convinced that a dishwasher doesn’t get them as clean, and takes more time. We also don’t have a microwave and use the toaster oven or stove instead.
Hey Sarah - I didn't replace my dishwasher when it broke and have been washing dishes by hand. What I do use the broken dishwasher for however, is as a drying rack instead of one on the counter. - it keeps my kitchen feeling clean all the time.
That is what I am experiencing.
My parent-in-law used their broken dishwasher to keep the gazillion napkins they had. Everyone knew where to get napkins, even the little grandkids. They thought it was normal. 😂

I love the bedroom switch and we also hand wash most of the dishes, it’s just me and the hubby now so it’s easier to just wash as we use 😊
We switched to a large toaster oven about 4 yrs ago and so glad we did. Definitely takes alittle time to learn and adjust but once you do things run much smoother. Our kids use it fine with no trouble. We use ours for so many things, even pizza. Lol
It is wonderful! The biggest adjustment was needing hot pads to pull everything out when it's done.
@@OurTribeofManythey make cozys that you can fit your bowls in. I'm sure you could even find a pattern and make them yourself. Kinda like a mini quilt for your hot bowls
I am a family of two ... my husband and myself. Our two children are grown. I find it much easier for us to not use the dish washer. We hand wash our dishes because it is easier. We both wash what we are using throughout the day. One of us wash the dishes after meals.
